Doesn't look like much.

It sure doesn't.

From what I hear,
it's really busy.

Let's see what
Mac's gotten us into.

Airport base to all zebra units,

we've got a new MO
to add to your problems.

a black Cad limousine.

Passes himself off as a taxi.

Offers a cut-rate fare

and robs the victim on
the outskirts of the airport.

Described as male,
Caucasian, 30 to 35,

wearing a black suit

and black chaffeur's cap.

Weapons used... A .38
blue steel revolver, 6 inch.

His last victim was
picked up at Terminal 5

KMA, 785.

Something new every day.

That's it, Mr. Cummings.

The detectives will
contact you in a day or so.

I'll be with you in a moment.

I used to feel sorry
for those wildcat taxis.

No more. From now on,

if they're not licensed,
they get busted.

Ron Carter. I presume
you're our vacation relief?

- Pete Malloy.
- Jim Reed.

Welcome aboard.
Lieutenant's in the back.

I understand you
have problems, Ralph,

but I don't have the manpower.

No.

No, the call came
in from Toldeo PD.

It's on flight 667 from Toledo.

Should be here about 11:45.

Gives you close to four hours.

Do what you can.

Reed, Malloy.

Right.

I'm glad the captain
came through.

If they trim any more
personnel off of me,

I might as well close up shop.

That's not your problem.

I'm assigning you
to World Way South.

That gives you responsibility

for four terminals
and satellites,

plus the parking lots.

What's our job?

Police work. All kinds of it.

We've got 8,000 cars
per hour pouring in here,

all trying to load and unload

in 185 parking
spaces at the curb.

Gives you some idea of how
many people hit this place.

The parking lots
hold about 6,000 cars.

A few of them get burglarized
just about every day.

When you have time...
And there won't be much...

I want you working car prowlers.

Come with me.

I'll show you around.

We have two small motorcycles.

When you have to get
somewhere quick, use them.

They're also quiet and
good for cruising the lots.

If you have to go in the
aprons, use a black and white.

Motors aren't allowed.

Otherwise, you'll spend
most of your tour on foot.

What frequency are we on?

Tact 1.

Everything is
through this office.

We call it Airport Base.

What was your
designation at the division?

One-Adam-12.

Okay, we'll make it easy
and label you Zebra 12.

Carter will do all
your dispatching.

Yes.

What kind of calls we're
going to be handling?

I could spend the next two
days trying to tell you that.

It's like a radio car.

Something new all the time.

Lieutenant.

We got a man holding
a stewardess hostage

at the stewardesses' lounge.

- Satellite 2.
- A psycho?

Sounds like it.

That's another airport problem.

Every weirdo in the country
seems to end up here.

- Who's available?
- Nobody. They're all tied up.

It's all yours.

Welcome to
International Airport.

This guy just flipped out
without any warning at all.

Seems he followed the
stew from the New York flight.

Then he went into the lounge
and pulled a g*n out on her.

Hobson. Mr. Cyril Hobson,

please come to the
white courtesy telephone.

This guy's a real fruitcake.

He keeps raving
about some producer.

Anything new?

This is the lounge.

Is there anyone else in there?

No. He let everyone else go.

What's the layout of the lounge?

There's a little alcove, and then
there's a kind of a powder room,

and that's where
he's got the girl.

We checked the passenger
list, and his name is Jeffers.

- How are you talking to him?
- Through the door,

but he told us to get out
until that producer showed up.

Is there any other way in?

Nope. That's it.

Let's give it a try.

Jeffers, police officers.
We want to talk to you.

He told me to say
that he won't leave

until you bring Alan
Fleming out here.

And if Fleming
won't give him a job,

he's going to k*ll
me and then himself.

Let the girl go, Jeffers,
and we'll talk about it.

He won't let me go
until he gets the job.

He means it, Officer,
he really means it.

And he's serious
about using the g*n.

Think about what
you're doing, Jeffers.

The girl has no part
of your problems.

Let her go, and we'll try
to work something out.

He says this is
your last warning.

Oh, please call Mr. Fleming.

The studio's number is

Does Fleming know you?

No. A year ago, Mr. Jeffers
came out here for an acting job,

and Mr. Fleming
wouldn't see him.

