Tatyana Thomas is starting school here today!

Tatyana the model?

'Cause this one says she's from Monte Carlo?

[Elizabeth] Next on Sweet Valley High!

Stealing other people's boyfriends?

We can't let her get away with this!

Tatyana, this is really good stuff.

Hey!

What are you doing?

Tatyana, if you ever inv*de my privacy again,

I'm gonna make you eat this film.

What are you guys doing?

We're just trying to learn more about our new friend.

Why don't you all just stay out of my life?

I told you I wouldn't let her

get away with hurting you.

[Student] Good to see you!

[Student] See you in homeroom!

I hate the first day of school.

I love it.

It's filled with the scent of promise

and new possibility.

Why don't you take your positive attitude

and go sell Girl Scout cookies door to door?

Can I put you down for three boxes of Thin Mints?

What's with you?

Nothing.

You haven't said a word since we left the house.

I've been stuck talking to Miss Mary Sunshine

here all morning.

Just feels so odd walking these halls without Todd.

Well, that makes sense considering he had

the personality of a pair of shoes.

Jess!

That's pathetic.

You're hung up on someone who dumped you

because he can't throw a ball through a hoop in Vermont.

No, it's just that they've been through so much together.

Caring, sharing, loving.

Enough already!

Way to cheer her up, Enid!

[Elizabeth sighs]

Tatyana Thomas is starting school here today!

Tatyana the model?

No, Tatyana the dry cleaner.

Of course the model!

Why is she coming here?

I read in the school paper

that she was out of control and her parents moved here

to make sure she finishes school.

Wait a minute, you learned to read?

No more cartoons?

Oh, I know you liked to look at

all the pretty shapes and colors.

Speaking of pretty shapes.

[paparazzi clamoring]

Here comes Tatyana.

-[student] So cool! -[student ] Yeah!

[sighs] She's so beautiful.

Can't you just see us strolling hand in hand

down by the beach under the moonlight?

No, but I can see your strolling

straight into the mental ward.

This is tres exciting.

I must go introduce myself.

Aren't you being a little desperate?

She just got here.

Wait a minute!

This coming from a girl who has every magazine cover

she's ever been on?

Lila, what your small mind fails to realize

is that there's no need for me to smother her.

The truly beautiful people naturally

gravitate toward each other.

See?

Hi, I'm Jessica Wakefield.

And I'm the person whose locker

you're standing in front of.

Tatyana, Lila Fowler, your number one fan.

I got this Siorucci outfit

after I saw you wearing it in Vogue.

You actually paid for that?

You can borrow it anytime you want.

Bruce Patman, at your service.

Tatyana Thomas, not in this lifetime.

She wants me, it's obvious.

I can't believe you, Lila.

You interrupted my moment with Tatyana.

What moment?

I helped her find her locker.

We really connected.

Give me a break.

You are just jealous because she noticed

what I was wearing.

Did you see that leather jacket?

-I know, so hot. -She had shoes to match.

[Winston] Tatyana!

Tatyana!

[students groaning]

[Manny] Winston, are you okay?

[birds chirping]

I'm fine.

But where did all these pink flamingos come from?

Winston! Winston!

Come on, come on, Winston.

Okay, so maybe I didn't make the best

first impression on her, but...

I got the perfect way to get Tatyana to notice me.

You're gonna hit her with her camera?

No! I'm gonna get some pictures of her

during her first week in school.

You know what they say about the connection

models have with their photographers.

In fact, what am I doing wasting my time with you?

I gotta find Tatyana.

Winston.

Forgetting something?

I heard she was discovered in the south of France,

where she studied ballet.

I hear that in Swahili, the name Tatyana means

girl whose skin defies oily breakouts

or something like that.

I'm telling you, Jess,

she was discovered in New York City,

that's where she grew up.

Wrong, she's from Monte Carlo.

No, that's where she destroyed her hotel room

after she lost $, at the Casino Royale.

-[class chattering] -[poignant instrumental music]

[Student] Excuse me.

Hey.

Okay, people, settle down.

Welcome back.

I remember most of your faces from last year,

although I do see a couple new ones.

Let me see.

You must be Tatyana Thomas, right?

Well, welcome to my social studies class.

I'm sure you feel the same excitement

as the rest of the students, huh?

Yeah, right.

Right.

Well, today I wanna talk about Indonesia.

Now, who can tell me

what language they speak there, hm?

Anyone? No?

Elizabeth.

I think they speak Bahasa Indonesian,

which is a Polynesian language.

Correct.

I'm glad to see someone did their summer reading!

Actually, there are over dialects

spoken in Indonesia.

In fact, there are so many different languages

that someone from one town wouldn't understand

someone from another town three miles away.

Ah, there's very interesting, Tatyana.

Well, thank you, thank you.

I didn't, [stammers]

did you know that, anyone?

Don't feel bad.

I spent a lot of time down there for a magazine sh**t.

