05x12 - He's a Crowd

Post by bunniefuu »

Gregory: It started when I was a teenager.

I thought I was just hearing voices of people

I didn't know or even see.

I saw all kinds of doctors,

but none of them could help.

- How did they diagnose you?
- As a schizophrenic.

Or a repressive psychotic.

Finally years ago,

they discovered it was multiple personality disorder.

How many personalities do you have?

Originally, they brought out seventeen.

Through treatment, they've extinguished all but four.

Michael: Mr. Edmonson, I'd like for you to describe

these four personalities to the court.

Okay. Ninety
-five percent of the time, I'm just...

me, Greg Edmonson.

I... play the piano and the violin.

For the past years, I've worked in a music store

tuning string instruments.

- What about the others?
- Then there's Allan Witt.

He's the teacher. Intellectual, extremely well read,

also a little arrogant.

Then there's Sean.

Angry.

Psychotic.

The reason I'm... sitting here now.

Mr. Edmonson, did Sean come out the night of August th, ?

Gregory: I believe he did.

Michael: Could you tell us what happened?

I was with my fiancee, Sherril Eustis,

having dinner at her place.

Then to my shock, after dinner...

she broke off our engagement.

- You didn't see this coming?
- No. I
-
- I...

After all the times we talked

over my problem, I thought she'd excepted it.

Michael: Sherril knew about your different personalities.

Gregory: Oh, yes, and she'd met them all.

She knew about my illness and it wasn't an obstacle.

And then, all of sudden...

she says she can't be married to me.

- How did you respond? Gregory: I was devastated.

I got very upset.

Uh, my voice grew loud and...

The next thing I remember...

was her on the floor...

and her...

her neck was all twisted.

She'd been strangled.

There was a puncture mark on her throat...

and there was blood everywhere.

Michael: She was dead. Gregory: Yes.

Michael: What'd you do then?
- I called the police.

Mr. Edmonson, do you know how Sherril was k*lled?

It had to have been Sean.

I mean, he comes out sometimes when I'm upset and...

Nobody else could've done something like that.

I have nothing further.

Just before Sherril Eustis was k*lled,

she broke off her engagement with you, right?

- Yes. Zoey: And just so we're clear.

These are the hands right here that snapped her neck.

That's the thumb right there on your left hand

that punctured her throat.

And you're in here today, asking this jury to set you free.

But I couldn't have done anything like that.

I loved Sherril Eustis, Ms. Clemmons,

she was everything to me.

And the very last thing she did in life

was break your heart.

Douglas: Alright, people, good turn out.

Let's begin. Roxanne?

First up, people versus Edmonson.

Hold on a second. Why is Roxanne here?

She's here as my assistant.

To safeguard against administrative oversights

during my tenure as senior partner.

I've vested her with control over the staff meeting agenda.

- Please proceed, Ms. Melman.
- People versus Edmonson.

Prosecution's rested. We began our defense this morning.

Insanity defense?

Michael: We put up our expert on this afternoon.

- How's Zoey doing?
- Zoey?

She's the D.A. She's also my ex
-wife.

- That woman is your ex
-wife?
- Yeah. She thinks it's funny.

You representing a guy with multiple personalities,

when you yourself don't even got one.

[laughter]

Kuzak, she was makin' a joke.
- Roxanne: Moving on.

Becker versus Becker. Were are we, Arnold?

Arnold: Why don't you tell me, Roxanne?

You're the one giving testimony against me.

I'm not testifying against you.

I've been subpoenaed for a deposition
-
-

What are you going to say, Roxanne?

- The truth.
- You're dead, Arnie.

Alright. What's the plan here?

Roxanne gets deposed today, Corrinne gets deposed tomorrow.

Tommy's gonna cover it, since

I don't think it's wise to do it myself.

Why are we even having depositions?

'Cause Corrinne got a lawyer and sued me for emotional distress.

It's a cheap ploy to skirt around no
-fault,

I've tried it myself once or twice.

It won't work. Even if it does, it'll get thrown out on appeal.

With the firm footing the bill for this appeal?

Moving on. Abby, I see you've lost

California r*fle Association as a client.

Yeah. I'm sorry. But don't worry, though.

