ALMA: You're it!

BECKA: [giggles] ANDREÉ: Yikes!

BECKA: Tag, you're it! ANDREÉ: [gasp]

BECKA: Whoa! [laughs]

HOWARD: [giggles] [gasp]

ANDREÊ: I'm gonna get cha!

HOWARD: I don't think so!

HOWARD/ANDREÉ: [laughing]

ANDREÉ: Here I come!

ALMA/BECKA: [giggle]

HOWARD: WAIT!

HOWARD: Snack time?

ANDREÉ: Sure. BECKA: I'm in! ALMA: Me too!

ALMA: I am kinda hungry.

ALMA: Yes! ANDREÉ: Cheese, please, for me! BECKA: Hello, granola! Mmm!

[cooing]

HOWARD: Oh hey there, pigeons!

HOWARD: [gasp] Ahh...

[pigeons coo]

HOWARD: Hey! Did you see that?

That pigeon just took my cr*cker!

My very last cr*cker!

Unbelievable!

ALMA: Wanna grape?

HOWARD: [sigh] Sure. Thanks, Alma.

[pigeons coo]

HOWARD: Hold up.

Is it even safe to eat around pigeons?

Are they going to try to take my grapes too?

I dunno If I want to take the chance.

MAMI: Hey, kids!

MAMI: Time to go home!

ANDREÉ: So, meet here tomorrow? Same time, same place?

BECKA: Yup! ALMA: We'll be here!

HOWARD: Yeah!

HOWARD: Hopefully the pigeons won't be

HOWARD: Shoo, pigeons! Shoo!

[crickets] [cooing]

MAMI: I'll be over there, Almita.

ALMA: Bye!

ANDREÉ: Hey, Alma!

ALMA: Hey!

ANDREÉ: Hiya! BECKA: What's up!

ALMA: Hey, where's Howard?

BECKA: Yeah, he said he'd be here.

HOWARD: I'm here!

[pigeons coo]

HOWARD: Nope! You just stay right there.

ALMA: You okay, Howard?

HOWARD: I think we should find a different park to play in today.

ANDREÉ: Wait, why?

HOWARD: The pigeons.

[pigeons coo]

ALMA: Oh, them? No problem! I got this.

ALMA: Shoo, shoo, pigeons! Shoo!

ALMA: There you go! Ready to play?

BECKA: Um, Alma?

HOWARD: Ah!

ALMA: Uh-oh..

HOWARD: See! They want our snacks!

BECKA: What snacks? Do you have snacks?

HOWARD: No way! After yesterday,

I decided to have my snack before going out.

ANDREÉ: Then I think we're okay, Howard.

ALMA: Soooo, are you coming toplay?

HOWARD: Uhh....

BECKA: What's up, Howard? Is it the pigeons?

HOWARD: Well, I'm glad you asked!

I did some reading yesterday.

HOWARD: And did you know there

are million pigeons in New York City?

ALMA/ANDREÉ/BECKA: Uh-uh.

HOWARD: Which means there's pigeon for every people...

ALMA/ANDREÉ/BECKA: Uh-huh...

HOWARD: Which means

that's just too many pigeons that could go after my snacks!

ALMA: Umm... Howard, are you afraid of pigeons?

HOWARD: After that pigeon took my cr*cker?

Yeah, I'm afraid of pigeons!

I didn't like how close they got to me and my snacks.

ANDREÉ: No problem. We can play tag away from the pigeons.

BECKA: Sounds good to me.

ALMA: Me too... Howard?

HOWARD: But they're everywhere!

[pigeons coo]

HOWARD: I don't know how to go from being afraid of pigeons

to not being afraid. I need help!

ALMA: Sure! We'll help you, Howard!

ANDREÉ: I've got an idea!

ANDREÉ: Okay the plan is we're going to slowly

add these fake pigeons around Howard

until he gets used to them

BECKA: Good plan!

HOWARD: Bring '‘em on!

ANDREÉ: Coo! Coo-coo! Coo! Coo-coo!

HOWARD: Aww, hi, fake pigeon!

