- Catcher's mitt!

- Glow-in-the-dark paints.

We wrote it all down for you.

- Now that was very
thoughtful of you boys.

- Sean, Seamus, don't you
think this is a little much?

- But it's going
to be our birthday!

- We're supposed
to get lots of presents!

- Receiving gifts is
one the best parts

of having a birthday.

- Dad, you're not helping.

- Of course, other things are
important as well, you know.

- You wouldn't happen to
have a story about that,

would you, dad?

- Well now, there was this
one birthday in particular

that I remember.

My ninth I believe it was.

- Did you get lots of presents?

- Really good stuff?

- Boys, that year I
received a birthday gift

I will never forget.

[inspirational music]

- [Ma Winks] Piggley,
rise and shine, Darlin.

- [Dad Winks] Come on, son,
it's time to get up for school!

- Jakers, it's Monday!

[whimsical music]

Only four more days
until me birthday!

Is it snowing, Dad?!

- Well, I...

[whimsical music]

- Ah no, not a bit of
snow to be seen anywhere.

Eh, that's all right.

It'll snow soon, it always
snows in time for me birthday!

- Have you got a birthday
coming up then, Piggley?

- Huh?

- Heh, heh, that's funny, Dad.

Pretending like you forgot
it's me birthday and all.

[Chuckling]

[animals snoring]

- Snow?

Well, no wonder we're freezing!

- Okay, flock, it's
officially winter!

Time to switch to our woolies!

[whimsical music]

[sad violins]

[stretching]

[soft blowing]

Hey, what's going on here?

What's wrong with my wool?

[whispering]

Sweet Sally from
Sligo, I'm going bald!

[munching with
utensils clanking]

- Nine is almost 10, you know.

And being 10 is almost
like being a teenager!

- Oh yes, being nine is a
marvelous thing all right.

- Of course, being nine
means I'm ready for

older toys as well.

[loud munching]

Just so you know when
you're picking out

me birthday present.

- Now son, don't be
expecting a lot in the way

of presents this year.

- I know, Dad, it's
not how much you get,

but what you get
that makes the day.

- That was great porridge, Mam!

It'll keep me warm all day.

[soft orchestral]

[soft footsteps]

- You know son, it's been a
bit of a rough year for us.

The crop didn't fetch
what we were hoping,

and we had to fix
the roof on the barn.

And now winter is setting in--

- I know, Mammy.

I don't need a whole
lot for me birthday.

There's only one thing I want.

And you know what that is!

[soft and whimsical orchestral]

- Oh!

[sighing]

Are you sure that's
what your getting

for your birthday, Piggley?

- Of course it is.

I told me mam and dad
that it's the only thing

I'm hoping for.

- Janey Mack!

I'd love to get a new sled
meself someday, Piggley!

- This isn't just
a new sled, Ferny.

It's the Astro Space-Sled!

It's built for speed!

It says so, right there!

I'll have the fastest
sled in all of Tara!

[heroic theme music]

[rocket engine chugging]

[rocket engine boosting]

Wahoo!

[heroic theme music]

Wahoo!

[whooshing]

[heroic theme music]

[whooshing]

- Oh Piggley, you're going
to have such a grand time

riding in that rocket sled!

- You will as well, Ferny.

And Dannan too!

Sure I'm going to
share it with ya, lads!

- Janey Mack!

- You will?

- First I'll ride
it, then Dannan will.

Then I'll ride it
again, then you Ferny.

Then me, then Dannan, me,
Ferny, me, Dannan, me.

It'll be absolutely equal turns!

- It's a good thing we're on
our way to school, Piggley.

You might want to
work on your numbers.

[soft wind blowing
and fire crackling]

[sheep singing
non-lyrical doo-wop]

but I'm still going bald here.

[snoring]

[shivering]

Aha!

Magic-growth fertilizer.

We'll grow anything on
the farm, twice as fast

and twice as strong!

Order by mail today.

This stuff will grow
anything, even my wool.

Hey Birney, you're a genius!

[whimsical music]

- Ah no, no snow yet!

Oh well, tomorrow for sure!

