SOFIA: I was the girl
in the village, doing all right

Then I became a princess overnight

Now I gotta figure out
how to do it right

So much to learn and see

Up in the castle with my new family

In a school that's just for royalty

A whole enchanted world
is waiting for me

I'm so excited to be

CHORUS: Sofia the First

SOFIA: I'm finding out
what being royal's all about

CHORUS: Sofia the First

SOFIA: Making my way
it's an adventure every day

CHORUS: Sofia
SOFIA: It's gonna be my time

CHORUS: Sofia

SOFIA: To show them all that I'm

ALL: Sofia the First

[SOFIA READING]

SIR FINNEGAN: Are you ready?

And...

-Commence!
-Hee-yah!

[HORSE NEIGHING]

-Go, James!
-QUEEN MIRANDA: You can do it!

PRINCE JAMES: If I keep up this pace,

it'll be my best time yet.

James is off to a good start.

He's been practicing
for this test day and night.

Well, if he keeps up this pace,
he's certain to pass it,

and be promoted to Junior Knight.

-Whoa.
-[NEIGHS]

-Bull's-eye!
-What a sh*t!

Ah... the ladder?

No, this is faster.

[PANTS AND GRUNTS]

[SQUELCHING]

Yuck!

That can't be good.

Can't... slow down.

[STRAINING]

And done.

I'm sorry, Prince James.

The time has run out.

I'm afraid you have failed
the Junior Knights test.

But, Sir Finnegan, I wasn't expecting
to get stuck in that mud.

You should never just jump over a wall

without knowing
what's on the other side.

The ladder would've been
the wiser choice.

You know how the old saying goes,

"Look before you leap."

[SIGHS] I know
you're disappointed, James.

But you did well for your first try.

And you can always
take the test again.

Until then, practice.

And not just on the training field,

try your skills out in the real world.

Go on an adventure.

That's where you'll learn
the most valuable lessons.

Poor James.

Don't worry.

He'll come back
all the stronger for it.

I should know,

I failed my first try
at the Junior Knights test as well.

-[AMULET CHIMING]
-Oh!

SOFIA: "Tale of the Eternal Torch."

BOOK NARRATOR: To the dragons
who live on the Blazing Palisades,

their island home is a fiery paradise.

Inside the tallest peak,

the Eternal Torch
burns with a magical flame

that lights all the island's fires.

But the Eternal Torch is in danger.

The sea monsters who live in the ocean
that surrounds the Palisades

believe the Palisades
should belong to them,

and now,
the sea monsters have obtained

the powerful Forever Fountain,

whose magical waters
could drown out the island's fires

and chase the dragons away.

If they are not stopped,

the Blazing Palisades
will belong to the sea monsters

forevermore.

I have to go to the Blazing Palisades
and give this story a happy ending.

We'll have to hurry to get there
in time to help the dragons.

Dragons?

Hope you're up for a little adventure.

I'll go get you a snack.

Adventure? This is just
what I've been waiting for.

Here you go, buddy. One for the road.

[WHINNIES]

Okay. Time to fly.

Yah!

[PRINCE JAMES GRUNTING AND GROANING]

[NEIGHING]

James, what are you doing here?

Sir Finnegan said to practice
my knight skills on an adventure.

I don't know what you're up to,
but sounds perfect.

So you just stowed away?

I'll be a big help. You'll see.

Whoa! Look at this place.

If I were a dragon,
this is where I'd want to live.

But I don't think
those are dragons, are they?

Those are sea monsters.

Dragons and sea monsters?

Oh, this is getting
better by the minute.

And more dangerous.

I have to warn the dragons
about the sea monsters.

-I can help you.
-Oh, I guess it's too late

-to take you back now.
-Yes!

[GROANS] What a blazing eyesore.

Well, it's nothing
a good drenching won't fix.

Get a wiggle on, girls.

Keep up with me.

I want to make a splashy entrance.

