[MUSIC PLAYING]

-[SINGING] It's a beautiful
day in this neighborhood,

a beautiful for a neighbor.

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

It's a neighborly day
in this beauty-wood,

a neighborly day for a beauty.

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

I have always wanted to have
a neighbor just like you.

I've always wanted to live
in a neighborhood with you.

So let's make the most
of this beautiful day.

Since we're together, we might
as well say would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

Won't you be my neighbor?

Won't you please,
won't you please,

please won't you be my neighbor?

Hi neighbor!

I'm glad we're back together
again in this neighborhood.

I brought a photograph
album to show you today.

It's an album in which there
are pictures of people who look

just like their
brother or sister.

They're sometimes called twins.

I'd just like you
to see these twins.

MR. ROGERS: They have the same
parents and the same birthday.

But even with all that,
each one is special.

Fun for you to see
all these twins?

Now here's a picture
of twin girls,

whose names are
Megan and Kelly, who

are going to visit
with us today.

Marilyn Barnett
is their teacher.

And she's going to bring
them by so we can meet them.

And we'll all do some
exercises together.

Even though they
look just alike,

still each one is unique.

Each one is her own
person, just like you.

There's only one like you.

[SINGING]: There's
only one like you.

Nobody else, nobody else,
nobody else, but you.

And that's true.

[KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK,
KNOCK, KNOCK]

-OH, maybe that's Marilyn
Barnett, Megan and Kelly now.

No, it's Mr. McFeely,

-Speedy delivery.

Speedy delivery!

I have a delivery for you.

-But I don't think
I ordered anything.

-Oh no you didn't, but I thought
you'd like to have these.

-Something for me?

-Something for you.

-Oh, what are they?

-Why don't you just open it
up and look inside the box?

-I thought you'd like
to have these, he said.

-Ha-ha!

-Oh!

Wooden shoes!

-That's right, wooden shoes!

[KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK]

-Oh, did you know
that I'd always

wanted to see what a pair
wooden shoes was like?

-No, I just guessed.

-Try them on ahead.

See if they fit.

You know people use wooden shoes
in very muddy and wet places.

-They fit fine.

-They fit alright.
-Try the other.

-Oh yes.

A lot of people in a low
countries use wooden shoes.

-That's right, in
the low countries.

-Ha!

-Walk about.

-Well, thank you.

Clomp, clomp, clomp.

Oh!

I've always wondered
about wooden shoes.

In fact, I wonder how
people make wooden shoes.

-I wondered would
never ask the question

because in here,
I have a delivery.

And this delivery
is a videocassette.

-Oh, Mr. McFeely!

-And there you go.

-How People Make Wooden Shoes.

You're a veritable video
library, Mr. McFeely.

-Well, I like to learn
about a lot of things.

-Video Encyclopedia McFeely.

-That's what they call me.

-May we show this
on Picture Picture?

-Let's show it in
Picture Picture.

And as we're watching,
I'll tell you all about it.

-And I'll stand in
the wooden shoes.

-Alrighty.

-How People Make Wooden
Shoes, what a treat!

MR. MCFEELY: When people
make wooden shoes,

they begin with blocks of wood.

Now this man is getting
the machine ready.

And then, he puts in
two blocks of wood.

There's one.

MR. ROGERS: Is that one
on the right already made?

MR. MCFEELY: Oh, no.

That's not a wooden shoe.

It's a plastic form that
looks like a wooden shoe.

MR. ROGERS: A form.

MR. MCFEELY: A
form, that's right.

Well, you'll see.

It helps the machine carve
the wood into the right shape.

You see?

MR. ROGERS: Oh, I see.

It's like a model.

MR. MCFEELY: That's right.

Now, he's checking to make
sure the machine is carving

the wood in just the right way.

And I guess it is.

MR. ROGERS: Well, now they
look just like that model.

MR. MCFEELY: They surely do.

Now, he takes the
wooden shoes over

to this other man who puts them
in a machine that carves out

of the inside so you can put
your foot into the shoes.

MR. ROGERS: That
machine has a model,

too, right in the middle.

MR. MCFEELY: That's right.

Now the blades are
going to cut out.

You see, there are the blades.

And they begin to cut the wood.

MR. ROGERS: Mm-hmm.

MR. MCFEELY: And the blades
cut deeper and deeper

until the shoes all cleared out.

See here comes
the wood shavings.

MR. ROGERS: Mm-hmm.

MR. MCFEELY: Ah, out
come the shavings.

He takes them out
of this machine.

MR. ROGERS: What's he doing now?

MR. MCFEELY: He's
using a sanding machine

to round off the front and
back parts of each shoe.

See there goes a little
bit of the wood still left.

