[eerie music]

NARRATOR: Collinwood in parallel time,

a house of tragedy.

For though Roger and Angelique are dead,

what they have started continues,

and Quentin is once more jailed

for the m*rder of Bruno Hess.

The one person who can prove

that Angelique m*rder*d Bruno is Julia Hoffman,

but she is missing, and though the police and Barnabas

have searched the great house, they cannot find her.

[ominous music]

Somewhere.

She must be here somewhere.

[door clicks]

[door clanks]

[ominous music]

We haven't found her.

MAGGIE: Well, Quentin doesn't believe

that she's alive anymore.

[dramatic music]

Barnabas, he's given up.

He says he doesn't want to fight anymore, that it's useless,

since Inspector Hamilton saw him standing over Bruno's body.

Barnabas, he's not thinking of himself anymore.

All he would talk about is what I should do, and,

it's almost as if he's already been sentenced.

He will fight again.

We will find Julia, I'm sure.

No.

No, Barnabas.

Now I've got to do what Quentin wants me to do.

If she's hidden somewhere.

He wants me to leave Collinwood.

What?

MAGGIE: Forever.

We've got to leave tonight.

Maggie.

We must, Barnabas.

He doesn't want us here anymore.

He says he'll never walk through that door again

and he can't bear to think of me here.

But if Julia is hidden here.

She isn't.

Barnabas, you and the police have proven

to everyone but yourself that she's not here.

We've got to go, Barnabas.

We must!

[ominous music]

JULIA VOICEOVER: Why don't they find me?

Why don't they?

[dramatic music]

[waves crashing] [eerie music]

Seems so final.

To close the house, to leave here now.

MAGGIE: We have no choice.

Well, wait until tomorrow.

Let me talk to Quentin.

Barnabas, it'll do no good.

This house has come to represent

all the tragedy he's seen in his life.

Now when, when I think of how eagerly I looked forward

to coming here with Quentin...

Maggie.

If we leave here now and Julia's hidden, she will die.

She's not here.

If there was any evidence whatsoever

that she was here, I wouldn't go, you know that,

but there is none, Barnabas.

None!

How ineffectual I feel,

not able to do anything for Julia or Quentin,

even to persuade Roxanne to go to the police.

MAGGIE: Have you seen her?

No, she was here, but she got away.

I couldn't find her.

She's out there somewhere,

and we're here unable to clear Quentin.

[ominous music]

[wind blowing] [suspenseful music]

[gasps]

Taking a stroll?

Stay away from me!

I thought we were friends, my dear.

He didn't k*ll Claude.

Barnabas didn't.

What a persuasive man he is.

I told you to stay away from him.

You don't give me orders.

Someone must.

You're a fool.

I warned you the police were hunting for you,

and you ran straight to him.

I suppose he told you I k*lled Claude North.

And you believed him even though the idea is preposterous.

Claude and I were the closest of friends, as you know.

Don't make me remember any of that.

No, obviously you'd prefer to think about Barnabas.

Well, what do you think of him?

With those strange, psychic gifts of yours,

I'm sure if you told the truth,

what you'd say about Mr. Collins would be most interesting.

[Roxanne gasps]

He's a man with a secret, you know.

- Do you know it? - Let go!

Do you know his secret?

Secret?

What could his secret be?

I will find it out, you can be sure of that.

He will learn that in any battle

I have an incredible will to win.

Even if it involves k*lling?

There's no proof that I ever k*lled anyone.

There was proof that I had conquered death.

Yes, and you used me to do it.

You should be proud.

Proud?

You robbed me of my life.

I know why you follow me, why you keep bothering me,

and I'm never going to let you use me again.

Never!

Roxanne!

[suspenseful music]

I can't begin to understand

everything that's happened around here.

Quentin tried to explain it to me, and it made no sense.

Why isn't Roxanne able to help us?

Perhaps there'll be no need to.

If the police can establish

that the body they found is Angelique,

then whatever Roxanne says could be superfluous.

Then she can help us know more?

No.

Only Julia?

Yes.

Then I'm going to pack.

Maggie.

At least I can do what he wants me to do.

[suspenseful music]

BARNABAS VOICEOVER: Julia.

Julia.

[suspenseful music]

You've come back.

I am afraid when I am not with you.

[suspenseful music]

[suspenseful music]

Why are you staring at me?

I don't know.

You must, you look so sad.

No.

I thought you would be happy to see me.

But I am.

You're not acting it.

You're so cold.

Perhaps because I must be.

Oh, Barnabas, why?

When you act this way, I'm afraid, even when I'm with you.

That Stokes.

He says you have a secret.

[dramatic music]

Do you?

What is it?

I ask too many questions.

Claude used to tell me that.

I'm sorry.

I don't care what it is.

You wouldn't?

ROXANNE: No.

Oh, Roxanne, I love you so.

Oh, Barnabas.

No, don't.

But I want you to hold me.

No.

Is it wrong to love?

For me.

ROXANNE: Oh, Barnabas,

I can't believe that.

I know how kind and gentle you are.

I remember how you took care of me,

how you touched me, and I opened my eyes.

I know it without you saying a word, Barnabas.

I looked into your face and I knew.

That's when I began to love you.

Yes, love.

There, I've said it.

Why don't you look at me?

Why?

You must go away.

No.

You must, we can never be together.

Why? Tell me!

You wouldn't love me if I did.

Oh, Barnabas, you trust me so little.

You treat me as a child, and I am not.

How can you say you love me so much and then send me away?

Because that is the way it must be.

ROXANNE: That is what you say, but what I say--

I don't care what you say or feel.

