He won't stop eating tree sap.

It's the first day of sap season.

Winslow is being ridiculous.

He even canceled our plans to go vine swinging this morning.

"We can swing on vines anytime, but right now,

the saps a-flowin' so I'm a-goin'."

[ laughs]

Ah... Eating sap must sound

pretty weird to you, huh?

But you eat sap, too,

every time you put syrup on your pancakes,

because maple syrup comes from maple tree sap.

I mean, I like sap as much as the next monkey.

It sure is sweet and delicious.

But Winslow's gone completely sap-happy.

Hmm, that does sound like a problem.

Maybe I should have a talk with that brother of yours.

Great idea, but you'll have to find him first.

Where did he go?

Where do you think?

Looking for more tree sap, of course.

Hmm. I think I have an idea

who might be able to help us track him down.

Oh.

There's nothing like sap season.

Why can't it last all year long?

[ laughs]

Oh, sorry to interrupt your meal, Burdette.

We were just wondering if you'd seen Winslow?

He's running all over

eating all the sap he can find.

Oh, my. That crazy monkey.

He won't be feeling too well eating like that.

Exactly. That's why we need to find him.

Well, I must say, being a bird,

I like to eat small meals all through the day.

That way I never feel too full to take off and fly.

Wow, Burdette.

That sounds like a perfect way for a bird to eat.

Being a sloth, I like to eat just one or two big meals.

It's a nice, slow way of eating.

Huh. How nice for you, Snook,

but that would never work for a bird like me.

Why, I once had an uncle who ate so much

at one meal that he couldn't

fly at all.

[ sighs] This is all

really interesting, Burdette,

but we really need your help to find Winslow.

Could you fly around and see if you can spot him for us?

Well, I suppose I am the best one for the job.

Well, I spotted your missing marmoset.

Where is he?

He was heading towards Bob's,

eating out of a bowl the whole way.

Very poor manners, if you ask me.

Sounds like one sap-happy monkey to me.

Yeah. We better follow him.

Um, we're looking for Winslow.

[ mumbling]

Bob, have you been eating sap by any chance?

Uh, Winslow came by and he really wanted me

to try some sap, but it made my shnout all shticky.

Oh, yeah, sap isn't a good snack for you.

You need to eat like an anteater.

I try to, but Winslow was so convincing.

You know Winslow.

Hey, what about me, Snook?

Should I eat like a sloth?

Or like an anteater?

Or like a bird?

Well, if you listen to your stomach, Smooch,

it'll tell you the right way to eat.

See, that's all there is to it,

but Winslow's ignoring his stomach

and eating just because the sap tastes sweet.

And that's not eating like a monkey should, right?

Yup. And I have a feeling Winslow's stomach

is going to have something to tell him about it.

My stomach doesn't really have an opinion

about sap, but my mouth sure doesn't like it at all.

Mmm... sticky.

So, Bob,

did you see which way Winslow went, by any chance?

Uh, yeah. Sorry, Snook.

I was so busy trying to swallow that sap

that I didn't pay attention.

[ gasps]

Look, Snook.

Drops of sap leading to the water hole.

Sounds like Ick is in for a visitor.

Well, tell him not to eat any of that sticky sap.

when he headed out of here,

he was already looking a little green around the gills.

Well, I guess you're right.

But still, he wasn't looking too good.

You have to eat slowly to enjoy your food.

Mm-hmm. Also, it gives your stomach a chance

to warn you it's getting full.

That's a good point, Smooch.

I eat slowly, too... uh, but then again,

I guess I do everything slowly.

Well, all this talk about eating has made me hungry.

If you two will excuse me,

I think I'll go and have some lunch.

Good luck finding that crazy monkey.

Hmm. We should do the same thing, Smooch.

Hey, let's stop over at Madge's for a few berries.

A good, healthy lunch and we'll be full of energy

to go looking for Winslow again.

Yep, my stomach is telling me it's time to eat,

just like you said it would.

is mint soothes the aching stomach.

We've been looking for you all morning.

why don't you sit down and take a rest?

That better not be more sap.

Oko gave me this plant to eat.

[ imitating Oko]: "soothe aching stomach."