All right, we'll give it a try.

My partner will place the call.

Tell him to hurry, please.

Please.

I don't know. It
sounds like a long sh*t,

but I can't think
of anything better.

That little alcove to the right

of the powder room
door ought to work.

Let's try it.

Jeffers, we've got
Fleming on the phone.

He won't come to the
airport, but he'll talk to you.

Tell Fleming I want him here.

Tell him unless we make a deal,

I won't turn the girl loose.

He says he admires anybody

who'd go to such
lengths for an acting job.

He's tied up now. He
can't come out here,

but he'll talk to
you on the phone.

He says he has a part
you might be right for.

How does he know?

Last year, I came out here
and he wouldn't even see me.

He doesn't even
know what I look like.

Well, don't you
have your picture

in one of those
actors' directories?

Yeah, in all of them.

He says he looked you up.

You might be just
right for this part.

All right. Where's the phone?

We'll have to bring one in.

There's a phone jack in here.

Okay. You bring the
phone in, then clear out.

If I see any cops in here,

I'm going to waste this chick.

You got a deal.

Don't hurt the girl.

All right, Jeffers. We're
putting the phone in,

then we'll clear out.

All right, Jeffers,
he's on the phone.

He'll talk to you now.

Sit down.

Mr. Fleming? Mr. Fleming?

Mr. Fleming, are you there?

Ah, no, I've got to talk to him.

Don't do that. No, no, I've
got to talk to Mr. Fleming.

Listen, I wasn't
going to hurt this girl.

Stop, listen, you've
got to help me.

I came all the way
out here to see...

Listen, you guys,
don't do this to me.

I got to do this.
This could be it.

This could be my big break.

Stop. No, let me
talk to this guy.

I wasn't going to hurt
the girl, honest I wasn't.

Let me talk to him.

Listen to me. I've
got him on the phone.

Let me talk to him.

Let me talk to
him. Listen to me.

I've got him on the
phone. Let me talk to him.

This could have been it.

This could have
been my big break.

I'll get you for
this, just wait.

That's about it, Kathy.
You'll probably be called on

to testify in a few weeks.

I don't know when I'll be back.

This is a turnabout
flight for me.

But I guess the airline will
let me come back to testify.

Hey, if you're around,
maybe I'll see you.

Chances are I won't be here.
This is a temporary assignment.

For how long?

Just a week.

That's unfair.

- Oh?
- Sure.

Don't you think a girl
ought to have a chance

to make friends with
someone that saved her life?

Is that a question?

It's an undeniable fact.

Who knows? Maybe
I'd grow on you.

You already have.

Thanks again. Goodbye.

Goodbye.

What was that all about?

Business.

What kind?

Unfinished.

Zebra 12 to airport base.

Want only on Union
Union Aida 421.

Zebra 12, Roger. Stand by.

Looks like it's been
here for a while.

Yeah.

Airport base to Zebra 12.

No want.

Zebra 12, Roger.

Zebra 12, from airport base.

Make it over here. Code two.

The lieutenant has
a hot one going.

Zebra 12, Roger.

We've got a green
suitcase full of pot

coming in on flight

A baggage supervisor
by the name of Sparky

will point it out to you.

What's our probable cause?

Phone call from Toledo
PD, several hours ago.

Narco was supposed to
handle it, but they're tied up.

Does Toledo have a
search that will stand up?

A baggage handler
knocked the suitcase

off a conveyor belt
at the Toledo terminal.

The lock broke open, and

Their narco unit ran a positive
narco ban, kept a sample.

Marked a few bricks to keep a
good chain of evidence for us.

Sounds like a perfect setup.

All we have to do is grab the
courier when he claims the baggage.

It's that simple.

It's not going to be that
simple in these uniforms.

We've taken care
of that problem.

Here you are, Lieutenant.

You've just gone into
the rent-a-car business.

Zebra 12 to airport base.

Almost all the luggage
has been picked up,

The green one's still there.

Looks like we've been b*rned.

No telling. These narco
couriers are hinky and careful.

Let's give it a
few minutes more.

Roger.

Zebra 12 to airport base.

Our boy just showed up.

He's a male,
Caucasian, about 6 foot.

Carrying a top coat.

Roger, Zebra 12.
Maintain surveillance.