It took me a month just to learn

six of the local dialects.

Can you believe Mr. Perini?

Everybody knows about the languages.

And to think they let him teach.

Excuse me, Jessica.

Well, since you're in a talkative mood,

why don't you tell the whole class

what is the chief export of Polynesia?

Polyester?

[class laughs]

[girl] There's Tatyana.

-[patrons chattering] -[pinball machine pinging]

[girl] Tatyana.

[patrons chatter]

[boy] Think she's got nice hair.

[patrons chatter]

Do you mind if I join you?

Sure.

I warn you, I'm pretty good at this.

What's your name?

Todd.

I'm Tatyana.

Yeah, I know.

I'd say everybody knows.

Must be tough being a celebrity.

Yeah.

People think it's so great,

but it isn't.

You never knew why someone's trying to be your friend.

So why'd you move here?

My parents thought this would be the perfect place

to get out of the fast lane

and get some perspective.

On what, boredom?

Winston, this is Tatyana.

What are you doing?

Nothing.

-Winston! -What?

Are you gonna take her order or what?

Oh, yeah.

I'm sorry.

I'll have a burger and fries

and a shake, strawberry.

[Winston sighs]

Winston!

Coming right up!

Whoa!

[dishes clattering]

I'm really sorry.

Does that happen to you a lot?

All the time, unfortunately.

Put five waiters on crutches already.

Possibly six.

Wow, that's a cool necklace.

It's an onyx frog charm.

I got in Nepal doing a sh**t for Glamour.

Gives you good luck if you rub it.

I could use some good luck right about now.

[Jessica] She doesn't waste any time, does she?

[sighs] I can't deal with this right now.

Wow!

Maybe you should make sure she's okay.

Right, and leave you here

to rub elbows with Tatyana?

-I don't think so. -She's your sister.

Don't try that guilt stuff with me.

Liz needed to see that.

Maybe now she'll forget about that pile of yawns, Todd.

Fine, but don't crowd me.

I'm going to invite Tatyana to a photography exhibit

at the art museum tomorrow.

Crowd you?

I couldn't care less.

Lila, don't look now.

Amy Sutton is wearing the exact same outfit you have on!

Oh my god.

What should I do?

Try the emergency exit.

[Lila] Good idea.

Of course, it's not like the events

you're used to going to.

It's just a photography exhibit.

But I thought you might wanna go.

Hi, Tatyana!

If you don't have any plans tomorrow,

I thought you might like to go to the art museum.

They're having a great photography exhibit.

Jessica already asked me.

Oh.

Really?

[stomping]

Ouch!

Sorry, my foot's asleep.

Well, if you're busy tomorrow,

then you just have to go with me to my masseuse tonight.

You will love her.

Look, I didn't say I was going tomorrow.

I don't blame you.

Bad company's worse than none at all.

So what time tonight then?

I'm not going with you either.

You two don't even know me.

And what I know of you, I already don't like.

So if you'll both excuse me,

I was in the middle of an interesting game with Todd.

-But, but... -Buh-bye!

[Lila] She walks around like she owns the place!

[Jessica] As if!

Hey, what are you guys doing back here?

Well, I knew you were upset

and I wanted to see if you were okay.

Besides, I couldn't bear to be around

that stuck-up little witch.

Was she mean to you guys?

No, of course not.

I just can't believe she treated me,

I mean you that way.

We can't let her get away with this!

Who does she think she is?

She was all over Todd.

She'll regret the day she ever tried

to steal my sister's boyfriend.

What are you doing?

Just reading up on Tatyana.

What more do you need to know about her?

She hates you.

Lila, this isn't about me.

It's about Liz.

Try to understand the strong connection between twins.

When someone hurts one of us, we both hurt.

The only thing that's hurt here is your ego

and that's why you're going to be as small and petty

as is humanly possible.

Hey, she wasn't exactly nice to you either.

Did I say I had a problem with small and petty?

There's an article here somewhere about her.

Here it is!

"Tatyana Thomas, Manhattan's favorite daughter."

Well, that's funny,

'cause this one says she's from Monte Carlo.

Written by Jenny Ellen.

Why does that name sound familiar?

She wrote that story about the prince of Santa Dora

when he visited here.

We met her at your father's party.

That's right!

Jess, sometimes you amaze me.

Sometimes I amaze myself.

Is there any way we could get in touch with her?

Is there anyone I can't get in touch with?

[Tatyana laughing] It was the best.

[Todd] Really, that's cool.

I'm telling you,

I waited on her all night at the Moon Beach.

So she actually spoke to you?

Spoke to me?

She ordered a burger and fries!

Now we're like this.

There she is now.

Hey, Tatyana!

How 'bout a few pictures before first period?

Get me outta here.

[Todd] Yeah, come on, let's go this way.

You can all imagine how difficult it must be

trying to fit in at a new school

and being famous doesn't necessarily help.

I tried to talk to her and she completely ignored me.

