[Music]

funding for Barney and Friends has been

made possible in part by a grant from

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting

and financial support by viewers like

you

the party is a dinosaur from our

imagination

Barney's friends are big and small they

come from lots of places

[Music]

whenever we may need him

the Fox Run Away it never came back so

the bunny lived happily ever after is it

the force beautiful the pictures are all

pretty but I want to be able to read all

the words like Derek and Tina can my

brother could read stories when he was

my age I wish I could read like that

right now me too you'll be reading soon

man looking at pictures and learning

your ABCs is part of learning cow uh-huh

because we use letters of the alphabet

to spell different words like like Dad

d-a-d Dad you're smart Tina I want to be

in a spelling bee someday that's a game

to see who can spell the most words

right

hi everybody

[Music]

hey who knows what we can do today

know what we could do today we'll teach

Minnie Kathy how to read a word and

we'll have fun with alphabet letters at

the same time oh Getty what word will

you teach us to read Derek it's a

surprise mystery word they're all right

out of the chalkboard a later at a time

we'll see who can guess the word first

that sounds like fun and while we're

trying to guess your word maybe we can

do something special with each of its

letters so men and Kathy can learn them

better

that's a wonderful idea Tina what's

letter in your in your Midwood Derek

tell us

the first letter is a capital B what the

capital B see the alphabet letters on

the wall the Big B shaped like the one

Derek just made is a capital B the

smaller being next to it is lowercase

what can we do that's fun with the

letter B

I have an idea why don't you all step

over here

okay now turn your backs

okay cover your eyes and count to 20

very slowly then I'll be ready

[Music]

17 18 19 20. can we look now Barney yep

I'm already now

what's in those

back Barney well since Derek's mystery

word starts with the letter B I filled

these bags with things that begin to be

so when each of you reaches inside

you'll feel something then you can give

us some hints and we'll try to guess

what it is

it'll be fun everyone will get a chance

Derek why don't you go first okay

sure

[Music]

okay it's smooth and it's round

you can bounce it and it starts with the

letter b

a b*mb that's right man see this word is

ball

oh goody now it's my it's my turn

[Music]

here's something I recognize right away

it's fuzzy and cuddly

it sleeps with me at night and it has a

cute little brown nose a dog remember me

it has to start with the letter B oh

yeah I forgot I think it's Kathy's

favorite bear her Teddy Bear right it's

my favorite teddy bear

she's att*cked me that word is bear

b-e-a-r

oh you made a good guess Tina remember

that song the other day I met a bear

yeah why don't we sing it together

[Music]

the other day I met a bear a great big

bear a way up there the other day

[Music]

he said to me he said to me why don't

you run why don't you run I see you

don't I see you don't have any g*ns

[Music]

[Music]

that's all there is

no more

um

[Music]

you know I do have one more thing that

starts with a B that wouldn't fit into

any of those little bags okay

she's green and pink she two years old

she likes to hold her blankie her name

starts with a b and she has a funny

giggle

oh boy

oh

[Music]

thank you thank you blankie baby thank

you Tina Baby Derek spelling out a

mystery word and we're having fun with

the letters in it oh that is fun baby

bop wants to learn too what's the second

letter in your word Derek I'll show you

foreign

[Music]

what game can we play with the letter A

oh why don't we go on a capital A hunt

what's that

we look all around the classroom and see

how many capital A's we can find neat

let's get started everybody

hey look why Luke Bryan

that's right Derek

[Music]

and here's another one Barney yep that's

a capital A all right

capital A Barney in the sign up there oh

very good man

Barney look over here at the ant farm C

capital A it sure is Tina

uh-oh it looks like some of the ants

have left the farm

oh don't step on them oh be careful

[Music]

oh much

[Music]

foreign

[Music]

[Music]

the

little one stops to say the end it will

be old dude

[Music]

well I wonder what the next letter is in

the mystery word Derek Derek where is he

oh I don't know he was here a second ago

ma'am for Barney the dinosaur oh now

look at that bee

Play It's mail carrier Derek you have

something for me I sure do

it's a matter from your mom

is that the next letter in your mystery

word Derek as a matter of fact it is

let's go over to the chalkboard and I'll

show you oh boy

now what can we do with an r word that's

fun we could raise that's in our word

that's it a bike race Derek and I didn't

bring ours today besides we don't even

have a bite big enough for Barney how

about if we sing a song about an awkward

like like

railroad I've been working on the

railroad

that sounds like fun but first we have

to look the parts

[Music]

foreign

[Music]

Lily is

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

foreign

[Music]

are you ready for the next letter yeah I

am

right

b-a-r-n that's Belle's Barn is that your

special award Derek no Tina we'll add

more letters to it later but first we

need to think of a game to play with the

letter N how about the end game the end

game how do we play that oh let's play

it with Rhymes what does rhyme mean a

rhyme is two words that end in the same

sound like like cat and bat that's right

Tina now remember make sure your word

rhymes with mine and starts with the N

sound like this

can you think of a word that starts with

an N that rhymes with a word I say if

you know a few words beginning with n

then I think we're ready to play

here goes ice

[Music]

can you think of other words that start

with an N that rhyme with the words I

say if you know some more words

beginning with n then let's continue to

play here we go now game

[Music]

well that was fun and you sure named a

lot of words that begin with N if we're

ever just looking for something to do we

should play this game again last time

now ice nice fail now pickles

[Music]

we're all done I've got an idea for an

alphabet and we can play with you Barney

oh boy oh boy oh boy another game what

is it Tina we'll make letters out of our

bodies and you try to guess which ones

we're doing

foreign

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

okay

oh I know that's the letter H

okay okay

[Music]

cause it's the next letter in my mystery

word oh

to the top in the middle

p a r n and now a capital E why don't we

sing a song with an e word in it

here's a word that starts with the E how

about Do Your Ears Hang glow oh that's

huh

I love this song

[Music]

can you throw them on your shoulder like

a continental Soldier to your ears

[Music]

do your ears

[Music]

here we go

[Music]

do your ears hang low that's not a

problem I ever have but I love that song

why are we getting

I was hoping you'd all like to take a

walk through the alphabet how can we

take a walk through the alphabet that's

impossible oh not with a little magic

wow it's all 26 letters of the alphabet

right now just walk through the alphabet

and when I say freeze stop hold up the

closest letter to you and tell me what

it is okay okay Kathy it's your turn

first

[Music]

and freeze

look Barney it's a y That's Right Kathy

[Music]

[Music]

to all my friends I'm glad you came to

play our fun and learning never ends

here's what we did today

we had so much fun with our ABCs today

[Music]

why don't you look around your classroom

or your home for letters I bet you'll

find them everywhere even in your

alphabet soup yum yum

and you can sing alphabet songs or walk

through the alphabet to see how many

letters you know

and after you learn your ABCs pretty

soon you'll be able to read words

and write words like your name and the

words I love you and I do
