Oh, I love Flamenco dancing from Spain!

Next up, we've got a singer with a voice

as sweet as her favorite coconut cream pie.

CROWD: [cheers]

MAMI: Whoa! It's a full house tonight.

♪ Where the music's going on. ♪

ALMA: Wow.

MAMI: ♪ I've been all around. ♪

At Open Mic Monday's, everyone can come up here

on stage and strut their stuff.

ALMA: Ooh!

I know who else should perform at the next Open Mic Monday...

ALMA: We should sing together.

ANDRÉ: That sounds fun.

I'm in.

RAFIA: Me too, what should we sing?

ALMA: How about...

LUCAS: ♪ As long as I'm with you... ♪

ALMA: Huh?

LUCAS: [singing] ♪ I could build a rocket to the stars. ♪

ALMA: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

ANDRÉ: If you're thinking that Lucas should sing with us,

ALMA: Hey, Lucas!

LUCAS: Oh, hi guys, sorry I didn't notice you there.

Ha, sometimes I... you know, get lost in the music.

ALMA: We didn't know you were such a good singer.

OWEN: Oh, Lucas sings all the time.

In his room, in the car, even in the bath.

Has ever since he was a baby.

I love to hear him sing!

LUCAS: Da-ad.

OWEN: Some day, you're going to hear him singing on the radio

[chuckles].

LUCAS: Bye Dad.

ALMA: See you later! RAFIA: Bye Mr. Reid. ANDRÉ: Bye Mr. Reid.

ALMA: Wow.

Your dad really likes your singing.

LUCAS: What can I say?

He's a fan.

He says I've got "it."

ANDRÉ: What's "it"?

LUCAS: Uh... I'm not sure.

But I think it means I've got talent.

ALMA: How would you like to show your talent off...

by singing with us at the next Open Mic Monday?

LUCAS: Love to!

Just one thing.

What's Open Mic Monday?

[car horns]

LUCAS: Whoa!

So, we'd perform up here?!

ALMA: Yep, testing, testing...

Hey, it's on!

You should try it.

LUCAS: [ahem]

♪ Walk the world over... ♪

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Whoohohoooa! You've been holding out on us!

You can't keep all that talent to yourself.

ALMA: That's why we're here.

Can we sign up for the next Open Mic, Frankie?

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Oh, we'd love to have ya!

I just hope this room can hold everybody.

LUCAS: Uh, how many people are we talking about?

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Oh, two hundred at least.

KIDS: Two hundred people!?

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Yup.

That's four hundred eyes!

LUCAS: F-f-four hundred!?

[spotlight turns on]

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Hope you like the spotlight, Lucas.

'Cause it's all gonna be on you.

LUCAS: Uh-uh-uh, sorry, Alma, I'm out.

ALMA: What? Why?

Lucas, wait!

Where are you going?

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Was it something I said?

ALMA: I don't get it.

Lucas was so excited to get on stage and sing.

And then, whoosh!

He was gone.

RAFIA: Maybe he didn't like how his voice...

sounded with the microphone.

Are you done yet?

ANDRÉ: Oh, you can't rush a masterpiece.

RAFIA: [sigh]

ALMA: I don't think it was the microphone.

But something changed...

RAFIA: Well, no biggie.

We can just sing without him.

I can do his part...

RAFIA: Ooh-Woh-woh- woh-woh-woaaaaah...

ALMA: Hmm... I don't know...

I really thought Lucas wanted to sing.

I gotta think about this.

LUCAS: ♪ ...I could build a rocket to the stars, ♪

ALMA: Hm... Lucas looks so happy when he sings...

And he was excited about performing...

LUCAS: Whoa, we perform up here?

ALMA: But then something changed when he found out

how many people would be in the audience...

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Yep, that's four hundred eyes!

LUCAS: F-f-four hundred!?!

Sorry Alma, I'm out!

ALMA: Oooh!

I wonder if Lucas is nervous about singing in front

of so many people!

I know what to doo-oo-oo-ooo...

RAFIA: Woh-woh-woh-woh-wah.

ALMA: Be right back!

ALMA: Hey, Lucas?

I was just wondering...

uh, Lucas...?