MR. ROGERS: Ah-ha!

MR. MCFEELY: He's working on
that one, on the front part.

Here's the other shoe.

A little more
here, he takes off.

Now it goes to another machine.

It's another sanding machine.

And he smooths the shoes.

MR. ROGERS: That's fun to watch.

MR. MCFEELY: And he makes
sure that everything is OK.

He checks them over.

And then he puts
them on the shelf

with other finished
pairs of wooden shoes.

There they are.

-So interesting.

-They all look the
same, but each one's

a little different
from the other.

-It's it wonderful?

-Each person's feet
are different from all

the other feet in the world.

-Yeah, just like our hands,
and our eyes, and our insides.

They're somewhat alike
for everybody, you know.

But not exactly alike.

-Even twins are somewhat
different from each other.

-I was just talking with
my friend about that

just before you came.

Incidentally, thank
you very much for--

-Oh no, they're yours to keep.

-To keep?

-To keep!

I have some at home.

When I do my
gardening, I use them.

-Oh, Thank you very much.

You're a generous
man, Mr. McFeely.

-They're for you.

But right now, I'll say
speedy delivery to you.

-And speedy delivery to you.

Thank you very much.

MR. MCFEELY: You're
welcome, buh-bye!

-For me to keep!

[CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP]

-Ha-ha!

Oh!

I like these shows.

I think I feed the
fish in these shoes.

Here I come fish, to feed
you in my wooden shoes.

They're hungry Again

-[SINGING]:There's
only one like you.

Nobody else, nobody else,
there's only one like you.

-While we're waiting
for our visit

with Marilyn Barnett
and her students,

let's have some make-believe
in wooden shoes.

[DING, DING

-Hello, Trolley.

[DING, DING]

-Last time, we pretend that
Robert Troll found a drawing

of a cake that Chef
Brockett was going

to make for Cornflake
S. Pecially's birthday.

Since the drawing has
Corney's name on it,

Robert Troll thinks he'd
better take it to Corney.

But he doesn't know
it's a surprise.

So let's make-believe more about
that now, as the trolley goes

by the castle garden in the
neighborhood of make-believe.

[DING, DING]

[DING, DING]

[DING, DING]

[TOOT, TOOT]

-Oh, hi Trolley.

[DING, DING]

-Is it next time already?

[TOOT, TOOT]

[DING, DING]

-Oh, well good.

Thank you.

Thank you very much.

I'd better get this
over to Cornflake.

[TRUMPETS BLARING]

-Robert T. Troll, I presume?

-Ah, correct as
usual, King Friday.

[MUMBLING]

-Do you have a moment for
a King- Troll conference?

-Well, of course I-- a King-
Troll conference you say?

-Yes.

-Absolutely.

-I'd like to talk
about the young prince.

-Ah, Prince Tuesday?

-Exactly.

-You look sad, King Friday.

Is anything wrong
with the prince?

I mean he's not sick is he?

What's this about?

-He told me he
doesn't like himself.

-Oh, he doesn't like himself.

-It's not like him
to not like himself.

It's irrelevant, King Friday.

-Well, it's something
about wearing

robes and being a prince.

Oh such worries!

A king has many
worries Robert Troll.

-I sure wish I could
help King Friday.

-You do help.

Yes, you are a
friend to the court.

Farewell.

-OK, farewell King Friday.

And listen, anytime you want
to talk you just let me know.

[MUMBLING] He's gone.

Ha-ha.

Oh, well.

[MUMBLING]

[CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP,
CLOMP]

-Oh, hi Robert Troll.

-Hey, Neighbor Aber.

They sure are some loud
shoes you have on there.

NEIGHBOR ABER: Yes, they are.

I was going to show
them to Prince Tuesday.

-Good idea.

Oh, very good idea!

-Well, what do you mean?

-Well, I hear that he could
use some Neighbor Aber time.

That's just a troll hunch, but
I believe what I say is true.

[MUMBLING]

-We all need our
friends, don't we?

-Yeah, we all have
to have some love

in our lives, that's for sure.

-I know you have it.

-Well I try. [MUMBLING]

-[SINGING]:When your heart
has butterflies inside it,

then your heart is full of love.

When your heart feels
just like overflowing,

then you heart is full of love.

-[SINGING]:Yes, love is
fragile as your tears.

-[SINGING]: Love is
stronger than your fears.

When your heart beats
for a special someone,

then your heart is full of love.

When your has a
room for everybody,

then your heart is full of love.

-Oh you gentlemen
sing so beautifully.

-Well, thanks Queen Sara.

-Oh yes.

-Are you doing something
at Corney's factory today?

-Actually, I'm looking
for something here.

