Xavier: Hi there, and welcome to the show.

Yadina: Today we're going to meet a real-life scientist,

Louis Pasteur.

Brad: A scientist is someone who asks a lot of questions.

Then tries to figure out the answers.

Yadina: Like, how do germs get from one person to another?

Ah-Aahs chew!

Brad: Eeewu!

Xavier: Or what happens if you leave milk on the counter

for a loooong time?

Brad: What does happen?

Let's observe, like a scientist.

(Sluuuuurp)

All: Huh?

Yadina: Oh, Dr. Zoom! (giggles)

Brad: Milk is hard to resist.

Xavier: Yup. So is starting the show.

(zap)

Yadina: Thanks, Mom.

Brad: Mmmm, milk. Don't mind if I do..

Xavier: Comin' through!

Brad: Um... Xavier?

Xavier: Guys, you're just in time for my science experiment.

I'm gonna make this volcano...

Boom, Pcheew, Pcheew, Pcheeew, Boom!

...erupt.

Yadina: Oooops. Looks like it already did.

Brad: Are you sure you're ready to start the experiment?

Do you have everything you need?

Xavier: Sure. I... think.

Just have to add in this vinegar,

and some...ahh...baking soda.

It's happening. Ooo, no! Where's my camera?

Um... Uh.....

Uhm..

Oh geeze! I'll be back!

Yadina: Is it supposed to be doing that?

(bubbling)

Brad: It says here, 'slowly add the baking soda

into the bottle'.

Xavier: I forgot the bottle.

Where's my bottle!

Yadina: Um, Xavier!

Xavier ...? Aaaaah!

(Boooom!)

Xavier: Hey, where's the volcano?

What happened? What's going on?

Yadina: You missed! Whatever that was.

Xavier: Oh How did it go so wrong?

Brad: All I know is we need big help with this one.

Yadina: Dr. Zoom and I know what to do.

Brad: Um... Yadina: To the Secret Museum.

Xavier: Oh, yeah!

Brad: But, my milk.

I'll be back for yoooouuu.

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Yadina: And where we'll go?

Brad: And wheeeeenn!

Yadina/Xavier: Woooooh hoooo!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby.

Brad: Hi, Berby. Berby: (bleep)

Brad: Ooof!

Xavier: (humming)

We're getting something!

Brad: It's a...

fancy bottle?

Yadina: Maybe this is what you should've used in your volcano.

So it didn't go bahhh-booom-crash!

Xavier: Hey, Louis Pasteur.

That's who we're going to meet.

Yadina: In France. In .

Over years ago.

Berby: Bloop

Yadina: I wonder how Louis Pasteur can help you

with your volcano?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure? Yadina: Ready.

Brad: I'm still a little thirsty, but...

Ahhhh, ready!

Berby: Bleep Blarp Bloop

Yadina: Here we go! Berby: Bleep Blarp

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr Zoom!

Xavier: Wooohooo! Brad: Woaaaah!

Berby: Whooohooo!



(zap)

Xavier: Hello, France!

Yadina: Whoa. This place is pretty.

Brad: (sniff) Smells nice, too.

Louis: Bonjour. Ah. Pardon.

Brad: Hey, is that...?

Berby: Bleep Blarp Bloop

Xavier: Yes. Louis Pasteur.

Berby: Mm hmm.

Xavier: But, what was he saying?

Yadina: Xavier, we're in France,

Where they speek French.

We need the translator.

Xavier: Right!

Xavier/Brad/Yadina: Hello. Louis: Hello. Like the view?

I came here to draw a picture of it.

Brad: I love to draw.

Louis: I do, too.

Sometimes with pastels, sometimes with paint.

Want to join me?

Xavier: If the Secret Museum wants us to paint,

then paint we shall.

Louis: Great. Just think about what you need before you start.

Yadina: Ok.

Louis: Paper,

brushes,

paints, and water.

Get them ready,

then you can start.

Xavier: What's that, Louis?

I was too busy starting my masterpiece.

Which is...

very brown.

No biggie, I'll just use another color.

Hm. I didn't get any...

Ah...

Okay, that's bad.

Louis: Just use your water to clean it off.

But quickly - before it dries.

Xavier: Of course, I'll just grab my...

Didn't get water either.

I'll get some now.

Ahh,

Ohhh, it's half dry already?!

Yadina: It's not so bad, Xavier.

Looks kinda like a volcano.

Xavier: Really?

Yadina: Not a real one, more like the brown blobby one

you made back home.

Xavier: You're right. My painting's a mess!

Just like my science experiment.

What's painting have to do with science experiments anyway?

