[laughter]

[upbeat music]

- Whoo-hoo!

Hi, everyone.

If you have a pet,

you'll know that animals

need to be cared for.

Some need to be kept warm

in the winter.

But sometimes

keeping animals warm

can be a very

tricky job indeed.

[whistle toots]

All aboard for a big adventure!

[upbeat music]

[Thomas narrating]

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

It was Christmas Eve

and it was really cold.

[whistle toots]

Whoa!

Hello, Head Keeper Jack.

Is everything okay?

- Not really, Thomas.

The boiler in the animals'

winter house has broken down.

- Oh, dear!

- We need that boiler

to keep the animals warm,

especially the ones

who come from hot places

like India and Africa.

- Hmm, there must be

some other way

of keeping the animals warm.

[whimsical music]

[elephant trumpets]

[elephant grumbles,

monkey chatters]

[slurping]

- Ahh!

- There's supposed to be

another boiler on the way.

Emily went to collect it

from Brendham Docks hours ago,

but I'm still waiting.

- I'm on my way

to the docks!

I can find out

what's happened!

- Thanks, Thomas.

[monkey whimpers]

- But the ship

bringing the new boiler

should have

been here by now.

- It's the weather, chuck.

It's causing havoc everywhere.

Nothing we can do

but sit and wait.

I don't reckon that

boiler's going to get here

till after Christmas.

- After Christmas?

But those animals

need to be kept warm.

This is an emergency!

- Hey!

Thomas!

Wait up!

[whistle toots]

[dramatic music]

♪ ♪

- Thomas?

What about the boiler?

- Sorry, Head Keeper Jack!

Can't stop!

♪ ♪

- Just a little higher, sir.

- Oh, oh.

- Almost there.

- I think I've got it.

[straining]

Oh-ohhh!

Thomas, what are

you playing at?

- Oops. Sorry, sir.

But it's an emergency!

The old boiler's broken

at the Animal Park,

and a new

one hasn't arrived.

The animals urgently

need a warm place to stay.

- [gasps]

- Dear, oh, dear!

But what's the warmest

place on Sodor?

- The Steamworks

is pretty hot, sir.

- Quiet, Henry.

I'm trying to think.

I know!

How about the Steamworks?

The Steamworks is pretty hot!

[chuckles]

Hurry, Thomas!

Grab any empty cars

you can find

and take all the animals

to The Steamworks.

- Thank you, sir.

[toots whistle]

- I wish the animals

could have stayed with us

at Tidmouth Sheds.

That would have been

the best Christmas present

in the whole wide world.

♪ ♪

[elephant trumpets]

♪ ♪

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

- Oh, no!

We'll never get through that!

Hmm.

Time for plan B.

[exciting music]

[straining]

The bad weather made it

difficult to travel.

Oh, Rebecca!

Be careful!

The tunnel is blocked!

- Okay, Thomas!

But look out

for deep snow drifts ahead!

- Okay.

Thanks, Rebecca!

Ahhh!

I can't stop!

[yelling]

No!

Whoa!

♪ ♪

Whoa-oh-ohhh!

[yelling]

[animals grumbling]

[straining]

I'm stuck.

Oh, we'll never get

through this snow drift.

The tracks are too icy.

My wheels won't grip.

- The animals are

getting really cold, Thomas.

What are we going to do?

- [sighs]

- [elephant trumpets]

- I have an idea!

When I was in India,

I came off the rails,

and an elephant helped me

back onto the tracks.

That's it!

Keep pushing!

♪ ♪

- [chittering]

- Ha-ha!

It's working!

♪ ♪

- [sighs]

I do hope

the animals are okay.

[whistle toots]

[gasps] Thomas!

- What on earth does

he have in those cars?

[elephant trumpets,

animals chittering]

- It's the animals

from the Animal Park!

They're coming to stay!

- Animals?

Coming to stay?

- This is an emergency,

Gordon!

These animals are freezing

and they need looking after.

Our boilers will

keep them warm.

- But it'll be like

living in a zoo!

- Oh, the indignity!

- It's my Christmas wish

come true!

♪ ♪

- Stop pecking my paintwork,

you oversized chicken!

- It's an ostrich, James!

[birds cawing]

- Ooh-ooh.

[shivers]

Happy Christmas, everyone!

It's stopped snowing and all

the lines have been cleared.

♪ ♪

Huh?

W-What?

- Merry Christmas, sir.

I couldn't make it

to The Steamworks,

so I had to bring

the animals back here.

- But some of us are not

very happy about it, sir.

They're smelly and noisy.

And that ostrich

won't leave me alone.

- Don't worry, James.

The new boiler

arrived this morning.

- Uh, James, what's that

under your smoke box?

- The ostrich!

She's laid an egg!

And I'm afraid it will have

to stay there until it hatches.

- What?

Now I'm babysitting birds!

No!

- Calm down, James.

It's Christmas, remember?

The season of good will

to everyone.

- [caws]

- Even ostriches!

- Ow, my hat!

[laughter]

[bell dings]

[whistle toots]

- Have you ever helped

to look after an animal?

Maybe you have a pet at home

or at school in your classroom.

Luke once found a little deer

who was scared by

all the noise at the quarry,

and he brought it to a place

that was safe and quiet.

One winter,

I brought some animals

to Tidmouth Sheds

to keep warm.

All the engines helped.

Even James

warmed to the idea.

- Here chicky chicky chick.

Come to Uncle James!

- [chirping]

- Aww, how cute.

- Looking after animals

is important and can be fun.

Think about

the animals around you

and what they need

to be safe and happy.

Maybe you can

find a way to help!

- Come on, Thomas!

- It's time to go!

- See you next time!

[whistle toots]

[upbeat musical sting]