Abby: C.J. picked them up.
- I beg your pardon?

They dropped me and went to C.J. It's her client.

I want to see both of you in my office.

- Roxanne, slot them, ASAP. Roxanne: :, tomorrow morning.

Last up, Leland, you have a meeting

with Tom Baker of Feldcore?

Yes, I do. He's upset about something, I don't know what.

Keep us apprised. Michael Kuzak and Ann Kelsey,

you're both derelict in time sheets.

Jonathan, if you don't code your long distance calls,

we can't bill them.

That's it, people. We're adjourned.

Excellent, Roxanne. Excellent.

[indistinct chatter]

- A little coffee, Tom?
- Yeah. Sure.

[door shuts]

I think I'm losing Feldcore, Leland.

- What? Mm.
- Alan Wendle, senior V.P.

Has been leading a backstabbing campaign to push me out as CEO.

My moles tell me he could succeed.

- Now that can't be right.
- Ha
-ha. It's right.

The bastard set me up.

He turned over the analyst's reports to the directors

without showing them to me.

So I walk into a board meeting like an idiot,

totally unprepared.

And they...

just chewed me up.

- He did this on purpose? Tom: Oh, yeah.

Then I find out last night, that he asked to

see the board privately...

where he tells them that I have lost control.

Now they've scheduled another meeting for next week.

But, it doesn't look good.

Now let me make a few phone calls,

see what I can find out.

I don't mean to drag you in, Leland,

this is really an in
-house battle.

But if Alan Wendle becomes CEO,

he's gonna give the legal work to another firm.

As I said, let me make a few phone calls.

Man : How long have you been in Mr. Becker's direct employ?

Twelve years.

And to your knowledge, over that time,

how many affairs has Mr. Becker had with his divorced clients.

What kind of a question is that?

Goes to show a pattern. The defendant seduced Ms. Hammond

while he was representing her,

while she was extremely susceptible to undue influence.

Get on with it.

How many affairs with clients over those twelve years?

- I don't know.
- More than twenty five?

Yes.

More than fifty? Answer the question, ma'am.

- I'm thinking.
- Oh, please, fifty?

Man : Interrupt again, I'll suspend

and move for costs and sanctions.

You thr*aten me again and I'll pick at you like a crusty scab,

you cheap night school hack.

Alright, Arnie. Just ask your questions.

Man : I'm trying. Now, Ms. Melman,

turning your attention to the night of January th,

Mr. Becker's th birthday,

could you tell us what transpired?

Corrinne and I were

organizing a surprise party out in reception.

I
-
- I went in to get Arnie to lead him out to the party

and I discovered him with Christina Sheppard,

one of his clients.

Could you tell us what they were doing when you discovered them?

They appeared to be having intercourse.

Man : Okay. And during Mr. Becker's engagement

or marriage to Corrinne Hammond,

were you aware of any other romantic or sexual affairs?

Not during the marriage, no.

- During the engagement?
- Objection!

Man : Answer the question, Ms. Melman.

During Mr. Becker's engagement to Ms. Hammond,

do you have knowledge of sexual relationships

with any other women?

One.

Man : Approximately when did this happen?

Approximately a week before the wedding.

Man : Do you know the name of this woman?

Roxanne: Yes.
- Oh God.

Man : Who was it?
- Her name is Gwen Taylor.

She's a secretary here.

Well, well...

now we seem to be getting somewhere.

Dr. Carlson: I first examined Greg in ,

when he was referred to me by another psychiatrist.

It took us two years to finally diagnose the MPD.

Doctor, how can this sort of thing happen to a person?

Dr. Carlson: In almost every case,

it's a result of early childhood trauma.

Basically, the child forms a new person

as a defense.

With Greg, he was sexually abused as an young child

by his own father, and that's likely the cause.

Now this can also cause physiological changes

as well as psychological, can it not?

In some cases. Yes.

- It happens with Greg.
- In what way?

Well, Greg, who's the core personality,

is a normal, physically healthy person.

Allen Witt, who you heard Greg talk about,

well, when he emerges, the blood pressure goes up.

Allen is left
-handed, Greg is right.

Allen has
- vision, he needs glasses. Greg doesn't.

Sean, who I believe committed the crime,

has a severe asthmatic condition.

