NARRATOR:The great house at Collinwood in the year ,

a time of mounting terror for the Collins family.

At this moment, Quentin Collins is in jail for witchcraft

and is due to be publicly ex*cuted.

And on this night, a m*rder has been committed in the house.

The body of Edith Collins has been discovered

in the abandoned East Wing by Daphne Harridge.

And the terrified Daphne is convinced

she knows who the m*rder*r is

and must do something about it

before her own life is taken.

Gabriel, something terrible has happened.

What is it, what's wrong?

It's Edith.

She's dead.

She's been m*rder*d!

- Oh, no! - I know who did it.

Gabriel, I'm going for the police.

No, wait a minute.

Gabriel, you were right.

It was Gerard.

He was out to dispose of her,

and he nearly k*lled me just now in Edith's room!

Wait a minute.

You were in Edith's room?

Yes, and Gerard followed me there.

I knocked him out with a candlestick.

I locked the door.

I'll get the carriage and go for the police.

No, wait a minute!

No, we've got to do this right.

Now, don't panic.

We're safe.

Now just tell me exactly.

Gabriel, aren't you even shocked by all of this?

I tried to warn Edith again and again,

but she wouldn't listen.

Now it is vital that I know everything that's happened.

Now how are you sure it's Gerard?

DAPHNE: I've got proof.

It's a cuff link with the letter G on it.

I found it in Edith's room.

They must have struggled and Gerard must have lost it.

And now how are you sure that this

is enough proof for the police?

Of course, it's enough proof for the police.

They'll come here.

They'll question Gerard.

They'll find the missing cuff link.

You can tell them about the affair

that Edith and Gerard were having,

and of course, they'll arrest him.

Quite right, my dear.

You know, it's rather frightening to

as small and insignificant as a missing cuff link

could condemn a man.

[Daphne screams]

[Daphne screaming]

There's no one to hear you, except Gerard,

and he's unconscious, remember?

Yes, yes, I can walk, and yes, I k*lled Edith.

And now you know everything.

It looks like I'm going to have to k*ll you

because you know too much for your own good!

[eerie music]

Daphne!

Daphne, are you out there?

[suspenseful music]

[eerie music]

Why did you k*ll Edith?

Because she was rotten.

No one deserved to die more than Edith did.

And I k*lled Randall Drew, too.

I think it's quite all right that you know everything now.

It was all part of my plan to get rid of Quentin.

It worked.

You're unspeakable!

Although the plan didn't quite work as well as I thought.

You actually thought that you would

become master of Collinwood?

Well, I didn't think it would be Gerard.

No, I tried to dispose of him, too.

But he seems to have had more lives than a cat.

However, his time will come.

for the position a month ago.

I heard a terrible scream coming from the Tower room.

Mrs. Collins, it sounded like someone was dying!

Are you telling me that someone was k*lled

in that room last night?

STELLA: Oh, I don't know.

FLORA: Well, if someone had,

I'd have known about it, wouldn't I?

nothing out of the ordinary.

This is a very old house.

every time you hear some strange noise in the night.

I was just wondering if you had run into Edith

- on your travels this evening. - Edith?

to see if Daphne's been there.

Oh, good evening, Samantha.

Where is Gerard?

Oh, he went off to Rose Cottage to look for our Daphne.

What's she doing there at this hour?

GABRIEL: Oh, he's actually not sure

if she's there at all,

but he's desperately trying to find her,

so he thought he'd have a look.

Why is he desperate to find her, Gabriel?

I don't really know, Samantha.

All I know is there are some very peculiar things

going on in this house, part of the continuing game

of life and death we all seem to play.

[door opening and closing]

Well, I went to Rose Cottage.

She's not there.

Flora hasn't seen her all evening.

What is all this about Daphne?

I'm afraid I can't tell you right now,

my dear, until I see her.

The last time I did see her,

she was sitting in a hysterical state.

She wouldn't talk to me.

Instead she just hit me on the back of the head

with a candlestick.

Are you all right?

Why would dear little Daphne do a thing like that?

Oh, perhaps she, she realized that you

were rendezvousing with my wife, Edith?

Hmm? [dramatic music]

That might upset her.

Gabriel!

Never mind about Gabriel.

You know how Gabriel is.

He talks just to embarrass me.

He's never gone so far

as to connect you and his own wife.

in someone like Edith.

She could very easily become interested in you.
