SOFIA: I was a girl
in the village, doing all right

Then I became a princess overnight

Now I gotta figure out
how to do it right

So much to learn and see

Up in the castle with my new family

In a school that's just for royalty

A whole enchanted world
is waiting for me

I'm so excited to be

CHORUS: Sofia the First

SOFIA: I'm finding out
what being royal's all about

CHORUS: Sofia the First

SOFIA: Making my way
it's an adventure every day

CHORUS: Sofia
SOFIA: It's gonna be my time

CHORUS: Sofia

SOFIA: To show them all that I'm

ALL: Sofia the First

[SOFIA READING]

I want to thank you all so much
for coming to my going-away lunch.

Of course, Hildegard.

And I especially want to thank Clio
for planning the lunch.

Thank you for asking me to plan it.

Why are you having a going-away party

when you're only going
on vacation for a week?

A week is a really
long time to be away from my friends,

and for them to be away from me.

A really long time.

Desmond, a going-away present.

How thoughtful.

Put this with the others, Clio.

Sure thing, Hildy.

[FANFARE PLAYING]

Oh, time to go.

I'm going to miss you.

Oh, Clio, of course you will.
But I'll be back before you know it.

Clio, are you okay?

I'm not sure where to sit.
I usually sit with Hildegard.

-You can sit with me.
-Oh, thanks.

It must be hard
having your best friend gone.

It is. We do everything together.

Hello, Polly!

That is what we call a big entrance.

How do I know?

Because I'm your new theater teacher,

Miss Elodie!

And you're gonna learn
all about entrances, exits,

and everything in between,

because we're puttin' on a play!

Hello Polly is a musical
about a young parrot searching for

her runaway sister.

Now, who would like to be in this play
about a parrot on a mission of love?

[ALL EXCLAIMING]

Wonderful.

Tryouts will be Friday morning
right here on this very stage.

To try out, you must perform
a song from the play.

And for those of you
who don't want to be in the play,

you can help put on the play.

We need someone to be
in charge of costumes.

-Oh, my specialty.
-MISS ELODIE: Excellent!

-Background painting?
-Ooh, me, me.

MISS ELODIE: Fabulous!

-Stage effects?
-What are stage effects?

Things like making
the actors fly like birds,

creating jungle mist,
giving the illusion of fiery torches.

I love making stuff explode.

Oh, no explosions, I'm afraid.

Maybe next play. [GIGGLES]

But for now, stick with
what's on my list.

Okay. You got it.

I've never been in a play before.

I hope I do okay in the tryouts.

If you wanna come over after school,

I could help you pick
a song and practice it.

-Really?
-Sure.

Since Hildegard is gone,
I have a lot of free time.

Thank you, Clio.

So if I were you,
I'd sing Wings of A Dream

or First Flight for the tryouts,

because those two songs
would really show off your voice.

I like the words to First Flight.
I think I'll do that one.

SOFIA: Wow! Look at all these hats.

-What? You don't like them?
-No, they're great.

I've just never seen
you wear any of them.

Oh. That's because Hildegard
doesn't think they look good on me.

-And you like plays?
-I love them.

My parents take me to the theater
whenever there's a new show.

Musicals are my favorite.

Why don't you try out
for the school play?

Oh, no, I couldn't do that.
Uh, ready to start practicing?

[CLEARS THROAT]
I guess I'm a little hoarse.

-I'll get you some water.
-That's okay. Thanks.

-I can get it.
-Okay.

I'm a bird who never leaves the nest

I don't take risks

I hide behind the rest

Don't stop. You have an amazing voice.

-Keep going.
-Okay.

I'm a bird who never leaves the nest

I don't take risks

I hide behind the rest

But now my big sister's
flown her perch

And it's up to me to search

So

I'm takin' my first flight

I'm gonna leave tonight

And who knows what I'll find

When I leave my fears behind

I'm gonna spread my wings

Face what my journey brings

To end my sister's plight

I'm taking my first flight

So let the sun b*at down

Let the sun b*at down

And let the thunder crash

And let the thunder crash

'Cause I won't be afraid

I won't be afraid

Gonna fly like a flash

I'm taking my first flight

I'm gonna leave tonight

And who knows what I'll find

When I leave my fears behind

PRINCESS CLIO: I'm gonna
spread my wings

SOFIA: Face what my journey brings

To end my sister's plight

I'm taking my first flight

I've overcome my fright

It's gonna be all right

Searching with all my might

I'm taking my first flight

Clio, you've got to
try out for the play.

