05x10 - Chapter 42: The End

Post by bunniefuu »

[Lidia] Every story has an ending.

It may be a happy, sad, or bitter one...

It depends on how you look at it.

For me, Carmen's end
had been utterly unexpected.

Lidia, are you all right?

I knew Carmen was up to something,
but I didn't see it.

I could have prevented it.

Did we leave anyone behind?

No, everything turned out perfect.

Eva is waiting for us at the train station
to leave for France.

[Lidia] For a few precious seconds,
we felt free.

The end of our road was near,
and our suffering seemed to be over.

But escaping that prison
was just one more step...

[car honking]

...because in life,
every ending is a new beginning,

and if we wanted to start over,
we'd have to fight to the end...

[Pinillos] Come on, sh**t!

Get down!

-[g*nshots]
-[screaming]

-[Lidia] ...overcoming obstacles...
-Pablo, the boy!

-[g*nsh*t]
-...standing up to the enemy,

risking our lives for the ending
we believed we deserved.

Aim at the tires.

-We've run out of a*mo?

-[g*nsh*t]

[Lidia] A dignified ending, one for which
we were to suffer until our last breath.

She's been hit! Put her down!

-[doctor] Down, put her down.
-[Carlota] Carefully.

-[g*nshots continue]
-Calm down.

-[Óscar] What do we do?
-[doctor] Get me some morphine.

[Carlota] We don't have any.

[b*llet ricochets]

-I need to see if the b*llet is inside.
-How?

[doctor] Help her sit up.
It's still inside.

We must get it out,
but I can't do it like this.

We'll wait till we're at the station.

-No! The ship won't wait for us!
-Yes!

I don't want to be a burden.

Don't be crazy,
we're not leaving without you!

CHAPTER 42: THE END

There's the truck.

-[Dolores grunts]
-[shushes]

[Lidia] Good night, Detective.

Get out.

Put the g*ns down! Drop them!

Do as I say! It's an order!

[Lidia] Put your hands up!

Get on your knees. On your knees! Here.

Don't sh**t, please.
There will be no coming back from that.

Surely we can work out
some peaceful outcome for--

[Francisco] Peaceful?

[air leaking]

-You were out of a*mo.
-Not anymore.

-Thanks to you.
-[Lidia] You won't follow us anymore.

You can come out!

We found these ropes in the truck.

-I think they'll work.
-What for? What are you doing with that?

[Carlota] To prevent you
from sounding the alarm.

Where do we lock them?

[Lidia] Tie them up and get them
inside their car, quickly!

-Salvador, this is Francisco and Lidia.
-This is Genaro, the station guard.

-He'll help us leave unnoticed.
-First, there is an emergency.

We were followed.
One of the prisoners was sh*t.

-She's badly wounded.
-Let's go.

[Francisco] We have a doctor,
but we need someplace for the procedure.

Where can we find a safe place?

[Genaro] The old staff rest area.

This way.

[Dolores breathing heavily]

[doctor] Quickly. Put her on the bed.

Bring water and bandages.

Give it to me.

[Dolores coughing]

You must go now.

[Carlota] No,
we're not leaving without you.

[gasping]

I want my son...

to be free.

I only want to bid him farewell.

[Dolores groaning]

Martín.

My dear.

I love you, son. I love you.

Never forget that, okay, dear?

Mom...

You talked, son.

Listen to me.

You must be very strong.

Mom...

will always be with you.

Always.

[baby crying]

[Dolores groaning]

There, there.

[gasping] Knowing he's with you...

I go in peace.

Thank you for everything.

In the end... [laughs]

...I die free.

[sobbing softly]

[Camila] It pains my heart,
but we must go.

Dolores deserves to rest in peace.

I will make sure of it. You have my word.

But if you don't leave now,
you won't make it to the ship.

[Camila] He's right.

[Lidia] As I held Eva in my arms again,
I felt relief.

We could almost taste freedom,
and the end was very near,

but we had to keep a cool head,

because the lives of those women,
and our own,

depended on the feasibility of the plan.

Following Camila's instructions,
we'd get into the station.

We'd have to be very discreet.

We'd travel on a freight train.

It'd be a long, hard trip,
with very little space to move.

If everything went as planned,
we'd arrive at the city of Bordeaux,

and from there,
we'd get to the nearest port,

where a ship would provide us
with a new future.

-This is the train.
-We must hurry up.

Who is left?

They all went in.
What about the other cars?

Packed and ready.
Camila is keeping an eye out.

Wait! An order has been issued
to hold all the trains in the station.

-Why?
-I don't know.

I've radioed for information,
but they won't talk.

If they've found Pinillos,
we must be very careful.

They might be looking for us.

-We need to find out.
-I'll talk to the station manager.

-Let's go with him.
-I'll stay here.

We're going to tell Camila and the others.

Very well.

[man] As soon as the tracks are blocked,
we'll search the whole station.

[manager] I suggest you start
with the freight trains.

That's where stowaways generally hide.

That's what I thought.
Are there any trains heading abroad?

There's one, to Bordeaux.

[man] We'll start with that one
and work our way through the rest.

[manager] All right.
We'll go block the tracks.

We must warn everyone.
We can't let them find us.

What should we do?

While they search the train,
we can hide in another

and get out of the station. Right?

They're blocking the tracks,
you heard them.

How do we get them unblocked?

The switchman does it
from his post, but I don't know...

The plan was to leave discreetly,
without anyone noticing,

but now it's too late for that.

What you're suggesting is madness.

We've risked so much. We can't bail now.

