MAN: Max and Ruby.

WOMAN: Ruby and her little brother Max.

♪ Max and Ruby

CHILDREN: Max and Ruby!

[Ruby humming]

I hope Louise likes

the extra-special card I made for her birthday.

Oh, I'm sure she will, Ruby.

That's a lovely kitty cat.

It's a unicorn, Grandma.

Oh!

[Chuckling]

So it is.

My turn again?

Let's see.

Where shall I move my checker?

Maybe... this way.

How about if I move this one?

Or maybe...that way.

Yes.

Max the champion wins again!

[Laughing]

How many times is that now?

Three times.

Hmm.

It's getting hard to see with these old eyeglasses.

It's a good thing

my new ones are ready to be picked up

at the department store.

And after that, Max the champion

better be ready for a rematch.

Yes, Grandma.

Finished.

Grandma, can Max and I go to the store with you?

I want to buy Louise something with my own money.

The more, the merrier.

What do you say, Max?

The store?

Let's go!

I wonder why Max is so excited.

We usually have to drag him along

when we go shopping.

Wait a second, Grandma.

I need to check my purse.

There, all set.

I have just enough money

to get Louise something for her birthday.

Can we go in?

We sure can.

Thank you, Max.

Why, such a gentleman.

Why don't you two look around for Louise's gift

while I pick up my new glasses?

Okay, Grandma.

Okay.

RUBY: Ooh, so many highlighters!

Look at all these wonderful

pens, pencils, and notepaper, Max.

What could be more wonderful than beautiful stationery?

[Electronic music playing]

The claw machine!

So that's why you were so excited

to come to the store.

Okay, go take a look,

but stay where Grandma and I can see you.

Do you have what it takes to be a champion?

Yes!

Whoa!

Step up and get ready to play.

Louise will love writing letters on this pretty paper.

Look at all the colours.

Ruby, can I play the claw machine?

Alright, Max.

You play the claw machine

while I buy Louise the perfect present,

this pretty pad of paper.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

Have fun.

Oh, dear!

That was the last one!

Now I'll have to find Louise a different present.

Welcome, player.

Do you have what it takes to be a champion?

Yes!

MACHINE: Way to go!

Work the claw and win a prize!

Keep on clawing!

Stegosaurus!

MACHINE: Ooh, so close!

Shall we play again?

Yes!

Hmm.

What would Louise like best?

A turtle stapler?

Star-shaped erasers?

Maybe...

[Gasping]

Ooh, scratch and sniff stickers!

Wow, peach, mint, roses, and chocolate.

Mmm, I bet they smell nice.

Ruby, can I play again?

Sure, Max.

You know, finding a gift for Louise

is a lot harder than I thought.

Looks like the claw machine is pretty hard to b*at.

Well, keep trying.

I'm sure Max the champion can do it.

Thanks, Ruby.

[Gasping]

Oh, no!

[Sighing]

Oh, dear.

I wonder what else Louise would like.

There.

Now, that's much better.

Ooh, I'll be the most stylish grandma in East Bunnyhop.

[Laughing]

I spy with my Grandma eye

something that is white and huggable...

Max.

And there's my Ruby.

Ooh, what lovely scarves.

A new scarf is just the thing

to wear with my stylish new glasses.

Welcome, player.

Do you have what it takes to be a champion?

Yes.

MACHINE: Way to go!

Yeah!

Aw!

So close.

Shall we play again?

The red one or the flowered one?

I just can't decide.

Oh, Max!

Which one do you like?

The one with the flowers, Grandma.

Oh, that's the one that I like best, too.

We have a winner.

Thanks, Max.

You're welcome, Grandma.

RUBY: This pretty pen is perfect for Louise.

It's so glittery.

Can I play another game, Ruby?

Please?

Okay, I'll give you one more coin,

but no more, okay?

I know you'll win this time.

After all, you're Max the champion, right?

Right.

Thanks, Ruby.

I didn't think I'd find the perfect gift for Louise,

but I kept trying, and then I found it.

See?

Uh-huh, yes.

