02x13 - Race To The Finish

Post by bunniefuu »

I always believed this day would come,

but I didn't really know if this day would come.

-You know? -Mm!

This year's felt like a total rollercoaster.

Ladies, it might have seemed like a wild ride,

but your fearless manager always had things under control.

I wasn't gonna let anything stop you from finishing your demo.

Right.

Hey, Mom, hey, Dad.

Hi, honey. We're getting close.

Just entering Brooklyn now and should be at the Roberts in 10.

Or 30 minutes.

Do all these streets look exactly the same to you?

Oh, we can't wait to see you and spend time with Simone and Kel

before getting back on the road tomorrow.

Are you girls ready for your California adventure?

Yeah! You both ready to hang with us?

Full time?

All summer?

I am so ready and so excited.

But first, these two superstars

need to make a very important delivery.

We finally finished recording the last song for our demo.

And now, we are heading to Otto Phoenix's office to drop it off.

We're so proud of you girls.

We'll see you at the Roberts' when you're finished!

-Hopefully. -Good luck!

Thanks, Roberts fam, but we don't need luck.

After everything the Barbies and I have been through this year,

OK, mostly them, but I was a very involved sidekick.

The hard part's over.

Delivering the demo will be easy as...

Pandora.

I-- I thought she left to go work at Dream It, Be It Records.

Where?

Uh, never mind. It was, um...

uh, just--just a dream.

Is it weird that after all of your horrifying stories,

I'm kind of excited to meet Pandora?

Yes.

Oh, wow. You weren't kidding.

Hi, hello, Pandora, right?

We're here to see Otto. Or, uh, Mr. Phoenix.

He gave my clients his personal card

and said to bring him their stuff,

so here they are and here is their stuff.

If that's true, then why are you talking to me?

Why aren't you simply calling the number on the card?

Oh, yeah. Such a good point.

Hello, Otto Phoenix's office.

Hi. I'm trying to reach Otto Phoenix.

Oh, I'm sure you are, but he isn't here.

He's out of the office until tomorrow.

Anything else?

Um, could you give this to Otto?

No, he doesn't accept unsolicited submissions.

But he asked for it. It's a solicited submission.

So you claim.

I could set a meeting for you and Mr. Phoenix.

I believe I have an opening in...

No!

We've been down that road, remember?

Of course not. Um... thank you?

Hello, Otto Phoenix's office.

What do you mean?

No, that is not what we discussed!

Mr. Phoenix will be visiting each venue today

for 30 minutes max.

If he stays in one spot any longer than that,

his allergies flare up.

Are we clear? I'm hanging up now.

You're right about Pandora. Total yikes.

But her outfit was incredible!

There you are.

Congratulations, girls!

You didn't... do it?

Nope.

We didn't even get to see Otto, let alone give him our demo.

What? What happened?

Pandora happened.

She's still an indestructible concrete wall.

And her bad attitude has somehow gotten worse.

We have no idea what to do now.

I mean, how can we possibly get Otto our demo

before we leave tomorrow morning?

After everything we've been through,

I can't believe this is how our musical dreams end.

OK, that's enough. Pity party's over.

We won't hear any more of this giving up nonsense.

That's not the Roberts way.

Couldn't agree more.

You two have come way too far to quit now.

And you said it yourself.

You don't leave for California until tomorrow.

That means we have the rest of today to deliver that demo.

Yeah! And you're not in this alone.

Sometimes it takes two. Or three.

But sometimes it takes a few more.

We're all here to help you.

Yeah! What she said.

Now that was a Rafa level pep talk, if I do say so myself.

Thanks, everyone. You're right.

We can still do this. But where do we even start?

How are we going to track down Otto?

What if...

We get one of those drones with a camera

and fly it all around Manhattan looking for Otto?

Yes! And we attach the flash drive,

so when we finally spot him,

we can drop it right in his hands.

Ah!

He won't be able to escape!

It's the only way.

No! No!

Ladies?

Love the enthusiasm,

but might I suggest we think of something

a little less traumatizing

for the man holding your future career in his hands?

Right. Good call. Any suggestions?

See? Not so easy.

Starting to reconsider the drone idea, aren't ya?

If we just had some idea of where Otto might be.

Wait! When we were leaving, Pandora said something

about Otto visiting a bunch of music venues today.

We could check them out until we find him.

But that could take days.

There are like a million venues in this city.

Trust me, Izzy and I visited all of them

trying to book you two gigs.

Wish there was a way to narrow them down.

Oh, I have so got this.

In chapter 7, 12 and 82 of Otto's autobiography,

he talks a lot about the best venues in town.

But, these four are his favorites.

Great. We should split into four groups

and hit em at the same time!

Also, chapter 82? How long is that book?

He has a way with words.

West Coast Roberts, you take this venue.

East Coast Roberts, this one.

Brooklyn and I will head to this one

and Rafa, this one's yours.

On it. And I'll grab Izzy on my way.

She will not want to miss this.

Operation Demo Delivery... is a go.

Hi, is Otto Phoenix here?

He was here this morning but he left hours ago.

Hi, is Otto Phoenix here?

He said, is Otto Phoenix here?!

I'm so sorry, he's not.

He stopped by earlier but left.

Thank you.

What do you want?!

We're looking for Otto Phoenix.

We heard he might be coming by today?

No!!!

