Yeah!

SAMMY: "The Treeborhood Parranda"!

SUPER [over loudspeaker]: Attention, Treeborhood!

Grab your instruments and find your groove,

bring your appetite for yummy foods.

Today's the day we've all been waiting for--

the first-ever Treeborhood parranda

with special musical guests,

the Flapping Feathers!

Parranda is one of my favorite Puerto Rican traditions.

I usually have a big parranda with my family

in Puerto Rico every winter.

Friends and family go door-to-door with instruments

singing songs and playing music, and eating delicious food.

It's going to be so much fun to do it

with the whole Treeborhood this year!

Let's go check and see

if everyone is ready for the parranda!

[giggling]

Those decorations are looking great!

Almost ready for the parranda?

Found it!

[muffled, then clear trumpet playing]

Mm, the bibingka smells wonderful, Gabriela!

I bet it tastes delicious, too.

Maybe I ought to try one, just to be sure?

[chuckles]

Think I'll check in with the Flapping Feathers,

they should have been here by now.

[tablet dialing]

Hello, José!

[over tablet]: It's Super, I'm just checking in

to find out when you'll be arriving.

Hey Super, we're just heading into the Woodsy Woods now,

so we should be at the Treeborhood before dark.

We can't wait to play our music for everyone at the parranda.

Terrific! See you soon.

See you soon!

[honks horn]

I can't believe the Flapping Feathers

are going to be here in the Treeborhood!

I know!

That's why I made you a big old surprise.

Check this out!

SAMMY:Cool!

Your wagon looks just like the Flapping Feathers' tour bus!

It's amazing!

I thought you could ride in it

when we go from house to house singing and eating.

Hop in!Thanks, Louisa!

Let's parranda!

Where are they?Oh!

Their wagon looks just like the bus

the Flapping Feathers have.

Whoa!Did you not know?

José's favorite color is red,

Enrique's favorite food is rice and beans,

and Luna's favorite day is Monday!

[laughs]

It's getting late.

The Flapping Feathers should've been here by now.

I'll give them a call and see where they are.

[tablet ringing]

[tablet ringing, vibrating]

Hey, Flapping Feathers.

How long until you get to the Treeborhood?

Uh... [chuckles]

We... we're actually a little bit lost.

Uh, I think it's... that way!

[tires screech]

[gasps] Look out for those sharp...!

[bus rumbling, tires hissing, band groaning]

...rocks.

Uh oh.

LUNA: Four flat tires.

What are we gonna do, Super?

We'll never make it in time for the parranda.

Stay put. I'm on my way.

The Flapping Feathers have four flat tires

and they need my help.

But don't worry, everyone,

I'll bring the Flapping Feathers back in no time.

Oh, no.

This could take a while. Guess I'll go back to work.

What if they don't make it here in time?

How will we do a parranda without music?

Unless...

unless we make our own parranda band and play our own music.

But we don't even know how to make a band.

I do! My mamas were in a band a long time ago--

The Two Roos.

All we need to make a band are instruments

and someone to play them.

If we want to sound like the Flapping Feathers,

then we need the three instruments they play.

These are bongos.

[bongos playing]

This is a guiro.

[guiro playing]

And these are castanets. [castanets playing]

My mama has tons of instruments

in the Creation Station music room.

Let's see if we can find the ones we need.

To the Creation Station music room!

See?

There's lots of instruments in here.

Let's see if

we can find castanets first.

SAMMY: No.LOUISA: Nuh-uh.

SAMMY: That's not it.

Aw, there's no castanetsin here.

Let's look for a guiro.

Aww, there's no guiro here either.

Bongos. There have to be bongos in here.

Uh-uh.

No.

What kind of music room is this?

It doesn't have any of the instruments we need.

We can't make a band unless

we have the instruments the Flapping Feathers play.

Hey!

We might not be able to find the instruments we need,

but maybe we can make them?

Like these tissue box guitars.

That is a great idea, Louisa.

Where are you, Flapping Feathers?