-Oh?

-Well, I'm delivering something.

-Could we help you Queen Sara.

-Well, what I'm looking for
was in the castle garden.

-What, what, what,
was it, Queen Sara?

-It was a drawing
of a birthday cake

that we would going to
make for Mr. Pecially.

And it's a surprise.

-Oh, a surprise!

Well, I'm surely
glad that I didn't--

-Well, hello there everybody.

-Oh, hi Corney.

-Anything I can do for you?

-Not exactly, Mr. Pecially.

I think Mr. Aber
may have something.

-I do?

Oh, oh!

I mean I do, yes.

I'd like you to take a look
at my new wooden shoes .

I just want a wood maker's
professional opinion.

-Well, they certainly
sound good enough to me.

But bring them inside and I'll
take a closer look at them.

-OK.

-See you all later, then.

-You certainly will.

I hope Corney didn't hear
the talk about surprise.

-I hope he didn't see this.

-You have it!

Oh Corney's surprise
birthday cake!

-Yeah.

Well, it had his name
on it Queen Sara.

And I figured well, it
had to be his. [MUMBLING]

-Oh, Robert Troll.

We found each
other just in time.

-Yes.

-A queen has so
much to think about.

-I think we all do
really. [MUMBLING]

-Yes, well farewell my dear.

You'll bring it over won't you?

-Yes, ma'am I sure will.
[MUMBLING] Bye, Queen Sara.

-Whoa!

-All clear.

-You saved the day with
that surprise I'll tell you.

-Like your heart full of love.

-Yeah, why don't we go
see Prince Tuesday, OK?

-Good idea.

-And we'll find a nice
safe place for this.

-Oh yeah, yeah.

Ah-ha-ha!

[DING, DING]

-Yes, we found that out Trolley.

ROBERT TROLL: We sure did!

[DING, DING]

[DING, DING]

[DING, DING]

[TOOT, TOOT]

[DING, DING]

-So we'll make-believe
about Corney's birthday

later this week.

Why do you suppose Prince
Tuesday doesn't like

wearing royal
robes and all that?

We'll just think more
about that next time.

I like that song that
Neighbor Aber sang about love.

-[SINGING]: Love is
fragile as your tears.

Love is stronger
than your fears.

When your heart beats
for a special someone,

then your heart is full of love.

When your heart has
room for everybody,

then your heart is full of love.

Did you ever feel,
so full of love,

that you just felt like
saying Mmm-mmm-mmm?

[PHONE RINGS]

-There's the telephone.

Let's see who that is.

PHONE RINGS]

-Hello?

Hi, Marilyn.

Yes, Megan and Kelly.

Oh good.

Could, could you
make me outside?

OK.

Yeah I'd like to try
wearing these wooden shoes

that I have one.

Yeah, wooden shoes.

OK.

See you in a little bit.

Buh-bye.

Marilyn says she and Megan and
Kelly will be over very soon.

So let's just meet
them out here.

Wonder what it's be
like to do the exercises

in these wooden shoes.

[CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP]

-When your heart has
room for everybody,

then your heart is full of love.

Oh, they are now.

That was quick!

[CLOMP, CLOMP]

-Hi!

-Hi, Fred!

-Hello!

-These are the twins I
was telling you about.

This is Megan.

No, this is Kelly.

-Kelly, I'm very
glad to meet you.

-And this is Megan.

-Hi.

-Hello Megan.

-Hello.

-Oh, you look very much alike.

I was just wondering,
do you like being twins?

-Yes.

-Do you?

I mean are you friends?

-Best friends.

-Best friends?

Well, you look so much alike,
what's different about you?

-We have different
personalities.

-You have different
insides, of course.

-And we like different colors.

And we collect different things.

-You do?

What do you collect?

-Well, I collect bunnies.

And she collects bears.

-Bunnies and bears, great.

-And they both love sport .

Basketball, soccer, gymnastics.

-And you're there teacher.

-Yes.

And they're good students.

Well, they're
fortunate to have you.

-Thank you.

-Now, do you have some
exercises that you'd like to do?

Or that Marilyn has taught you?

Ms. Barnett has taught to you?

-We have some special
exercises today.

Would we like to show
them to Fred, Mr. Rogers?

-Sure.

-OK, Let's start with a warm-up.

Let's warm up.

-Oh that's right.

-We always start with a warm-up.

-OK.

-What are we going
to do, jog in place?

-Now, I've got my wooden
shoes on so you have to--

[CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP]

-Be careful with
those wooden shoes!

[CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP,
CLOMP]

-We always start with
the warm-up don't you?

-We always warm the body.

Make sure the heart's
b*ating nice and fast.

Then we're ready to
bend and stretch.