Greg has no respiratory dysfunction whatsoever.

And all of this happens with the same body?

Depending on which personality is controlling, yes.

Forgive me, doctor, but...

this does a little hard to believe.

Well, there have been more extreme cases, Mr. Kuzak.

I had a woman who had a lump in her breast with one personality,

while being totally tumor free as somebody else.

Medically, we can't explain it.

But we certainly can document it.

Okay. Getting back to my client...

you said you think it was the Sean

personality who committed the crime.

I do. Of the four remaining personalities

that occupy that one body,

Sean is the only one I consider to be truly violent.

And you think he came out

the night Sherril Eustis was m*rder*d?

I do.

Sherril Eustis broke off the engagement with Greg.

That certainly was traumatic enough for Sean to emerge.

Second, Greg has no memory of it.

What does that mean?

If Sean does something,

Greg remembers nothing.

It's like a blackout period for him.

Allen has a limited fusion with Sean, and Allen

does have a memory of Sean being with Sherril Eustis

the night of the m*rder.

Oh, it is pretty confusing.

Dr. Carlson: Now, the bottom line is that Sean

probably did come out that night.

And I want to say something else.

I have treated Greg Edmonson

for over years,

and I know the man.

He is totally incapable...

of the kind of v*olence that we're talking about.

Michael: Thank you, doctor.

Oh, one last thing.

Michael: Can Greg be cured?
- Yes.

Seventy percent of all multiple personality

disorder cases are cured.

Greg's in treatment, he making excellent progress.

We started with different personalities,

we are now down to four.

- Eventually, he will be cured.
- Thank you.

I have nothing further.

Doctor, can you tell us a little more about Sean?

He's a very angry man...

with psychotic tendencies.

This persona was probably developed

to psychologically fend off the abusive father.

When Greg is threatened, or traumatized, out he comes.

Is Sean insane?

Well, you have to consider the whole man.

Is Sean insane?

Well, by a strict medical definition,

maybe not, but he most certain
-
-

So whoever k*lled Sherril Eustis,

Sean or Greg, there's no insanity defense, is there?

Objection, that's calls for a legal conclusion.

I'll rephrase. True or false...

Sean would've understood the nature

and quality of his act, right?

And both Sean and Greg

are able to distinguish right from wrong.

True or false, doctor?

- True.
- Thank you.

I have nothing further.

According to Don Orey,

Wendle has four of the seven board votes locked up.

I can't believe that. Tom Baker is Feldcore.

Well, not anymore.

Wendle's smear campaign,

eh, really poisoned him pretty good.

So go after Wendle.

Anybody that dirty has to have left some tracks.

I don't know.

Let me see the files, Leland.

There must be something to impeach him with.

Well, I don't want to stoop to that level.

Leland, Feldcore is your biggest client.

If Baker goes, you lose that client,

you'll be forced to make layoffs, maybe.

Now, you better damn well fight here.

I'm not stupid. I know what's going on with California r*fle.

By making it C.J.'s client,

she gets percent of the business.

No doubt, she's promised a kick back to you.

- I'm shocked.
- You can't do this.

Douglas, I just decided I didn't want the client anymore.

C.J. picked them up, what's wrong with that?

What's wrong is that since you'll be doing all the work

for this client, it doesn't make sense,

it's just a sham.

Why? As it is, all I do is

sl*ve away and make other people rich.

I would just rather profit C.J. than the partners, that's all.

Okay.

Okay.

I'm aware we have a situation here,

and this is what I'm prepared to do.

I'm cutting your salary by percent.

In exchange for which, I'm offering you percent

of the business that you bring in.

Can you do that?

Of course I can, I'm senior partner.

It's similar to the deal Leland made

with you when he was in charge.

Except it's not as good.

No, but that's as good as it gets.

I lower overhead, as well as give incentive to an associate

who's not on a partnership tract.

You get a big upside now, Abby.

As long as you don't have the right to

refuse the clients I want to bring in.

Agreed. As long as you still bill hours.

- Agreed.
- Well, that's all, then.

Dismissed.

Ma'am, your complaint states that my client's acts

have left you emotionally devastated.

Would that be correct?

Yes.