You're actually kinda cute.

BECKA: Coo! Coo-coo! [clicks tongue]

You good, Howard?

HOWARD: Totally! This is great!

ALMA: Ready for the last one?

HOWARD: Mm-hmm!

ALMA: Coo! Coo-coo! Coo-coo!

ALMA: [pigeon noises]

Coo-coo!

ALMA: Coo-coo!

HOWARD: Hmm...

Uhhh...

HOWARD: [shuddering]

Nu- huh.

Changed my mind. Not ready for that.

HOWARD: Nope. Definitely not ready!

ANDREÉ: It's okay, Howard.

HOWARD: Got any other ideas

that don't involve pigeons on my head?

BECKA: Hmm.. oh, I got one!

BECKA: Let's play pigeons!

All: Play pigeons?!

BECKA: Yeah, it's like my mom always says,

[NY -accent] "“If you can't b*at '‘em. Join 'em."”

So we're gonna be pigeons.

ALMA: Sa-weet! ANDREÉ: Yes!

BECKA: [pigeon voice] Coo -coo! I'm a pigeon!

[giggles]

BECKA: Coo-coo!

ALMA: Coo-coo! Coo-coo!

ANDREÉ: Coo-coo! Coo-coo!

ALMA/ANDREÉ/BECKA: [cooing]

ALL: [cooing]

BECKA: [pigeon voice] It's nice to have so many friends!

ANDREÉ: It's like we're one big happy pigeon family. [coos]

HOWARD: [coos] Yeah,

a family of million pigeons in New York City...

HOWARD: [regular voice] [shivers]

.

Million.

Hungry.

Pigeons.

[gulp]

ALMA: Uh oh... I can see where this is going.

HOWARD: million hungry pigeons that like crackers...

and will take your last cr*cker!

ALMA: Hey, Howard...?

HOWARD: And will eat all your snacks! Even your grapes!

ALMA: Howard!

HOWARD: Huh?!

HOWARD: Yeah, I don't think this is working.

So, what's next?

ALMA: I got something that's totally gonna work.

Follow me!

[traffic]

ALMA: I used to be scared of bearded dragons.

ALMA: Then I learned more about them

and I wasn't scared anymore.

HOWARD: Really?!

SAFINA: Hey, friends!

HOWARD: Hello! ANDREÉ: Hi! BECKA: What's up!

ALMA: Hi, Safina!

We're here to learn more about pigeons!

Know anything about them?

SAFINA: Uh-huh! Did you know there are million pigeons in New York City alone?!

HOWARD: [shivers]

ALL: We know.

SAFINA: Oh.. Okay! One second!

SAFINA: Uh-huh... ah!

SAFINA: Pigeons are very smart, super sociable,

and they know how to get pretty much anywhere...

HOWARD: Is that why they're always at the best parks?

SAFINA: [chuckles] Maybe!

Oh, but they're scared of owls.

HOWARD: What? Owls are in my top three favorite birds!

SAFINA: Same!

You'll have to ask pigeons why they don't like them!

But do it from a distance.

Definitely don't mess with pigeons.

HOWARD: Oh, I absolutely will not mess with them!

SAFINA: For the most part though, they're harmless.

ANDREÉ: See, Howard.

BECKA: They're harmless.

HOWARD: Hmmm... as a smart and sociable person myself,

I feel like I get where pigeons are coming from!

SAFINA: No prob! Happy to help!

ALMA: So, do you feel ready to play in the park now, Howard?

HOWARD: Totally! Let's go!

HOWARD: [gasp]

HOWARD: Eee-

[shivers]

ALMA: Uh oh.

HOWARD: On second thought...

Pigeons still make me nervous.

[sigh] Oh, well.

Guess I'll always be scared of pigeons!

ALMA: Huh.

I wonder if we can do anything else to help

Howard with his pigeon problem.

Hmm... I gotta think about this

HOWARD: I don't know how to go from being afraid of pigeons

to not being afraid. I need help!

ALMA: Howard said he didn't want

to be afraid of pigeons anymore...

SAFINA: For the most part though, they're harmless.

