Post by bunniefuu »

(male narrator) Tonight on "Spenser: For Hire"..

'Who did they belong to?'

Their father d*ed yesterday.

- I sh*t him. - Oh, God.

Who's going to take care..

You will never live to see the day

I get caught dirty again.

[g*nsh*t] Ah!

Make my own contract, with you.

And I want..

Hawk be real mad.

The father has right to know about..

Are you pregnant?

You'd be smart thinking about another line of work.

[theme music]

[music continues]

[dramatic music]

(male #) 'Hey, stupid, watch where you're going.'

[Spenser shouts]

[people shouting]

[band music]

[applause]

[dramatic music]

Hey, boy.

[g*nshots]

(Spenser) I've heard the expression, "Hell on wheels".

But somehow I'd never thought of them as roller skates.

But then, I'd never thought that shopping

for fresh vegetables, was something

I might have to die for, either.

[instrumental music]

[music continues]

[telephone ringing]

Spenser.

You're home late.

I was in the Italian section.

There are hazards in insisting on fresh produce.

- Did you get my note? - Are you kidding?

The world class sleuth that I am.

I was dusting it for prints when the phone rang.

Should I be insulted?

You don't sound too disappointed that I cancelled.

I'm a tough guy.

I'm biting my lip.

'Where are you, anyway?'

I-I drove down to the Cape.

Well, look, I can meet you there.

- It'll take me, uh-- - Uh, no.

Really.

I-I'm embarrassed to sound like

such a cliche, but, uh

I need to be alone with my thoughts.

- You alright? - 'How could I not be?'

I love you, don't I?

I'll call you when I get back.

- Bye. - Bye.

(Spenser) Don't believe what anyone says.

There's nothing quite so lonely

as cannelloni for one.

- 'Stick it, stick it.' - 'Punch him.'

Spenser.

Hawk.

What's the world coming to?

I hear some hot dog tried to ice you..

...on roller skates.

Maybe I oughta get you a pair.

I'd be mighty embarrassed for you

you bought it from somebody so unprofessional.

Oh, I don't know.

Could be the common thing.

Real stylish.

Tommy Gordon or showboat.

You don't know from style.

You know?

'I did.'

You wouldn't happen to know who hired him?

The line forms here, babe.

'You got a lead?'

Not yet.

Well..

...before you get engrossed detective.

I got something to show you.

This it?

Okay, I give up. What am I supposed to be looking for?

You're the detective.

A detective needs clues.

Two on the swing.

(Spenser) 'What about them?'

I guess it is hard to see the resemblance.

They're not wearing any b*llet holes at all.

What?

Oh, my God.

'See there.'

I'd tell folks, you're not just another punched out prelim boy.

They got a mother?

'Mm-mm.'

What about an uncle or-or an aunt?

Just Tommy.

He leaves them with a sugar friend

that lives around here.

Kids don't know their daddy's dead.

'She doesn't either.'

Just wants them throw'd out.

What do you want me to do about it?

I mean, I-I'm very sorry

that their father is dead, but, I..

Why did you bring me here?

I just thought you'd wanna know.

[indistinct argument]

Hey, hold it.

- Hey. - 'Come on.'

Hey, hold it, hold it, right there.

(Spenser) 'Alright, that's enough.'

Come on, break it up.

That's it. Come on, you two.

Hey, come out of.. Come out of there,

Alright, son, that's it.

Come here. That's enough.

I ain't your son. Let me go.

Hey, now that's enough.

Alright, where do you live?

Look, if I'm gonna help you, I need to know--

We don't need your help.

We're not telling you anything.

This here is a business associate of your daddy.

Then he must be a bum.

Hey, now listen to me.

I haven't beaten up any kids in about two or three weeks now

so don't push your luck.

(Spenser) 'Alright?'

Come on, let's go.

Come on.

(female #) 'Does Spenser know?'

(Susan) Until just now even I didn't for sure.

What do you think his reaction is gonna be?

Wish I knew.

It's moments like this, that I absolutely hate myself

for being so virtuous and giving up cigarettes.

[Susan chuckles]

Seems to me like you've got some real thinking to do.

Will you please remember that I'm your friend

as well as your doctor?

- Thank you. - Mm-hmm.

And I'm available for any professional

discussion you might want.

But, Susan..

...it's my personal belief that the father

has a right to know about the pregnancy.

And be a part of your decision.

You mean abortion.

That's the word we're both so carefully avoiding, isn't it?

Ain't a choice to be made lightly.