Berby: Dun duh duh duh! Yadina: We're about to find out.

Brad: Forced to leave my milk, yet again.

Berby: Whoohooo!

(zap)

Xavier: Whoa. Where are we?

Yadina: Louis Pasteur.

Louis: Hello. Welcome to my science lab.

Xavier: Your lab? You're a scientist now?

Louis: Yes. What do you think?

Brad: It's just as neat and organized

as your paint stuff was.

Yadina: A whole lot different than your "science lab",

huh Xavier?

(kaboooom!)

Xavier: Yeah... I guess so.

Louis: It's important to think about what you need

before you start.

True for painting, and true for science experiments.

Yadina: Wow. Fancy bottles,

just like the one from the Secret Museum.

Louis: I'm trying to find out how to stop bacteria

from growing in drinks.

Yadina: Bacteria? What's that?

Louis: Have a look.

They're tiny living things that are all around us,

but you need a microscope to see.

If they get into drinks, they can make them taste bad.

Brad: Drinks? Like milk?

But I love milk!

Louis: Yes, drinks like milk.

But don't worry,

I'm experimenting for a way to keep bacteria

out of what we drink.

Want to help?

Kids: Totally. Sounds neat. For sure!

Louis: Now, it's important to think about

what we need before we start.

Drink sample? Yadina: Check.

Louis: Microscope? Brad: Check.

Louis: And paper and pencil for writing down what we discover.

Yadina: Check Brad: And check.

(clicking)

Brad: Xavier!

Xavier: Ahhh! Coooool.

Louis: Whoa, it has a lot of bacteria.

I better write this down right away.

Yadina: And we better not drink that.

Louis: Now this drink was heated to a much warmer temperature

before it was cooled.

And...

...it has much less bacteria.

Interesting!

On to station number three!

Xavier: Oh. That's my station!

(laughter)

Louis: This drink was heated until it was steaming hot.

And...

There's no bacteria...

There's no bacteria!

No bacteria!

No bacteria. Yes!

I better write this down, quickly!!

Xavier: (gasps) No pencil.

Ah!

Oh oh!

♪ (dramatic triumphant music) ♪

Louis: Ah, there it is. Thank you, Xavier.

Xavier: Heh heh, it was nothing.

Yadina: Oh, Xavier!

Brad: Nice one. He almost didn't have what he needed.

Xavier: I think I get what went wrong

with my volcano experiment.

I have to think about what I need before I start.

Xavier: Louis?

Thanks for everything.

Yadina: Especially for figuring out

how to keep drinks like milk dee-licious.

Brad: Yeah! Xavier: But, we have to go now.

Louis: Of course. Goodbye then, au revoir.

Kids: Bye. Thank you. Thanks again.

Xavier: Berby, let's go home!

Berby: Whooohooo!

(zap)

Xavier: Baking soda? Check.

Vinegar, check, paint check-check,

dish soap, check,

plastic bottle, checkaroo,

and camera. Check check check check check!

I have everything I need. Now I can start my experiment.

Pour the ingredients into the bottle...

place the bottle in the volcano...

and...

Brad: Wow. Yadina: Woah.

Xavier: And Boom. Gotcha.

Yadina: Nice work, Xavier.

Brad: Ah! Finally.

I told you I'd be back.

(glug, glug, glug)

Ahhhhhhh.

(zap)

Brad: I love milk.

Xavier: Wasn't meeting Louis Pasteur so cool?

He was a great scientist who saved lives

with his discoveries.

Brad: Like the process we now use to make drinks like milk

safe for everyone.

Yadina: It's called 'pasteurization'.

Dr. Zoom and I call it 'yummy-ization'.

(giggles)

Xavier: Thanks for joining our awesome adventure

to meet Louis Pasteur.

Brad: Who used to be a kid, just like you and me.

Yadina: So kids like you can change the world.

I am Yadina.

Brad: I am Brad.

Xavier: I am Xavier.

And I will always think about what I need

before I start.

Just like Louis Pasteur.

Berby: Whooohooo!

(Bleep, blarp, bloop)

(deep breaths)

(ding!)

(bleep blarp)

Yay!

Xavier: Berby, you ready for another

race around the world?

Berby: (Bleep Blarp Bloop) Xavier: Good!

'Cause I am gonna flap to the finish line

in this ornithopter! It's a wing suit.

Ah-maizing fact!

These wings were designed by the great Leonardo DaVinci,

and now, I'm gonna use them and win this race!

Berby: (Bleep Blarp Bloop)

Xavier: Oh, I'm ready. Real ready!

(ding, ding ding) Berby: Woooohoooo!

Xavier: Whoa!