ALMA: If he leaves them alone, he should be safe...

[pigeon cooing]

HOWARD: Eee-

[shivers]

HOWARD: On second thought... Pigeons still make me nervous.

[sigh] Oh, well.

Guess I'll always be scared pigeons!

ALMA: But being afraid of pigeons doesn't seem to bother

Howard that much either... hmm.

[gaps] I know what to do!

ALMA: Hey, wait! I figured it out!

HOWARD: You did?

ALMA: Howard, you're afraid of pigeons!

ANDREÉ: Uhh... BECKA: Huh?

HOWARD: Um, I think we all knew that?

Well, I know I definitely knew that.

ALMA: What I mean is

it's okay for you to be afraid of pigeons!

HOWARD: It is?

ALMA: Yeah! Howard, you can keep being Howard,

and the pigeons can keep being pigeons.

HOWARD: Hmm...

ANDREÉ: Like how I don't like scary movies?

BECKA: Or how I still like to garden

even though I don't like earthworms?

Why don't they have eyes? Creepy!

ALMA: Yup, exactly!

HOWARD: I'm down with that!

I like being Howard.

And I bet the pigeons like being pigeons.

HOWARD: And...

you're it!! [laughs]

BECKA: [laughs]

ALMA: I'm gonna get you!

HOWARD: Alma!! [laughs]

ANDREÉ: [laughs] HOWARD: Whoa!

[pigeon cooing]

ALMA: You okay, Howard?

BECKA: Do you want to play somewhere else?

HOWARD: Hmm... No, I can deal with that one!

[pigeon cooing]

ALMA: Sa-weet!

Then...

You're it!!

HOWARD: Huh?

ALMA: [laughs]

BECKA/ANDREÉ: [laughs] HOWARD: [gasp] Uh....

ANDREÉ: Whew!

ANDREÉ: Oh! I bet this will help Howard!

ALMA/BECKA: [laughs]

HOWARD: Uhhh... I don't like this.

ANDREÉ: Hoo hoo! Shoo!

ANDREÉ: Pigeons are scared of owls..

ANDREÉ: So maybe this will help you feel a little safer.

HOWARD: [gasp] You made an owl!

It's like a scarecrow, but for pigeons...

It's a scare-pigeon!

HOWARD: Thanks, this is awesome!

ANDREÉ: No problem!

HOWARD: Hoo-hoo! Hoo-hoo!

Wait! There is one problem...

ALMA: What's that?

HOWARD: I'm still it!

Hoo-hoo! ANDREÉ: [giggles]

HOWARD: Hoo-hoo!

HOWARD: Don't worry, pigeons,

I won't tag you if you won't tag me.

[pigeon cooing]

HOWARD: Hoo!

HOWARD: You're it!

BECKA/HOWARD: [laughs]

ALMA: Pigeons may not tag Howard, but I still can!

All:[laugh] ANDREÉ: Whoa! ALMA: I'm gonna get you!

[♪♪♪]

ALMA: "“Supper Surprise"”

[street traffic]

ALMA: [sigh]

When are they going to get here?

ALMA: André and his dad invited me to have dinner with them!

And I'm way, way, way excited!

MAMI: So, what's for dinner at the King-Omenma house tonight?

ALMA: I don't know

Last time Mr. King made us these teeny, tiny cheeseburgers!

They were so cute and yummy,

I ate like hundred of them!

ALMA: [chuckling] Okay, maybe not a hundred,

but I ate a lotta them!

JUNIOR: Mmm...

[crunch]

JUNIOR: Mm, I could eat a whole lot of these!

ALMA: You're eating a green apple?

I thought you didn't like those!

JUNIOR: I-I didn't use to like them.

But I tried '‘em again. And now I like '‘em.

[crunch]

JUNIOR: And I really like how the

taste makes my face get all squinchy.

ALMA: Yeah! Green apples are tart, and tasty!

MAMI: You want one, Almita?

ALMA: i¡Sí, por favor!

MAMI: Okay, one delicious apple comin' atcha...

ALMA: Yes!