And neither is having a family, is it?

Well, thank God, somebody came to get those brats.

I was going nuts.

What about family?

I can't talk. I'm late for work.

Ooh. I love a modest woman.

Look, we were discussing family.

Did Tommy ever mention anybody?

Don't talk to me about Tommy.

Rat stood me up.

Promises me this big night out of town.

Sticks me with these kids

and then never shows up.

(Spenser) 'What about a job? Maybe his boss knows him?'

Right.

Work? Tommy?

I guess you don't know him very well.

Hey, how do you know him, anyway?

I know him well enough to take his kids.

(female #) 'Good. Well, their stuff's in that sack.'

Oh, and, uh, I'm out bucks for the burgers and drinks.

Be sure and save your receipt for the IRS.

A woman of your compassion

must use charitable deductions. Come on, kids.

'If you see your friend Tommy'

you give him a message from me.

You tell him if comes around here, I'll k*ll him.

You understand me? He's dead.

[instrumental music]

"Oh beauteous maid returned o'er the sea."

How's tricks?

- Can I go out? - Yeah.

But stay off the fire pole until I show you how.

- Come on, Rick. Let's go. - Alright.

Don't tell me.

Detective work slowed down.

So you decide to open a day care center.

At least appreciate my self control

at not throwing my arms around you and..

...whispering unspeakable things in your shell shaped ear.

How are you?

Better.

Not good. But better.

Want to talk about it?

Yeah, I want to. I need to.

But first, what about the kids?

[shouting]

Did you see it? Did you see it?

Watch again.

Clearly she's terrified of you.

Who do they belong to?

Their father d*ed yesterday.

I sh*t him.

Oh, God.

He was a hit-man, who was trying to k*ll me.

- You alright? - Yeah.

They don't seem to have any relatives.

I'm gonna have to find some kind of welfare agency, I..

Do you have any ideas?

Of course, there's private charity in the county.

God, how can you be so calm about all this.

Someone just tried to m*rder you.

It's my job to remain calm.

Which is not to say that I'm not furious.

'Not that he tried to k*ll me'

because that goes with the territory.

It's that he'd be so careless with their future.

I'll call the county.

But don't be surprised if they can't pick 'em up

before tomorrow at the earliest.

Is there anything else I can do?

They don't know.

And I don't know how to tell them.

Well, with as much honesty.

Emotional honesty as you can.

But, Spenser..

...don't tell them you k*lled him.

One shock is enough, one set of emotions.

(Spenser) 'I came by to..'

...get you this morning because of, uh..

[sighing]

Your father is not coming back.

- I told you he was in jail. - 'No, he's...not in jail.'

He was k*lled yesterday.

Yeah?

How did it happen?

What did he get drugged out, walked into a bus?

It was a terrible thing that never should have happened.

But if he's dead, who's gonna take care of..

Hey..

I'll find a place for you.

And you can stay here until I find

(Spenser) 'a real spot, alright?'

(Rick) 'So, what's in it for you?'

I mean everybody else is jumping to kick us out.

Why are you so eager to take us in?

I owe your dad.

No way.

My dad didn't have any friends.

Only people he can borrow money from.

Yeah. We don't need anybody.

Let me go. Let me go.

It's okay. Honey, it's okay.

- Okay. - Let me go.

[crying]

It's okay.

It's okay to cry.

[instrumental music]

What do you be wanting tonight, Hawk?

t*nk's full.

Oil's fine. Windshield spotless.

- Mm-hmm. - Only one thing I need.

The name of the man who called a hit on Spenser.

Hey, look, I'm out of that.

Don't give me that look.

Out and not knowing are two different things.

Look, even if I know..

...money is too big on this one, man.

Hell, the money is so big, nobody even talked to you.

Besides, what do you care?

A brother looking out for you..

I was looking out. 'Cause I wants to.

Now, you tell anybody who asks.

That contract still floating on Spenser

somebody pick it up.

Hawk be real mad.

Won't do no good.

No matter how mad you'd be or how bad you'd be.

Customer going shopping

for bad talent from way out of town.

And they never heard of Hawk.

[intense music]

[instrumental music]

Kids.

Hey, uh, do you think it'd ruin my Sam Spade image

if I told you how glad I was to see you this afternoon?

And that I'm grateful that you are not going back

to Smithfield tonight.

Well, Jenny and Rick are sleeping.

After what happened this afternoon

I was almost afraid to tuck them in.

They're down for the count.

Have I ever told you, how exquisitely beautiful

you are right there with the..