And has it "soothed aching stomach?"

Well, you know, it's not quite as angry with me

as it was after I ate my fifth bowl of sap...

[ groans]

but I'm still hearing it loud and clear.

Fifth bowl of sap?

Or was it my sixth?

If you're feeling any better later, Winslow,

maybe we can go vine swinging.

Would you like that?

[ groans]

[ chuckles]

Looks like you won't be going anywhere but to bed,

my sap-stuffed friend.

Looks like you're right, Snook.

Hello, my dears.

I don't know if you noticed, but sap season has begun.

And I know how much you monkeys like a little sap,

so I brought you a bowl.

[ groans]: Ohh...

Oh. [ chuckles]

Maybe I'll have a little for dessert.

to make sure the seeds get covered with soil

so they can start growing.

So, Smooch, did I hear Winslow say

you were tossing worms?

Yeah.

Can you believe that worm?

He wanted to stay in my garden.

actually, Smooch,

Those tunnels they make underground

loosen up the soil

and let in air and water.

They make it easier for roots to grow strong.

And strong roots mean bigger plants.

Really?

Oh, my.

How am I going to get them to come back?

Oh, Wormy...!

Funny... oh.

Well, hopefully, a few kind words

will mean a lot to a worm.

So, Smooch, are you planning on growing some mangoes?

Well, that's not actually on my growing list, Snook.

Hey, maybe you can plant a little jungle garlic for me.

How about bananas, Smooch?

You have to grow bananas.

You help me plant the garden, and maybe I'll think about it...

We're getting Smooch's garden ready for planting.

Not that I have ever seen.

Although when the vegetables get rotten sometimes,

there are a lot of flies.

Ah, so, Smooch, what are you planning

to grow in your garden?

Well, I was going to grow some lettuce for Madge...

Oh, yeah, turtles and tortoises love lettuce.

And I'm growing some berries

because everyone loves berries in the world tree.

That's nice.

And a big squash for me.

Oh, that sounds great.

And, uh, I'll share it with you if you like.

[ giggles]: Okay, Snook, it's a deal.

Here, you can help me plant some more seeds.

You guys are soooo slow.

Our squash ready to eat yet?

Not yet, Snook, but it won't be long.

I caught Wartz and Burdette eating my vegetables.

They said they were trying to help me with the garden,

but how could they be helping me if they were eating everything?

Oh, you know, Smooch,

I think we should go find Wartz and Burdette,

and ask them what they were really doing

in your garden. Don't you?

Smooch is always nice to me.

She probably didn't understand

what we were doing in her garden.

Then she should have asked us.

Why, I'd never eat those kind of berries she's growing.

When you have feathers like mine,

eating the right food is very important

to keep them beautiful.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Burdette.

I find eating flies keeps my skin perfect--

smooth and green.

Hey, Wartz, Burdette.

Hi, Snook. Uh... Hi, Smooch.

Hi, Wartz.Hello, Snook.

Go on, Smooch.

Ask them what they were doing in your garden.

Uh... Wartz, Burdette,

were you eating my lettuce and berries?

No. Of course not, Smooch.

It's just that those little flying bugs I like

hide away under your lettuce leaves,

so I had to dig a bit to catch them.

So, Burdette, what were you eating in Smooch's garden?

I was picking off all the berry bush bugs.

I thought Smooch would appreciate

not having to pick them off herself.

So you were helping me?

The grubs and bugs would have eaten your lettuce and berries

if it hadn't been for Wartz and Burdette.

They can carry many times their own weight.

My friend Burdette. She's a quetzal bird.

Whoa! I know that's a big word,

but it just means she's

a very pretty kind of bird.

Hey, did you know that

all birds have feathers? And that no other animals do?

It's pretty cool, huh?

Burdette loves her feathers.

And she should. They sure are

beautiful.

And useful, too.

Madge is one of the oldest

and most interesting animals here in the World Tree.

Do you know that turtles have been around

for millions and millions of years?

It's true.

The first turtles were around even before the dinosaurs.

Now, Madge isn't quite

that old, but she has been around a long time,

and that's one reason she knows so much

about so many things.