I'd really like to, Sofia,
but I can't.

-Why not?
-Because Hildy doesn't like plays.

So?

Well, if Hildy doesn't like something,
I don't do it.

-Because?
-Because we do everything together.

-As long as Hildy wants to do it.
-Exactly.

Well, maybe it's time
you did something you want to do.

I mean, just because
she's your best friend

doesn't mean you have
to do everything she wants.

I think if you want
to try out for the play,

or wear one of your hats,

you should do it,
whether Hildy likes it or not.

[SIGHS]

[PRINCE JAMES STRAINING]

All right, Rex, here we go.

If this harness works,

I'll be able to make
the actors fly like real parrots.

[GROWLING]

Time to go for a ride.

[REX WHIMPERS]

Whoa!

Oops.

-What was that?
-Oh. Hey, Dad.

I was testing out a flying harness
for the Royal Prep play.

I'm in charge of stage effects.

Yes, I see that.

Perhaps we should get
Cedric to help out.

The magical effects will be
even more spectacular.

[CHUCKLES] And safer.

-Brilliant idea, Dad.
-Cedric!

Oh, Your Majesty.
Whatever can I do for you?

Conjure up magical creatures?
Prepare powerful potions?

Dazzle you with mystical illusions?

I'd like you to help James with
the stage effects for his school play.

His school play?

Surely you can handle that.

Oh, of course.

Children's theater is what I live for.

All right, Cedric. Let's do it.

-Hi, Sofia.
-Hi, Clio.

-Hey, I like the hat.
-Thanks. It's my favorite.

I'm glad you're wearing what you like.

Me, too.

Does this mean you're
going to try out for the play?

No, I can't do that.
Wearing a hat today is one thing.

But Hildegard will be here
when the play is happening.

Here's the list of all the effects
Miss Elodie wants for the show.

-There's a list?
-Yep.

Come, come, come.
Let's just get through it quickly

so I can get this lowly task over with
as soon as possible.

The first thing we need
is something to make

the actors fly around the stage
like real parrots.

Fine. I'll make some magical wings.

Parrotis-tropicus-flyicus.

Oh, I'm flying!

-Whoa!
-[KIDS EXCLAIMING]

Oh, you like that trick?

That's the best trick
I've seen all year.

Oh. Well, thank you. [CHUCKLES]

So what's next on that list?

Hi, Amber.
How are the costumes coming along?

They'll be fabulous when
I find what I'm looking for.

-I'll help you.
-Great.

Grab anything you think
will look good on a parrot.

Okay.

So, Clio wants to
try out for the play.

But she won't do it because
Hildegard isn't doing it, right?

Yes. How did you know?

She follows Hildy around.
Does whatever Hildy does. Oh, perfect.

Well, I'm trying to figure out
how to get Clio

to try out for the play.
Do you have any ideas?

Hmm. If Miss Elodie heard Clio sing,

maybe she would make Clio try out.

-She seems very persuasive.
-That's a good idea.

If you can get Clio
to sing in front of her.

Well, sidekicks like to help, right?

So if I ask Clio to help me sing
in front of Miss Elodie...

You'll get her to sing
without her even knowing it.

Exactly.

CEDRIC: Floating birdcage, done.

Now, children,
what's next on this list, hmm?

Oh, we need a gust of wind, yes?

Well, I can do far better
than a mere gust.

Windious-huffious-puffious!

[KIDS LAUGHING]

Cool!

Oh, thank you.

It does feel so good
to finally be appreciated.

MISS ELODIE: What is all the noise?

Excuse me, but what's
all the hubbub back here?

It's wind for the scene where
Polly gets stuck in a storm.

You look a little old to be a student.

I am not a student.

I am Cedric the Sensational!

I'm a sorcerer.

He's helping me with
the stage effects. Isn't that great?