ALMA: [crunch] Mmm...

JUNIOR: Told you. Squinchy.

ALMA: [giggles]

JAMES: Hey, Riveras!

ANDREÉ: Hi!

MAMI: Hi, James. What's up, André! Where's Nea?

JAMES: Book conference. So it's just me,

André and our favorite dinner guest, Alma.

ALMA: What are we having tonight, Mr. King?

JAMES: I'm making my famous Supper Surprise.

JUNIOR: Um, excuse me... what's a Supper Surprise?

ANDREÉ: It means he doesn't know what he's making yet!

JAMES: [chuckles]

Well, we're going to buy some foods that we like.

Then I'll figure out what to make

and that's the surprise.

Mm-mmm!

ALMA: Ooo, I like the sound of that.

JAMES: Hey, if you like apples, we'll get some of those!

And I'll make something surprising with them.

ALMA: Sa-weet!

ANDREÉ: C'mon, I'm getting hungry just talking about food.

JAMES: I'm coming, I'm coming!

ALMA: Nos vemos, Mami. Bye, Junior!

MAMI: Bye! i¡Hasta luego!

JUNIOR: Bye!

JAMES: Bye! MAMI: Bye!

JUNIOR: [crunch]

[traffic] [car honks]

JAMES: Alright, alright!

Let's see what we're gonna surprise ourselves with today.

JAMES: Why don't you each pick a food you like?

ANDREÉ: This is it!

JAMES: Yeah! Great choice, son!

ALMA: I like these!

JAMES: Now how did I know you were going to pick that?

[chuckles] Excellent choice, Madam Alma.

ALMA: [giggles] Thanks, Mr. King.

JAMES: Ohh yeah, these look good.

Ouu, these too!

I'm certainly surprised today.

ALMA: Huh. I wonder what

Mr. King's gonna make?

Definitely not tiny cheeseburgers.

JAMES: Alright, alright... a few more things I think.

♪♪♪

JAMES: Voilà! Mwah!

I believe we have enough ingredients

to make our Supper Surprise.

[street noise]

JAMES: You ready to be my sous-chefs tonight?

ALMA: Sous-chefs?

JAMES: That means you're my assistant cooks.

In my kitchen, if you're gonna eat, you gotta cook.

ALMA: Then I'm ready!

JAMES: Now, sous chefs,

please wash all of these fruits and vegetables

we'll use for our dinner.

ANDREÉ: You got it, Dad!

[pauses] Ah, I mean Chef! [chuckles]

JAMES: [humming]

ALMA: Have you figured out what your dad's making for dinner?

ANDREÉ: No, I was just gonna ask you!

ALMA: I can't wait to see what he makes.

ALMA: I love surprises!

JAMES: Ah-ha.

In my kitchen, the chefs eat as well as the guests.

ALMA: Wait! Aren't we the guests?

ANDREÉ: No, I thought we were the chefs.

JAMES: [laughing] You're both right.

You're chefs AND guests.

ALMA: Sa-weet.

Cause,I like cooking and eating!

[crunch]

[sizzling]

ANDREÉ: Dad,

we finished washing everything!

JAMES: Mm-hmm. Uh-huh...

These are the cleanest veggies I've ever seen.

You've earned an edamame break.

[clatter]

ANDREÉ: Yes, edamame!

My favorite!

ALMA: Is it like.. string beans?

ANDREÉ: Yeah, kinda,

but the beans inside are way bigger.

ANDREÉ: Mm... mmm..

♪♪♪

ALMA: Okay, here we go...

[biting]

ALMA: Uhh... it's kinda hard.

ANDREÉ: Just try eating the beans inside.

ALMA: Um, no thanks.

I'm good. I don't really like

how it tastes.

ANDREÉ: More for me.

ALMA: I think

I'll stick with these for now.

JAMES: [humming] [cooking]

ALMA: I wonder

what's coming out next?!

JAMES: [humming]

Voilà! Here's the next treat!

ALMA: Mr. King, what are those?

JAMES: These are baked zucchini fries.

They're just like french fries,

but they're made with zucchini.