[EXCLAIMING]

Sorry, Aqualina.

I've never been
out of the water before.

-Me neither.
-[BOTH EXCLAIMING]

I feel so heavy.

You are heavy. Get off of me!

Oh, come on, girls.

What happened to my smooth-moving,
sweet-singing monsters?

[SINGING] We are monsters of the sea

And our sound will set you free

Oh, free

Oh, that's more like it.

Now, let's chase away those dragons

and this island will be ours at last.

Spread out and look for a trail
that will get us up to that peak.

Hmm. For invaders,
they look kinda confused.

Good. It'll give us time
to get to Everburn, the elder dragon,

and warn him.

How do we get to him?

That trail leads to Everburn's cave,

which is up at the top
of the Palisades,

near the Eternal Torch.

Right. Let's go.

Hold on, James.

We can't just run out there.

They'll see us.

We should hide here
until the coast is clear.

Well, I'm here
to practice my knight skills,

and you said the torch is that way.

So come on, Sofia.
Let's get to the top.

That's not a dragon.

No. It's just a boy.

But he says
that's the trail to the top.

Ha ha, we found it!

What a stroke of luck.

-Thanks, kid.
-I'll say.

Thanks, kid.

Uh-oh. Hold it right there.

I said go back to...

James, watch out!

Ha ha, now we're getting somewhere.

The Blazing Palisades
won't be blazing much longer.

PRINCE JAMES: Whew!

Thanks. They almost pancaked me.

[SIGHS] And you showed them the trail
that leads right to the Eternal Torch.

Hey, I recognize that voice.

[SINGING] Hello

Hello

Hello

Hello, Princess Sofia.

Did you come back to hear our encore?

And look, she's brought someone

who hasn't experienced
the sizzling sounds of...

[SINGING] Smoke, Wings, and Fire

Um, it's great to see you again,

but there's no time for singing.

This is an emergency.

Sea monsters are going
to replace the Eternal Torch

with a magic fountain.

There will be water
everywhere instead of fire,

and you won't be able
to live here anymore.

Sea serpents?

[GROANS] Sounds like Aqualina again.

You guys have to help me
get to Everburn and warn him.

You know, there is one thing
we can try first.

There's a bridge on that trail
that the serpents will have to cross.

We can take the underground tunnels
and get there just ahead of them.

Hey, yeah.
Then we can melt the bridge,

and they'll be stuck.

That's a great idea.

But a knight doesn't sneak around
through underground tunnels.

It'll be way faster,
and more knight-like,

if you fly me to the bridge.

-Come on.
-Good idea, kid. Let's go.

-Hold on, fellas.
-There he goes again.

Smokelee gets so caught up
in the heat of the moment

he does things
without thinking them through.

[GROANS] So does James.

The one thing you should never do
is fly over sea monsters.

Look. There they are.
Come on, go, go! Go!

Turn back now, you slimy serpents.

You're not getting any further.

Do they really think they can stop us?

Ha ha. Knock them
out of the sky, girls.

PRINCE JAMES: Whoa!

Are you all right?

I'm okay.

Don't look now.

The sea serpents
are already across the bridge.

James, now we missed our chance

to stop the sea monsters
at the bridge.

I didn't know they could sh**t water.

I tried to warn you,

but you rushed off
before I could say anything.

And you should've
known better, mister.

Those serpents are crawling along
pretty slowly on land.

We still have time
to get ahead of them

and warn Everburn
if we go underground,

but we'll have to move fast.

[SNORING]

Um... Mr. Everburn.

Wake up.

-Wake up!
-[SNORTS] What...

It's an emergency. A huge one.

[STEAM SIZZLING]

Sofia, is that you, kiddo?

Yes, and this is my brother James.

Pleasure's mine.

So what's with all the commotion?

Sea monsters are invading.

-Oh, it's always something.
-[BACK CRACKING]

It's that water-logged
sea serpent Aqualina.