I'm not sure.

We can't read the map.

How about you play some music and I'll follow the sound?

[playing music]

[music playing faintly]

[gasps] I hear you, I'll be right there.

SAMMY: The instruments we make have to sound

like the Flapping Feathers' instruments.

[bongos playing]

The bongo has a low and echoey sound.

Maybe if we find something

that's shaped like a bongo, it might sound like a bongo.

It's round, and it has a top that's the shape of a circle.

[chiming]

Let's test out the paint can first.

Play the bongo sound.

[bongos playing]

[slaps lid]

The paint can sounds too high and not echoey at all.

Let's test out the hat. [slaps hat]

It's kind of echoey, but it's not making much of a sound.

Let's test out this bowl.

[slaps bowl]

It sounds more like the bongo.

But the bongo sounds echoey-er, I wonder why?

Oh, the bongos have something covering the top.

Let's use this hat to cover the top of the bowl.

Hm, the hat is really saggy.

Hm, the top of the bongo is tight.

Let's look for something that will be tighter on the bowl.

[gasps]

What about these balloons?

[balloon stretching] Almost... got it!

We did it! See how it sounds.

[slaps lid, sound resembles bongo]

[bongos playing]LOUISA: Whoa!

The bowl sounds just like the Flapping Feathers' bongos.

Wait.

We need to make a second one so it matches this picture.

[taps bowl] They sound perfect.

What's next?The guiro.

[guiro playing]

It sounds scratchy.

Well, when Luna plays it,

she rubs a stick across that long round thing.

That long round thing kind of looks like a squash.

Kat and Kit just picked a bunch of squash

in the Sow 'N Grow Garden.

To the Sow 'N Grow Garden!

We need a squash that matches the shape of a guiro.

Hm... that one.

Hey!

This squash looks just like the guiro.

[guiro playing]

[stick rubbing]

Aw, the squash sounds too smooth.

Hm. [gasps]

These cans have ridges on them.

[scratchy sound]

Yes! That sounds just like a guiro.

Only one instrument left to make,

the castanets. [castanets playing]

They make a clicky-clacky sound.

Maybe Mr. E has something that clicks and clacks

in the Everything Emporium.

He should, it's called the "Everything" Emporium.

To the Everything Emporium!

[music playing faintly]

Hooray, I found them! Hey, Flapping Feathers!

Hey![gasps]

You've got four flats, all right.

[gadget whirring, pumping air]

Done! Your bus is ready to ride.

Let's hurry to the Treeborhood for the parranda.

Follow my hot air balloon!

[fading away]: Meet you there!

We're making instruments for our own band.

Where can we find things that go clicky-clacky like castanets do?

[castanets playing]

In the "Things That Go Clicky-Clacky" aisle

that Zeke organized, of course.

This is what the castanets sound like.

[castanets playing]

[timer ticking]

[timer rings, kids yelp]

Castanets do not have a bell sound.

[taps keys]

The keyboard sounds like tick, tick, tick,

not clicky-clacky like the castanets.

[shoes clack on ground]

The tap shoes sound clicky clacky, just like the castanets.

We have all the instruments we need

to sound like the Flapping Feathers!Wait!

We have one, two, three instruments,

but only one, two band members.

We need one more band member.

[rapid tap dancing]

Yes, yes, yes! I would love to join your band.

Now, let's go.

We have a parranda to start.

MR. E: ♪ De casa, en casa♪

and we'll go from house to house.

I love New Year's Eve!

I call the Wombat kid committee to order.

Today's business is how much this stinks.

Just for New Year's Eve, so we can see the acorn drop.

And what is an acorn drop?

Today is New Year's Eve.

It's the last day of the year.

[gasps] No more days? Ever?

It's just the last day of this year.

At midnight, the new year begins and the old year ends.

And on New Year's Eve, which is tonight,

all the grown-ups stay up until midnight

and watch the big acorn drop

from the tippity top of the Treeborhood.

And then they yell, "Happy New Year!"
