That's me, Fred the housecat.

So, in conclusion,

you can see that it takes days for my bean

to grow roots, stems and its first set of leaves!

The end.

(Applause)

Aww, thanks, guys!

I just hope that's the reaction I get from the judges.

This year's Animal Science Fair

is going to have some stiff competition!

But I'm ready for it...

right?

Oh yeah, no doubt!

You're so ready, Dais!

So, so, so ready!

Yes, yes!

Nothing can stop you now, Daisy!

Literally not a single thing!

(Wind blowing)

Oh no, my bean seeds!

Okay, I jinxed it, didn't I?

There we go, just like before.

Sort of.

They're ruined!!

Whhhhyyyyyy?!

(Crying)

I really thought this was the year I'd win a medal.

I spent weeks preparing my experiment

and now all I have to show for it is...

This.

(Sad trombone music playing)

Sorry.

I had the trombone on me and just couldn't resist.

Heh, heh.

Okay, yeah, I'm gonna go.

Oh, well.

Looks like I can't be in the science contest now.

Hmm.

Wait a second!

What if we create a whole new exhibit for the science fair!

Something that will really knock the judges off their feet!

Whoa!

Oops.

Sorry, guys.

That's an awesome idea! I love fairs!

I mean, mostly the ones where there's cotton candy

and funnel cake.

But, you know, science ones, too.

There might still be food though, right?

That does sound great, you guys.

There's just one teensy problem.

The science fair is tonight.

"th Annual Animal Science Fair, tonight."

But what if someone reads this flyer tomorrow?

That's just confusing!

I'm sorry, Nature Cat,

but there's simply not enough time to come up with a new idea.

Sure there is!

Especially if we all work together as a team

and brainstorm.

Right, g*ng?

Count the mouse in!

if I drop these two different-sized acorns

how much wood could a woodchuck chuck

if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

But none of our ideas really worked out.

Maybe we should just call it a day.

I hurt another plant!

Can this day get any worse?!

Did you just see that?!

I've never seen a plant move like that before!

Me neither.

I always thought plants just kind of stood still like...

plants.

Well, this one's got some serious plant moves.

It says here it's a kind of sensitive plant.

No way!

The plant does this to scare off insects and other pests.

Um, guys?

It's trying to make us go away.

Wait, so wait, so wait.

So, this plant can move on its own?

Whoa, I wonder, do other plants do this too?

If we want to impress the judges,

we're gonna need to find a few more examples

of plants that move.

But where?

RONALD: Oh, no!

Help!

Somebody help me!

What in the woods happened here?

I seem to have put a little too much vinegar

inside my volcano for tonight's science fair,

and my lava flow became a lava expl*si*n.

This stuff is sticky.

Help!

Fear not, Ronald.

Help is on the way!

Yuck, this lava stuff is kinda gross, Ron-Man.

You're telling me! Just get it off!

Here!

This might do the trick.

Ah, great!

Now I'm going to have to redo my hairdo,

make myself devilishly handsome all over again,

and then fix my lava problem.

Well, now that you can move again,

we've got science fair problems of our own.

Ronald!

You copied my science project!

Well, I started to copy you,

then I got a brainstorm and turned to the volcano!

Boom-shaka-laka!

Man, oh, man!

Guys, check this out!

Oh yeah, looking good, Ronald.

Okay, uh, this is weird.

Even though the plant knocked over,

the stem made a hard turn back towards the sky.

So now, it's growing in the exact same direction

as the plant next to it!

And look!

The plant's roots turned back down towards the ground.

How is that even happening?!

How do the different parts of the plants

know which way is down and which way is up?

I don't know!

This is totally blowing my mind!

Totally what she said!

Roots and stems can sense the pull of gravity,

you know, that force that keeps us on the ground.

Roots will always head downward to find water and nutrients.

Stems will head upward to find sunlight.

Just another example of a plant moving on its own

to get what it needs!

I never knew plants could tell which way is up

and which way is down.

And also, different parts could turn and move as they grow.

Whoa!

The judges are gonna love this!

Just a couple more photos for the exhibit!

(Camera clicking) There.

But I really do need one more example of plants moving

if I'm gonna prove my point for the judges.

Well, if you don't mind,

I need to be attending to my volcano again.

Without, you know, distractions.

The Gardens of Gold!

Whoa!

It's even more breathtaking than I remember.

These sunflowers are so pretty, I can't handle it.

Oh, how much longer till your seeds are ready?

I love sunflower seeds!

So, do you guys notice anything particular

about these sunflowers?

Yes!

The flowers that are blooming are facing the same direction:

directly towards the sun!

So, what you're telling me is these young sunflowers

track the sun as it moves across the sky?

Oh, yeah!

Last time we were here,

I videotaped these beautiful sunflowers for hours.

In the morning, the young sunflowers angle themselves

towards the rising sun

to soak up as much delicious sunlight as possible,

and then follow the sun as it moves from east to west.

That helps them grow big and tall,

like these guys over here.

And when they're fully bloomed, they stay facing east.

Oh, man!

This is blowing my mind again!

So, even though plants are rooted to the ground,

they have ways of turning and moving

to get the things they need to survive, like light and food?

Look, I'm following the sun like a sunflower!

This is fun.

Wait, hold on. Hear me out.

What if we called them "fun-flowers"?

But is it the right size?

Well, the old mouse said it was as tall as one mouse

standing on a rabbit standing on a cat

standing on a dog so...

Let's measure you guys!

Huh?

Are we as tall?

I can't really tell.

We need to get closer!

Yeah! Closer!