Why didn't you tell me when I called you last night

that somebody had tried to m*rder you?

Well, I, uh..

I knew that you had a lot on your mind

and I didn't think it was fair. It was--

Damn it, Spenser. Do you have to be so self sacrificing?

It makes me feel so self-indulgent, when I try--

When your what? Talk about your own problems?

Seems to me you were doing a pretty good job

of avoiding that even before I mentioned the kids.

Please, I don't wanna fight.

'You don't wanna fight, you don't wanna talk'

'you don't wanna make love.'

You've pretty much eliminated all our options, Sus.

What I want is to be like that little girl this afternoon.

That you put your arms around me

and tell me everything's okay.

Oh, Sus.

Don't you know?

Don't you know everything's gonna be alright?

As long as we love each other.

I'm never gonna leave you.

[instrumental music]

(Spenser) Susan had awakened

and there's an alternative to talking.

I decided on demonstrating to Jenny

how a mature woman deals with stress.

Which is to say, she took her shopping.

I decided to take some action myself.

Thought that world class

private investigator's half stress.

But it is generally considered bad for business

to let somebody get away with trying to k*ll you.

If you were hiring muscle in Boston.

One place to look was Nick Nizamoff's.

Nick's was a felon's employer.

Everything from breaking knee caps to arson.

All under the same roof.

Well, are you gonna say "small world"? Or shall I?

What do you want?

You're not bringing those kids back.

Hey, wait a minute. Y-You can't go in there.

(Nick) 'If I take you on kid. You first job is comin'.'

- 'Spenser.' - What's this Nick?

Passing out college scholarships now?

What time is it?

I thought you'd be dead by now.

The kind of talent you send out

I'll be spending my sunset years

in the back porch of the old detectives home.

I don't do m*rder contracts.

Though for you, I could be tempted.

That's good.

A man needs goals.

But just because you didn't have the guts

to pick up the contract, doesn't mean

you don't know the employer of choice.

Who is it, Nick?

Hey, kid, you wanna break in to the business?

Get this smart mouth out if my face

and of the premises in the next seconds you got a job.

Don't put this kid in a box.

You break a few of his major bones you got a career.

Look, kid, he's just kidding.

I should warn you.

I was runner-up heavyweight.

- Golden gloves, Pacific fleet. - Really?

- No kidding. What fleet? - Pacific.

[shouting]

Now, Nick.

Who do I want next?

Out of town buyers. That's all I know.

Who is their business agent?

(Nick) 'All phone contacts. Real careful.'

Nick, if I find out you're lying to me.

I'm gonna come back and work you over.

Real careful.

Think about another line of work, kid.

You, creep.

Why didn't you tell me Tommy was dead?

For the kids' burgers.

I don't want you making a contribution

on their behalf.

[engine revving]

(Spenser) 'Let's go.'

[Spenser clapping]

What's going on?

Well, as it says in Latin on a dollar bill

"Our new year now begins."

Let's go, come on.

[Rick panting] We gotta stop.

Alright, ten more steps and we'll call it a half a mile.

Six, seven

eight, nine, ten. Good. Close enough.

I think my appendix is gonna burst or something.

Take some deep breaths.

It won't cramp up. Stretch it out.

You ever play sports with your dad?

Must've gone to the Red Sox's game

or was he a Celtics fan?

You do go to the movies, watch TV?

Nothing!

My dad was a jerk.

He never had a job.

But he never had any time for us.

'He was out all night, and then asleep all day.'

You know, he was still your dad.

He was a jerk.

[car honking]

Hang in here for a second.

Well, what did you find out?

Well, you'll be smart thinking about another line of work.

Did you find out who's trying to k*ll me?

Not who exactly.

But that contract on your life's stopped floating.

'Got picked up by some heavyweight towner'

'from outta town.'

Mm-hmm.

And that'll be a whole lot tougher

to deal with than a flashing Kn*fe on roller skates.

[instrumental music]

(Spenser) After vigorous exercise with Rick

and a chilling conversation with Hawk

my body was tuned and my mind was in over-drive.

But since I still didn't know who's trying to k*ll me

a trip to Tommy Gordon's apartment

didn't seem unreasonable.

On the other hand, maybe Tommy's employer

would've had a change of heart.

The two guys in the blue sedan have been on my tail

since I left the fire house.

Could be just working up the nerve

to offer me an apology.

Sure, they could.

[door handle clanking]

But I assert there's no better way

to work up a good breakfast

than a with a little light breaking and entering.