Now, whose opinion is that?

I guess it would be my opinion.

You weren't caused to seek therapy

or any psychiatric counseling for this emotional devastation?

No, I wasn't.

So there would be no medical documentation whatsoever

of your mental condition at this time?

- No, there wouldn't. Tommy: Very good.

Now you were married to your first husband for how long?

Seven years.

Did the separation from this man

cause you any emotional distress?

- I'm sure it did.
- But you recovered fully.

- I don't know. Tommy: Well, then.

Might some of the emotional damage you

suffer today, be the product of that event?

No. I recovered from that event.

Okay. So we're talking about a kind of pain that you do,

in fact, recover from.

The trauma is much worse this time.

Tommy: How could the break up of a nine month marriage

be more traumatic than that of a seven year marriage?

Because having been once divorced,

I was much more emotionally unstable this time.

Tommy: You have full custody of your daughter, Chloe,

do you not, Ms. Hammond?

Yes.

Tommy: Subject to modification at any time.

Do you consider yourself to be an emotionally unstable person?

Oh, God!

Is this what you're trying to do?

You think you're gonna take my daughter away?

Tommy: We're just concerned about your emotional fitness.

There's nothing wrong with my fitness, Mr. Mullaney, I just
-
-

You just want to get even with my client.

Come on, let's all calm down.

Tommy: Come on, Ms. Hammond, that's what

this is about, isn't it?

You don't have that much mental anguish,

you haven't sought any psychiatric treatment.

Given the settlement we offered, this couldn't be about money.

- Why are we here?
- Why are we here?

He sleeps with a childhood friend of mine

the week of our wedding, then he sleeps with a client

when throwing a party for him, "Why are we here?"

Tommy: So you want him to hurt.
- Yes, I want him to hurt!

I want him to hurt so much so that maybe...

when he thinks of this marriage it will make him cry because...

that's what I've been going through.

That's how it's felt for me, Mr. Mullaney.

That's why the hell we're here!

Okay.

I think I got it.

Could you please state your name for the record?

My name is Allen Kendal Witt.

Michael: My name is Michael Kuzak.

I represent Greg Edmonson. Mr. Witt, do you know

how you came to be here today?

Well, since Dr. Carlson suddenly appeared,

standing in front of my face, I can only assume

that I was just brought out through hypnosis.

That's right. Do you also know why you're here?

I'd hazard a guess, that

we're in the middle of Gregory's m*rder trial.

Michael: You know about the trial?

- Oh, yes. Michael: Okay. Mr. Witt.

Were you present in Sherril Eustis's apartment

the night she was m*rder*d?

I certainly was not.

Well, according to Dr. Carlson,

you have a memory of being there.

Michael: Did you
-
-
- You're confused, counselor.

Gregory: What I told Dr. Carlson was

that I have a memory of Sean being there, not me.

Because of my limited fusion with Sean,

I have memories of his experiences sometimes.

I, myself, was never

in Sherril Eustis's apartment that night.

Michael: But Sean was.

I'm not clear on exactly what transpired,

but I do remember Sean

standing over Sherril's body, with blood on him.

I remember that very clearly.

Michael: Thank you, Mr. Witt.

I have nothing further.

Mr. Witt, you know all about

this multiple personality disorder.

- Right?
- Yes, I do.

And you know that you and Greg Edmonson

occupy the same body.

It's been brought to my attention.

Zoey: So what happens to Greg

if he receives a criminal conviction here, Mr. Witt?

He either goes to jail...

or the Congress, these days I'm not sure which.

Zoey: Forget being cute, Mr. Witt

and answer the question.

What happens to Greg Edmonson

if he's convicted of m*rder?

He goes to prison.

And you got with him, don't you?

Obviously.

So by giving testimony here to save Greg,

you help save yourself, isn't that right, Mr. Witt?

As a matter of fact, you couldn't be more wrong.

Gregory is currently undergoing

psychiatric treatment, the purpose of which

is to extinguish his three other personalities,

one of whom happens to be me.

His cure is my demise.

If he goes to prison, on the other hand,

his treatment is suspended, in which case I live on.

Oh, I don't think you want to go to prison.

- Men get r*ped in prison.
- Objection!