-Bend and stretch, OK.

-OK, that's enough.

Let's show him those
special exercises.

-Now, your Kelly.

-Yes.

-And you're Megan.

Good.

OK.

What is it?

-It's a mirror exercise.

-Oh, mirror.

This is great.

-One leads and
the other follows.

MARILYN BARNETT:
They're very safe too,

because you do these
exercises very slowly.

MR. ROGERS: You don't have
to be twins to do that.

MARILYN BARNETT: No, you
don't have to be twins.

MR. ROGERS: You could get a
friend to help you with that.

MARILYN BARNETT: That's right.

-Kelly was leading first.

And now Megan's leading.

-Uh-huh.

-Well, that's it.

-Very nice.

-Very good.

-Very good.

-Now, do you have something
that we could all do together?

-Let's try the one exercise
we do, the lunge, forward.

We start with our
right foot, Fred.

We step forward.

And then we go down, lower
the knee almost to the ground,

not below the ankle.

And back up.

Good!

-And the other one?

-The other leg.

Whatever we do for the
right side of the body,

we always do to the left side.

-Uh-huh.

-Let's try that again.

Let's help each other.

-Phew, I'm glad
to hold onto you.

-It's always good
to help each other.

Right foot forward, lower.

Good!

And up.

Back in place.

Left foot forward, let's lower.

Lets hold it this time.

-Hold it?

-It helps.

And back up.

Did you feel that in your legs?

-I did.

-Great.

-One more?

-And try again?

And back up.

[LAUGHTER]

-Good!

You look great, Fred.

Megan, Kelly, you
were great also.

They have class to go
so we'd better get back.

-Already?

Well, please come again.

It's great to meet you.

-Nice to meet you too.

MR. ROGERS: Oh, thank you.
MARILYN BARNETT: Bye Fred!

-I'm proud of you.
-Bye

-Bye!

-Bye Marilyn, thanks again.

MEGAN: Bye!

-Special neighbors.

[CLOMP, CLOMP]

-Don't we have
special neighbors?

I'll say.

Come on in.

[CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP]

-You know, not all people
do the same exercises.

Some people can do some, and
other people can do others.

There's a picture
book that I have.

Here it is.

It's called "Friends
in the Park"

and I like to look at
every once in awhile.

I'd like to show it to you.

In fact, you know
it's a good idea

to do something quiet like
reading a book after you've

had some exercise
like we've had.

So let's just read this
"Friends in the Park."

MR. ROGERS: Come
with me to the park

and meet some of my friends.

Here we go for a
ride down the slide.

One, two, three, whee!

We like to play
all sorts of games.

When I'm in my
wheelchair, I like

to bat the ball with my racquet.

Whoosh!

Throw the ball
and make a basket!

See him throwing
the ball in there?

My walker helps me
stand up and get around.

Watch me kick the
ball as far as I can.

Up on my tiptoes
reaching up high.

One more time.

Swings are also lots of fun.

My friends need my help so
I give him in gentle push.

I swing back and forth, going
higher and higher and higher.

Big trucks, little trucks,
racing trikes and motor bikes.

Hold on tight.

Here we go, up and down.

Now we go around and around
on the merry go round.

It's juice time.

Everyone is as
thirsty as can be.

Would you please pour
another cup of juice for me?

Ready or not, here I come.

Look here, hiding eyes.

And here they are.

Ha-ha!

I guess they're
playing hide and seek.

Take my hand, let's join our
friends in a game of follow

the leader.

There they are,
following the leader.

Thanks for making our day
in the park so much fun.

-Thanks for making our today
in the park so much fun.

Well, that's it.

I'll just keep it
right here, in case

we want to read it
again some time.

Every person you
meet has something

that's special about him or her.

You know, it's a good feeling
to know that about others

and about yourself.

I think I'll just
wear these shoes.

-[SINGING]: It's such a good
feeling to know you're alive.

It's such a happy feeling,
you're growing inside.

And when you wake
up ready to say.,

I think I'll make
a snappy new day.

[SNAP, SNAP]

-[SINGING]: It's such a good
feeling, a very good feeling,

the feeling you know, that I'll
be back when the day is new.

And I'll have more
ideas for you.

And you'll have things
you'll want to talk about.

I will too.

-Everybody's different.

Everybody's different inside.

We sure saw that
today, didn't we.

Mm-hmm.

And there's some things about
everybody that's the same.

That's what's wonderful.

That's what helps us to
understand each other.

We've got some things
inside of us that

are the same as somebody else's.

Yeah, we're all human beings.

I like you just the way you are.

I'll be back next time.

Buh-bye!

I'll go clomping down the
street with my wooden shoes.
