I love seeing animals.

But once, in

an Australian rainforest,

my travels amongst the wildlife

became rather, well...

[laughing] Wild.

[whistle toots]

All aboard for a big adventure!

[woodwind and traditional

[Thomas narrating]

Whoo-hoo-hoo!

[birds squawking]

I was taking food supplies

to a town

far up in the mountains.

Whoo-whoo!

[slo-mo whooshing]

[whistle peeps]

- Whoa, steady on, mate.

[wheels squeal]

You almost squished

a Kuranda tree frog.

That's an endangered species.

- Does that mean

they're dangerous?

- No.

It means he and his family

are in danger,

like when trees are cut down

from his rainforest home.

- [gasps] That's terrible!

- You're right, it is.

Are you new around here?

- Yes.

My name's Thomas.

- [croaks]

- I'm a t*nk engine from Sodor.

- And I'm Tamika.

Welcome to

the Kuranda Rainforest.

Our froggy friend here

is one of hundreds of animals

who live here

amongst the trees.

- Wow!

It's beautiful.

- Sure is.

Let's keep it that way, eh?

[whistle peeps]

[gentle woodwind music]

[whistle toots]

- [giggles]

What a funny-looking bear.

Excuse me, could you please get

down, little bear?

You're blocking the water.

[whistle toots]

- [making bird call]

- [gasps]

What sort of bird is that?

- G'day.

I'm Ranger Jill.

There's a kookaburra

in distress,

and I'm trying to find it.

[imitates bird call]

[kookaburra calls distantly]

[gasps] That's him!

Care to give me a lift?

- Thomas the t*nk Engine

at your service!

Hop on and let's find

that kooky-fellow.

- [laughs] Kookaburra.

- That's what I said. [giggles]

[whistle toots]

- [imitates bird call]

[kookaburra calls]

[gasps] There he is!

Oh, hold still,

my feathery friend!

- [cooing]

- There.

- [coos]

- Careless campers must have

left their garbage behind.

And look what else they left!

- [gasps]

Cinders and ashes!

- Exactly.

Leaving a campfire burning

could start a bushfire,

which could spread

through the whole rainforest.

[kookaburras chitter]

[whistle toots]

Thomas, we need to be quiet

so we don't scare off

the wildlife.

- [whispering] Oh, sorry,

Ranger Jill.

♪ ♪

- Stop here please,

Assistant Ranger Thomas!

It's a lost egg.

- [gasps]

- We'll take it back

to my ranger station to hatch.

- Aww.

What sort of bird

does it belong to?

- [chuckles]

It's not a bird egg.

It belongs to

a freshwater crocodile.

- [gasps] A crocodile?

I don't want a crocodile

hatching in my cab!

[shimmering music]

[uneventful music]

- [snarls]

- [screams]

Crocodile onboard!

- [yelps]

Lots of crocodiles!

[trains whimpering]

- [gasps]

It's Sir Croc-ham Hatt!

- [screaming]

- [echoing] Thomas!

- [wailing]

- [chuckling]

Calm down, Thomas.

Freshwater crocodiles

don't eat trains--

especially baby ones.

- I'm not a baby train.

- [laughing] I mean

baby crocodiles, Thomas.

- Oh, yeah, right. [laughs]

[pleasant music]

Wow!

[gasps]

[brakes squeak]

[sighs] Not another bear

in my way.

Out of the way, you!

[whistle toots]

[koala grunts]

- Thomas!

[whistle peeps]

That's no way

to treat an animal.

- But I was just shooing him

off the tracks.

- There are other ways

to get animals to move, Thomas,

without scaring them.

- This rainforest

is a koala's home,

where they deserve

to be protected and respected.

- Maybe it's not

such a good idea

that you helped me today,

Thomas.

Thanks for the lift!

- Sorry, Thomas.

Not everyone's cut out

to work with the wildlife.

- Oh...I was only

trying to help.

[gloomy woodwind music]

I was on my way

back down the line again

when I noticed something

worrying up ahead.

That campfire looks pretty big.

[fire crackling]

[gasps] Fizzling fireboxes!

[whistle toots]

[determined rock music]

♪ ♪

Ranger Jill!

There's a bushfire spreading

through the rainforest.

- Oh, thank goodness

you're here, Thomas.

We need to get to safety

down on the coast!

- Are the animals

gonna be okay?

- Most of them will be able

to get out of

the forest all right.

- But what about the koalas?

They're so slow.

- We'll pick them

up along the way.

[tense music]

♪ ♪

[music brightens]

[animals chattering]

♪ ♪

- Wait, where's the koala

with the little white beard?

I saw him this morning

at the water station.

- Oh! That's Banjo!

He's not here!

- Oh, no.

Poor Banjo.

I'll find him!

[whistle toots]

- Be careful, Thomas.

It could be dangerous!

[determined music]

- Banjo!

Banjo!

[gasps] The water station.

I'm coming, Banjo!

There he is.

Ooh, I don't wanna blow my

whistle and scare him off.

Oh, I know.

Grab that branch.

Come on, little Banjo.

This way.

You can do it.

Now let's get you to safety.

[tree cracks]

Whoa!

[whistle toots]

[soft music]

[coughing]

- Thomas!

Banjo!

I'm so glad you're both okay.

And good news:

I've just heard that

the firefighters have

the bushfire under control!

- Well done, Thomas.

Maybe you are cut out to work

with wildlife after all.

- Definitely.

[crackling]

And look!

You're just in time

to meet a new friend too.

[pop]

- Aww.

He's adorable.

- I'll name him...Thomas.

- [giggles]

Nice smile, Thomas!

[bell tolls]

[engine chugs]

[whistle toots]

Have you ever had

to help an animal?

Back on Sodor, my friends have

often helped animals in need.

Like when Philip had

to stop Gordon

because the sheep were

in danger on the line,

or when Diesel helped

a family of ducklings

get back to their pond.

In the rainforest,

I wasn't very sensitive

to the animals at first.

I kept forgetting

not to be too noisy

and to move around carefully.

But when the bushfire started,

I helped to rescue them.

I learned that animals should

be protected and respected.

After all, they share our home

here on planet Earth.

So if you're a duckling,

a sheep,

or a funny little bear--

[giggling] I mean, a koala--

don't worry.

I'll always keep a place

for you on my coaches.

- Come on, Thomas!

- It's time to go.
