- ♪ Once upon a time, there was a mom ♪

♪ Her name was Mrs. Pteranodon ♪

♪ Sitting on her nest, she heard a scratching and said ♪

- Oh, boy, my eggs are hatching!

- ♪ One by one, her kids popped free ♪

♪ Baby Pteranodons, one, two, three ♪

- I'll name you Tiny, Shiny, and Don.

- ♪ But Tiny said ♪ - Wait, there's one more, Mom!

- ♪ The last little baby was a different size ♪

♪ With teeth and a tail and big green eyes ♪

♪ He didn't look anything like the rest ♪

- What am I doing in a Pteranodon nest?

♪ But dear old Mrs. Pteranodon said ♪

- Oh, this is your family, and I'm your mom.

You may be different, but we're all creatures.

All dinosaurs have different features.

Come on, Buddy, we'll take a vacation.

I'll get us a ticket at Pteranodon Station.

We'll travel the world in sunshine and rain

and meet all the species on the...

- ♪ We're gonna ride... ♪ - ♪ Ride, ride, ride, ride ♪

[train whistle toots]

- ♪ The Dinosaur Train ♪

- [roars]

[all humming]

- Okay, Tiny, you got it?

- Rawk! Got it!

- Rawk! It's lovely, kids!

These are the prettiest Winter Solstice decorations

you've ever made.

- Yoo hoo!

Pteranodons!

- Larraine, hello!

Hi, Leroy and Lily. Welcome.

[together] Yeah! Happy Winter Solstice Eve!

- Okay, remember: it's the shortest day of the year,

so that gives us even less time to get ready

for Winter Solstice tomorrow, and we've got a lot to do.

So let's get started!

- Yay! Wait. So what do we do?

- Let's all work together and collect red and green flowers,

berries, and shiny shells.

Then we'll all help put 'em up

in the big tree to decorate today!

- And don't forget, we have to catch lots of fish

for the feast tomorrow.

- And leaves!

- Yum! - Good!

Let's start collecting! Rawk!

[together] Let's go!

- Rawk!

Remember being a kid on Winter Solstice Eve?

[kids yelling excitedly]

I used to love decorating the tree.

I still do. - Me too.

And I'm here to help.

You're planning to decorate the nest, too, right?

Oh, I think I like the red flowers.

No, the green flowers.

No, the--the--the red.

- How about a few of both?

- [gasps] Yes, both!

Now, how about some berries?

- Mom, when are Dad and Mr. Lambeosaurus coming back?

- Well, they went to the big pond

to collect the red platanoid leaves.

It wouldn't be Winter Solstice

without platanoid leaves for the centerpiece.

So they should be back any minute.

- ♪ 'Cause Solstice time is here ♪

♪ Family and friends gather near ♪

[train whistle toots] - Oh, that's the train, Larry.

Let's start heading back.

- Okay, I just wanna grab

that good bunch way up there...

- Larry, time's a-wastin'!

You know the Dinosaur Train always leaves on time.

We have to hurry!

- All aboard!

[both panting]

- Wait! Come back!

[sighs] Well, what do you know?

We missed the Dinosaur Train.

- Larry!

I told you the Dinosaur Train always leaves on time!

- Relax, Mr. P.

Another train will come along any minute.

- [groans]

- Eh?

- [groans] - [chomps]

- Okay, done!

So what should we do now?

- What if we worked on a song to sing tomorrow?

- Great idea, Buddy!

And maybe put on a little Winter Solstice play?

- Yeah, let's go make a plan. - Let's go!

- And that's my problem with you, Larry.

You never make a plan! You just--

[train whistle toots] What's that? A train?

- All aboar--

- Right, right, all aboard. I'm starving.

Where's your dining car?

- Um, the Rocket Train is going by Pteranodon Terrace,

isn't it?

- It is. - Thank goodness.

Better go find Larry before he eats the furniture.

- All aboard!

- Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.

[mutters]

- Larry, how many leaf-loaves have you already eaten?