Aaaaaaaaaah!

Xavier: Aaaaaaaaaah! Pilot: Woooohooooo!

Xavier: Ahhhhhhh! Ooof!

Hmmmm?!

Xavier: Ahhhhhh!

Interesting!

Xavier: Ahhhhhh! Berby: (Bleep Blarp)

Xavier: Wooohooo! Yeeeeah! Ha ha!

Whoo! I don't think DaVinci ever tested these out.

Berby: (Bleep Blarp)

Xavier: Looks like, you win again, Berby.

Let's update the score board. Berby: (Bleep Blarp)

Xavier: Ha, looks like you are winning by just a smidge.

But I get you next time, Berby.

Becuase I never give uuuuuup!

Brad: Hello. And welcome to the show.

Xavier: Today we're meeting a marine biologist.

Yadina: Rachel Carson.

Brad: A marine biologist is someone

that studies the plants and animals that...aahh!

Whoa...live in the oceans.

Xavier: Oh, like starfish.

Yadina: And sea turtles!

The Dr. Zooms of the water world.

Brad: Aw I think that little guy's a puffer fish.

I wonder why they call it a...

Oh, Puffer fish!

I, um, think it's time to start the show...

Xavier: On it.

(zap)

Brad: These are monarch butterflies.

Yadina: Oooo, pretty.

Brad: And every winter they migrate to Mexico.

That means they fly south, to where it's warm.

Xavier: Cool. Dr Zoom: (sqeeek)

What's all the green stuff?

Brad: Milkweed. It's a kind of plant that

Monarch Butterflies lay their eggs on.

And they also drink the nectar from the flowers

Xavier: Oh like a snack? Won't that spoil their dinner?

Ah ha ha!...

Brad: Uh, no. It's a really long trip,

, miles.

Also known as , kilometers. Which is a lot.

Xavier: Those butterflies fly all that way by themselves?

Brad: Well...

yeah.

Yadina: With just their itty-bitty-pretty wings?

Even Dr. Zoom, famed superhero,

couldn't fly that far.

Brad: I never thought about it that way.

They are itty-bitty, and they do have far to go...

I have to help them. Somehow.

Maybe I could put them a plane?

Or put them on a train?

Or maybe I could wear some kind of flying butterfly suit,

that they could ride on.

Yadina: Maybe not that last one.

Brad: How can I help them fly all that way?

Aww. This is a big problem.

To the Secret Museum!!

♪ (playful music) ♪

♪♪

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Whoohooo!

Yadina: Or how far back in time we'll goOOO!

Brad: I'm going to find some stairs.

Aaaahhh!

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Whoohoo!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby. Berby: Hello.

Brad: Hi, Berby. Berby: Hi Brad.

Brad: Ooof! Berby: (blarp)

Xavier: (humming)

Xavier: We're getting something.

Brad: A book about the sea?

What does the sea have to do with butterflies?

Yadina: Maybe the Secret Museum thinks you should

take the butterflies on a sea cruise to Mexico.

Berby: (Bleep Blarp Bloop)

Xavier: Hey look, Rachel Carson.

That's who we're going to meet.

Yadina: In Pennsylvania. Brad: In .

Over years ago.

Berby: Woow!

Brad: I hope Rachel Carson loves butterflies as much as I do.

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure? Yadina: Ready.

Brad: Butterfly ready!

Berby: (Bleep Blarp Bloop)

Yadina: Here we go! Berby: (Bleep Blarp)

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr Zoom!

Xavier: Wooohoo! Brad: Woah!

Berby: Whoohooo!

(zap)

Xavier: So this is Pennsylvania in .

Yadina: It's... squishy.

Brad: Aaahh!

Whoaaa! Berby: (Bleep Blarp)

Berby: (Blarp Bloop)

Brad: Guys, guys..?

Something's coming...

What if it's a swamp monster?

(tall grass rustling) (footsteps approaching)

Yadina: That's no monster.

Berby: (Bleep Blarp)

Yadina: It's Rachel Carson. Berby: Mm hmm.

Xavier: Thanks Berby! Berby: (Bleep Blarp)

Rachel: Hi.

Ooh! I like your turtle friend.

Yadina: Thanks. Uhh...

Dr. Zoom says you have great taste.

Rachel: (giggles) I'm on my way to meet my friends,

Um...Want to come?

Xavier: Sure. But...

...I don't see any houses.

Rachel: Oh, my friends don't live in houses.

Rachel: There's one of them now.

Brad: Your friend is a frog?

Rachel: This one is.

But I have lots of friends in the wetlands.

Yadina: The wetlands? What's that?