ALMA: Lucas! LUCAS: Huh?

ALMA: [yelling] Why don't you want to sing at the open mic?

LUCAS: Shhh!

I don't want the whole neighborhood to know!

ALMA: Oh, sorry.

LUCAS: [groan] I do want to sing.

But when Frankie said we'd be singing for two hundred people,

that freaked me out.

ALMA: Oh! So, you are nervous.

But you're such a great singer.

LUCAS: I know!

It doesn't make sense.

I have "it."

ALMA: Hmm...

Let me try to help you so you can share "it"...

with everybody else.

LUCAS: What do you have in mind?

LUCAS: Alma, this is crazy.

ALMA: If you can't see the audience,

then you won't get nervous.

LUCAS: Oh. That... actually makes sense.

[beep]

LUCAS: Here goes nothing.

[♪♪♪]

KIDS: ♪ I could hike a mountain, swim the sea. ♪

RAFIA: It's working.

ALMA: Am I good or what?

ALL: ♪ ...climb any tree.. ♪

KIDS: ♪ There's nothing I... ♪ RAFIA: Ow!

LUCAS: Sorry Rafia.

ALMA: Whoa! [oof] LUCAS: Sorry!

ANDRÉ: Whoa-woah!

LUCAS: [groan] ALMA: Wah!

LUCAS: Thanks for trying, Alma, but this is hopeless.

I guess you can't help me...

ALMA: Oh, wait wait!

There's gotta be someone who knows how to sing to a crowd

without getting nervous...

Oh! Maybe I can't help you, Lucas...

but I know someone who can.

LUCAS: ...and so that's why I can't sing at the Open Mic.

You gotta help me, Mrs. Rivera!

MAMI: Mhmm.

Oh, I hear you, Lucas.

And it's okay to have nervous feelings.

Lots of performers get nervous when they step out on stage.

ALMA: Even you?

MAMI: Hehe, sometimes.

I call them mariposas.

Because they feel like a bunch of butterflies fluttering around

in my tummy.

LUCAS: Yeah, I get butterflies too!

So, what do you do, Mrs. Rivera?

MAMI: I pick one person in the audience to sing to.

Someone who I know is always there for me.

ALMA: Who?

MAMI: [chuckle] Your Papi.

When I sing to him, oof, those butterflies just flutter by.

And I'm not nervous anymore.

ALMA: Lucas, is there somebody that you can sing to?

Somebody who's always there for you?

LUCAS: Yeah, I know somebody like that.

Let's do it, Alma.

[♪♪♪]

CROWD: [cheers]

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: What a move!

Everyone, give her a hand.

CROWD: [cheers]

FRANKIE FOUR FEET: Up next, making their...

Open Mic Monday debut,

give it up for Alma, André, Rafia, and Lucas!

CROWD: [cheers]

ALMA: Come on, Lucas. It's our turn.

LUCAS: Okay, okay, ...look for Dad.

CROWD: [cheers]

LUCAS: I don't know about this.

My dad! He's gone!

Alma, I can't sing if I can't see my dad.

ALMA: Uh oh.

LUCAS: Butterflies. Mouth is dry.

ALMA: Lucas? Are you okay?

Oh no.

LUCAS: Sorry Alma, I'm out.

RAFIA: We're on now. What do we do?

ANDRÉ: Start singing!

KIDS: ♪ I could hike a mountain, swim the sea. ♪

OWEN: S'cuze me.

KIDS: ♪ Walk the world over... ♪

OWEN: Sorry! Moving through.

Sor... Uh... Aaaah...

Look! There's my son!

LUCAS: Dad!

KIDS: ♪ ...as long as I'm with you. ♪

ALMA: Wow, listen to that crowd.

KIDS: Thank you! Thanks!

ALMA: Lucas' Dad was right.

Lucas does have "it."

CROWD: [cheering]

ALMA: Thank you!

ALMA: "Ultimate Helper"

LUCAS: La-la-la-la-la-laaa!

MAMI: Muy Bien, let's try it again!

LUCAS: La-la-la-la-la-laaa!

ALMA: Ahh!

This fan feels so good...

ALMA: Hey! Hellooo?

What happened?!