- Um...three? - Three.

And now you're eating this huge pile of leaves?

- Hey, you're a carnivore. I'm a herbivore.

We have to eat a lot of leaves.

- I can't even see over this pile of leaves.

Look how you've taken over this whole table.

You never think of anyone but yourself!

- I do so think of-- - Really? Oh, really?

- Pteranodon Station next stop.

[Mr. Pteranodon and Larry continue arguing]

- Let's start again. From the top.

- And don't forget your dance moves!

- ♪ Winter is here... ♪

- Mom, we really want to start the Solstice festivities.

Where's Dad and Mr. Lambeosaurus?

- Oh, you know how your father and Larry are

when they're together.

They probably got a little distracted by something.

[chomping]

Mmm-mmm-mmm!

Ahh!

Finally! That huge pile of leaves

was really distracting me from making my point,

which was--

I can't remember what my point was.

[bird squawks]

Aah! We missed our stop!

- No, we didn't. - Yes, we did!

We're heading under the sea.

- Come on, we're not heading under the sea.

- Next stop, Elasmosaurus Undersea Station.

Under the sea!

- Huh. Oh. What do you know?

- [groans]

[train bell dinging]

[majestic music]

♪ ♪

- Okay, okay, so all we have to do

is get off and wait for the next train going back.

Right, Mr. Thurston the Conductor, huh?

- There will be a train going back

to Pteranodon Terrace, right?

Yes. Eventually.

- [groans]

I just wanna get home

to spend the holiday with my family.

- Ah, any minute now, another train--

- Larry, please, just shh!

- Hey! How are you two doing? [both gasp]

- Who said that?

- I did! The name's Seastar.

I'm waiting for the next train

to the Big Pond!

- Wha--the Big Pond?

Well, that's near where we're going.

Or trying to go.

- Oh, you doing some holiday travel too?

I always vacation with my cousins at the Big Pond.

Winter Solstice dinner, all the relatives.

- Ha ha! Great!

Why don't we all ride together?

The next train should be here any minute.

- How would you know, Mr.-- - There you go again, Mr. P.

You need to accentuate the positive.

- Ha! No, you need to just--

- Guys, it's the holidays, huh?

Let's find some of that Winter Solstice spirit

and get along.

Whaddaya say, huh?

[bubbling]

- Hello, everyone!

- Gilbert? Aren't you a little young

to be piloting the submarine?

- I'm training for my submarine pilot's license,

so Uncle Conductor lets me take it out on the weekends.

Anyone need a ride? - Ooh, ooh!

Can you take us to Pteranodon Terrace

in that thing?

- I sure can!

- Well, hold on.

Shouldn't we wait for an actual train?

- I say we go home on the submarine!

I've always wanted to ride in a submarine.

- Ha ha! Yeah! I vote submarine too!

- All aboard!

- ♪ Down in the sea so green ♪

♪ Deeper than we've ever been ♪

- ♪ We'll see things we've never seen ♪

- ♪ Diving down in our green submarine ♪

[laughter]

- Uh, Gilbert, no offense,

but do you know where you're going?

- Abso-tutely-lutely, Mr. P!

We should reach the shore soon.

Then I'll open the hatch and see where we are.

- Great.

- What do you think looks best?

I've got crunchy leaves, soft leaves,

big leaves, small leaves.

- I think it looks nice the way you have it.

- Mom, where do you think is the best place

to set up a trapeze?

[all gasp]

all: Grandma and Grandpa Pteranodon!

[cheering] - Whoo-hoo, they're here!

both: Hey, kids. Happy Winter Solstice Eve!

- We're so glad you're here.

Now we can start the festivities.

- Rawk! No, we can't.

Dad and Mr. Lambeosaurus still aren't here.

- Oh, right. When are they getting back?

- You'll just have to be patient, Don.

You know how your dad and Larry are.

Sometimes weird and unexpected things happen to them.

- Hmm.

