♪ He's what we call a dinosaur sensation ♪

♪ Barney's friends are big and small ♪

♪ They come from lots of places ♪

♪ After school they meet to play ♪

♪ And sing with happy faces

♪ Barney shows us lots of things ♪

♪ Like how to play pretend

♪ ABC's, and 's

♪ And how to be a friend

♪ Barney comes to play with us

♪ Whenever we may need him

♪ Barney can be your friend too ♪

♪ If you just make-believe him! ♪

(upbeat music)

- Hi Angela, hi Beth.

- Hi Nick. - What are you doing?

- We're building a wall.

(upbeat music)

- Careful Beth, don't knock them down.

- I won't.

- Just one more and our wall will be finished.

- Yeah. (chuckling)

- There we did it!

- Yay!

- Would you like to see our wall Barney?

- Don't fall!

It's a long way down.

- May I play with Barney now?

- Okay, but hold on tight.

Hi everybody. (chuckling)

Oops, sorry I knocked down your wall.

- That's okay.

- It may take all the King's horses

and all the King's men to clean up these blocks.

- (chuckling) We can do it.

- Can I help?

- Sure, okay.

- Would you please hold my book while I help pick up blocks?

- (chuckling) I'd be happy to.

- That's a lot of blocks.

- Yeah, I didn't know there was this many!

Thanks for helping us.

- Oh, yes, thank you.

(Barney chuckling)

- Now we can do it much faster.

- Oh, I didn't see this piece of block.

- Oh, thanks. - [Barney] There you go.

- There, all done!

- Oh, this looks like a very good book, Nick.

"Squares, Squares, Everywhere!"

- It's a workbook for school.

There are things to do and a story to read.

- What's the story about?

- It's about a bear who likes looking for squares?

A square is a shape with four straight sides

that are all the same size... like this.

- You said the book also has things to do,

what kinds of things?

- I'm supposed to walk around

for more things that are squares,

then draw pictures of them in the workbook.

- Oh, I'm sure there are lots of things

with square shapes around here

and we can help you find them.

- Yeah!

- Here's a square.

- Oh, it has four corners,

one, two, three, four.

And it has four straight sides that are all the same size.

One, two, three, four.

That makes it a square.

- I can put that in my book.

- Okay.

- I don't think this is a square.

- Oh, you're right.

I mean, it has four corners and four sides

but they're not all the same size.

See, those sides are long and those are short.

This shape is a rectangle.

- Maybe we can find more square shapes in the caboose!

- Yeah, let me see! - That's a great idea!

I'm sure we'll find lots.

Let's go everyone.

(humming) Anyone find any square shapes yet?

- Look Barney, the tiles on the floor are squares!


- [Barney] Oh, so they are!

- I see one, I see one!

- Oh, okay.

- This pillow is a big square!

- Oh, and look, another square in the middle.

- Yeah!

- These big drawers are not squares!

Their sides are not all the same size.

But these little drawers are squares!

- You're right.

And isn't that where we keep paints and brushes?

- Uh huh, it sure is.

- Well then besides looking for squares

I think it would be fun to paint some.

- Yeah! (giggling)

Let me see, (chuckling) oh perfect!

- Are you drawing all the square-shaped things

we've found so far?

(bell chimes) - Uh huh,

but I still have room for more.

- That's good, because we just found more.

- A whole tray-full!

- That's right, come see.

- Wow, look at all the squares.

- And there are lots of different sizes and colors.

- Look, if you put some squares together,

it makes something fun!

- It looks kind of like a robot.

- (chuckling) You're right.

- I want to try making a robot too.

- So do I.

- Oh my, I think we have enough squares here

to make a whole bunch of robots.

- Yeah! - Yay!

(indistinct chatter)

- This is so much fun, making a robot.

- It is!

- My robot's gonna be blue.

- Blue? (chuckling)

- [Angela] Wow, that's cool.

I like your purple square.

(upbeat music)

- You were right Barney!

We did have enough squares to make a whole bunch of robots.

- Oh, yes indeed!

And pretending to be a robot can be lots of fun.

- Yeah, yeah. - Sure can.

- Robots.

(nut gritting)

- I'm gonna put all the robots in my squares, book.

- Oh, and there are a lot of them.

(animal growling)

- (chuckling) It sounds like an animal.

(growling) (chanting)

- [All] Baby Bop!

- Look out for me, I'm a great, big...gumbrella! (chanting)

- [All] Gumbrella?

(laughing)

- She means gorilla!

- Oh! (laughing)

- Hi guys?

- Hi Baby Bop, hi there, BJ.

- Hi Barney, hi everybody.

What are you doing?

- Well, we've been helping Nick with some homework.

- We're looking for square shaped things,

and then I draw them in my book.

- Oh, that sounds like fun!

- Can we look too?

- Uh huh, that would really help.

- Oh, I'm sure there are still more square shapes in here.

- Ooh, let's find them right now.

- Yeah, let's!

- Let's see, I'll go over here.

Hello BJ.

- Let me see.

Oh, hey, I found some!

Look, this book is a square.

Oh, and so is this one!

- You're right.

- Let's see if I can find any over here.

Oh, well here are some,

see, these signs are squares.

