♪ ♪

children:

♪ They're two, they're four ♪

♪ They're six, they're eight ♪

♪ Shunting trucks

and hauling freight ♪

♪ Red and green

and brown and blue ♪

♪ They're the really

useful crew ♪

♪ All with different roles

to play ♪

♪ Round Tidmouth Sheds

or far away ♪

♪ Down the hills

and round the bends ♪

♪ Thomas and his friends ♪

♪ ♪

[whistle toots]

[steam hisses]

[ragtime piano music]

male narrator: Over the hill.

[train engine chugging]

male narrator:

Many years ago,

Glynn, a coffee pot engine,

used to look after

Thomas' branch line.

♪ ♪

But even before Thomas

came along,

the old engine had been moved

from siding to siding

and forgotten about.

Until one day,

just before Christmas...

- ♪ 'Tis the season

to be jolly ♪

♪ Fa-la-la-la-la,

la-la-la-la ♪

- Hey, be careful.

- Oh!

- You nearly hit me.

- Ahh!

narrator:

Glynn was rediscovered,

and the Earl of Sodor arranged

for Glynn to be restored

and brought him

to work with Stephen

up at Ulfstead Castle.

- Come on, Stephen.

[whistle toots]

It's a lovely morning.

[Stephen yawns]

- Is it?

Ugh, already?

[whistle toots, steam hisses]

[bright music]

- Ho-ho,

you're up early, Glynn.

Why don't I give you

a proper guided tour

while the castle's closed

to the public?

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

- Hey, wait for me!

♪ ♪

- It certainly is a pleasure

to have you here

at the castle, Glynn.

You really are

a marvelous engine.

- Thank you, sir.

[whistle toots]

- Bonjour, Stephen.

[giggles]

Isn't it

a beautiful morning?

- So everyone keeps saying,

Millie.

♪ ♪

- Hmph.

- Ah, but of course

that was long before

I started expanding my estate.

- And what an estate it is,

eh, sir?

I always tell my visitors--

- Of course I'm not finished

expanding yet,

and you, Glynn,

are a major part

of my plans for the future.

narrator:

Before Glynn had arrived,

Stephen had felt

like the king of the castle,

but now he felt

like he had lost his crown.

[upbeat music]

- Up next, the dino park.

- Have you ever seen

a dinosaur, Glynn?

- I can't say I have.

[chuckles]

I'm not as old as you,

Stephen.

Uh, I mean, uh,

uh, you have got

more experience than me.

[chuckles]

- I was one

of the first engines

ever built,

and most of those built after me

use my design

While you teapots

quickly went out of use.

- I think you'll find Glynn

and the other coffee pots

had very long and productive

working lives, Stephen.

♪ ♪

- Ha-ho!

Look how fast I am, Glynn!

Ha-ha! Yow!

This is why they call me

The Rocket!

♪ ♪

Ah!

♪ ♪

Ooooh!

♪ ♪

Ah, ooh, the old mines.

I remember the day I found

King Godred's long lost crown

down there.

- And I remember

how you got trapped

and had to be rescued,

Stephen.

- Oh, yes.

narrator: Stephen

was starting to wonder

whether the earl liked Glynn

better than him.

[steam hissing]

- Thank you, Glynn.

Enjoy the rest

of the holiday.

I've got something

special planned

when we reopen

in the new year.

- I wonder what he means,

Millie.

- I think the earl is finally

opening a railway museum.

- Great idea.

I'll do the tours.

You can do the teas

and coffees, Glynn.

- Perhaps it will be Glynn

doing the tours, Stephen,

while you become an exhibit

in the museum.

You are the world-famous Rocket

after all.

[laughs]

- I suppose

even an old teapot like you

knows how I got that name,

Glynn.

I beat four other engines

at the Rainhill Trials.

- I know.

It's no wonder you're

such a celebrity, Stephen.

The Rainhill Trials

are legendary.

- What?

I--ah--ooh!

- Are you okay?

- Ah, of course I'm okay.

I'm The Rocket.

But this castle isn't big enough

for the both of us, Glynn.

It's time to find out

just how fast you really are.

- Oh, ho-ho, nowhere near

as fast as you, I'm sure.

- Well, let's find out.

First one to Knapford wins

and works at the castle.

The loser becomes an exhibit

in the earl's railway museum.

- No, I-I don't think the earl

or Sir Topham Hatt

will like that.

- Oh, are you scared?

- Uh...mm.

[exciting music]

♪ ♪

- Right, then, let's see

if you can keep up with me!

♪ ♪

Ready?

Steady!

[inhales sharply,

whistle blowing]

[jazzy music]

♪ ♪

- Hmm, I think

I need to find the earl.

♪ ♪

narrator: Because Glynn

and Stephen

were both slow engines

on the single track,

Stephen couldn't speed ahead

and Glynn couldn't overtake him.

- Oh, it was much quieter

on the tracks in my day.

[chuckles]

Yours too, I'm sure.

Anyway, I'm not a great fan

of rushing about.

- Ha-ha! You just wish

you were as fast as me!

- [chuckles]

That's right.

♪ ♪

narrator: Finally they made it

onto the main line

and went onto two

separate tracks.

But they were still traveling

at exactly the same slow speed!

- Of course, people take

railways for granted these days.

- Mm, they don't realize...

[train whistles blowing]

how much rail travel

has opened up the world.

[train whistles blowing]

- Express coming through!

- Oh, come on, old-timers.

Some of us have got work to do.

- Stephen,

get out of my way!

- Ah, show some respect

for your elders.

- Sorry, Gordon.

We're racing!

- Ha! You call that racing?

- I was winning races

before you were even a sketch

on a drawing board,

young Gordon.

- [chuckling]

Oh, good one, Stephen.

Would you like a glass of milk

with that, young Gordon?

[both laughing]

[cheers and applause]

narrator: Before long,

everyone had heard

about Stephen and Glynn's race

and wanted to see it

for themselves.

- Hello, hello!

Make way for The Rocket!

- [chuckles]

- This is my friend Glynn.

He's a coffee pot engine.

- Hello!

[chuckling]

[cheers and applause continue]

- Thank you.

[laughs]

Ah, thank you.

[whistles tooting]

[steam hissing]

- Well, you two have

certainly caused

more confusion and delay

than I've seen for many years.

And I don't usually approve

of racing,

especially on the main line.

- Oh, dear.

I'm sorry, sir.

This is all my fault.

- No, no, i-it's mine, Glynn.

[whistle toots]

- [chuckles]

Actually, I think

I'm partly to blame.

Millie explained everything.

But I'm glad to see you two

have finally made friends.

Did anyone actually

win the race?

- No, sir.

- We came in together.

- Oh-ho!

That's marvelous,

especially since

you'll be working together

at the castle.

- Together?

But I thought--

- I am going to open

a railway museum, Stephen,

and my star attraction

will be

both of you!

- Oh!

- Ooh, that's fantastic!

- How marvelous!

- I agree with Sir Topham about

not racing on the main line,

but if we were

to hold a race elsewhere,

perhaps we could have

a classic engine race

every year!

[all laughing,

whistles blowing]

- Ah, that's just wonderful,

isn't it?

[steam hisses]

[gentle woodwind music]

[Children singing]

[whistle blasts]