Well, this isn't Pteranodon Terrace.

It looks more like the North Pole.

- Is that the North Pole Station over there?

Oh, yep! I think it is.

- Good. Come on, Larry. Let's get back home.

- If you wanna get back in the submarine,

I can try again.

- Ha. No, uh, thanks, Gilbert.

I'd rather take my chances catching a train here.

- Bye, Gilbert! - That was neat!

- And then we're gonna link hands

and all dance around the tree!

- And then eat a huge fish feast.

- With leaves.

- As soon as Dad and Larry get here.

- Yeah. Where are they, Mom?

- [squawks]

Not to be nosy,

but I saw Mr. Pteranodon and Mr. Lambeosaurus

get on the Rocket Train and then miss their stop here.

They're probably trying to catch another train back right now.

- Oh, there, see, Buddy?

They just got on the wrong train.

They'll be home soon, I'm sure!

- Oh, North Pole Station, huh?

Brr. Wow! Is it always this cold here?

- Pretty much.

Uh, hello? Anyone home?

- [squawks]

Oh, hello, Mr. Pteranodon,

Mr. Lambeosaurus. [laughs]

- Oh, thank goodness we found you.

We need to take the Dinosaur Train

back to Pteranodon Terrace in time for Winter Solstice!

- Oh, well, we've got another train in the roundhouse

for some routine maintenance.

Shouldn't take more than a few hours.

- A few hours?

Larry, I guess we're stuck at the North Pole

for a few hours.

- Yeah. And look, it's snowing.

Now it's snowing like crazy.

Is there a word for that?

- Yeah! It's called a blizzard.

- Oh, no, it's a blizzard!

Help! We gotta get warm!

Help!

[grunting]

The station must be closed. We're trapped out in the snow!

We're never gonna make it!

- Ha ha. This door's a push, right?

What are you doing out there in the cold, eh?

I mean, come on inside and get warm.

Well, why don't you sit here by the fire

and have a nice hot cocoa while we sing?

- ♪ It's the season ♪

♪ For train rides and snowin' ♪

♪ The reason everybody's goin' ♪

♪ To the great big dinosaur ♪

♪ Holiday in the snow ♪

♪ Ho ho ho ♪

- [sighs] I guess we're here for the night.

It's not so bad. Everything will work out fine.

- Well, we should be on our way in a few hours.

Meanwhile, you might as well enjoy your cocoa.

And sing!

- ♪ And tonight ♪

♪ The snowflakes ♪

♪ Are gently gonna fall ♪

- ♪ We'll dance together, we're gonna shake a feather ♪

♪ We're gonna have a ball ♪

♪ It'll be big fun ♪

♪ Our eyes will be glowin' ♪

♪ Come on, it's time to be goin' ♪

♪ To the great big dinosaur holiday ♪

♪ In the snow ♪

[all cheering]

- Hi, there, I'm Dr. Scott the paleontologist.

- It's Winter Solstice Day!

all: Solstice Day, ba-doom-bah!

Solstice Day, ba-doom-bah!

- Happy Winter Solstice, kids.

- Mom, is Dad here yet?

- Sorry, kids. Dad's not here...yet.

But I promise that he will be home for Winter Solstice.

Dad would never miss it!

- [snoring]

[distant train whistle] - Wha--wh--where am I?

I-is that a train?

North Pole. Still not home.

- Uhh! - Larry!

- [yawns] I was having such a wonderful dream.

I was at home, eating leaves...

- Better not have been my leaves.

[train brakes squeal]

I did hear a train! Come on!

- Happy Winter Solstice!

I got old engine number seven train running again.

She can be persnickety, but for now...

all aboard!

- [giggling] Winter Solstice leaves!

So good. Come on, Mr. Pteranodon.

Try some!

- I'm not hungry.

- What's wrong? - Well, nothing.

I'm just...thinking about my family, that's all.

- [mouth full] Mmm. Yeah. I miss my family too.