It's our only chance.

We're in this together, right?

[Carlota] What other train can we use?

-What's going on?
-The police are here.

They're going to search the station,
starting with this train.

-My God...
-What are we going to do?

We have a plan.

This is the train bound for Bordeaux.

-Open the car.
-Do it.

It's clear. Let's go search the next one.

Let's go.

It's the train back there.

[Óscar] Come on.

When we're in the train,
we stay low and out of sight.

Come on.

[Marga] Go on.

-You're the switchman, right?
-Yes.

I don't want to hurt you,
so please, unblock track 11.

The inspector reported
a jailbreak at a camp in Aranjuez.

What I'm asking from you
is vitally important for many people.

-Unblock the tracks.
-I can't do it.

Unblock the tracks!

I can't do it.

[g*nsh*t]

-[pants] Everyone is on board.
-Good.

But we can't leave
while the tracks are still blocked.

Come on up.

Unblock them! Come on, hurry up!

Is it done? Can the train go now?

-We need to pull that lever, too.
-So?

-Come on, hurry up! Go!
-Calm down.

-It's this one.
-Pull it!

-Number 11.
-Pull it!

[both grunting]

Come on, Francisco, you've got to make it.

Now.

[Lidia] In everyone's life, there is
a moment that makes the difference,

and this was our moment.

[young Francisco] Hurry up! Run!
Give me the suitcase.

Francisco! Come!

A station, a train, and a run
that could decide our fate,

just as it happened so many years ago.

[man] Stop that train!

-Halt! Stop that train!
-Francisco!

At that moment, I felt
the beginning and the end of our story

-come together.
-[man] Stop! I'll sh**t!

[Lidia] Like an infinite loop.

As infinite as what Francisco and I
felt for each other.

-[man] Stop that train!
-[g*nsh*t]

-[Lidia] Francisco, hurry up! Come on up.
-[g*nsh*t]

I thought I was going to lose you.

-Now we're mere passengers.
-Yeah, we only need to look the part.

Martín, I know you're sad,

but I want you to know that...

your mom will always be with you.

[Óscar] Can you make paper birds, Martín?

My teacher taught me to do them
a long time ago.

Perhaps you want me to show you how.

-We'll need paper.
-I'll get it.

You look way better dressed like this.

I feel good
for the first time in a very long time,

and I won't ever give it up again.

I'm sorry, Carlota.

We won't need to hide anymore.

No.

[Pablo] I think...

this looks pretty good. [coos]

He looks so at peace.

[Pablo] He's a miracle.

He makes me dream.

-What do you dream about?
-A big house,

I don't mind where,
but it'll be for the three of us.

And one more thing:
it must only have one floor.

Right, Julito? If there are stairs,
since this guy is going to be restless,

he'll fall down the stairs. Oi!

I love you.

I love you, too.

[Lidia] Knowing that you may get
a happy ending fills you with hope.

All of a sudden,
this hope helps you overcome

all the blows you've sustained
along the way,

and you burst with joy,

living each instant
as if it were unique and unrepeatable.

Everyone inside that train

deserved an ending
befitting our epic story.

But it wasn't going to be that easy.

-What is this?
-Are we there yet?

-[Carlota] Why are we stopping?
-[Pablo] I don't know.

-[Marga] Can you see anything?
-[Carlota] It's a train stop.

Do you know what's going on?

They've found us. It's the police.

[officer] Get off the train!

Now!

If you don't make things difficult,
no one will get hurt.

They have Salvador. We're never
getting out of here without an engineer.

Last night, we were chatting in the cab.

I've always liked trains,
so I watched him drive.

Do you know how to start it?

I could try.

Did you not see
the barrier blocking the tracks?

It's operated from the building
where they took Salvador.

[officer] Attention! Pay attention!

We know you're fugitives
from the reeducation camp in Aranjuez.

You are under arrest!
I repeat, you are under arrest!

We've been ordered to detain you here
and wait for reinforcements

so you are taken back to prison.

Come down in an orderly manner,
one at a time.

If you comply, no one will get hurt.

But if you resist,
if you challenge our authority,

you will face the consequences.

You have five minutes to surrender,
not one more.

Camila, nobody gets off the train.

We started all this.

And we're going to finish it together.

We need to buy some time.

[Lidia] We'll turn ourselves in
as the leaders of the jailbreak.

What are you plotting?

We're going out alone,

no one else.

We'll try to negotiate or something.

Let's see, hold on a second.

Yes, we're making them
take us into the building

and, once inside,

-we'll lift the barrier.
-That's insane.

-There must be some other way to--
-Francisco.

Think about the children and the women.

Sure, and what's your solution?

Sacrificing yourselves? Is that the plan?

-It's no sacrifice, Pablo.
-Please...

[Marga] It's a good idea.

Everything will work out.

And Felipe will have the time
to start the train.

Then, we'll come back here
and we'll leave.

What if it doesn't work?

Listen...

I know it's difficult to understand,

but it's something we must do.

I won't be able to forgive myself.

[Sofía] But we can come down with you.

-We need you here.
-Also...

we've taken risks before
and it worked out well.

[Francisco] All right.

How do you plan
to get out from the building?

[Lidia] Do you still have
the first-aid kit?

Yes.

Don't worry about Martín.

We'll wait together for you to come back.

Look, Martín, this is for you.

Martín.

I hope when we get back,
you've made us a lot of paper birds.

If it takes me too long, ask for Leocadia.

She's raising a child
and she won't mind breastfeeding ours.

No.

No, Marga, I think that, for once,