Zoey: You could be Sean, or Greg or Allen.

- They'd r*pe anyone of them. Judge Mary: Counsel...

In fact, they'd really go after Allen.

And I think you know that, don't you?

Judge Mary: Mr. Edmonson.

Mr. Witt?

Your Honor, I don't think that's Greg or Allen.

What is your name, sir?

You're in a court of law, you have to tell us the truth,

please state your name.

Sean.

[indistinctly mumbling]

Okay, Sean. I'd like to ask you a few questions.

- Objection, Your Honor!
- Overruled.

We've got Sean here now, let's just do this.

Your Honor, this witness isn't even on her list!

Step back, Mr. Kuzak.

Sean. Were you with Sherril Eustis

the night she got k*lled?

Were you with Sherril Eustis? You are under oath.

She was dead by the time I got there. Greg did it!

- Objection! Gregory: He strangled her.

He got mad at her and he strangled her.

Unfair surprise, judge. Mistrial!

- I didn't do nothin'.
- You k*lled Sherril Eustis.

- You shut up!
- Hey!

I don't even know this man, judge. He's not my client!

- Damn right I'm not!
- Alright, counsel in chambers.

Doctor Carlson, too. Bailiff!

[sighs]

[scoffs]

Your Honor, Sean is a completely different person.

He's not on her witness list.

I need time to prepare my cross.

I'd be happy to give you a continuance, Mr. Kuzak,

if there were some guarantee

we could get the Sean character back.

I can bring him out through hypnosis.

I thought you couldn't bring the Sean persona out that way.

Not normally, no. But the stress of the trial

has obviously made him accessible.

I think I can get him back.

Alright. Tomorrow, o'clock, we'll meet here.

You hypnotize him, you ask him

your questions, and that'll be it.

Let's go back in there and send the jury home.

This is unbelievable.

[instrumental music]

- Thank you.
- Thank you.

Ms. Shays, I don't know you. Why should I bother to trust you?

Maybe you'll have to take a chance, Mr. Wendle.

Anyone ambitious enough to go after Feldcore Industries

certainly must be willing to take chances.

Mm
-hm.

What exactly is in this for you?

Leland McKenzie is a close personal friend of mine.

Losing Feldcore would seriously thr*aten his firm,

and maybe even his own job.

So?

I help you over throw Tom Baker,

you promise to leave Feldcore's business

at McKenzie Brackman after you become CEO.

First of all, Ms. Shays, I'm not sure I need your help.

Secondly...

You have a one vote lead with the board, right now,

it's tenuous at best.

I have information which in your hands would make

Baker resign without a fight.

I'm listening.

Through my relationship with Leland,

I got access to files this morning, business and personal.

I found evidence of a certain vice crime

committed by Mr. Baker, as well as

evidence of a possible cover up.

- What kind of cover up? Rosalind: I'm not sure.

A memo makes clear that he was arrested

on three counts of solicitation, one with a minor.

But there's no public record of it at the D.A.'s office.

There's a second memo talking about a payoff

to a district attorney identified only with initials.

My thinking is, there had to be a bribe.

Now, I'll give you these memos,

but you're gonna have to pretend you got them elsewhere.

Waiter: Excuse me.
- Thank you.

You think this will make Tom Baker roll over?

You call a meeting. I'll get myself invited to it by Leland,

ostensibly to lend him support.

You drop the b*mb, and then I, in my infinite wisdom

will objectively advise that he can't risk this becoming public.

You'll be CEO by the end of the week.

In return, you guarantee Feldcore's business

to McKenzie Brackman.

It can't be as simple as that.

Oh, yes, it can. And if, for some reason,

they turn down your business,

you guarantee it to my firm, a minimum of two years.

You're every bit as good as they say.

I beg your pardon?

You know damn well if I unseat Tom Baker

using these kinds of tactics,

Leland McKenzie would never touch my business,

he'd sooner die than get in bed with me.

This isn't about helping him.

This is about helping you.

Very deft.

There's an offer on the table, Mr. Wendle.

Accept it or reject it.

Okay.

You got a deal, Ms. Shays.

Please call me Ros.

[both laugh]

You know something? This is actually

better than being partner because I could build

my own little practice and still have time for Eric.