All in the name of good detective work, of course.

The secret to searching a room is to do it methodically.

One section at a time.

I was prepared to take the bottom off the refrigerator

or even stick my hand down

to see what was hidden in the garbage disposal.

It wasn't that tough.

Going through Tommy's wallet wasn't a major job.

No plastic money, no social security card.

Not even a driver's license

The man even drove illegally.

Twenty seven dollars.

While I was debating buying double A bonds

as a trust fund for Jenny and Tommy

my keen detective's eye spotted a clue.

[rattling]

And then my keen detective's ear

heard what I'd been afraid to hear.

[dramatic music]

Ah!

[g*nsh*t]

[grunting]

[groaning]

[g*nshots]

[intense music]

[g*nsh*t]

[g*nf*re]

[intense music]

[g*nsh*t]

[tires screeching]

[engine revving]

[door creaking]

[soft music]

(Spenser) Say, hut!

I got it. I got it.

That's it, catch it, catch it, a-ah!

Play with your sister.

She's got a better arm than I do.

For a man, with hired K*llers after him

you're acting indecently relaxed.

We sleep not, nor do we slumber.

I got my nine millimeter in my holster

a degree of the Boston Common

and unless that chipmunk up there is packin' heat

'I'd say I'm in control.'

Your winsome helplessness is what drew me to you

in the first place.

Thank you.

'Speaking of which'

the day is two-thirds over

and you still haven't phoned the welfare office

'about picking up Jenny and Rick.'

How definitely she changes the subject.

But true, they're still here.

I would think a woman like yourself

would...be understanding and consider that I've been busy

'sleuthing and detecting, and looking for clues.'

Hey, Spenser, another one.

This time, real long.

Oh, the real long? Here we go.

Rhode Island. How about that?

That long enough?

Catch it, catch it.

I do consider and I do understand.

It's your code, isn't it?

Your sense of justice and obligation.

You don't have to make it sound like a social disease.

Sometimes, I think it is.

Are you ever gonna face the fact that you can't take on

the burden of the world?

Yeah, sure..

...when I grow up.

[instrumental music]

Excuse me.

I'm looking for a lawyer named, uh, Ronald Chadway.

I'm he.

Great. You see, I need a-a terrific mouth piece.

Say, I'm a professional k*ller

and I need a defense for m*rder one.

If this is a practical joke, it's in real bad taste.

Yeah, well, so is m*rder.

Uh, I should know, one of your clients

Tommy Gordon tried it on me.

- My client? - Well, he had your card.

Interesting.

But, uh, very circumstantial. Wouldn't you say?

I sh*t Tommy three times with a snub-nosed ..

It was so circumstantial

he was dead before he hit the pavement.

Look, uh, Mr..?

Spenser.

Well, Mr. Spenser

I'm a criminal lawyer.

Some of my clients are accused of heinous crimes.

Uh, it's entirely possible

that one of their disreputable colleagues acquired my card.

After all, you've got your hands on it, didn't you?

The judge will see you now, Mr. Chadway.

You believe that Chadway guy? He wouldn't take my case.

I mean, who does he think he is?

Well, he doesn't have to think he's anybody

because he is somebody.

At least, in the eyes

of the heavyweights in this town.

Yeah? Like who?

Did you ever hear of King Powers?

Oh, yeah, big rackets guy, uh..

But the put him away, didn't they?

They did, but you can bet.

If there's a trick to be pulled, Chadway will spring him.

Well, right now, he's talking to meet judge for a motion.

He'll be arguing for a new trial.

Mm.

Say..

...do you think The Pats will give The Jets

a good game on Sunday?

Oh, yeah, I take the spread. Gasser is gonna g*n 'em down.

I tell you, what you do.

You get yourself a contract with somebody who's wired.

- You know what I mean? - Yeah.

And then you give Chadway another try.

Thanks.

I hope you're right about The Pats.

I kept the whole spread.

Yeah.

(Hawk) 'King Powers put up the contract?'

(Spenser) 'That's right.'

From inside the joint.

But I was the one who put him there.

Uh, if I remember correctly

I was the one who set him up on the arms deal.

And that's why they indicted him and convicted him

and that's why he went to prison.

You only got him because I wouldn't k*ll you.

I'm the one he should be after.

So why do you figure he wants you?

Maybe it's another vicious case of racial injustice.

Right.

So what are you gonna do?

March on to prison?

Make my own contract...with you.

I'm finished with the old King.

Yeah, we I'm not.

