Emily elizabeth:
celebrating spring.

Martha miller, tell
us about the city
restoration project.

This is your
organization,
right?

Well, I may have started it,
but hundreds of people
keep it going.

We're all volunteers,
dedicated to making
the city beautiful

By turning
vacant lots
like this...

Into fabulous gardens
like this.

[Both barking]

Wow!
Wow!

The city restoration
project sounds like
a great organization.

Oh, I wish
they'd help us.

That empty lot behind
our building is icky.

Nina, we don't need
to wait for someone to
help us with that lot.

We can do it
ourselves.

[Barking]

You know,
we could!

And I'll bet the other
kids in the building
will want to help too.

Boy, this place
really does need
to be fixed up.

And we're
just the kids
to do it.

[Both barking]

Hey, look at this.

With a little work,
I can turn this old
bathtub into a fountain.

Wow!
Great idea,
evan!

And I can make a bamboo
archway, like the one
in my uncle's garden.

Yeah! That
will be cool!terrific!

I can't wait to see
this place filled
with plants and trees.

"None of them had gotten
a letter of their own
in a long time, either.

"Then speckle said he knew
how they could all get mail.

"They could write
letters to each other.

"Luna wrote about the apple tree
in her backyard

"And the day it
blossomed with flowers.

"Reba wrote about
her last basketball game

"And how she scored
the winning point.

"Darnell and ravi wrote
about the great new books

"They checked out
from the library.

"And speckle wrote a letter
that was all pictures,

"Drawings of every one
of his favorite activities.

"Soon luna's mailbox
was filled with letters,

"And so were everyone else's,

"And they enjoyed
reading and sharing
their very own letters

"With all of their friends.

The end."

Are you all right?

[Both meow]

I guess you are,

But it doesn't look
like that little
tree branch is.

Because it's broken,

We'll put it into
the compost pile
to mulch,

Along with
our leaves and
grass clippings.

That way, it'll turn
into nice, rich soil.

Wait, mr. Solomon.
I heard the branch
break.

May I have it?

Why, certainly, jenny.

Here it is.

This is a willow branch,
which means it doesn't
have to be composted.

No? How come?

Because this willow
branch can grow into
a whole new tree

Now that the growing
season is here.

Do you hear that,
flo and zo?

A whole new tree.

[Both meowing]

Heh heh heh!

Okay,
planting crew.

First,
we dig a hole.

One freshly
dug hole,
coming up.

All done.

[Barking]

[Giggling]
that's right,
clifford.

Now it's time
to plant
the branch.

Next comes the compost.

Here you go,
jenny.

It looks a lot like dirt.
What's it made of?

All sorts of things:

Grass clippings,
wood chips,

Even our leftover
fruits and vegetables

That have broken down
over time to make our own
healthy, homemade soil.

[Sniffing]

[Kids laughing]

Good sh*t, clifford.

Now we need
to pat the compost
in around the tree.

The little willow's
all planted, jenny.

Great! Now all we
have to do is water it.

I've already filled
the watering can.

Ruff!

Clifford: gosh, guys.

Do you think we should
keep the little willow
company while it grows?

I don't know, clifford.

That sounds like
it could take a really
long time to me.

Me, too.

But we just can't
go off to play

And leave poor little
willow all alone.

I know! We could give
her one of our toys
to play with!

Good idea!
Come on, flo!

Okay, zo.

I know just
the one.

Uh, jorge,

Do trees play
with toys?

Mm-hmm.
I don't know.

But we like toys,
so maybe trees do too.

Hey!

Oh!

Come back!
Bibby! Bibby!
Come here!

[Both gasp]

Oh!
Oh!

[Both barking]

Bibby!
Bibby!

Clifford: whoa!

Uh...uh-oh.

Oh, no!

Bibby's
all broken!

Oh, that is
a tough break
there, kit cats.

Looks like your
bibby is headed
for the rubbish heap.

[Sniffling]
[crying]

He was our
favorite toy too!

And we were going
to share him
with little willow.

Isn't that great?
Little willow.

Who is that?

We'll show you,
norville.

She used to be
a broken branch.

Uh-huh, but soon
she'll grow into
a whole new tree.

Si. That's because
the growing season
is here.

Oh, the, uh,
growing season,
you say.

Uh-huh.

Uh-huh.

Well, you know,
if a broken branch

Can be grown into
a whole new tree,

Then it only stands
to reason that
a broken toy

Can be grown into
a whole new toy.

And, besides,
you said it yourself:
"tis the growing season."

Are you sure, norville?

Am I sure?
Of course I'm sure!

I'm a bird
who knows things.

Then we can
grow bibby!

All right!

Whoopee! Yay!

Hey, clifford,

Do you think we
could grow our
broken toys too?

Uh...

Uh-huh! I sure do!

Woo hoo!
Ha ha!

[Barks]

Wow. Who knew
we had so many
broken toys?

We sure are
hard on things,

But thanks to
the growing season,

They don't have to
be broken anymore.

Jorge: clifford,
that's not a broken toy.

That's your favorite
almost-all-chewed-up bone.

I know, jorge,

But I thought
it might grow into
a whole new bone.

Heh!
It's worth a try.

Uh...okay.

So, now what do we do?

The best part!
We dig!

So, kids, how's it--

[Sputtering]

Going?

All: great!

And now, mi amigos,
the compost.

Okay,
everybody.

You know
what to do.

Okay, let's fill her up!

This will help
our toys grow.

Now it's time
for the fun part.

[Sighs]
that's all of them.

We did it!

Now all we have
to do is add agua.

You know, water.

Okay, flo and zo,
turn on the hose.

[Both grunting]

Whoa. Looks like
they need a paw.

Right.

[All grunting]

Over here!
I got it, guys!
I got it!

[All laughing and shouting]

Get it!
Whoa!

All: get it!

Whoooa!

[Gasps]

Jorge: whoa...

[Clifford barking]

[Barking and meowing]

[Water squirting]

I'll get the water!
You guys, get the animals!

Gotcha!
Gotcha!

[Sighs]

I don't get it.
What are all these
broken toys doing here?

I don't know.

Wait a minute.
This is a wheelie toy.

It was one of
clifford's favorites,
until it broke.

And this is jorge's
old barking bitsy toy.

[Giggles]
it used to be
his favorite.

Hey!

What do you get
when you take half of
a barking bitsy toy...

And put it
together with half
of a wheelie toy?

Well...
A half and a half
does make a whole.

That's right, nina!
A whole new toy.

Correct.

Come on, let's see
what else is in here.

Oh, pass me that,
I have an idea.
You have some glue?

Hey, that looks good.

You know, guys,
I think we just invented
a whole new season.

You mean one like
the growing season?

Uh-huh, only
I call this...

The recycling season.

That's right.

We're making old toys into
brand-new ones.

[Barking and meowing]

All right, is this great or
what?

There's no need to fear,
my furry little friends.

Everything turned out
just like I said it would.

It did?

No, it didn't.

Not at all.

Well, you did plant
your old toys,

And they did grow
into new toys.

You know, almost.

All: norville!

Yeah!

Well, it sort of
happened,

You know,
like I said
it would have,

Kind of, maybe.

[Chuckling]

it sort of did,

Kind of, maybe.

Ha ha! Anyway,
our broken toys
are fixed.

It's terrific!