I'm sure she's just a little overwhelmed

meeting so many new people.

I'd like Elizabeth to do a one-on-one interview with her.

Mr. Collins, I'd really rather not

do the Tatyana Thomas interview.

[Student] Why not?

She makes me feel uncomfortable.

I know, I know,

a good reporter has to put aside personal feelings.

Well, I don't want you to be a good reporter.

You don't?

No, I want you to be a great one.

Look at this as a challenge.

I know you can do it.

You never let me down before.

Hi, how's it going?

Look, I've dealt with stalkers before.

I thought I made it perfectly clear at the Moon Bubble,

or whatever that cheesy place is called.

Stay away from me.

You must be thinking of my twin, Jessica.

You mean there's two of you?

My condolences to your parents.

Look, my name's Liz.

I write for the school paper and I was hoping

I could interview you for next week's edition.

Why would I want to be interviewed

by some rinky dink school newspaper?

Maybe just so that people get to know

who you really are.

Hm.

I think you've mistaken me for someone who cares.

[Winston] Psst!

I got your note.

This plan better be good

because I'm missing my social studies class.

So?

Miss Juitt is substituting.

Oh!

Well, just trust me because this is definitely worth it.

Tatyana Thomas is going to be putty in my hands.

Wait, what's in this for me?

The satisfaction of helping a friend.

And $!

Now, I've been studying fashion magazines all day

in preparation for my big moment with Tatyana.

Come on, class is almost over.

Where do I fit into this plan?

I need practice photographing a model.

No way.

Yeah!

No one is around.

No one will see.

-[Manny] I don't know. -Come on, strike a pose.

[Manny] I feel so stupid!

Yeah, that's it!

Looking good!

You're really good at this.

-[Manny] You think so? -You're a natural.

Now give me something sexy.

Point nowhere and look sexy.

I know Cindy Crawford and you, sir,

are no Cindy Crawford.

[laughs]

We talked for over an hour.

She said Tatyana was the absolute worst

interview she'd ever had.

So what did you send you?

Wait 'til Miss Jet Set sees this.

Speak of the devil.

Met your twin.

And I thought one of you was bad.

You have no idea.

Look, do you guys have something to say to me?

No, no!

We wouldn't want to interrupt your hectic schedule,

what, with stealing other people's boyfriends.

Come on, Lila.

We'll have more to discuss with Tatyana later.

[camera snaps]

That's perfect!

What are you doing?

I promise, you're gonna love these sh*ts.

Oh, they're great!

Great, why don't you get a close-up?

Really?

[laughs]

Oh, that's beautiful.

That's great, Tatyana!

You should be a model!

Oh, that's great!

This is really good stuff.

Hey!

What are you doing?

If you ever inv*de my privacy again,

I'm gonna make you eat this film!

Okay, fine!

If you wanna approve the negatives before I print 'em,

no problem.

Hey, Tatyana!

Or should I say Cheryl Agnes Thomas?

Here she is modeling her spring swimwear

outside her hometown of

South Gooseneck, Arkansas?

Second runner-up, Miss Brussels Sprout .

Daughter of Walter Jethro Thomas,

small-town barber and local checkers champion.

What are you guys doing?

We're just trying to learn more

about our new friend.

Where did you get all this?

We have our ways.

Personally, I'm confused.

I thought you grew up in New York City, Cheryl?

I mean Tatyana, or whatever your name is.

Is this the only way you people have

to entertain yourselves?

Worshiping someone you don't even know

and then tearing them down

to make yourselves feel better?

It's really pathetic.

Why don't you all just stay out of my life?

[Student] Right, way to go!

I told you I wouldn't let her

get away with hurting you.

Don't you dare drag me into this.

This isn't about me.

It's about you and your pride.

Tatyana didn't wanna be your friend,

so you did this to her.

You know what?

She was right.

Pathetic.

Tatyana, wait!

My friends shouldn't have done that.

Oh, right, like they didn't love every minute of it.

Just leave me alone.

Why did you make up your past?

You think anybody wants the truth?

No way!

All they want's a fantasy.

My agents and the magazines made up everything,

even my name.

I hate it.

They accused me of stealing some guy, too.

It's always the same wherever I go.

That was Todd.

He and I were dating.

He just broke up with me.

Look, I'm not interested in Todd

for anything more than a friend.

Trust me.

Well, you weren't exactly friendly

to people around here.

I know I got what I had coming.

What do you want from me?

Well, [sighs]

I better go.

You really liked him, huh?

Yeah.

I did.

Believe me, I know the feeling.

My boyfriend broke up with me,

I thought I was gonna die.

What did you do?

What can you do?

You just have to keep going,

telling yourself you'll be okay.

Somehow, you will be.

So do you still wanna interview me?

You're changing your mind?

Since I'm stuck here 'til I graduate,

maybe I should give my side of things.

What do you think?

I think that's a great idea,

Tatyana.

Just call me Cheryl.