TÍA GLORIA: [efforts] Aaaahhh... C'moooon!

[groans] Ahh...

[giggle] Aw... So close....

ALMA: I've got this, Tía!

TÍA GLORIA: Aw, thanks, Alma.

ALMA: Ooops.

ALMA: Oh!

You could use my wagon Tía Gloria.

TÍA GLORIA: Ah, good idea Alma.

TÍA GLORIA: [efforts]

Phew! That was a workout!

ALMA: [giggles] Here, let me cool you off.

ALMA: Argh! It's broken, again?!

TÍA GLORIA: You need help with that?

TÍA GLORIA: Hmm...

TÍA GLORIA: Give it a whirl.

ALMA: You fixed it!

Gracias, Tía!

How does she do that?!

LUCAS: La-la-la-la-la-laaa!

TÍA GLORIA: ¡Que rico!

Hey, I'm heading to the Community Center.

Wanna come?

ALMA: Oh, yes please!

MAMI: La-la-la-la-la-laaa!

ALMA: Mami, I'm going to help Tía Gloria!

MAMI: Okay, Alma! Hasta luego!

LUCAS: La-la-la-la-la-laaa!

ALMA: Okay, I'm ready to go.

TÍA GLORIA: Okay, let's...

MS. B: [efforts]

ALMA: Wow, that plant must be really heavy for Ms. B.

TÍA GLORIA: Yeah, let's go see if she needs our help.

We'll go to the community center after.

C'mon!

MS. B: Phew! Oh, thanks for helping me carry that!

I couldn't have gotten here without ya.

TÍA GLORIA: Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help!

ALMA: Wow! Is my Tía strong or what?!

They're suuuper smooth now!

Now I can really concentrate.

UNCLE NESTOR: Huh?

TÍA GLORIA: Nice one, papi!

Hmpf, looks like you've got some competition, amor.

ALMA: Here Abuelo, you can keep using it!

ABUELO: Ah, thanks to you and your fan, Alma!

I can play all day!

ALMA: Tía Gloria was right.

It does feel good to be a helper!

[gasp] Maybe I can help more people like she does...

ALMA: Anyone need help here?

UNCLE NESTOR: Estamos bien!

ABUELO: I'm good.

ALMA: There's got to be someone who needs my help.

ALMA: Bingo!

Hi, Mr. Huda!

Want me to sweep your sidewalk?

ALMA: There!

Best looking sidewalk I've ever seen.

RAFIA: Wow, nice job, Alma.

My dad thought you'd be thirsty from all your sweeping.

He asked me to bring you this banana berry smoothie.

ALMA: Sweet!

RAFIA: See ya!

ALMA: Hmm...

Who can I help next?

ALMA: Ah! Brain freeze!

But I have an idea!

MS. B: [struggling efforts]

ALMA: I thought you might need some help, Ms. B.

MS. B: Oh, thanks, Alma.

ALMA: [efforts]

MS. B: Oh, you're such a great helper, just like your aunt.

MS. B: For all your help today,

here's a little something for you.

ALMA: A plant? For me??

Whoa! Thanks Ms. B!

Helping out feels awesome

and I can't believe I get something for it, too!

Isn't it cute?

ALMA: Tía Gloria, you won't believe this!

I've been helping everyone, just like you, and look!

Ms. B gave me this flower and Mr. Huda gave me a smoothie.

TÍA GLORIA: Qui bueno, Alma!

You're being such a thoughtful neighbor!

ALMA: Have you gotten anything for helping today?

TÍA GLORIA: Nah.

Helping out just makes me feel good and that's enough for me.

I mean, I don't need anything in return.

Besides, everyone needs help sometimes.

SAFINA: Hi Ms. Gloria, Hey Alma!

TÍA GLORIA: Hi, Safina!

Rubén asked me to bring these supplies for the animals.

SAFINA: Great! Whatcha got!

Ooo, thanks!

The dogs are totally gonna go crazy for this.

[squeak sound] ALMA: [giggle]

[dogs barking]

ALMA: [giggles] [whoa] [giggles]

SAFINA: [giggle] I told you they's go crazy for it.

ALMA: Hmm...

Safina, why are your pictures on the wall?