- I just can't wait to be in the comfort of my own nest,

surrounded by my wife,

Buddy, Tiny, Shiny, and D-- [Larry munching]

Would you stop chewing so loudly?

- That's how I chew!

I can't just start chewing all quiet!

- Hey, hey, hey, guys!

Where's your Winter Solstice spirit?

Come on!

Let's all get along and focus on our goal:

to get you two home!

- Mom, when will Dad be home?

- Very soon, Shiny.

He'll come flying in with some wild story

about what happened today.

And of course, he and Larry will have lots red platanoids.

- And then we'll decorate the big feast with them.

- Yay!

- Whoo-hoo! - Can't wait!

- Eoraptor Ravine Station,

in the Triassic Time Period!

End of the line!

- What? The Triassic?

Do you know how far from home we are?

- Mm-hmm. Over million years.

- Over million years!

- Huh! That's a lot of years.

[steam hisses]

- Oh...oh... that doesn't sound good.

I'd better take a look.

This could take a while! - A while?

How long's a while?

Oh, I am tired of waiting. We need a plan.

[slow rhythmic squeaking]

- Well, hello, Mr. Pteranodon.

I ain't seen you in a month of Sundays, don't ya know?

- Hi, Erma. Hey, you wouldn't happen to know

if there's a train coming around here anytime soon?

- Mm, I reckon I don't.

- We just need to figure out

some way to get to the next station.

- Well, if that's all you need to do...

[rapid rhythmic squeaking] [both panting]

- So...this is a hand-cart.

- [breathlessly] You're going too fast!

Ohh...now you're going too slow.

- Oh, so now you're an expert?

- Uh, guys, hello?

Remember our goal, huh? Get home to our families.

- Right. Right, right. - Yeah.

So, Mr. Seastar, how are the red platanoids doing?

Red and festive?

- Well, not so hot.

Kind of...wilty.

- Wilty? Oh, no!

We gotta get home!

- Pump faster! Pump faster!

[overlapping chatter]

- Hey, look, Mom.

I'm doing a Winter Solstice loop-de-loop.

Rawk!

- Good job, Don.

Oh!

Fish on your leaves.

That's not a big deal, is it?

- [sighs] Well, I picked these leaves out

especially for Larry.

And...he can't stand the taste of fish.

- Oh...well, maybe it's not that strong.

- Uh...

[gags]

I-I mean...well...

- Um...different plan.

Add berries.

[both panting]

- Faster, faster, faster!

Stop!

- Hello.

I'm Pauline Proganochelys,

a kind of Triassic...turtle.

- Hi, Pauline. Happy Winter Solstice.

Listen, we really need to get back to the Cretaceous.

Do you know when the next train is coming?

- Ooh, Cretaceous.

Wow...ha ha. That's far.

Ha ha...

Now, I do know that a train comes by here

when the sun is first in the sky...

- Is Pauline talking really slowly,

or am I hearing things really slowly?

- So a train may be coming soon?

- Yep. Maybe.

Is that one now?

- [cheers]

Tricia Troodon! Is it really you?

- Hi, Mr. P. Mr. Conductor told me

you three were having trouble getting home.

I'm here to help.

All aboard the Solar Train!

- Solar means it's powered by the sun, right?

- We'll tell you when we're on the train headed home!

Come on! - Okay!

[train whistle toots]

- So, as long as we have plenty of sunshine,

my solar train will run fine and fast and on time.

- Are those puffy things in the sky

ever a problem?

- You mean clouds?

Well, yes, if they block the sun,

it could present a challenge.

- You mean like that?

- Right. But no worries.

We have just enough power

to get to the Dinosaur Train Zeppelin Station.

- [chomps]

- Whew! From what I hear,

you gents have had quite a day!

- Two days! - Now all we have to do

is hop on the Zeppelin and get you home.

- May I help you, Sonny Boy?

- Hello, Thurston.

I'm here to fly these fine folks home

for Winter Solstice. - Ho ho ho, well, then.