I wonder if you can watch Susan and the kids

while I have a talk with King.

Are we talking cash money?

My only credit card's way over the limit.

I guess I just became

the most expensive babysitter in Boston.

Ha ha!

[instrumental music]

(Powers) 'Spenser, you've got me all wrong.'

'I'm shocked you'd suggest such a thing.'

(Spenser) It must be contagious.

Your lawyer Chadway was shocked

when I should him his business card that Tommy had.

Well, I hope you find whoever is trying to k*ll you.

As for me, I owe you a debt of gratitude.

Really?

For incarcerating me and giving me this chance to reform.

I'm becoming a law-abiding citizen.

And I wanna thank you for giving me this chance

to become clean and decent.

[chuckling]

You find that amusing?

Well, I was just picturing a guard hosing you down

with a bucket of lye and a wire brush.

That's the only way to get the dirt off of you, King Obey.

And the inside will take a frontal lobotomy.

Well, no matter how cute you get

you'll never live to see the day

I get caught dirty again.

And you can dance to that.

A hit-man with a Kn*fe couldn't do it

two K*llers with a g*n screwed up.

I hope you're not spending all your money

on lawyers, King Obey.

Because to keep up to this non-sense

is gonna cost you a fortune.

I appreciate your concern

but you don't have to worry, Spenser.

I happen to be a wealthy man.

An extraordinarily wealthy man..

...as far as you are concerned.

(Susan) 'You smell so nice and clean.'

(Jenny) Like a girl.

That's not so bad always.

Do you really use all this junk?

Ouch!

Not all at once, but yes, I do use them.

How you doin'?

"I'm fine, Spenser. How you doin'?"

(Jenny) 'Ouch!'

(Susan) 'If you hold still the brush'

'won't pull your hair.'

Does Spenser think this smells good?

Uh-huh!

That's why I wear it.

And he thinks you look sexy with this stuff on your face?

I certainly hope so.

And wearing all this is how

you got him to make love with you?

That's some thing I don't want to talk about.

Home is the hero. A little welcome.

Uh.

Spenser, tell me if I smell good.

Well, let's see.

[chuckling]

Without a doubt, one of the two

best smelling beauties in Boston.

Hey, kid, time for bed. Okay?

Well, there's a female who's, uh..

...certainly not afraid to speak her own mind.

(Susan) 'You mean, unlike me?'

Man, I don't know.

Sometimes you say things in other ways

like being upset right now.

And I don't think it's because of Jenny's breach

in good manners.

Or by not wanting to make love the other night.

First time that's ever happened..

...practically.

By avoiding the question I wanna ask.

Like what?

Are you pregnant?

[melancholic music]

Saying it out loud makes it sound so selfish

but damn it, this is just the worst time

for this to have happened.

Worst time?

You think there'd ever be a perfect time, Sus?

Convenience? Is that what we are talking about here?

Look, I love you.

And I know you too well to believe

that your motives will ever be selfish.

But I don't think you're telling me everything.

I think you're-you're afraid

to have this baby because of who I am.

Like Hawk having to come to protect you--

- No, that's not it. - We can work that out.

You and the baby could-could live in Smithfield.

You'd be safe there, and like I told you, we could get married.

We could work it out.

Spenser, part of loving you

is accepting who you are.

That includes your work.

I made a conscious decision

at the beginning of our relationship

that I wouldn't complain about the danger.

At least not a whole lot.

Damn it, Susan, I wanna know how you feel.

What I'm really talking about is independence.

All my life I've depended on someone.

First, my parents, then Frank..

I need a point where I can stand on my own

and feel some control over my own life.

To make decisions based on what I want.

If I have a baby now, I'll lose that.

So maybe it is selfish.

Susan, I understand about independence.

About people making decisions..

...without being controlled or forced.

'But this decision is not yours alone.'

'It's mine too.'

I've got a responsibility here.

I want it.

I'm prepared for it.

- 'Are you?' - Yes.

To be obligated in ways you can't begin to imagine?

Damn it, Susan, everything you're saying is absolutely true

and totally irrelevant.

This baby has a right to live.

What if I don't think it's a baby yet?

What if I think there's still a choice?

You're very lucky to be so sure..

...because the only thing I know right now is that I love you.

So you think the ultimate harmony world come from..

...us knowing we're independent creatures?

If it were my decision, I couldn't do it.

If I do..

...what about us?

I don't know.

[melancholic music]

[engine revving]

[intense music]

Mind if I borrow the sports page?

Jokes. jokes, jokes.

