Hey, well wait for me!

Welcome back Snowstorm.

I can't believe my mind.

We have two different visitors!

-You're right abouther being different from Gila.

-A snow leopardand a Gila monster couldn't bemore different from each other.

Asnow leopard is a high-climbing,cold-climate, wild cat.

-Buta Gila monster is a slow-moving,hot-climate reptile.

-Hey Chris, what's climate?

-Well Zob, a climatehas to do with the weatherin the places creatures live.

Rainforests and sandydeserts have hot climates.

-Well, I live in a hot climate.

-And snowy mountaintopshave cold climates.

-Hmmm.

Climate.

-Because they livein different climates,

snow leopards and Gilamonsters need differentthings to survive.

Take hot climate creatures.

They have all kinds ofways to survive in the heat.

Aprairie dog goes undergroundwhere it's cooler.

A lion rests in theshade and pants to cool down.

An elephant giveshimself a soothing dust bath

and flaps hishuge ears to cool off.

And just like the Gila monster,

a shingle-back skinkhas spiny scales on her bodythat help keep the moisture in.

-Don't forget aboutthe fat in a skink's tail.

That feeds her when there isn'tenough food or water around.

-You can see itall in the Gila monster.

-Yeah... he's all scales.

-Yeah, scales to keepthe water in and the heat out.

And he stores fat in his tail.

-On the fur side,a snow leopard has extralong fur on her belly.

It's three inches long.

That's so her bellydoesn't freeze when she dragsit through the deep snow.

You see, cold climate creatureshave different ways to survive.

An otter has thick, waterproof fur which helps her

stay warm infreezing cold water.

-And a polar bear has a thicklayer of fat under thick fur.

-A lynx, just like thesnow leopard, has smaller ears

and shorter legsthan warmer climate cats.

That helps keepthe heat in her body.

-Whoa, brothers!

-Yeah?

-My mind is tellingme we have a problem.

Well, if Gila lives in a hotclimate, wouldn't it be better

if it was hotin Animal Junction?

for a Gila monsterand right for a snow leopard.

We need to make AnimalJunction hot and cold.

-Of course!

We'll make halfof Animal Junction hot anddry for the Gila monster...

Hey Chris, where's Gila going?

-He's burrowing Zoboo.

-Burrowing?

-Yeah burrowing.

Ah! That's it!

That's what I have to do,I have to burrow in the sand.

Gila monsters burrowin the sand and otherdark places to keep cool.

-Keep cool, but the sand is hot!

-But not underneath Zoboo.

If you put yourhand in the sand, you findout it's cool way down deep.

-Hey, you're right,it is cool in the sand.

-Yeah,and it's not just the Gilamonster that knows this trick.

A meerkat in Africapicks a shady spot, digsaway the hot sand on top,

and stretches outon the cool sand underneath.

Cool sand on a hotbelly feels really good.

Gila's spendabout ninety-eight per centof their time underground.

So that's what I have to do.