[Register beeping and dinging]

I brought just the right amount of money

for my new glasses and a new scarf.

Well, Max, now,

what do you think of your stylish grandma?

You look pretty, Grandma.

[Laughing]

Why, thank you, Max.

Oh, Grandma, that scarf looks beautiful with your new glasses.

Thanks, Ruby.

Is that your present for Louise?

Yes, isn't it pretty?

Do you think she'll like it?

Like it?

I think she'll love it.

Good.

I'm going to buy it.

[Gasping]

Oh, no.

I don't have enough money.

I gave it all to Max

so he could play the claw machine.

[Sighing]

And I just spent all my money

on new glasses and a scarf.

That's okay, Grandma.

I still have the card I made for Louise,

and maybe I can come back tomorrow.

Welcome, player.

Do you have what it takes to be a champion?

Yes, I do.

There he is.

[Gasping]

Did you get the present for Louise?

No.

It seems both Ruby and I spent all of our money today.

But that's okay.

My birthday card for Louise will be special enough.

What are you waiting for, player?

Let's get clawing.

[Max, Ruby, Grandma gasping]

ALL: Ooh.

Winner, winner, winner!

Yes!

[Electronic music playing]

This can be for Louise.

Really?

Wow, thanks, Max.

Scratch and sniff stickers,

a pretty pad of paper,

and a glittery pen!

Oh, Max, you won

everything I wanted to give to Louise as a gift.

But you didn't win anything for yourself.

Big winner!

The champion!

Yes, I did.

That's me, Max the champion!

Where are we going?

We're going to Katie's Diner

to make a reservation for tonight.

How come?

It's Mom and Dad's wedding anniversary.

We're treating them to a nice pizza dinner.

Mmm!

I love pizza.

[Vehicle approaching]

Here comes the bus!

[Brakes squeaking]

[Brakes squeaking]

GRANDMA: What's this?

What is it, Grandma?

What's wrong?

Katie's Diner is closed today.

It says she's on vacation.

Oh, dear.

I guess that means--

No pizza.

Oh, no.

Mom and Dad were looking forward to it.

Now what will we do?

I know of a fantastic pizza dough recipe

that Mr. Piazza gave me.

Why don't we make a special anniversary dinner?

Make pizza?

Well, it's not the same as going out,

but it would be fun.

I'll be Max the chef!

I think you'd better leave the cooking to Grandma.

But you can help us turn the house

into a restaurant for the night.

With menus and fancy napkins.

And maybe we can even get Mr. Piazza

to sing a song for Mom and Dad.

Max and Ruby's restaurant.

I like it.

[Laughing]

And as soon as we get back,

I'll give Mr. Piazza a call.

I'm sure he won't mind.

Yay!

Did you hear that, Max?

Our very own restaurant!

It's a good thing Mom and Dad are out for the afternoon.

It'll be fun to surprise them

with a special dinner at home.

Speaking of surprises,

Mr. Piazza said he'd be happy

to serenade your mom and dad during dinner.

[Gasping]

That's great, Grandma!

We'll make this a very special evening for them.

I'm ready to make pizza!

RUBY: I know you want to help, Max,

but Grandma is in charge of the pizza.

We're going to decorate the house

so it looks like a restaurant.

But I really want to shape the dough.

[Gasping]

I love your hat.

Now, don't worry, Chef Max.

I've made lots of dough for the pizza,

and I even have some for you to play with.

Thanks, Grandma.

First, we need to set the table, please.

[Sighing]

Okay.

RUBY: Remember, forks go on this side,

knives go on that side.

Other way, Max.

There.

Can you please grab the napkins from the kitchen?

Okay!

[Humming]

Beautiful.

Max!

I wonder what's taking him so long?

Oh, Max!

Max, you're supposed to be helping me.

I am helping.

I'm making shapes.

See?

A circle.

Good job, Max.

But right now, we need to finish

making the restaurant for our surprise.

GRANDMA:Aha!

There's the cheese.

Okay.

Thanks, Max.

Now we need to make the menus, colourful ones.

Won't that be fun?

Yes.

I'll start drawing the next menu

while you colour this in, okay?

