[eerie music]

NARRATOR:Collinwood just before dawn.

The most important dawn the Collins family

has ever faced.

For Morgan, knowing that his wife

carries Bramwell's child,

has put her in the locked room with him.

And as the rest of the family pray

that Bramwell and Catherine may survive the night,

and that the curse upon them all

may come to an end,

Morgan goes down the corridor to the room

determined that if the spirits in the room

have left Catherine and Bramwell alive

he will k*ll them.

[suspenseful music]

GHOSTLY VOICE:No.

Brutus.

You shall not have them.

They are mine.

[dramatic music]

["Dark Shadows Theme"]

They are mine.

Mine!

Catherine, it's almost dawn.

Oh my darling. Oh darling.

Is our torment over?

Have we ended it?

I hardly dare hope.

Oh my darling.

But Brutus will do something else.

I'm sure he will.

He'll try something else.

We have defeated him so often tonight.

The two of us, we can do it again.

After this night,

do you have any doubts that

we were meant for each other?

- No. - I have money now.

We will leave here.

We will not harm anyone by doing that.

It would be far worse for Morgan

if you were to stay here and play out

the mockery of your marriage.

[ghostly laughing]

Plans.

- Brutus. - Plans.

Amanda.

Amanda.

She is not Amanda!

Come to me.

No!

No, you've destroyed too often.

You have had too many victims.

It's over for you, Brutus.

BRUTUS: No.

No.

Come to me.

Forgive me.

That is all I want.

Your forgiveness, Amanda.

Yes.

- Yes. - No, Catherine.

You will not go to him.

You still love me, Brutus?

I have never stopped loving you.

Come to me.

Come to me.

We shall share eternity.

No!

Let go of me!

Let go of me! Let me go to him!

Please try, you must try to fight him, Catherine!

You must try!

[laughing]

CATHERINE: Bramwell?

BRUTUS: He must die.

No!

No, no, he must not die.

Bramwell.

Come.

Come.

Fight him.

Fight him.

[rooster crowing]

Listen. It's dawn.

BRUTUS: Come.

Come.

No.

I will never come to you, Brutus.

We will bury these bodies

in holy ground.

And Amanda will at last have peace.

Now, go Brutus.

Go from this house, and never return again.

It is dawn, Brutus.

You refuse me?

CATHERINE: I will never come to you.

You have won.

Won.

I can breathe now.

The curse is over.

- It's over. - Because of our love.

It has so much power.

We must be meant for each other.

Yes. Oh, yes.

I will leave with you today.

My darling, at last, at last.

What is it, Catherine?

Morgan will never let us go.

He must go.

Hurry Bramwell, I'm sure I'm right.

He will never let us go free.

He doesn't want us to be happy.

You are right, Catherine.

[gasps]

So, you have ended the curse, Bramwell.

And I guess you want some sort of gratitude from everyone.

Well, you're not going to get it!

Or her!

No.

[g*n fires]

Bramwell!

[dramatic music]

Oh Bramwell.

Catherine!

Get away from him!

No.

If you k*ll him, you will have to k*ll me first.

MORGAN: Do you love him that much?

Yes.

Oh Morgan, don't make me tell you like this.

No. No.

Morgan.

JULIA: No.

KENDRICK: Give me the g*n, Morgan.

Oh no.

You cannot end what has already started.

JULIA: Morgan.

Now, get away from that door,

or she will be first.

I'm going after her.

No, no you can't.

BRAMWELL: I'll be all right, Julia.

No.

They turned the corner, when I got there they were gone.

There is a secret passage

at the end of the hall.

- No, no you can't go. - No, Julia.

Julia, go see Melanie.

See if the curse has ended.

See if she's all right.

Yes, yes I will.

[suspenseful music]

I should be looking for Morgan.

I could talk to him.

And what would you say?

Oh Julia.

No.

We must go and see Melanie now.

And if she's all right

the curse will be over.

I only hope she is.

[dramatic music]

Melanie.

Melanie.

Mama.

Has something happened to Kendrick?

JULIA: No.

Oh darling.

Why am I here?

I had another of my att*cks, didn't I?

But you're well now.

Did I hurt anyone?

JULIA: No.

Where is Kendrick? Why isn't Kendrick here?

FLORA: He'll be with you soon, darling.

You're sure?

Yes.

Julia, you were so right.

I never should've married him.

I knew my att*cks would go on and on.

It isn't fair to him.

I must talk with him. The marriage can be annulled.

But there's no need.

The curse is over.

JULIA: Yes, it is, Melanie.

You are the proof of that.

Over?

FLORA: Catherine and Bramwell spent the night in the room.

And they're all right?

They left the room sane.

And I will never, never have another att*ck?

No.

- Does Kendrick know that? - Yes.

Why isn't he here?

He's left me.

That's what you aren't telling me.

- He's left me, hasn't he? - No.

I'll go and get him, Melanie.

Mama I don't understand.

Isn't he happy for me?

For us?

Oh darling, he will be when he sees you as you are now.

Oh Melanie,

if only your father were alive today.

If Justin

could only have known that

the curse is over.

He would've been all right, too.

Everything would've been so different.

Mama, everything will be different.

Yes.

It will never be the same.

Without Justin,

without Gabriel,

with Morgan as he is.

Morgan?

And I will go on remembering the rest of my life,

and wishing things were different.

Brutus Collins had his curious revenge.

Tell Mama.

Tell me everything that has happened.

[dramatic music]

Morgan?

Melanie?

She's all right.

Where are the others?

Catherine and Morgan,

I heard their voices in the passageway,

but when I got there they were gone.