This partnership stuff's pretty overrated if you ask me.

All that bonding with corporate boneheads.

Can you imagine going on a retreat with those guys?

Sitting in a mud bath between Leland and Douglas?

[both laugh]

Hey, listen, thanks for dinner, Abby.

Oh, hey, thank you, for helping me make my stand.

I never couldn't have pulled it off without your help.

Well, you have a big fan in me, Abby.

You have a big fan in me, too, C.J.

Aww!

Um...

I'm
-
- I'm sorry. I have to
-
- I have to go home.

- I've
-
- I've gotta go.
- Okay.

[car door closes]

[engine sputtering]

[engine revving]

[solemn music]

Why in hell is Rosalind coming to the meeting tomorrow?

Because Leland thinks she can be of help.

- And I happen to
-
-
- This is crazy.

Let's face it, Ann, Rosalind's pretty damn good

at controlling a room.

If she can help us save Feldcore,

then we can all keep our egos in the drawer for a day.

- Well, I'm talking to Leland.
- Great. Be my guest.

[telephone ringing]

[telephone ringing]

- Hi.
- Hi.

Um, listen, I, uh...

Um...

I
-
- I wanted to...

About last night...

I was
-
- I was feeling very, uh, indebted to you,

and probably very close as well and
-
- and...

that's why, when you kissed me, I
-
- I didn't push you away.

You kissed me back.

Yeah, well, I'd
-
- I'd sort of like to forget the whole thing.

It's no big deal, Abby.

Look, it happened once,

it doesn't have to affect our friendship.

Good. Good. Because,

I'm
-
- I'm not physically attract...

- [sighs] I like men.
- So do I.

Oh. Then...

you mean, you're...

Flexible.

- I see. C.J.: [chuckles] Relax, Abby.

It was just...

Well, the way the moonlight hit your face the other night.

Look, in daytime, you're not even that cute.

[laughing]

- Why did you kiss me back?
- I don't know. I...

I don't know, I guess I was probably a little... curious.

I
-
- I don't know. Why did you kiss me?

You
-
- you don't have to answer that.

[chuckles]

Look, I didn't plan it.

And I hope you don't think my helping you with Douglas

was part of some overall design to seduce you.

[laughing] Oh, no.

No, don't be silly.

It is going to affect our friendship, isn't it?

No. No, I don't think so.

Dr. Carlson: Step away, Greg.

Let Sean come out.

Now, let him out.

Let Sean come out now.

[sighs] I'm
-
- I'm sorry.

- Greg?
- Yes.

I don't know what else to do, Your Honor.

We've been at this for over an hour, I can't access him.

Your Honor, under the circumstances,

- I have to move for a mistrial.
- What?

The Sean character made testimony against my client.

We're being denied our constitutional right to

confront that witness on cross examination, therefore
-
-

Oh, no you don't. You had opportunity to cross yesterday.

When you asked for the continuance, you knew the risk.

Bad judgment on my part then.

New trial on the grounds of inadequate counsel.

Wrong. The case goes on, Mr. Kuzak.

Greg, you have to let Sean out.

- Greg, you have to.
- I'm trying, Michael. I am.

I just can't.

Alright, then I'm not representing you anymore.

What?

You m*rder*d her, you son of a bitch!

And you lied to me to help you get off! Didn't you?

- That's enough, Mr. Kuzak!
- Come on, Greg's getting hurt.

- Sean, come out now!
- Let him go!

How dare you!

What gives you the right...

to be so abusive with another human being?

My word. It's shameful.

- Who are you?
- I'm Camille Green.

And you have not right, young man.

- Doctor?
- I've never met Camille.

[Michael sighs]

Excuse me, ma'am.

I would like to talk to Sean, if you don't mind.

Well, you're not going to. None of you are.

And you're to stay away from Greggy, as well,

do you understand me?

My word!

What is your relationship to Sean and Greg?

I'm their aunt. I raised them.

And they're good boys, both of them!

And they didn't k*ll anybody, miss.

- How can you be so sure?
- Because I k*lled her.

Camille: I strangled Sherril Eustis.

I'm not as brittle as I look.

I'm quite strong.

She caused my Greggy so much pain.