- Oh.

- Oh, I didn't find any.

- Yes you did Baby Bop.

- I did?

- Just look behind you.

- Well, oh, there's a square!

And there!

And there on the big blankey! (chuckling)

- Oh, that's called a quilt

and it's made from lots of soft cloth squares.

- My blankey is only one square, but it's still my favorite.

(chuckling)

♪ I like my blankey, it's very, very yellow. ♪

♪ I like it even better than a bowl of Jell-o ♪

♪ When she holds it close, it feels just right ♪

♪ She likes her yellow blankey in the day and night ♪

- (chuckling) Look at me.

♪ I like to keep it with me, when I say "hello!" ♪

- Oh, I think your blankey is one of the nicest squares

we found today.

- Oh, me too Barney. (chuckling)

- And look!

Here are some squares that are fun to play with, see.

- Oh yeah!

That Checkerboard is a big square

and it has little red and black squares inside.

(Barney chuckling)

- I really like playing checkers.

- It is a good game.

Of course, a lot of our favorite games have squares in them.

- Really?

- Uh huh. - Tell us.

- Well, I could tell you

but I think it will be more fun if you find them yourselves.

- Oh, what are we waiting for?

Let's play some games!

- And look for squares!

(indistinct) - And then you'll have fun.

That's a great high wind in here.

Oh-whoa, oh my!

Oh, I don't know if I can stop.

Oh-whoa-oh, oh there we go.

And you can look for squares in our games too.

How many do you see?

- Hey barney!

- Oh, what is it Beth?

Look what I found, something else that's square.

- Oh, a Jack-in-the-box.

- See, the top has one, two, three, four corners.

And one, two, three, four sides that are all the same size.

- Oh, that's a square, all right!

But the real fun comes from turning the handle

round and round. (Beth chuckling)

(bright music)

- Oh, I like to make music, can I try?

- Sure, we'll show you how it works.

C'mon! - Okay.

- I'm gonna make the little clown pop out

and make the music play.

- That'll be funny. (laughing)

- Okay, show me, please.

- Okay, just turn the handle.

- Like this?

- Uh huh.

- Oh, that's easy! - You got it Baby Bop.

♪ All around the cobbler's bench ♪

♪ The monkey chased the weasel

♪ The monkey thought 'twas all in fun ♪

♪ Pop...goes the weasel

♪ A penny for a spool of thread ♪

♪ A penny for a needle

♪ That's the way the money goes. ♪

- (chuckling) That was fun!

I wanna do it again, please? (chuckling)

- Okay, we're ready!

- Here we go!

- (chuckling) That was fun Barney!

- [BJ] Uh oh, heads up!

- Huh?

Whoa!

- Oh sorry Barney, I didn't mean to throw the ball at you,

it's kind of slippery.

- Oh, that's because it's all wet.

(laughing)

- Yeah, yeah, I know.

- Oh, maybe you'd like to play something else

until it's dry again.

- We can look for squares here in the park.


- It can be a race!

- Oh yes, please, let's do that.

- Yeah! - Okay, all right.

On your marks.

Get set.

Go! - Here I go!

(laughing)

- Hey, I found one!

See, there's a square picture, here on the wall!

- And I found a square,

a great big square with a circle inside.

- I found a square too, see!

The light on the tool shed is a square.

- Oh, great job everybody!

- That was fun!

- Wow, we found a lot of squares outside.

- Uh huh.

Oh, and I just thought of another kind of square

we can enjoy out here, a Square Dance!

- Why is it called a square dance Barney?

- Because the dance begins on four sides, like a square.

- Could we have a square dance Barney?

(laughing) - Oh, that'd be cool.

- Everyone can enjoy square dancing.

All it takes is the right music and a little imagination.

(chuckling) Whoa!

- [All] Wow, wow! - Check it out!

(laughing)

- Oh, y'all gather 'round now.

Here we go.

And all those circle rounds, do-si-do's and yee-haws

have worked up my appetite. (chuckling)

- Barney, what does that mean?

- Oh, I think it means he's hungry. (chuckling)

- Oh, well me too! (laughing)

- Well, if everyone is feeling hungry,

then maybe we should end our square dance

with a good square meal.

- What kind of meal is that Barney?

- One with tasty square foods and maybe a few surprises.

And it's already waiting for you in the caboose!

- Oh yeah! - Oh goody!

- All right! - Let's go everyone.

- Oh, I'm getting hungry out too.

(footsteps pattering)

- Oh boy, look at all that.

- Get a load of all that food!

It looks terrific! - Like a party.

- Hello everyone.

- Why, hey Barney.

How'd you do that?

- Ahh, here we are!

A nice square meal with some circle snacks.

Oh, and look, triangle treats.

- Oh, this looks so yummy!

- Well then, help yourself to a circle plate

and a square napkin.

Oh, and when you hear the triangle, it's time to begin.

(bright shimmery sound)

- [All] Oh, yay!

- Oh wow.

♪ It's a wonderful world of shapes ♪

♪ It's a beautiful place to be

♪ Take a look around from the sky to the ground ♪

♪ At the shapes that you can see ♪

Oh, they're so many.

(laughing)

I couldn't take a nap without my blankey.