SAFINA: Oh, because I was Ultimate Helper of the Week.

ALMA: That's a lot of weeks!

TÍA GLORIA: Safina does a lot of hard work around here.

Maybe you'll be Ultimate Helper again this week...

SAFINA: I like to do it for these fluffballs.

I mean, c'mon. Look at this face.

SAFINA: You wanna go for a walk?

[dogs barking]

SAFINA: [giggle] That's what I thought.

I'll take you. One sec.

ALMA: Hey puppies, you can't wait for your walk, huh?

[dogs whimper and bark]

ALMA: Ultimate Helper of the week...

Hmm...

Hey doggos, what if I take you on a walk?

[dogs barking]

ALMA: That would help Safina.

And, then maybe I could get my picture on the wall too.

Let's do this!

ALMA: Safina, I'm taking the dogs out!

[dogs barking] ALMA: Whoooa!

SAFINA: Wait, what?

Alma?

ALMA: Whoa, ha, easy there, doggos...

KIDS: Aahhhh... [giggles]

ALMA: Slow down pups! ANDRÉ / RAFIA: Awwww...

ANDRÉ: Cute pups!

RAFIA: Can we help you walk them, Alma?

ALMA: No, thanks. [dogs barking]

I don't need... heeeeeeeelp!

[♪♪♪]

ALMA: Whoa, doggies!

Stop! Stop!

Sit! Roll over!

Hey!

ALMA: Oh, noooo...

This is way, way, way bad!

SAFINA: Alma! Alma!

SAFINA: Alma, why did you leave without me?

ALMA: Uhhh...

SAFINA: Where are the dogs..?

ALMA: They... umm...

[dogs barking] ALMA: ...ran off.

I'm sorry...

SAFINA: Whoa, we've gotta get them back, now!

[whistles]

[dogs barking]

ALMA: There they are!

ALMA: Oh! Quick grab it!

ANDRÉ: Get it!

ALMA: [sigh]

ANDRÉ: And there they go...

SAFINA: It's okay Alma, I'll take it from here.

[squeaky sound]

SAFINA: [whistles]

Come here, puppers. Come on.

Come on, puppies!

Good doggies.

SAFINA: Ho-kay, I gotcha.

Good boy.

ALMA: Thanks, everyone.

RAFIA: It worked! ANDRÉ: Aww, hi, pups!

ALMA: Ugh. I know I should be happy...

my friends helped me find the dogs,

but I'm not.

Why?

I've gotta think about this...

Hmm...

TÍA GLORIA: Got it!

Give it a whirl!

ALMA: You fixed it!

Gracias, Tía!

ALMA: I was happy when Tía Gloria helped me...

ALMA: I got this Tía.

TÍA GLORIA: Aw, thanks Alma!

ALMA: And it felt good to help other people...

ALMA: But I reallllly wanted to be the Ultimate Helper.

I guess that's why I didn't like it

when my friends helped me with the dogs.

But what did Tía Gloria say..?

TÍA GLORIA: Helping out just makes me feel good...

and that's enough for me.

I mean, don't need anything in return.

ALMA: Oh! Okay.

I know what I have to do.

ALMA: Safina... I'm sorry, I lost the dogs.

I shouldn't have taken them on my own.

SAFINA: S'okay, Alma.

Let's take these fur balls back to the clinic.

C'mon pup troop, time for your walk!

ALMA: It feels good to get help and give help...

without getting something for it.

Wait for me!

SAFINA: Hi Ms. Gloria!

ANDRÉ: Hi! RAFIA: Hi.

TÍA GLORIA: You ready to go home, Alma?

ALMA: Actually, I think I want to keep helping!

KIDS: [efforts] [groans]

SAFINA: Uh, need some help here.

SAFINA: C'mon! Let's go!

You can sleep when we get back.

RAFIA: C'mon pups... ANDRÉ: C'mon...

RAFIA: Now what?

ALMA: Hey everyone, we could use my wagon to carry them?!

TÍA GLORIA: That's a great idea, Alma!

TÍA GLORIA: [groan] Come on pups.

ALMA: Thanks for your help everyone!

TÍA GLORIA: Great work, sobrina!