Looks like it's not your lucky day.

This zeppelin is only for emergencies.

- But this is an emergency, Thurston!

- Oh, I don't think so.

- Thurston, please stop playing this game.

- I am not playing a game, Mr. Conductor.

My zeppelin is for emergencies--

- It's not your zeppelin. It's our zeppelin.

Take these gentlemen home! - No!

That Lambeosaurus is just going to make a huge mess

like he did on my Rocket Train!

- See? Even this is your fault!

- My fault? - Yes!

Everything has been your fault since the very beginning.

- Stop, stop, stop! Everyone stop fighting!

It's Winter Solstice, remember?

- [sighs] Oh, you're right.

Larry, ever since the day

you moved to Pteranodon Terrace,

I've been a buffoon.

- No, I was the buffoon, Mr. P.

I was pushy, I talked too much, I didn't listen.

I ate all the leaves off your trees...

- That's right! You did eat all my leaves.

- Guys!

[both sigh]

- I'm sorry. I don't want to argue anymore.

All I want is to get home.

I want to hug my kids and see their little faces

light up with joy when they put the platanoids on the table.

I love my Team Pteranodon.

I love Winter Solstice

and family and-- and good friends...

Larry.

- [sobs]

That's the true meaning of Winter Solstice.

I miss my family so much. I don't wanna let 'em down.

- You won't, Larry. I won't let you.

[both sobbing, muttering]

- I'm sorry, old pal.

Come on, bring it in!

[both sobbing, muttering]

- All right, gentlemen!

Now that we've got the true Solstice spirit,

let's fly this zeppelin thingy home!

both: All aboard!

- ♪ It's Solstice Day ♪

♪ And we're flying that zeppelin home ♪

♪ ♪

♪ Been around the world, but nevermore will roam ♪

♪ ♪

♪ Oh, it's the nicest feeling ♪

♪ I think I've ever known ♪

♪ ♪

♪ 'Cause it's Solstice time ♪

♪ And we're flying that zeppelin home! ♪

♪ ♪

- ♪ Our toes are tap-pelin' ♪

- ♪ Fingers snap-pelin' ♪

- ♪ Platanoid carryin' ♪

- ♪ Friends with Larryin' ♪

- ♪ Flyin' that zep-zep-zeppelin ♪

♪ Flyin' that zeppelin home! ♪

[laughter, whooping]

- [sighs] Well, the feast is ready.

We're all set.

So should we start?

- But...Dad!

- Oh, I know, honey. He'll be here.

Just later, I guess.

- Look, it's the... the...the whatchamacallit.

kids: The Dinosaur Train Zeppelin!

- It's a Winter Solstice miracle!

[all cheering]

- Oh! We made it.

I'm so sorry we're late.

- Let me guess-- you missed a train, argued,

ended up in the North Pole,

then the Triassic, more trains,

then the zeppelin home.

- We ended up under the sea too.

Oh, hey, I want everyone to meet Mr. Seastar.

He helped us a lot on our...trip.

- Hi, everyone!

all: Hi, Mr. Seastar!

- Ooh! And here's what started this whole thing off--

red platanoids!

all: Ew!

- Ooh. Uh, wait. I think there's one...

more! kids: Ooh!

- Larry, I'm so sorry, honey,

but something happened with your leaves today,

so you don't have anything to eat.

- Oh, I've been eyeing these red platanoids

the whole trip!

Mmm-mm-mm!

The wiltiness makes 'em extra tender.

- So we're near the Big Pond?

That's where my cousins are celebrating.

- You can see it from the top of the Solstice Tree.

I'll fly you up.

- Hey! I can see the Big Pond from here!

- A seastar on top of a Solstice tree--

what a great idea!

- Happy Winter Solstice, everyone!

all: [cheering] Happy Winter Solstice!

[song begins]

- ♪ Winter is here ♪

♪ The sun's hangin' low ♪

♪ It's chilling but thrilling to put on a show ♪