What about Bramwell?

I don't know. We separated.

He's upstairs searching.

Julia, can I go and see Melanie for a moment?

Yes, yes of course,

then you can search again afterward.

[eerie music]

Then, Morgan's madness is real.

Yes.

It isn't the result of the curse.

No.

I don't know how I feel about Catherine.

Mama,

Catherine never intended to hurt Morgan,

I'm certain of that.

Kendrick!

My Melanie.

MELANIE: Yes, yes.

[laughing]

I can't stay long.

You're looking for Morgan.

My darling, be careful. Be so very careful.

Nothing must happen to us now.

Nothing will.

Here.

No.

- No! - Admire the view, Catherine.

- Please. - Please what?!

Glad to be with your lover?

Even I am not that unselfish.

No, you see he will find us here, Catherine.

Did you know that?

Bramwell will find us here.

What are you going to do?

I'm going to help him find us, Catherine.

Bramwell! Bramwell!

No! No, don't come up here!

No!

Now, we will just stay here and wait, Catherine.

Catherine look down.

Look, Catherine can you imagine yourself falling?

Falling down,

down,

and hearing yourself scream all the way down

until you hit the bottom on the hard ground below?

[footsteps tapping]

Listen Catherine.

Catherine, your lover is coming.

You can't stop him now, Catherine.

No, Bramwell don't come up here!

Don't come up here!

No!

Bramwell, you have come to see Catherine die.

No!

[dramatic music]

Morgan, let me take her place.

MORGAN: So she can bear your child?

You loved her once.

I will die for her.

Oh, how gallant, Bramwell.

Isn't he gallant, Catherine?

No, you see she's going to die first,

and you are going to watch her.

Then, you are going to die.

If we have turned you into the person

that you are now, I'm sorry.

We've all made many mistakes.

We cannot make any more. We must go in peace.

Morgan!

You will forget us quicker than

you will forget what you're planning to do here now.

MORGAN: Don't tell me what I can forget or remember!

This is the way it's got to be!

KENDRICK: Morgan!

[screams]

[dramatic music]

Morgan, my son.

Flora, there was so little happiness left for him.

I know.

But it's so hard not to blame

Catherine and Bramwell.

So very hard.

Yes, I know but

but you really should be grateful to them.

Because if they hadn't broken the curse

none of this would've happened.

Flora,

we've got to go and prepare

make arrangements for Morgan's funeral.

Kendrick, we can't leave them now. We just can't.

Melanie, what good would it do for us to stay?

I'd like to be of some comfort to Flora.

She has Julia.

Melanie, we've waited so long

for our lives to get started.

I know.

Julia and Flora, they both understand.

I swear they do.

We can leave tonight.

We can stop off at the old house and see Josette.

Kendrick I want to as much as you want me to.

Well, then say yes. Say yes.

Yes.

My horse, my horse it's at the livery stable.

I'll go into town.

I'll be back within the hour, can you be ready?

Kendrick, have you any idea how much you've given me?

Bramwell once came to me

and begged me to leave this house.

I couldn't.

I was terrified by his just mentioning it.

Now, I'm not frightened

because of you.

You see, my darling

everything's going to be all right.

Will it?

Even though I know I'm responsible for Morgan's death,

and for all the unhappiness because I married him.

Do you know what I feel when I look at Flora

and at Julia?

Oh my darling.

I feel guilty when you call me that.

But you are my darling.

Oh yes.

Yes.

You always will be.

Yes, yes Bramwell.

We will leave here within the week.

You will forget everything that ever happened here.

No, I can never forget.

I'll remember now that I must follow my heart not my head.

I'll never make that mistake again.

Never forget that you will always have my love.

Oh, that I will remember.

I'm going to make you happy, Catherine.

I promise.

[bell chimes]

I do not wish my presence here

to add to your grief, Flora.

Bramwell, I'm trying to be as realistic as possible.

Too often in the past,

this family has split apart in troubled times.

Perhaps we have now learned that

we should stay together if we possibly can.

Good evening.

Is Melanie ready yet?

Yes, she is.

But she went to say goodbye to Carrie Stokes.

Well then I'd best go get her.

No, no, I sent Harris for her.

I didn't want her to walk home alone tonight.

Mrs. Collins I just wanted you to know

how much I appreciate your understanding,

and thank you, thank you so much.

[door slams]

HARRIS: Mrs. Collins!

- What's happened?! - Melanie!

HARRIS: I found her lying in the woods.

Melanie, what's happened?

JULIA: Bring her in to put her on the sofa.

KENDRICK: Melanie, my love.

Must've been att*cked by something.

Some kind of wild animal.

Look!

- Get the doctor. - Yes, ma'am.

JULIA: Look!

KENDRICK: Melanie.

What is it?

What's caused them, tell me.

FLORA: What could've happened?

JULIA: But what kind of animal would

att*ck her like that?

BEN: If I didn't know better...

KENDRICK: Yes, Stokes.

If I didn't know it wasn't possible,

I'd swear there was a vampire at Collinwood.

[suspenseful music]

NARRATOR:There was no vampire loose on the great estate.

For the first time at Collinwood,

the marks on the neck were, indeed,

those of an animal.

Melanie soon recovered, and went to live in Boston with

her beloved Kendrick.

There, they prospered and had three children.

Bramwell and Catherine were soon married,

and at Flora's insistence,

stayed on at Collinwood where Bramwell

assumed control of the Collins business interests.

Their love became a living legend.

And for as long as they lived,

the dark shadows at Collinwood

were but a memory of the distant past.
