The railway on Sodor

is built for steam engines

and diesel engines.

So when Kenji

the electric engine

wanted to be really useful,

we had to find

a special way to do it.

Your technology

- Do you think

Stafford is battery powered.

And he can shunt cars

in the yard.

- You could be really useful,

just like him.

- [laughs] Great!

So we went to seeSir Topham Hattto find out if there were anyjobs for us to do.♪ ♪

Well, I think it's marvelous

you want to be really useful

on my railway, Kenji.

There are so many jobs

you can help us with.

- So first, we went to collectsome cars from the docks.

It's great to be really useful,

even when you're not being

the fastest engine

in the world.

I was so happy that Kenji wasenjoying his time on Sodor.

- This is great, Thomas!

I've only ever taken passengers

before.

[horn honks]

♪ ♪- But then, a few days later,Sir Topham Hatt had some news.

- Ah, Kenji. [chuckles]

I'm glad I caught you.

I've just heard word

that a ship is leaving

for Japan tomorrow morning.

I suggest you make sure you're

ready and waiting at the docks.

- Oh, can I go with him, sir?

- Oh, good idea, Thomas.

[chuckles] And make sure

he doesn't miss it.

[laughs] Goodness knows

when the next ship will be.

[both giggle]

- So will you be traveling back

to Japan with me, Thomas?

- Japan?

[laughing] No.

I have to stay here.

Too much to do.

- Oh, dear.

Does that mean I'll be

on the boat all on my own?

- Yes.

That'll be fun.

Oh, I remember the time I went

all the way to China on my own.

The boat was really big,

and the sea was the most

beautiful blue.

Before I knew it,

I was pulling into

Shanghai Harbor.

- [Percy] Who are you talking

to, Thomas?

[surprised music]

- Kenji.

Kenji?!

[brakes squeak]

Oh, no.

Where's he gone?

I need to find him quickly,

or he'll miss his ship home.

[whistle toots]

[plodding music]I was concernedthat Kenji was lost.

♪ ♪Soon, it was getting dark,and I was getting moreand more worried,more and more desperate.

Kenji! Where are you?

And the next thing I knew...

[horn blares]

[gasps] It's morning! Oh!

Oh! [groans]

[foghorn blasts]

[gasps] Oh, no!

[whistle toots]

Oh! The ship's arrived!

And I still

haven't found Kenji.

- [engine]

Konnichiwa,

Thomas!

- [gasps] Kenji?

[whistle toots]

Ah! [laughs]

Oh.

I thought you were

my new friend Kenji.

I can't find him,

and he's supposed to be going

home on that ship to Japan.

- Oh. [chuckles]

Another engine from Japan,

like me?

Well, I remember when I broke

down in the Whistling Woods.

It took a long time

for anyone to find me.

- The Whistling Woods!

I haven't looked there.

- Then

we should look there next.

- Thanks, Hiro.

[whistle toots]

[quirky music]♪ ♪

- Oh! It looks like someone

might have come this way.

♪ ♪

- [gasps]

Kenji!

Oh, what happened to you?

One minute,

you were right behind me,

then you were gone.

Did you get lost?

- I was so worried about

traveling all the way to Japan

on my own.

I really don't want

to go, Thomas.

- Oh.

- I can travel with you.

- [gasps] You could?

- Hiro, what are you saying?

- I miss Japan, Thomas.

In fact, I've been missing it

for a while now.

- But what about all

your friends on Sodor?

- They will always

be my friends.

But now, it's time

for me to go home.

- It would be nice

to have company.

[uplifting music]

- Come on, then!

We need to get to the docks.

The ship to Japan

is about to leave.

When Percy's carsran into the mine,he was too afraidto go in after them.But when he thoughtof his friend Gator,it made him brave enoughto do it.♪ ♪Kenji was scared to travelback to Japan on his own.So he tried to hide.♪ ♪But he felt so much betterwhen Hiro offeredto travel with him.♪ ♪

Sometimes we feel brave enough

to do things on our own.

But other times, it's okay

to ask for a helping hand.