Okay.

Hmm, no red one.

There's a box of markers in the kitchen.

Maybe check with Grandma.

Okay.

There.

Beautiful.

[Sighing]

Where's Max?

Oh, Max!

Look, Grandma.

I made a square.

You're quite the chef.

Oh.

[Laughing]

My chef hat.

Ooh!

Whoa!

I think this is yours.

You were supposed to be

helping me colour the menus, Max.

I'm making shapes.

I'm going to make a triangle next.

I just need to get my chef hat.

I finished the menus for our restaurant.

What do you think, Grandma?

I love them, Ruby.

They're wonderful!

[Chuckling]

Thanks.

Our restaurant is almost ready for business.

The pizza will be ready soon, too.

Wow.

I just need to add the sauce and the toppings,

and then I'll pop it into the oven.

I can't wait.

I've got the flowers and menus, and we've set the table.

Hmm, what am I missing?

Time to make more shapes.

Not yet, Max.

I know what I forgot.

We need outfits.

Huh?

If we're going to serve the food,

we'll need to look like waiters.

Come on!

What do you think, Max?

Nice flowers, a fancy tablecloth, the menus.

Now all we're missing is the music.

[Knocking at door]

[Gasping]

That must be Mr. Piazza.

Hello, Ruby.

Hi, Mr. Piazza.

Come in.

Are you ready to sing a song for Mom and Dad?

Yes, a lovely anniversary song.

We can't wait, Mr. Piazza.

Grandma is very excited, and Mom and Dad will love it!

Won't they, Max?

Max?

What shape are you going to make next, Max?

A triangle.

Or maybe... a rectangle or...

[Gasping]

Wait, I know!

Mr. Piazza is here, Grandma.

Hello, Max.

Hi, Mr. Piazza.

I'm Chef Max.

[Clearing throat]

Chef Max.

And good evening, madam.

Oh, Mr. Piazza, I'm so happy

you agreed to sing a song for us this evening.

It's very kind of you.

It's my pleasure.

Are you ready, Max?

Mom and Dad will be here soon.

Grandma just needs to throw

the pizza in the oven and--

[Door opening]

[Gasping]

Hello!

Anybody home?

They're here!

Put down the pizza dough, Max.

Come on!

Good evening.

Welcome to Max and Ruby's restaurant.

[Laughing]

Wow, are we in the right place?

Well, it does look like a lovely restaurant.

Thank you.

Your table is ready.

Happy anniversary!

My goodness, what a wonderful surprise.

Thank you.

I like this restaurant already.

This way.

Follow me.

Please, have a seat.

Oh, what beautiful flowers.

The table looks so nice.

Thank you.

Max and I set it.

Here are your menus.

Amazing.

So, what's good tonight?

What do you suggest?

Pizza!

The pizza is the tastiest thing on the menu.

It's the only thing.

[Laughing]

Yes, but it's delicious.

Well, then, we'll have the pizza.

One pizza coming up, okay, Max?

Max?

Um, would you excuse me?

I'll be right back.

Oh, bravo!

Your pizza-making skills are almost as good as mine.

Almost?

[Laughing]

The pizza can go in the oven now, Grandma and Max.

Chef Max.

I'm sorry, but this is no time to play with the dough.

We have a restaurant to run

and a pizza to get in the oven and--

But look, Ruby, I made a special shape.

A heart?

A heart-shaped pizza?

That's... amazing, Max.

Mom and Dad will love it.

It's perfection!

Time to put it in the oven.

[Dinging]

Everybody stand back.

Whoa!

You're a wonder in the kitchen.

Thank you.

RUBY: Is it ready?

Mom and Dad look hungry.

It's ready, and it looks--

MAX: Great!

GRANDMA: Yes!

It's almost time for you to sing, Mr. Piazza.

I'm ready.

Ta-da!

Your happy anniversary pizza.

Oh, look, it's a heart.

What a wonderful surprise.

It was Max's idea.

Chef Max.

Well, thank you, Chef Max, and all of you.

We couldn't have asked for a nicer anniversary meal.