We've been feuding with the serpents
for as long as I can remember.

Now she wants to replace
the Eternal Torch

with a magic fountain,

and flood the Blazing Palisades.

Well, we'll see about that.

Ready to give 'em
a warm welcome, boys?

Isn't there any way
you can settle this peacefully?

Those serpents are trying
to take away our home.

What, you want I should
put out a welcome mat for them?

If there's trouble,
you can count on me.

I'm training to be a Junior Knight.

Listen, Junior, thank you so much

sincerely from the bottom of my heart.

But I want you two
out of harm's way over there.

Keep watch, okay?

But I want to help.

Kid, when you're the elder dragon,
you can make the decisions, okay?

But for now,
you're gonna go, sit, watch.

Everburn.

I was wondering
if you'd dare show your scaly hide.

Oh, go soak your head.

And while you're at it,
get off our island.

Boys, let's give 'em a warm send-off.

[SINGING] This tiny isle

In the ocean wide

Should be monster kissed

And not dragon fried

So you better split

Or step aside

My claim to this rock is bona-fide

That means it's real

There's water in the rain

Like there's water in the sea

Big blue

And that water will cause a flood

That'll wash you away from me

You're through

If you know what's good for you now

You won't make any fuss

Go take your final bow

'Cause this island belongs to us

Yeah, take your final bow

'Cause this island belongs to us

Now shoo!

[LAUGHING] Tell her, Flambeau!

-This rock's our home
-So get off our porch

-We belong right here
-With the Eternal Torch

-All your little plans
-We're about to scorch

You'll turn into steam
in our fiery forge

That almost rhymes

Like the fire on the cliff

Like the fire in the sun

Big heat

There's a fire in my mouth

-That'll put you on the run
-Retreat

If you know what's good for you now

There's nothing to discuss

So take your final bow

'Cause this island belongs to us

Yeah, take your final bow

'Cause this island belongs to us

You're b*at

All this singing
is getting them nowhere.

Ugh... This could go on forever.

There's gotta be a better way
to give this story a happy ending.

You're b*at

If you know what's good for you now

You won't make any fuss

I'm just warmin' up my snout

Ha! We're gonna put your fire out

Oh, yeah

So take your final bow

'Cause this island belongs

-To us
-To us

Belongs to us

Ugh... This is gettin' us
exactly nowhere.

We can't stay here
and block them off forever.

Right. But maybe something else can.

Pick up the kiddos and follow me.

This should stop those slimy eels
in their slippery tracks.

Everburn keeps putting us
on the sidelines.

A knight doesn't sit on the sidelines.

He asked us to keep watch.

Anyone can keep watch.

I'm training to be a knight.

I've gotta get in on the action.

Hey, this big rock
would block the trail

better than a bunch of small ones.

It'd be like a wall in itself.

James, no.

The dragons want to
handle this themselves.

-[GRUNTS] I just...
-Wait.

-...have to get it...
-James, stop.

...moving.

Oh, no!

Oh, look at them fly.

And I didn't even have to lift a claw.

There's nothing to stop them now.

So, this is the famous Eternal Torch.

The dragons believe it will burn
until the end of time.

Well, they're in for a big surprise.

-[GASPS] The fire.
-It's gone!

Let the magic waters
of the Forever Fountain flow,

and turn the Blazing Palisades
into the Watery Palisades.

[DRAGONS EXCLAIMING]

[BOTH EXCLAIMING]

Oh, no. The island's flooded
and you guys are soaked.

We're half-drowned
is what we are, Sof.

Our magic fire is kaput.

Our beautiful home is lost forever.

There's gotta be something I can do
to make things right.

I'm going up there right now.

Wait a minute, James.

Remember that old saying
Sir Finnegan told you

-after your test?
-Uh, look before you leap?

Right. Well, ever since you got here,

you've been rushing into things
without thinking them through first.

