-Huh?

-A feather, one ofa bird's secrets to flying.

And did youknow that most of a bird'swings is made of feathers?

That's how they can fly so well.

And here are some coolflying facts about feathers.

Feathers givethe bird's wing a certainshape to help the bird fly.

Different wing shapesdo different things.

Some birds have high lift wings, and others have soaring wings.

And get this, feathersare really strong to deal

with a lot offlapping and high winds,

but they're really light tooso birds can get off the ground.

Now feathers havenon-flying uses too,

like lookinggood to attract a mate.

And you know what else, aduck's feathers are waterproof.

And that's important in orderto fly, feathers need to be dry.

-Oh wow, do you see howthe water rolls off her back?

See?

I wish I had feathers like that,then I wouldn't be so soaked.

-Exactly. So check outthis mother goose teaching her

goslings how towaterproof their wings.

First, they put theirbeaks under their wings

cause that's wherea special waterproof oil is.

-Next, they wipe their oilybeaks all over their feathers

to make them waterproof.

That oil keeps their feathersdry, fluffy and ready to fly.

-Brothers I need help.