Oh, my dearest, I, if you only knew how much

I could give into this, but you must go.

ROXANNE: Barnabas.

Go!

Barnabas.

Give me a chance.

I cannot!

We can never see each other again!

Now go!

[Roxanne gasps]

[door clicks]

[door slams]

[somber music]

[suspenseful music]

[wind blowing]

Barnabas.

Oh, Barnabas.

Barnabas.

[somber music]

[moves into suspenseful music]

BARNABAS VOICEOVER: I did what was right.

There's no way, no way for me with her.

The love I feel, I shall deal with it without her.

I cannot make her what I am.

I cannot give into myself.

[suspenseful music]

Barnabas.

Oh, oh, Barnabas.

Whatever is wrong, let me share it.

Don't say no.

Don't ever say no.

Please never say no to me.

BARNABAS: I cannot.

Oh, Barnabas, but what is love but sharing?

Oh, you don't know.

Barnabas, I am willing to.

Barnabas, look at me.

Love me, Barnabas.

Love me.

[suspenseful music]

Whatever the cost?

Whatever.

Yes.

Yes, Barnabas, I mean it.

[suspenseful music]

[moves into dramatic music]

[clock chiming]

Barnabas?

[door clicks]

[door clanks]

Roxanne is here.

Will she go to the police?

She will if it need be.

Now, Maggie, I want you to go upstairs

and get an article of clothing from Hoffman's room.

- Why? - Do as I say!

[suspenseful music]

Do you know how the world is, Barnabas?

It's so very light when I'm with you.

But when you go away, it's so dark.

So very dark.

Come to me.

Oh, for so many years I've wanted to hold someone

as I'm holding you now.

ROXANNE: Oh, Barnabas, I am yours.

That is all I know.

Are you all right?

ROXANNE: Yes.

Well, there's something I want you to do for us.

You have certain powers.

Psychic powers.

Now, Stokes told Julia that you did.

That is why-

And that is why Claude North was interested in me.

BARNABAS: Will you use them for us?

What's the matter, my dearest?

I don't like to use them.

BARNABAS: Do they frighten you?

Oh, you know even that.

We have a woman named, named Julia Hoffman.

Now, we don't know whether she's dead or alive.

If she's alive, we want you to tell us where.

Will you do that?

Oh, Barnabas.

You mustn't be afraid.

All right.

I will try, but you must not expect too much.

I have faith in you.

Come in, my dear.

This is Roxanne Drew.

This is Maggie Collins.

How do you do, Mrs. Collins?

Hello.

She is going to help us, Maggie.

She's going to make every effort to find Julia.

If I can, Barnabas.

I will abide by whatever Roxanne says.

Are you sure this is Hoffman's?

MAGGIE: I'm positive.

Are you ready, my dear?

[suspenseful music]

What do you see?

A tall woman.

- Yes. - Vivid.

Her face is very white.

Yes, yes.

ROXANNE: I can barely see her.

She won't come in clearly to me.

Where is she?

Where is she?

I don't know.

BARNABAS: But you must try, Roxanne.

She is lying down.

BARNABAS: Where?

She is cold.

BARNABAS: Yes.

Yes, go on.

She is dead!

This woman is dead.

[dramatic music]

Dead!

[suspenseful music]

JULIA VOICEOVER: A dream, a dream.

No, no, it was not a dream.

I am here.

Help me.

Somebody help me.

[dramatic music]

She is dead.

Dead.

[suspenseful music]

Roxanne.

Are you all right?

I did not tell you what you wanted to hear, Barnabas.

But you did tell us what we expected was true.

I've been a fool continuing to hope like this.

Angelique would never let an enemy live.

Then we will close the house tonight.

Yes.

I have some packing to do.

Thank you, Roxanne.

ROXANNE: What is it?

What you've just told me gives me great grief.

She was a true friend.

Oh, I hate to leave you.

[somber music]

Then stay until dawn.

No.

You should help Mrs. Collins.

I want to be alone now, Barnabas.

I'm not afraid to be alone anymore.

I know I have you.

Always.

And you will come back at dusk.

ROXANNE: Yes.

Let me take you to your house.

I've never been there.

Findley's Cove.

Come, I'll take you there.

Barnabas.

Right now, she needs you more than I do.

All right.

[somber music]

[door clicks]

Roxanne.

If it weren't for Julia,

tonight would be a very happy night for me.

Happier than you can imagine.

[door clanks]

Barnabas?

There's so many things that I want to take with me,

yet Quentin said not to.

He doesn't want any memories of this place.

Do you think I'm doing the right thing?

[suspenseful music]

You went back to Barnabas Collins, of course.

What is his attraction?

Can you explain it?

Please, just leave me alone!

How can I?

We are linked together, you and I, forever.

Don't remind me.

I must, before the police come.

I must make sure you are on my side.

I am not.

I never was and I never will be.

Oh, yes you will.

You will!

- You will! - Let go!

Let go of me!

I cannot trust you. [Roxanne gasps]

My, God.

[suspenseful music]

So

that is his secret.

[somber music]

[door clicks]

Your luggage is in the car.

MAGGIE: I never thought it would end this way.

All the generations of the Collins' who have lived here.

MAGGIE: We should go quickly.

[somber music]

Oh, Barnabas.

Who will ever turn that light on again?

Who will ever live here again?

You're thinking of Julia, aren't you?

BARNABAS: Yes.

MAGGIE: But you do believe Roxanne.

Yes.

[somber music]

[door clanks]

[locks clicking]

It's over, Barnabas.

All these years at Collinwood, over for all of us.

[wind blowing] [somber music]

[suspenseful music]

[eerie music]