Don't you see?

-That's what gotten us into trouble.
-[SIGHS]

We can still help the dragons.

But we shouldn't just charge ahead.
We need a plan.

Hmm. Okay.

Um... well, how about this?

If we put the torch back,
the fires would start again.

That would give
the dragons a fighting chance.

But how do we get past
the sea monsters?

Didn't Aqualina say she wouldn't rest
until all the fires were out?

Yeah.

PRINCE JAMES: So what do ya think?

I don't know, kids.

This plan of yours gives me heartburn.

If it works,
you could get your home back.

But to pull it off,
we'll need help from all of you.

What else have we got to lose?

-Let's do it.
-BOTH: Yes!

AQUALINA: It's paradise.

AQUALINA: It's paradise.

It's all that I hoped for and more.

But there's still a fire burning.

AQUALINA: That can't be right.

All the fires should be out.

Come on, girls.
We've got one last fire to put out.

Here they come.

It's working.

They're coming down to check the fire.

That's it. They're gone.

-Let's go...
-James.

Or maybe we should
make sure that was all of 'em.

Okay, that's the last of 'em.

Now we can go.

Let's hope the dragons can keep
the sea monsters busy for a while.

What can be keeping
that fluttering nuisance going?

Well, good riddance.

There's another one.

Well, put it out.

Okay, we have to put the Eternal Torch
back on that pedestal.

[GASPS] There it is.

Help me with it.

That better be the last one.

No.

I'm confused.

I thought we put all these out.

AQUALINA: There shouldn't be
any fires left.

There will always be fire and dragons
on the Blazing Palisades.

So, it's a trick.

I thought you dragons would've been
washed out to sea by now.

Our tails may be soggy,
but we're still here.

Ha ha, there's nothing
left for you now.

Oh, don't be so sure.

I have friends in very high places.

[STRAINING]

The fire is back?

That's impossible! It's...

[ALL EXCLAIMING]

It's... It's gorgeous.

[LAUGHS] That's what it is.

The fire is back.

But only for half the Palisades?

DOLPHINA: The top half is fire.

AQUALINA: The bottom half is water.

SOFIA: It's so beautiful.

Now all we have to do
is get rid of the fountain.

Wait a minute, Sofia.

I've been just jumping
into things all day.

Maybe we should stop
and think about this one.

You know what? You're right, James.

It might work out better for everyone
if we leave things just as they are.

That beautiful rainbow is a sign

of what fire and water can be
when they're put together.

Wouldn't it be better to stop fighting

and see what wonderful things

you can accomplish
living side by side?

What do you say, guys?

Eh, it's a pretty big island,

so, uh, what the hey?
I guess we can share.

Well, if someone as stubborn as you
is willing to try it,

then I guess I can, too. We're in.

[STEAM SIZZLES]

Fellas, I think this calls for a song.

[SINGING] When the water in the clouds

Meets the sunshine way up high

Such views

All the water joins with fire

To light up the evening sky

Such hues

So we know what's good for us now

We won't make any noise

-I know we can get along
-Doo-doo-doo

And maybe write a new hit song

Oh, yeah

We're gonna finish strong

'Cause this island belongs

It belongs

-To us
-To us

Oh, it belongs to us!

BOOK NARRATOR:
And with dragons and sea monsters

living side by side in harmony,

the island became known
as the Misty Palisades.

Now that looks
just like a happy ending.

Oh. But there's still
one more happy ending to go.

[GRUNTS]

Go, James!

Wait a minute.

Yes!

[PANTING]

Done!

And with time to spare. [CHUCKLES]

It was wise of you to check the door
before trying to bash it down.

Well, my lad, you passed your test
with flying colors.

You have earned the rank
of Junior Knight.

Congratulations.

Thank you, Sir Finnegan.

Way to go, James.

Well, you know what they say.

BOTH: Look before you leap.
[CHUCKLING]