- Piggley?

- Three more days, lads,
just three more days.

[laughing and shouting]

- Ha, That was a mighty
last ride of the season!

- Oh, it really was!

- Yes, it was.

But the time has come to put
the ol' Raloo Rocket away

for the winter.

- Oh, do we have to, Piggley?

- I'm afraid so.

It's going to snow soon
and the wheels don't work

in the snow.

Besides, they might rust!

- Oh, I'm sure
going to miss her.

- Me too.

- I know.

But cheer up, lads.

Soon we'll be able to ride on
my brand new Astro Space-Sled!

[mimicking rocket boosting]

- That's right!

And you promised we could
take turns on it as well!

- I can't wait for my turn!

- The Astro Space-Sled can
go faster than any other sled

in the whole world!

[giggling and whooshing]

- Piggley.

- Oh, sorry, Dad.

We're just doing a bit
of practicing for riding

in my new sled.

- Son, we talked about this.

- Talked about what, Dad?

- Dannan, why don't you
and Ferny go outside

and wait for Piggley now.

- Yes, Mr. Winks.

Come on, Ferny.

- We'll be right outside
waiting for you, Piggley.

- So, uh, what did you want
to talk to me about, Dad?

- I want to talk about
you hanging your hopes

on an expensive gift, Piggley.

- Oh, that.

- Now, if you want
to play in the snow,

we have a pair of old skis.

- Old skis?

Dad, old skis can't compete
with the Astro Space-Sled.

It's built for speed!

- You're setting yourself up for

a big disappointment, Piggley.

I'm afraid that getting that
sled is just not possible.

- Of course it is.

It's still in Miss
Nanny's shop window!

- Son, you are not getting
that sled for your birthday.

- But--
- No buts.

I'm sorry.

I'll see you at supper.

- Piggley, are you all right?

- Oh, everything's fine.

Me dad was just
having me on a bit.

- Do you think so?

- Of course I do!

- I don't know, Piggley.

He sounded like he
really meant it.

- Ah, no.

He always says I'm not getting
something, and then I do.

- Really?

- You'll see.

On my birthday, I'll have a
brand new Astro Space-Sled!

- [Grandpa] I was really looking
forward to that birthday.

But it was taking it's
own sweet time arriving!

Each moment at school
was like an eternity.

[soft whimsical music]

[soft footsteps]

I didn't even have Dannan
and Ferny to help me

pass the time.

They said they were too busy.

I had no idea what
they were up to.

[chair creaking]

[soft whimsical music]

[soft banging on metal]

[softer banging on metal]

Every morning I looked to
see if snow was falling.

And every afternoon, I
looked to see if my father

had purchased my sled yet.

It seemed like I was going to
be eight years old forever.

[book pages turning]

[clock ticking]

[clock winding]

[sighs]

Then, finally, the big day came!

- Jakers!

You have to snow today.

It's my birthday!

- Hot-cha-cah-cha!

[mischievous tune]

- Somebody is having
a birthday today!

- A birthday, you say?

Now who's birthday
could it be, I wonder?

- It's Piggley's
birthday, Mr. Hornsby!

- Oh, Is it now?

- That's right!

And you know what that means.

- Birthday bumps!

[rowdy cheering]

- Oh no!

- Ready?!

- One,

two,

three,

four,

five,

six,

seven,

eight,

nine.

- And one for good luck!

[cheering]

- Happy Birthday!

- Happy birthday, Piggley.

- It's still there.

- Do you think that maybe
you're not going to get

the sled after
all then, Piggley?

- Don't worry.

Me dad still has the whole
rest of the day to come

and pick it up.

That's just his way, you know.

He likes to keep me
on my tippy toes.

I'll see you lads later at my
house for some birthday cake!

Then you can see my new
Astro Space-Sled in person!

[whooshing]

[whimsical music]

♪ We'll grow
anything on the farm

♪ Twice as fast
and and do no harm

♪ Miracle growth

- [Dad] Go on, Piggley.

Blow out the candles!

[everyone cheering]

- Now can we have
the cake, Mammy?

- I think, Piggley might
like to open his gifts first.

