The fireflies come out at night.

That proves I'm not tired!

To the top of the world tree and back?

Ohh! I think I just hit a wall of sloth.

Nothing like a quiet evening

After a long day of fabulous flying.

I'm glad it's nighttime so I can cuddle up in my comfy nest and--

Smooch: watch out, burdette! Coming through!

Oh, my! What?! Aah!

Well, I think I've got the perfect solution for that.

Make you feel better when you hear sounds

And things that go bump in the night.

Hey! Here I am at the atlantis marine world aquarium,

Home of the riverhead foundation

For marine research and preservation.

They rescue over sea turtles, seals,

Dolphins, and whales every year.

Come on!

Whoa! Whoa!

I hope that's not a real great white shark!

Wow!

These guys are sharks,

And you see how some of them look kind of ferocious

Because they swim around with their mouths open like this--ahh!

That's how some sharks breathe.

Let's breathe like a shark.

Ahh!

Oh, wow!

That beautiful creature was a sea lion.

And there's another one!

Sea lions are different from seals

Because sea lions have ears on the outside of their heads,

And they can walk on land.

Oh, and they're really cute.

Ooh! Look! Here they come again!

Hi, sea lions! Wow!

[Humming]

Hmm.

[Snook yawns]

Wow! What a beautiful...day?

Huh. I thought I heard someone.

Did you see someone come to visit me?

Hmm. Well, I am totally looking forward to today!

Yeah! I have so much I want to get done.

First, let's take a look at that herb garden.

Snook, dear snook! Oh, my.

Oh. Hey, burdette. How are you doing

On this totally beautiful day?

Not good, snook. Not good at all I have to say.

I mean, the sun is out, the vines are swaying, and--

Mm. I do smell-- well, I smell a lot of stuff--

The perfume of the rain forest flowers,

Ah, the moist dew of last night's rain forest downpour,

The soft, delicate aroma of--

Something stinky?

Don't you smell something rotten

And icky and yuck?!

Oh, yeah. You're right.

There is some kind of rotten smell.

Uh, but I think that's sort of normal

For a big rain forest.

It's bob!

Really? Bob?

Yes. He's making something very stinky down there,

And you have to find out what it is now!

Whoa! A mystery.

Something stinky, and you say bob is making it.

That's right, and quetzals have

A very good sense of smell

Among our many talents,

And this is just too much, too, too much!

Really?

Snook, you have to do something!

Ok! Ok! I've got you covered, burdette.

Don't worry. I'll find out.

And it's coming from something bob's doing.

I see everyone's noticing.

But I'd like to know for sure.

Well, we're going to the top of the tree

And have our picnic in the canopy.

Where the air is fresh!

And the jungle breezes are blowing.

Wait one second.

Everybody wants to know what you're up to.

Hello, snook. I have to talk to you later.

But--but, bob, I was just wondering if you were--

To solve this mystery.

It's getting stinkier.

Hmm. What do you think he's doing?

Let's see. He's been collecting

A lot of leftover food and plant scraps

Like banana peels, grass, leaves, and apple cores,

And--ah--now he's pouring them into a pile.

Ah. Well, now he's got a hoe.

Interesting choice.

And he's--yes. He's raking the garbage around.

Hmm. Gee. I wonder what exactly bob is doing.

It seems to me--

Um, snook? Gaah!

I'm just curious-- what are you doing?

Oh. Hey, bob. There you are.

I found you! Ha ha! Ha. Oh.

I was just telling everyone out there

That what you're doing is very interesting

And pretty smelly, too.

What are you doing?

I'm making a compost heap.

Oh. Ho ho! A compost heap!

That is so cool.

Oh. A compost heap is where we put

Old vegetables and leaves,

And then after a long time,

It turns into good, healthy soil

That can help things grow.

That's right, snook, and since we get so much

From the beautiful world of trees and growing things,

I wanted to give something back.

Yeah. Compost is a great way to grow

Beautiful gardens and good food to eat. Ha!

Great idea, bob!

So what's your recipe for compost?

Oh, snook, it's easy. Anyone can do it.

♪ If you've got scraps you don't want to keep ♪

♪ Don't throw them out

♪ Just throw them into the compost heap ♪

♪ Yeah, the compost heap

♪ Vegetable and fruit peels, eggshells, too ♪

♪ If you don't need them, I sure do ♪

♪ It's piled nice and neat

♪ I put all the leaves I sweep ♪

But at first, everybody just thought he was

Doing something smelly.

Oh! Ho ho! A compost heap!

That is so cool!

Well, that's right. Bob was composting.

He turned a lot of stuff that everyone was just gonna throw away

Into good soil to help new things grow.

That's what composting is all about.

Did--did you know most of the planet earth is covered in ocean?

It's true. Heh.

It's a good thing, too.

Yeah. Not only is the ocean a great place

To play and swim and boat and have fun,

But all life on the big, big world

Depends on the ocean.

Even you! Ha!

It's important to save the oceans

And keep them clean because without the ocean

There's no life.

Wow! I'm so happy that we have oceans.

Sometimes, people in this area have built nesting platforms

For the osprey.

Oh. Osprey are a type of bird

That used to be endangered,

But thanks to people building nesting platforms

And not using pesticides on their gardens,

The osprey have come back.

Heh heh!

Whoa! Look! There's one now!