I suppose a little
abracadabra couldn't hurt.

Just remember, Mr. Sensational,

stick to the effects
on my list. Thank you.

I want to practice my song on stage.
Do you mind helping me?

-I'd love to.
-Great.

Ugh. I forgot the melody.

Could you maybe sing
the first few lines for me?

Oh, sure.

I'm a bird who never leaves the nest

I don't take risks

I hide behind the rest

[GASPS] You have the voice
of a pitch-perfect parrot.

-I do?
-You do!

And I can't wait to hear you

sing your little wings off
at tryouts tomorrow.

Princess...

Clio. But, um, I won't be trying out.

But you must!

A voice like yours
is a bird in a cage,

yearning to be set free.

Open the cage door, Princess Clio.

Spread your vocal wings.

Set your little voice free!

[SIGHS] Okay. I'm going to do it.

Oh, happy day!

I'll see you tomorrow after school,
right on this very stage.

Ta-ta, darling.

Clio, you look great.

Thanks. I thought I'd dress up
for the tryouts.

So what song are you going to do?

Wings of A Dream.
I practiced it all night.

PRINCESS HILDEGARD: Clio!

What are you doing here?

There was a sudden
warm spell in North Freezenberg,

so we came home early.

[GASPS] Why are you wearing that hat?

-You know I don't like it.
-I forgot.

I can't wait to show you
all my travel paintings.

Here, hold this.

Um, I can't right now.

What do you mean? Why not?

Sofia and I are, uh...

We're trying out for the school play.

Without me?
You can't be in a play without me.

We're best friends.
We do everything together.

You guys can still be best friends

even if Clio does
some things on her own.

But it will take weeks
to rehearse and perform a play.

Who will pour the tea
at my tea parties,

and do my homework,

and look at all
the travel paintings from my trip?

I think I can do all those things
and still be in a play.

[SCOFFS] Impossible.
You have to choose.

The play or me.

But you shouldn't have to choose.

Sofia, this is between me and Clio.

Okay, let's look at
your travel paintings.

Thank you. Now, come on.

I can't wait to tell my best friend
all about my vacation.

High marks for originality.

Now, who's next to try out?

We did the wings, the bird feeder,
the wind, the lights.

That's everything on the list.
We're finished.

Nonsense. We can't stop now.

This is the best
sorcery I've ever done.

But what else can we do?

Hmm. Well, this play takes place
in a tropical jungle, yes?

So I shall conjure
a jungle that magically grows

right before the audience's eyes.

Their amazed, adoring eyes.

Brilliant. Can we add monkeys?

Of course. You can't have
a jungle without monkeys.

Jungle-bungle-primungle!

PRINCE JAMES: Whoa!

And the carpet keeps on flying

[EXCLAIMS]

What? What? What is going on?

[GASPS] Where did all
these monkeys come from?

Oh, no.

BOY: Look out!

-[THUD]
-MISS ELODIE: The backdrop!

[MONKEYS SCREECHING]

Prince James, Cedric,

there are no jungles
or monkeys on my list.

Well, I know that.

But how can I show the crowd
how magnificent my sorcery is

with just the few things on that list?

Yeah.

Oh, I do love your enthusiasm,
but you cannot get carried away

getting all these things
we do not need.

Why not simply make the things we need
as great as you can?

Then everyone will see
your talents shining through.

-[MONKEY SCREECHING]
-[CRASH]

And no one will get hurt.

Sound like a plan? Great.

So you can begin by
removing your jungle.

-And your monkeys.
-[SNAPS FINGERS]

Before they chew up all the scenery.

All right. I suppose we could do that.

Have either of you seen Amber?

I think she's in the dressing room.

Thanks. [GASPS]

Amber? Amber!

Over here, Sofia.

Hildegard's back.

And she talked Clio out
of auditioning for the play, right?

Yes. And now I don't know what to do.

Oh, Sofia, it's easy.

Find a way to get
Hildegard into the theater,

-and Clio will follow.
-Right.

But how are we going
to get Hildegard here

before tryouts are over?
We don't have much time.

Hmm. There has to be some way.

I know. We need a new backdrop.

So?