- Yes!

- Oh, the gifts!

- Open them up, Piggley!

- It's Piggley's birthday,
so it's Piggley's choice.

- Hmm.

[gasping]

- It's a racing helmet, Piggley!

My dad and I made it for you!

It's built for speed!

- Thanks Ferny.

Thank you, Don Toro.

I'll be needing this just in
case I'm ever going super fast.

Jakers, a scarf!

- [Everyone] Ooh.

- Ah.

- I made it meself, Piggley!

- Thank you, Dannan!

So these gifts must
be the reason that you

and Ferny disappeared every
day after school then!

[giggling]

- Those are from
your sister, Piggley.

- Mammy helped me to
make them all by myself!

- Eh, thank you, Molly.

They're beautiful.

And you can borrow
them anytime you want.

- And this is from your
father and me, Piggley.

- Thanks, Mammy!

What is it?

Jakers!

Look at this!

- Ooh, it's a new top!

[slicing through the air]

- What a little beauty!

- It certainly is that!

- Look at it spinning!

- Thank you, Mam!

Thank you, Dad!

- Well, that's it then.

- Dad?

- Happy birthday, son.

[melancholy tune]

- You wouldn't be ready
for some cake now,

would you Molly?

- Yes I would, now's
a great time for cake!

[crowd chatting to
among each other]

- Ah.

That Magic-growth
stuff really works!

It makes anything grow!

Of course there are
a few side effects.

But don't get me wrong,
I can live with it.

- Thank you Mr. Winks.

- Thanks Ferny.

- Thanks everybody!

Piggley, Mammy?

Doesn't he have to help?

- Not tonight, pet.

Tonight, he's the birthday boy.

- Did you have a
good birthday, son?

- Oh, uh, yes, Dad.

It was great.

I had me friends here.

And, I got this great helmet.

And this brand new top.

- I know you had your heart set
on that Astro sled, Piggley.

- Oh, that's okay, Dad.

I don't really need it.

- Well, there is one more
thing I've got for you.

It's in the barn.

- Jakers!

I knew it!

- Piggley, wait!

It's not what you think!

[inspirational music]

[gasping]

[soft and lighthearted
orchestral]

- I know this isn't exactly
what you had in mind, Piggley.

And it's not nearly
as fancy as that

Astro sled you wanted.

But I did attach the front
skis to the steering wheel,

so you can steer it.

And I put on a brake so
you don't go sliding into

the pond after a fast run.

- Dad, you made this for me?

It's brilliant!

Really brilliant!

It's much better than
the Astro Space-Sled!

- It is?

- Of course it is!

Now me and Ferny and
Dannan don't have to put

the Raloo Rocket away
for the winter after all!

- Yes.

That's true!

- And we can all go
sledding together.

We won't even have
to take turns!

- No, you won't
have to take turns!

- This looks like it's
built for speed, Dad.

How fast do you think it'll go?

- Well, there is this trick
I know to make skis slip

across the snow like lightning.

- You do?
- I do!

We'll need some wax.

- I'll get some candles!

[soft and lighthearted tune]

- Not too hard, you
want it to be smooth.

Just like that.

- This is going to be the
fastest sled

anyone has ever seen.

I just wish we had some
snow so we could try it out!

- Piggley?

- Yes, Dad?

[magical theme music]

It's snowing, Dad.

- Of course it is, son.

It's your birthday.

Come on, let's go sledding!

- Wahooo!

[laughing and cheering]

- Now that was a birthday
gift I will treasure forever.

Now, about your birthday
boys, let's take a look

at this list of things you want.

Video games, baseball gloves...

- Uh, Grandpa?

I think we're gonna work
on making a new list.

- Yeah.

- Are you saying that this
list isn't right, then?

- We need to
re-think it a little.

- And maybe ask for something
that you and Mom and me

and Sean can all do together!

- Well, Dad, it looks like
you and I may be busy,

turning ordinary sleds into
Raloo Rocket Sleds this year.

- I'm looking forward to
working on it with you, Ciara.

It'll be one more birthday
gift I'll not soon forget.
