02x11 - Percy Takes the Plunge

One day, Henry wanted to rest
but Percy was telling some engines

about the time he helped Thomas.

“It was raining hard and I couldn't see
where I was going but I struggled on.”

“Oh, you are brave!"

“Well, water's nothing
to a determined engine.”

“Tell us more, Percy.”
“What are you doing?" said Henry.

“This shed is for the Fat Controller's
engines. Go away! Silly things."

“They're not silly," said Percy.

“They are, and so are you. ‘Water's
nothing to a determined engine.’ Ha!"

"I like water,” said Percy,
and he went off singing.

/ Once an engine attached to a train
was afraid of a few drops of rain f

“No one lets me forget
when I stayed in the tunnel

“in case the rain spoilt my paint,”
huffed Henry.

(Whistling)

Thomas was looking at a board
on the quay. "We mustn't go past it."

“Why?”
“Danger means falling down."

“I passed ‘danger’ once
and fell down a mine."

“I can't see a mine," said Percy.

The foundations had sunk
and the rails led into the sea.

“Stupid board!" said Percy,
and he made a plan.

He asked the trucks
to give him a bump at the quay.

The trucks had never been asked
to bump an engine.

“Driver doesn't know my plan,” chuckled
Percy. "On, on, on!" laughed the trucks.

“T'll pretend to stop but the trucks
will push me past the board.

“Then I'll make them stop. I can do that."

Every wise engine knows you
cannot trust trucks. "Go on!" they yelled,

and bonked Percy's driver and fireman
off the footplate.

Percy slid past the board.
“That's enough!"

Percy was sunk.

“You are a very disobedient engine.”

“Please, get me out, sir. I'm sorry.”
“We cannot do that till high tide, Percy.

“I hope you learn to obey orders."
"Yes, sir.”

It was dark when the floating cranes
arrived. Percy was too cold to move.

Next day, he was sent to the works
on Henry's goods train.

“Did you like the water?"
chuckled Henry.

"No."
“You need more determination.

“Water's nothing to a determined engine
- perhaps you'll like it better next time.”

Percy is determined
that there won't be a next time.
