01x14 - Thomas and Bertie

Post by bunniefuu »

Thomas was at a junction
when a bus arrived.

"Who are you?"
"Bertie. And you?"

"Thomas. l run this line."

"Thomas - you got stuck in the snow!

"l took your passengers. l'm helping you
with your passengers today."

"Help me? l can go faster than you."

"You can't!" said Bertie. "l'll race you!"

Their drivers agreed to the race.
The stationmaster said, "Ready? Go!"

Thomas couldn't go fast at first
and Bertie drew in front.

"Faster!" called Annie and Clarabel.

"Wait and see," hissed Thomas.
"He's ahead," they wailed.

But Thomas had remembered
the level crossing.

Bertie fumed as they sailed through.

"Goodbye, Bertie!" called Thomas.

(Bus hoots)

Then the road left the railway
so they couldn't see Bertie.

They had to stop at the station
to let off passengers.

"Peep! Quickly!" called Thomas.

Off they went.
"Come along!" sang Thomas.

"We're coming!"
sang Annie and Clarabel.

Thomas saw Bertie
tooting triumphantly ahead.

"Oh dearie me," groaned Thomas.

"Steady, Thomas," said his driver.
"We'll beat Bertie yet."

"We'll do it," panted Thomas.
"Oh, bother - there's a station."

Then he heard Bertie.
"Goodbye, Thomas.

"Sorry l can't stop -
we buses have to work."

"Oh dear," thought Thomas.
"We've lost."

But he felt better after a drink.

The signal dropped.
"Hurrah, we're off!" huffed Thomas.

At the bridge, they heard an impatient
honk from Bertie at the traffic lights.

He started with a roar
and chased Thomas.

Now Thomas reached full speed.
He was too fast for Bertie.

Whistling triumphantly, he plunged
into the tunnel, leaving Bertie behind.

"l've done it!" panted Thomas.

"Hooray!" chanted Annie and Clarabel
as they whooshed into the station.

(Cheering, bus hooting)

Everyone celebrated Thomas's victory
but welcomed Bertie too.

"Well done, Thomas. That was fun.
To beat you, l should grow wings!"

They often talk about their race.

But Bertie can't bounce
passengers around.

Thomas isn't allowed to race at speed.

So although they'd like another race,
l don't think they will. Do you?