And you of all persons, Dr. Carlson, should understand,

I couldn't let her continue to do this.

I'm always the one that has to save my boys.

I saved Greggy from his father.

And I saved him from the hurt of loving that woman forever.

What do you mean, you saved Greg from his father?

They all thought it was a su1c1de, didn't they?

Well, I wrote the note.

And I fired the g*n.

He was...

touching Greggy.

Making him do...

unspeakable things.

Well, I had to...

to pro...

to protect him.

Talk to me, doctor.

I don't know what to tell you, judge.

- What happened? Dr. Carlson: Greg?

- Are you Greg?
- Yes.

Something happened.

Yeah.

Something happened.

Man : Thank you.

You've been awfully quiet, Leland.

Rosalind: Hardly said two words.
- Sorry.

I guess I'm a little preoccupied with tomorrow's meeting.

If Tom Baker loses Feldcore, we lose Feldcore,

it's hard not to think about that.

It's going to be fine.

To be totally honest, Rosalind,

I'm also a little conflicted about you

being involved in this meeting.

- Why?
- Because it makes me look bad.

As if I need you.

I don't want Tom Baker seeing that.

I don't need Ann Kelsey seeing that.

Okay. As for me,

you said yourself you weren't feeling confident.

Persuasion is my strength, Leland, you know that.

If I can help save Tom Baker's job,

anything else should be secondary.

But if you don't want me there,

it certainly makes no difference to me.

No. No, it's best you be there.

We'll take all the help we can get.

Whatever you want.

You decide.

[indistinctly chattering]

Ah, could I...

could I talk to Corrinne alone for a minute?

I don't think that would be wise.

Corrinne, please? Sooner or later, you and I have to talk.

Okay.

Could you, uh, could you excuse us?

I miss you.

I miss you, too, Arnie.

Look, I think I've been in the divorce business long enough

to know what's going on here.

Are you going to tell me what I'm feeling now, Arnie?

No. I guess I'm wondering since I've admitted that I screwed up,

and, since I've pleaded with you to take me back,

I'm just wondering why you want to be so punishing.

Tell me about punishing.

Corrinne, I
-
- I don't
-
- I don't, look, I don't want a fight here.

Drop the guard for a second and just talk to me.

Please, if we're gonna be leaving each other's lives,

just talk to me once before you go.

Do you know how much you hurt me?

Yes.

We can give it another try though.

No, Arnie, I tried to convince myself of that.

- But I can't.
- Please.

Why can't we just give it another chance?

No, because...

as much as I love you,

I don't respect you.

I don't trust you.

And that's never going to change.

Um, maybe we could, we could just separate for a while.

No, Arnie, I
-
- I have to be done.

I can't... I can't live in the middle of this.

I can't survive where I am now.

Let's just do it.

What'd you tell Chloe?

I told her that you wouldn't be living with us anymore.

But she wants to see you.

She'd like to say good
-bye.

We really are over, aren't we?

Yeah, we're over.

[door opens]

[door closes]

I've decided not to let this case go to the jury.

I'm finding you not guilty by reason of insanity.

I'm ordering that he be placed in a State institution

for the criminally insane.

Well, that's prison.

Judge Mary: Mr. Edmonson, you committed two vicious murders.

Doctor, the hospital will make a recommendation,

but what do you consider his prognosis to be?

We're making progress.

I think, eventually, we'll get there.

Judge Mary: How long?

Dr. Carlson: Well, he's percent there now, more or less.

The emergence of Camille is a setback,

this is a person none of the others fused with.

But I still think we're going to make it.

Alright, well, as far as I can tell,

there're only two personalities that pose a thr*at to society.

That Sean and Camille. I'm going to sentence the defendant

to the State institution, provision will be made

so you can continue treatment.

It may not be necessary to wait for a total cure.

If Sean and Camille are extinguished,

I'll consider a petition to put him on an outpatient status.

You're not putting my boys in one of those awful places.

I won't let you.

- Mr. Edmonson. Camille: Oh, no, no, no.

You're not going to put them in a jail,

they'll be treated like rats in there.

I won't hear of it. Oh, no, no.

Your Honor, I'd like to talk to Camille...

in private.

Hey, what's the matter, you don't return your phone calls?