Rachel: Like a marsh or a swamp.

Brad: Where swamp monsters live?

Rachel: I don't know about that, but there are lots of plants,

bugs and animals that live together in wetlands.

(flies buzzing) (ducks quacking)

Rachel: See?

Because there's so much water,

plants like reeds can grow.

The reeds create shade and hiding places that bugs like.

Xavier: Woah!

Rachel: And frogs like to eat the bugs.

Xavier: That's amazing.

Rachel: Isn't it? I love plants, bugs and animals.

And I want to protect them.

Brad: Me, too. Especially butterflies.

Rachel: That's great.

We can all help to protect the Earth.

(gasps) Look out!

Careful of the log.

Some of my friends live in there, too.

Yadina: Who'd want to live in an old log?

Rachel: Termites. They eat wood.

And breaking down the wood helps new plants grow.

While bigger animals like mice use bits of the old log

to build their nests.

Isn't the Earth amazing?

Mice: (sqeeeking)

Brad: (giggles)

Who would've thought an old log could be so important?

Xavier: Totally.

Good job protecting it from my foot.

Rachel: We can all help to protect the Earth.

Even by doing little things,

like being careful where we walk.

Brad: Hmm.

This is all really neat,

but, I don't get how learning this stuff

will help me help the butterflies.

Xavier: I don't know, Brad.

But I think we're about to find out.

Berby: Hee hee hee! Whoohoo!

(zap)

Xavier: It's years later.

Yadina: Where are we?

Rachel: Welcome to the ocean.

Well, at least a submarine that's in the ocean.

Xavier: We're in a submarine?

Rachel: Take a look.

Yadina/Xavier/Brad: Whoa.

Xavier: It's amazing.

Yadina: It's incredible.

Brad: Why are you down here?

Rachel: I'm a marine biologist now.

That means I study the plants and animals

that live in the ocean.

Yadina: What's that?

Brad: Ah, help!

The swamp monster followed us into the sea!

SOS !

Rachel: That's no monster.

See? It's an underwater forest of kelp.

Kelp is a plant that gives food and shelter to fish and animals.

Brad: Huh.

Just like how milkweed is food and shelter

for monarch butterflies.

Rachel: Exactly.

(Gasp) And, look, here's a sea cucumber.

Yadina: It doesn't look like a cucumber.

Rachel: They are not like a vegetable, we eat.

These little guys eat dirty sand and make clean sand.

Xavier: Hey, what are those pink fish?

Rachel: Salmon. They're migrating right now.

Brad: Just like the Monarch butterflies.

Uahh! Rachel: That's right!

Salmon migrate to the lakes and streams where they were born

to lay their eggs.

It can be a long, hard journey.

Xavier: What's wrong, Brad?

Brad: There are so many creatures that have to do

really hard things.

Like monarch butterflies.

I want to help them, but I'm not sure I can.

Rachel: Of course you can.

We can all help to protect the Earth.

Each of us doing our own small part.

Brad: How are you helping the earth?

Rachel: I'm doing my part by using everything I've learned

about the sea to write this book.

Yadina: Cool, it's the book from the Secret Museum.

Rachel: I want to tell everyone how amazing our oceans are.

If more people know, then maybe more people

will help protect them.

If we all did our own small part,

it would make a big difference.

Yadina: This book is amazing.

Just like your butterfly presentation, Brad.

Brad: Really?

Xavier: Yeah. We learned a lot from both of you.

Now I totally want to do my part to help monarch butterflies

and the oceans.

Yadina: Us too. Right Dr. Zoom? (squeek, squeek)

Brad: We can all do our part to help the Earth.

Rachel? I'm in, too.

But, there's something I have to do first,

help the monarch butterflies.

Rachel: Good luck, Brad.

Xavier: Berby, let's go home.

Berby: (Bleep Blarp Bloop)

(zap)

Brad: Thanks for helping plant this milkweed.

They'll give the monarch butterflies somewhere to rest

and drink on their long journey.

Xavier: And these signs you made are great.

Yadina: Yeah. Now everyone

can learn about monarch butterflies

and see how they can help, too.

Brad: Aww Thanks.

If everyone does their small part,

it just might make a big difference.

Whoa, look!

Yadina: I think they like it.

Brad: Happy to help, butterflies.

(zap)

(giggling)

Meeting Rachel Carson was amazing.

Xavier: She cared so much about protecting the Earth

that she wrote three books which totally changed

how people think about the oceans.

All: Wooohoooo.

Yadina: Those were some good books.

Brad: President Kennedy even asked for her help to understand

how pollution was hurting the Earth

and what America could do about it.
