[coughs, chuckling]

Oh, I should havecleared out this attic

a long time ago.

So much dust!

And spider webs.

Should I bringthat box, too?

Yes, please.

What is that?

A rocket ship!

Ooh, Max!

You foundmy old space toys!

I forgotthey were up here.

This one is called "Fred".

He's a space-exploring robot.

Can I play with them?

Sure.

Can I play, too?

[giggles] Yes!

I thought we werecleaning the attic,

[chuckles]

[clattering]

[gasps] Oh, look!

Was this from whenyou were little, too?

[laughs]

Oh, I'm not that old.

I used to volunteerat the Bunnyhop Museum,

and I have a few old hats,

and some games

and household things,

just like they useda long time ago.

We used to put onold-fashioned picnics

at the museum.

We called them"ice-cream socials".

Ice cream?

They had ice creamin the olden days?

Sure!

In fact...

[gasps]

Here it is!

My old-fashionedice-cream maker.

Grandma?

If we have hats,and games,

and an ice-cream maker,

maybe we could have

our ownice-cream social?

Now, I thought you wantedto finish cleaning the attic.

Oh, well, I...

I'm just kidding.

Ice-cream socialit is!

Whoo-hoo, yeah!

Yay!

[♪♪♪]

This one's nicefor a picnic.

[Max imitating rocket engine]

Choo-whoo!

[imitating blast]

I don't knowwhich one I like best.

Pew-whoosh!

When will we haveice cream?

[laughs]

Oh, it'll be a while yet.

I need to cook the ingredientson the stove

before we can put themin the ice-cream maker.

That's okay.

It'll give us timeto pick out the perfect hats.

Well, I guess I'd betterlook up my old ice-cream recipe

and get busy.

Now, let's see.

What could you wear?

Ooh, how about this?

It's perfect foran olden-days picnic.

Okay,

then find somethingyou do like.

I'm going to goand try these on

in front of a mirror.

[imitating rocket blasting]

Choo-whoo!

[♪♪♪]

Max!

Max, where'd you go?

Boop. Beep. Bop. Boop.

[sighs] Max...

what are you wearing?

I. Am. Robo-Max.

Robots don't eatice cream.

Yes. I. Do.

Chocolate.

Oh, good, becausethat's what we're making.

Is it ready?

Not yet.

I just cooked the creamand sugar together,

but it has to cool down

before we can put itin the ice-cream maker.

Beep. Bop. Boop...

In the meantime,

why don't we play

some old-fashionedpicnic games?

Oh, yes,that will be fun.

What do we have?

Hmm...

Sticks and hoops.

A croquet set!

Oh, I love croquet.

Want to play, Max?

Must. Explore...

Space!

[chuckles]

Well, maybe he'llplay the next round.

[♪♪♪]

Good sh*t, Miss Ruby.

Why, thank you, Grandmother.

[giggles]

Did you see that, Max?

Uh-huh.

[winding gears]

Well, you hit it through,so you get to go again.

Here's the next wicket.

Steady...

Aim...

Hey!

Oops. I'll get it.

Oh!

Whoa!

Oof!

Are you okay?

Robo-Max.Is. Not. Broken.

Well, thankgoodness for that.

Boop. Beep. Bop. Boop.

Max, this is supposed to bean old-fashioned picnic.

Don't you think it's timeto take off those boxes?

No.

Boop. Boop...

Shall we start over?

No, I think we need to finda game that Max will like

even more than playingspace robot.

Preparing. For. Launch.

[imitating blasting engine]

Now, this isa really fun game

that they used to playin the olden days.

The game of Graces.

It's called that

because it was considereda very graceful game to play.

What do we do?

It's like playing catch.

All you have to do is pullyour sticks apart quickly...

to toss the ring.

I did it!

Max, you should try this.

No, thank you.

Come on.

It's really fun.

You just cross your stickslike this,

and thenlaunch the ring.

Launch?

Like a rocket?

Okay!

[imitating rocket engine]

That's the spirit!

Three. Two. One...

[imitates rocket blast]

[thuds]

[sighs]

[laughs] Again!

[imitates rocket blast]

Well, at leasthe's playing it.

Yes, just notthe way they did

in the olden days.

[♪♪♪]

[imitates rocket blast]

Max, are you almost finishedbeing a space robot?

[gears whirring]

Boop. Boop. Boop...

Who ever heard of a robotat a picnic?

Ice cream!

[chuckling]Oh, it's not icy yet.

I need your helpto freeze it.

The mixture goes here,

and then we need to put iceand salt all around it.

Like this.

It's soold-fashioned.

I'll pour the salt.

More. Ice.

Boop. Boop.

Thank you, Max.

Okay, we're all set.

Now, to stir the mixwhile it's freezing,

we just crank the handle.

What handle?

Uh-oh.

Where's the handle?

If we can't crank it,

the ice creamwon't freeze properly.

Oh, no.

Maybe it fell offin the attic?

Good thinking.

Let's go and see.

[♪♪♪]

Any luck, Ruby?

No.

And we've looked everywhere.

Are there any morespace toys?

We don't needanother space toy, Max.

We need a handle.

Boop. Beep. Bop. Boop.

[sighs sadly]

What a shame.

After we wentto all the trouble

of making ice cream.

What's that?

[crash]

Look!

Max found it!

It's a moon rover!

I guess we did needanother space toy.

Must. Explore.

Moon!

[laughing]

Boop. Boop.

My, isn't it a fine dayfor an ice-cream social?

Indeed, it is, Miss Ruby!

And I do believeI was wrong

about robots notbelonging at picnics.

This one has turned outto be rather helpful.

Boop.

Boop.

Boop...

[straining] Boop!

Oh, dear.

Maybe he needs oil.

Or maybe the ice creamis finally frozen.

[gasps] It's ready!

Who gets the first bowl?

Robo-Max!

so they don't break.

I play with it, too.

I hope I didn'tget too many.

What if I can'tsell them all?

Oh, you will.

Once people see them, everybody will want one.

Maybe you could put themin your store window?

Good idea.

But I've been so busy,

I don't knowif I'll find the time

to make a display.

I could make a snow globedisplay for you.

I've always wantedto decorate a store window.

That's so niceof you, Ruby.

To make the backof the display higher.

Then, we can coverthe whole thing

with fluffy cotton.

It'll lookjust like snow!

[♪♪♪]

And we can add trees, and houses,

and the littlefigures I brought.

Figures?

Like these, Max.

Little skaters and skiersand all kinds of things!

I need thesefor my snow.

for a while.

I'll take skiers.

It was an accident.

Good thing there weren'tany snow globes on it yet.

That's true.

At least now we know

You're welcome.

I'll get the tape.

Swoosh...

No peeking!

I wouldn't dream of it.

Whew! That was close.

[♪♪♪]

Ruby...

I want to playwith my snow.

I know,

but we can't affordanymore snow storms

right now.

What we really needis a clean window.

All you have to do is

spray on thiswindow cleaner...

[spraying]

...then wipe it off.

[sniffing]

It smells.

It's just vinegar and water.

Please?

It would be a big help.

Okay.