Looks like he's waiting
for a special ride.

Zebra 12 to airport base.

Can you get a radio car to
cover the airport exits for us?

Roger, Zebra 12.
One just cleared.

Zebra 12 to airport base.

Suspect is entering
a green station wagon

containing three male suspects.

License number is
Robert David Ocean 625.

Roger. Stay with him.

We'll intercept.

Looks like we're going to end
up with more than we started after.

These boys are organized.

Zebra 12 to airport base.

They just picked
up another courier.

Now heading east
on 700 World Way.

Airport base. You've
got it, Zebra 12.

Zebra 15 will pull in front

and block the suspect
wagon at satellite 3.

There he is.

All right, everybody
out, one at a time.

Hands on top of your head.

Let's go. Hands on top
of your head. Come on.

Turn around. Face the car.

What's the score?

I've got two cases
still to go, but so far,

I've got 40 kilos of
marijuana, 30 bags of heroin,

and about 20 pounds of
amphetamines and barbiturates.

Quite a haul.

The baggage stubs check out,

all from Toledo to Detroit.

Five carriers in
five different airlines,

all landing at LAX
within a 40-minute period.

Not bad. Divide the shipment,
cut down the risk at both ends.

This guy's out there, still
wondering what went wrong.

Tell him they should have
bought a suitcase with a better lock.

Well, go on. What
did she call you about?

Nothing, really. Just to tell me

she was at the stewardesses'
lounge until 4:30,

and then she was
off to Twin Falls.

Aw, that's too bad.

We're the victims of
computer scheduling.

Yeah. Tough break.

We'll put it together.

When we do, stand back.

Fellows, this just came in.

On Lincoln just
west of Sepulveda,

next to the airport boundary,

a citizen reports finding
an injured woman.

I'll get an ambulance.

After I waited a half
hour for a cab to come,

it was getting late.

The limousines are
around all the time.

I thought he was legitimate.

I knew something was wrong
when he turned on Lincoln,

and I started to say something.

He took out a p*stol and
he started b*ating me with it.

He kept on hitting...

and hitting.

Then he pulled to the side of
the road and took my purse.

And I begged him to let me go.

I told him he could
keep the money.

I screamed,

but he wouldn't stop.

He wouldn't.

He wouldn't stop.

Just one more question.

I found this a few
feet off the road.

Could that be part
of the suspect's shirt?

I...

I remember when he
pushed me from the car,

I grabbed to keep from falling.

I could have torn his shirt.

Find him.

Find him before he does
this to somebody else.

Sorry to bother you.

That makes number
eight in the last hour.

Airport base to Zebra 12.

Report of a limousine
parked overtime

in a loading zone
at 200 World Way.

It might be a break for us.

Zebra 12, Roger.

This is the one, all right.

Look at the blood.

It's registered to
a leasing company

here at the airport.

Get Carter on the horn.

Have him alert the U.S.
marshals and all ticket agents.

Maybe our suspect's going
to try and fly out of here.

Yeah, if he hasn't already gone.

Chuck Stanton,
U.S. Marshal's Office.

Pete Malloy. This is
my partner Jim Reed.

- Hello, Jim.
- How you doing?

What do you have?

Well, I started nosing around

after Carter at the
substation called.

This guy doesn't
quite fit the description,

except for the
clothes. Take a look.

He came in here

paid cash for a one-way
ticket to Salt Lake

and didn't have any luggage.

He's been acting kind
of freaky since he arrived.

You're right. He doesn't match.

I hate to take a chance
on letting him board.

The victim said
that he had a g*n.

Something showed up
on your metal detector.

Part of my job is to keep
weapons off the aircraft.

I'll tell you what. If we can get a
good reading on the magnetometer,

- we could take him.
- If he is our suspect

and he's armed, what
about the other passengers?

I can make sure he's
alone on the jetway

when he goes through
the magnetometer.

Looks too good to pass up.

What do you think, Pete?

Let's give it a try.

Okay. Reed, take the
lobby, Malloy, the jetway,

and I'll set it up.

I want you to make
sure that this one guy

comes in here, does not get
through with anybody else near him.

Okay, Noel.

Good evening,
ladies and gentlemen.

Flight 618 from Los