I don't think he's here.

Oh, um, hi. We're just looking for Otto Phoenix?

-Is he here? -Yep.

That's great!

We really need to talk to him, so we'll just, uh...

No one gets in without an appointment.

We're not leaving.

Nope. Otto has to come out at some point.

How long is this guys gonna be in there?

Have you seen Otto Phoenix?

Yeah, we just had our monthly meeting

on acoustic accoutrement.

But Otto always takes the back exit.

There he goes now.

-Oh, come on! -You have got to be kidding me!

It's OK. Where else could Otto be going?

Any other favorite venues? Or favorite anywheres?

He did say he likes strawberry smoothies when we met him.

But that was forever ago.

He could have moved onto coconut water by now.

Oh, I read somewhere that he's in the market

for a new parakeet.

OK, OK, that's something.

There's that bird store on the Upper West Side.

Got it.

The name of the bird store? I was really just spitballing.

It's kind of a long sh*t.

According to Otto's most recent interview,

he's obsessed with a new spot in Midtown.

Loves the seaweed wraps and gets them daily.

Though he doesn't give the name of the place.

But there are only eight that specialize in brown kelp.

Only?

Not a problem. We'll split up again.

Let's get a move on, g*ng!

Wait.

What if this winds up being the same endless chase

we just went through with the music venues?

Maybe it's time for a new strategy.

I love a new strategy.

Operation Demo Delivery 2.0. Whatcha thinking?

Instead of chasing Otto,

we should find a way to get him to come to us.

But, Midtown isn't exactly a small area to cover.

And even though we already have a lot of help,

we're gonna need more if this is gonna work.

I know exactly who we can call.

Just tell me it's not another drone company.

Better. We've had a lot of odd jobs this year.

And met a lot of new people.

You ladies are geniuses!

My fingers are at your dialing service.

Epiphany, are you with Buddy and Stefan?

Hey, Emma, Paul? It's Malibu.

Lyla, grab Chuck, we need you!

Yeah. It's called Operation Demo Delivery 2.0.

No, we don't have time to go over what went wrong with 1.0.

We need look outs all across Midtown.

Once you spot Otto Phoenix's limo,

report back his location.

Then we'll need to create diversions

and reroute his limo.

All the way to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Where we'll be waiting to not only deliver our demo,

but remind Otto why he wanted to hear it in the first place.

Mom, Dad, see if you can get Jackson and Jayla to help.

And we'll keep making calls.

But it's time to get this plan moving,

so let's go, go, go!

Anyone have eyes on Otto yet?

Nothing on 3rd.

The Phoenix is flying down Broadway.

There! I see him!

Otto's turning onto 32nd Street.

Woah!

I've got Otto on 5th Avenue, heading south.

Excuse me!

Team, we have a problem.

Otto was nearing the park,

but his limo just turned the wrong way.

This way, this way.

And... stop.

Welcome to our show, Mr. Phoenix.

We're the Barbies.

Why isn't he coming out?

Did we reroute the wrong limo

with a giant Phoenix on the side?

Where are we? This isn't the spa.

I had a seaweed wrap scheduled.

Wait, what's going on here?

Welcome to our show, Mr. Phoenix.

We're the Barbies.

See? I've always had things totally under control.

Hi.

Um, not sure if you remember us.

We met at a pretzel cart a while back?

There was a mustard incident.

But there's no need to remind you of that.

You said you'd heard us singing with Emmie

and would love to hear more of our stuff.

So, we spent the whole school year making a demo

and we'd love for you to give it a listen.

So, that's what all this is about?

Of course I remember you and the performance you just gave,

well, it was even better than your Time Square performance.

And although I am disappointed

I am going to have to reschedule my seaweed wrap,

they charge your credit card

if you don't cancel within 24 hours.

Well, it was worth it. I love what I heard.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you!

But you know, my assistant, Pandora, would have been happy

to simply make an appointment for you.

However, your dedication and elaborate determination

to make this happen is very impressive.

Can't wait to give this a listen.

I'll be in touch.

Thank you all so much for helping make

Operation Demo Delivery 2.0 a success.

We couldn't have done it without you.

And kind of can't believe you were all so willing to help us.

Well, ladies, what goes around does come around.

You've been there for them and us all year.

We're all just returning the favor.

-Thanks for everything! -Bye, Simone and Kel.

-See you soon! -Bye, Roberts!

We hope you have a wonderful summer, baby girl.

But we're counting down the days

until you come home in the fall.

Have you made a decision about what's next?

Uh... It's so hard to choose.

Malibu and I aren't just a great team,

we're best friends.

It's not easy having so many big dreams, is it?

All we can say is listen to your heart.

But if it helps,

your father and I have always believed it's filled with music.

Thanks, Mom and Dad. You're the best.

Love you!

Love you too!

Call every day.

I will!

Can't believe we really did it.

I wonder when we'll hear from Otto.

And what he'll say.

Who knows?

But at least we have all summer together to find out.

- -Ah, ugh!

Rafa?

I couldn't help it. I'm not ready to say goodbye to you ladies for the whole summer.

It's like mi abuela always says,

a summer apart is good for the heart.

But a season away can turn the heart gray.

And make it so lonely it shrivels into dust.

Do you want to turn my heart into dust?

-Get over here. -Ah!

Dad, we're gonna need to take a detour through Queens.
