On the island of Sodor,

there are funny engines,

clever engines,

and even cheeky engines.

[laughs]

But once, there was

a naughty engine,

and some of the other engines

didn't like that very much.

[whistle toots]

All aboard for a big adventure!

[upbeat music]

- [engine] Hello!

[whistle blows]

- Ha!

-[Thomas]

Sonny's Second Chance.

[whistle blows]

[Gordon]

I don't believe it!

There's a thief on the railway.

- [gasps]

A thief!

- A thief?

Are you sure, Gordon?

- Of course I'm sure!

Sonny. And he's heading

this way!

Oh, the indignity!

- Sonny isn't a thief!

He might've been one once,

but he soon decided

not to be one anymore.

Now he wants to be

good and useful,

and he deserves

a second chance.

- Hmm.

Once a thief, always a thief.

- Oh, Gordon,

we all make mistakes!

- I don't!

[indistinct announcement]

[quirky music]

[whistle blows]

- Now, Sonny, as promised,

we might be able to allow you

to stay and work on Sodor,

but only if you prove yourself

to be a trustworthy

and useful engine.

- Aw, I will, gov.

Trustworthy and useful

are my middle names!

- Hmm. In that case,

I'd like you to deliver

these cars to the docks.

- No problem, sir!

[upbeat music]

[horn honking]

- [Salty] Ahoy, there!

[laughs]

- [whistle blows]

- What have we here?

A new engine?

- Yeah! Are you all right?

I'm--

[gasps]

[suspenseful music]

- [whistle blows]

-Watch out!

[cars crashing]

- Ooh!

What did you do that for?

Oh, it's you.

The thief!

I knew you'd be trouble.

- What? But I just took

the trouble to save you!

Oi, you up there.

You saw that, right?

- I--Uh--

- [gasps]

Ugh.

[whistle blows]

- Wait!

I saw it!

- [sad music]-

Oh.[upbeat music]

- Hey, Sonny!

[whistle toots]

Oh. Why the grumpy face?

- How can I be useful

if nobody trusts me?

The gov's never gonna

let me stay at this rate!

- Don't worry.

Soon, everyone will see you

for who you really are.

Just give it more time.

- Yeah, all right.

It sounds like a plan!

[Thomas]

But somebody else washatching a plan of their own.

- [devious laugh]

[horn blows]

Ah, Sonny, I presume.

- Yeah, that's right. Sonny.

You know, the dodgy one

who brought them--

- Oh-ho, you don't have

to explain to me.

I know how it feels

to be misjudged.

I bet you're so useful, you'd

even pull these cars for me.

- All right.

- [cheerful music]

[Thomas]

Sonny was happy to helpDiesel do all his jobs,because he wantedto be really usefuland stay on Sodor.

- [both cheering]

And it seemed like Diesel wasenjoying having a friend too.♪ ♪

- Thomas looks busy.

Let's give him an hand.

- No way! He'll only trick us

into doing all his work.

Besides, you've--

I mean, we've got another job

to take care of.

[devious laugh]

[Thomas] Oh, hey, Sonny!

- Oh. Hello, Thomas!

- Ooh, what's with

the new smiley face?

- I've got myself a new friend,

haven't I?

He's helping me

be really useful.

- New friend?

- Yeah! That diesel

called... Diesel.

- Diesel! Ohh.

[crash]

Be careful, Sonny.

Diesel can't always be trusted.

Oh, why don't you

help me instead?

- Maybe my friend Diesel

was right, and--

and you're gonna trick me.

[whistle blows]

[train engine chugging]

- Hi, Diesel.

How come you're here, and not

delivering the fish cars?

- I'm not delivering them!

I'm letting Sonny do it for me.

- But that's not fair!

You can't make Sonny

do your jobs.

- Why not?

It's not my fault he's silly

enough to do them for me!

- Aw! I don't understand you

sometimes.

[whistle toots]

- Nobody does.

[mischievous music]

- I thought you were

my friend.

- [gasps]

[nervous laugh]

listened to Thomas.

- Sonny! Wait!

- [switcher clicks]

[screams]

[crashing]

- [gasps]

- [urgent music]

- Help!

- Hang on!

Whoa!

[crashing]

- [screaming]

[metal clanking]

- [straining sounds]

- Sonny! Y-Y-You came back!

- Of course!

- Oh, thank you! I--

I didn't deserve that.

- Nope. Probably not.

Consider it a second chance.

[horn honks]

- What's going on here?!

And what are those fish

doing on the tracks?

- Sorry, gov.

It's my fault.

I wasn't thinking

about them fish.

- Oh. Well, you've had

your chance, Sonny,

and I did say you'd have

to leave if you didn't do--

- No! Don't send him away, sir!

It wasn't his fault.

He saved me.

- Is this true?

- Well, yeah. But--

- I see.

Well, if there's one thing

more important

than being really useful,

it's looking after

your fellow engines.

And you, Sonny, have proved you

are reliable and trustworthy.

- Aww.

- Hey! Here he is!

[gasps]

We heard about

your heroics, Sonny!

- Yes, impressive.

Unexpected,

but impressive nonetheless.

- Salty told me

you rescued James

from a messy situation too!

- [nervous laugh]

I'm sure Sonny doesn't

want us embarrassing him,

but, uh, sorry I said you were

nothing but trouble.

- Don't worry, James.

We all make mistakes, don't we?

Maybe you just need

a second chance.

[both laugh]

- Have you ever

misjudged somebody?

[steam whooshing]

Once, in India,I couldn't understand howelephants could be usefulfor anything other than,well, being elephants!But when an elephantcame to my rescue,I realized I was wrong.Elephants could bevery helpful indeed.At first, lots ofthe other enginesthought Sonny wasnot to be trusted,because of somethinghe'd done before.But when he saved Diesel,they all saw that Sonnywas a kind and useful engine.He just neededa second chance.

It takes time to understand

others properly,

but it's always worth

taking that time

to get to know them better.