- I like jokes. - Oh, I get it.

You've realized you're outnumbered

and dropped by to surrender.

Let's go for a walk.

It's good we're not walking in the park.

They got laws against dogs, bikes and attempted m*rder.

That's right. It's illegal.

Hey, jokes. Hey, I love jokes.

[groans]

[engine revving]

[groaning]

[tires screeching]

[g*nsh*t]

[groans]

Hold it!

[truck honking]

What?

- No. No. - I know you.

Yeah, you're a lawyer for King Powers.

- No. No. - Meicy, right?

I never forget a guy who puts a g*n at me.

Alright, alright. Okay, but I can explain.

- Please, Spenser. - You know what?

- Just give me chance. - I think I'm gonna let you.

[instrumental music]

Pretty natty outfit, King Obey.

Prison uniform's looking mighty dapper these days.

Now, keep that bum away from me.

Just delivering a present.

The favorite singer I hit with a b*llet, you might say.

What is this?

(Arnold on tape recorder) 'My name is Arnold Meicy.'

'I am an attorney at law employed by King Powers.'

'At Mr. Power's direction, I engaged to Mr. Tommy Gordon'

'using another lawyer.'

'Ronald Chadway, as the money drop.'

Turn that damn thing off.

Can I talk to him alone for a minute?

What are you trying to do, Spenser? Scare me?

I don't wanna negotiate.

A pay off?

A trust fund for Tommy's kids.

Are you crazy?

(court officer #) Calling the case, the commonwealth of Massachusetts

versus King Powers.

Motion for new trial. Calling the case.

A trust fund?

Well, you told me what an extraordinarily

wealthy man you are.

I would figure a clean, decent human being

like yourself would jump at the chance.

It's either that or the first order of business inside

is me playing this tape for the judge.

(court officer #) 'Calling the case.'

I figure with time off for good behavior

it's worth about , a year till age .

Six for the boy, twelve for the girl.

That's almost grand.

Think of it as, uh, workman's comp for Tommy.

Who knows, maybe you could even write it off.

I'll write you off.

I thought your mind might go in that direction.

So I took the liberty of leaving

a copy of the tape in an envelope

for Lieutenant Quirk in homicide.

Gentlemen, please. Last call.

Commonwealth versus King Powers.

King..

You can make it a deposit

I'll deliver the tape.

Done.

I sure hope we don't have to shake hands.

I'll be out in six months.

Joy to the world.

[intense music]

Doing a lot better.

Hey, I found a terrific school for you and Jenny.

Where you can stay together.

It's not too far from Boston.

Well, I could come up and see you and, uh..

...you can come down and visit.

You got the money for that?

No.

It's coming from your father really.

'A guy who owed him.'

There'll be money for things like summer camp and college.

You gonna get a real chance, Rick.

'The important thing is, what you do with that chance.'

You gotta take charge of your life.

Cut the bull.

All this bull about honesty..

... and responsibility.

'Why don't you be honest and tell me what's going on.'

Nobody owed my dad, anything.

I owed him some, Rick.

'Yes.'

I took something from him that..

...can never be repaid.

You k*lled him, didn't you?

Yes.

You lied.

You told us, you cared about us, but you lied.

'You only did those things cause you felt guilty.'

You're a liar!

Wait, wait, hey.

Hey, listen.

Rick, hold it.

N-Now, look I'm sorry, I didn't tell you the truth

in the beginning.

I'm sorry, I had to k*ll your father.

Look, why isn't important.

You gotta know that I didn't have any choice.

'And another thing is true.'

At first I was looking after you and Jenny

because I-I did feel guilty and obligated but..

...now it's because I really care about you.

I don't believe you.

Nobody cares about me.

- Not even my own father. - No.

No, that's not true.

He always made sure you had clothes to wear

and food to eat and he never left you alone

'when he went away right?'

And he could have ditched you and left you in some home

but he didn't do that.

'And when I found his wallet'

'you know what he had in it?'

Just pictures of you and Jenny.

'So, maybe he wasn't the best father in the world'

'but he was yours.'

And don't think for a minute that he didn't love you.

'Cause he did.

Come on. Let's go.

[instrumental music]

(Spenser) Susan and I, had gone to w*r.

We came out on opposite sides

of an excruciating moral dilemma.

To our unyielding sorrow

had found no compromise.

[door opening]

[instrumental music]

Susan and I, had gone to w*r.

But we're still unyielding.

Loved each other.

I guess maybe that's only road to peace.