I was going to buzz you, it's just, it's been a wild day.

Ah
-huh.

I was sent two tickets to the premiere of Runt Ranger,

you have any interest?

- Tonight?
- Ah
-huh.

I couldn't get a sitter this fast. Thanks though.

Okay.

It's supposed to be terrible, you know.

What is?

Runt Ranger.

How 'bout renting a decent movie instead?

Have dinner at my house. I have surround sound.

[laughs] Okay.

- You're on.
- o'clock. Don't be late.

Oh, Abby, one small favor.

Wear that tight little black skirt

you had on at the Christmas party.

Kidding, Abby.

[laughing]

You're easy.

You're a real jerk, Lamb.

[Cara laughs]

Man : Don't worry about me.

What's going on?

Camille has totally taken over.

I don't understand. How
-

Judging from her memories,

she's been there over years.

She raised both Sean and Greg since they were babies.

She's just been locked up inside.

Well, why's she coming out now?

The ultimate protector.

By becoming the dominant,

maybe even sole personality...

Greg and Sean will never have to experience prison life.

But as long as he stays Camille he'll stay locked up.

That's exactly what she has to know.

Go in there as a lawyer, a judge, tell her,

she has to let Greg out.

Camille.

I'm Michael Kuzak.

Oh, I know who you are, young man.

- Could I please talk to Greg?
- Oh, I'm sorry, no.

I realize how much you want to help him but...

I know what's best.

Camille, you have to go away.

If you don't, Greg and Sean

will spend the rest of their lives in jail.

Do you understand that?

Oh, no, no.

They're not going to jail.

You see, I've put them to sleep.

- Oh God.
- Camille, please.

You've got to let them out.

It's is best this way.

I've spared them all the suffering.

They were such wonderful children.

I wish you'd know them when they were little.

I used to sing "Puff, The Magic Dragon" to them every night.

- Oh, how they loved that song.
- Camille.

You have to let me speak with Greg.

Well, nice little team assembled.

Alright, let's not waste everybody's time.

You said you had a proposal.

Yes, and it's very simple. We avoid a nasty and divisive

fight in front of the board next week,

by you voluntarily stepping down today.

Now why would I do that?

To avoid a public and private humiliation

caused by the revelation of your arrest

three years ago for soliciting prostitutes.

We have evidence of your bribing assistant district

attorney to drop the charges.

I have connections with certain people in the D.A.'s office.

Here's a copy of the secret memo your lawyers sent to

ADA L.T. on the matter.

- Let me see that.
-This is blackmail. And I'm
-
-

This is me thinking of the good of the company.

Something this serious has to be brought

to the board's attention.

Unless, of course, you step down.

Assuming you can prove this,

what kind of a deal are you prepared to make.

I'm not going to make any deal.

You might have to, Tom.

My God, if this is true.

Leland: That's very good, Rosalind.

The other night when you asked to look in the file,

I didn't quite trust you.

God knows I wanted to.

- But I didn't.
- What are you talking about?

I'm talking about the fact that Tom Baker

was never arrested for solicitation.

I wrote those memos myself the other day

and planted them in the file to see what you'd do with them.

You lying conniving bitch.

Will somebody please explain to me what's going on?

Stop talking, Mr. Wendle.

Was it to see me fall?

Was it all a charade just to...

Look, Tom, they've got nothing on you.

I see no reason to entertain this meeting any longer.

If you'll excuse me.

Leland. This was to help you.

The deal was he was gonna leave Feldcore's business here,

all of this was for you.

Even if that's true, you would have destroyed him

in the process.

I'm sorry.

- You got the memo from her?
- Come on, let's go.

Hold on a second. The deal just changed.

You're resigning from the company.

Or else, we go public with your little blackmailing scheme

and you get thrown out without any settlement at all.

But you tried to use them for extortion.

You promised us Feldcore's business

in exchange for that information.

You think the board of directors are gonna stand for that?

You make me sick.

As for you, I admire your consistency.

Let me put together some severance numbers and then

Be quiet, Allen. Just keep your mouth shut.

I'll get back to you with a proposal.

Well?

Did you see his performance?

your mom...

your mom and I feel it's best

for me not to live here anymore and, ah