ALMA: I've never seen zucchini like that before.

ANDREÉ: Ah! You gotta try it! It's my favorite!

Mmm....

ANDREÉ: Shrimp cocktail!

Also my favorite!

JAMES: [chuckles] Uh, André!

ANDREÉ: What? I gotta lotta favorites!

JAMES: Eat up, Alma.

Or else this guy will have your share.

[bites] Mmm!

ALMA: I've had shrimp before...

but, definitely not like this.

ANDREÉ: Mmm! You gotta try it!

ALMA: It's... cold.

Is it supposed to be cold?

ANDREÉ: Yep! That's how they serve it at fancy parties.

[fancy accent] Come be fancy with me, Alma. [bites]

ALMA: [giggles] [bites]

ALMA: Hm, not bad.

JAMES: The final dish is almost done.

André, can you help me, please?

ANDREÉ: Coming!

ALMA: Hmm.. I wonder what it is.

ALMA: Ooo, cheese! [gasps]

He's making mac and cheese! Yum!

JAMES: And now,

here comes the delicious dish you've been waiting for.

ALMA: [sniffs] Mm, It's the mac and cheese!

JAMES: Tonight's supper is...

Surprise! Cheese fondue!

ALMA: What. Is. That?!

That is NOT mac and cheese.

I don't even know how to TRY to eat that!

ALMA: Is it... cheese soup?

JAMES: I see why you'd think that...

It's actually melted cheese, a little garlic,

and a few more things. It's called fondue.

ANDREÉ: MMM! My favorite!

ALMA: How do you do fondue?

JAMES: Like this...

Pick up your fondue fork...

Skewer something you like... Dip...

JAMES: Then, eat!

ANDREÉ: Mmmm! THIS is definitely my real favorite!

JAMES: Mmm! Same here.

JAMES: Ya know,

André's mom and I first tried fondue in Switzerland.

I wasn't sure if I'd even like it.

ALMA: So what did you do?

JAMES: Well, I love trying new things,

so I tried it.

Sometimes surprises can taste good. Mmm!

ANDREÉ: Mmm! So good!

ALMA: Ahh!

JAMES: It's okay, Alma. Try again.

♪♪♪

ALMA: [sigh]

ALMA: I mean,

I love cheese, but this is...

different! And I don't wanna make Mr. King feel bad.

He made this all for me!

Hmm, I gotta think about this...

ALMA: Trying edamame for the first time made me nervous...

and I didn't like how it tasted.

ALMA: [biting]

ALMA: What if I don't like the fondue?

JUNIOR: I-I didn't use to like them.

But I tried '‘em again.

And now I like '‘em. [crunch] Mmm!

ALMA: Hmm,

Junior changed his mind about green apples

and I was surprised about that.

Oh! What did Mr. King say again?

JAMES: Mmm! Sometimes surprises can taste good.

ALMA: Maybe if I try the fondue,

I'll be surprised in a good way?

ALMA: I know what to do!

ALMA: Mr. King, I've never had fondue before,

so I'm not sure if I'll like it.

But, I'm gonna try it.

JAMES: Thanks for telling me, Alma.

Alma. If you want, I can

make you something else?

ALMA: No, thanks. I like apples,

so I'll go with that!

ALMA: Fondue fork...

skewer...

dip...

ALMA: And eat...

[deep breath]

ALMA: [bites] [chewing]

ALMA: Hmm... Mmm.. Hm.

I think I like it.

But I'm not totally sure yet.

JAMES: Want to try something else?

ALMA: How about the ham?

ANDREÉ: Ou! Excellent choice.

ALMA: Skewer... dip...

ALMA: [chewing] [gulp]

Oh kay!

Now this is DEE-licious!

[bites] Mmm...

ANDREÉ: Does that mean you like it?

ALMA: Mmm! It means I like it a LOT,

and I want a LOT more!

JAMES: Ha! There you go!

That's great that you tried something new.

Dig in everyone!

ALMA: My tummy is ready to be surprised again!

[bites] Mmm... [gulp]

So good! [bites]