That's how we can get
Hildegard to the theater.

Okay, here's the plan.

Then we hiked all the way
up the tallest mountain

-in Freezenberg...
-Oh, Hildy.

We need you in the theater right away.

-Why?
-The backdrop for the play broke,

and Sofia told me about your
amazing travel paintings.

So I suggested we use your paintings
as backdrops for the play.

[GASPS] My paintings?

Yes. So let's see
how they look on stage.

-Come on.
-Okay.

-Clio, let's go.
-Coming.

To end my sister's plight

I'm taking my first flight

Excellent effort. Thank you.

Well, guess that's everyone.

[WHISPERING] Where's Clio?
Wait. I'm not done yet.

That was just
the first part of my tryout.

Here's the second.

The itsy-bitsy spider
went up the water spout

Down came the rain
and washed the spider out

Oh, what a lovely rendition
of a classic tune.

Now I really have seen all I need.

Out came the sun
and dried up all the rain

So the itsy-bitsy spider
went up the spout again

[HOLDING NOTE]

[GASPS] Okay, I'm done.

But look.
Princess Clio's here to try out.

Oh, happy day.

No, no, no. She's not here
to try out, Miss Elodie.

She's with me.

I'm with her.

And I've got the paintings
for the backdrop.

You are adorable, but I have no idea
what you are talking about.

Clio, you must try out. You must!

This was all a trick to get
Clio back here, wasn't it?

-Maybe.
-Hmm! Come on, Clio.

Wait. Clio, you were
so excited about this play

because singing and dancing
makes you happy,

and you're really good at it.

So it doesn't matter
who else is doing it.

You can make your own choice.

No, she can't. Let's go, Clio.

Clio.

-I'm not going.
-What?

I'm trying out for the play.

-No, you're not.
-Yes, I am.

But we always do everything together.

That's because I always do
everything you want to do,

and now I want to do my own thing.

And I don't think
I should have to choose

between being your friend
and doing something I love.

Well, it looks like you just did.

Uh, excuse me. Uh, Hildy!

Are you all right?

I wish it didn't have to be like this,
but I'll be okay.

Princess Clio, are you ready?

Yes. [EXHALES] I'm ready.

-Hildy, wait.
-What do you want now?

I'm sorry I tricked you, all right,
but I had to do it.

-[HUFFS]
-Come on, Hildegard.

Are you really not gonna
be friends with Clio anymore?

It was her choice, not mine.

It's you who has
to make a choice, Hildy.

What's more important?

Having everything your way,
or having a best friend?

I'm going to be singing
Wings of A Dream.

[MUSIC STARTS]

I flew through rain and snow

Strange lands I did not know

Through midnight woods and hills

I've had my share of spills

-Enough!
-[STOPS SINGING]

MISS ELODIE: I have found my lead.

Princess Clio, you are Polly.

I'm Polly?
I got the lead! I got the lead!

Congratulations, Clio.
You deserve it. You really do.

Thank you.

[APPLAUSE]

On these wings of a dream

I will face my fear

On these wings of a dream

For my sister dear

On these wings of a dream

Through any weather

We'll soon be together

These are really impressive effects
for children's theater.

I used to be afraid

But now I won't be swayed

There is no storm too strong

To stop this parrot's song

Oh, what's that up ahead?

With feathers blue and red

Who is that bird I see?

Could it finally be

-Molly!
-Polly?

I can't believe you found me.

-Will you come home?
-Yes, yes, yes!

On these wings of a dream

At last I'm here

On these wings of a dream

With my sister dear

On these wings of a dream

We'll be together

Sisters forever

On these wings of a dream

On these wings of a dream

On these wings of a dream

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

Fabulous work, everyone.
Clio, what a performance!

Thank you, Miss Elodie. [GASPS]

Hildegard?

-You came.
-You were great, Clio.

-I have such a talented best friend.
-Thank you.

-Clio, I've missed you.
-I've missed you, too.

And I was thinking.

We don't always
have to do what I want.

We can do what you want.
I just wanna be friends again.

Then let's be friends
who don't tell each other what to do.

Okay.

Thank you. Oh, thank you,
thank you, thank you!
