- This looks so tasty.

Child: Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!

Vendor: Fresh stew!

- ( bubbling )

- Freshly prepared!

- ( chatter continues )

- Customer: Hey, mister...

what’s this?

( child laughs )

( demon slurping )

( food sizzling )

( chatter continues )

Demon : You hear the news?

A farm was att*cked

the other day.

Demon : Another one? ( scoffs )

Someone’s desperate

if they’re stealing meat.

Demon : ( chuckles )

If I had a chance to nab some,

you can bet I would.

( both sigh )

Demon : All the good meat

goes to the aristocracy,

and we’re left

with this garbage.

Demon : I’d give anything

to try some meat

from a top-class farm,

even just once.

Hey, you think

the ones from Grace Field Farm

are still out there?

Demon : ( chuckles ) Doubt it.

It’s been a year

since they got loose.

They’re all dead by now.

( bird shrieks )

( woman vocalizing )

( bird shrieks )

( vulture warbles )

( birds squawk )

( vocalizing continues )

( grinding )

( bell jingling )

( shuffling footsteps echoing )

Children: Welcome back!

Emma: Hey.

Sorry we took so long.

( breathes deeply )

Thoma: How’d it go, Emma?

Don: Ta-da!

Check this out!

( children gasp )

Emma: This is all the food

we could get today.

Sorry it’s not more.

Jemima: It’s okay!

Mark: Yeah, it’s enough!

( stomach growls )

( Jemima gasps )

( Mark laughs )

( children laughing )

Ray: Eh? Huh?

( footsteps echoing )

Both: Hey!

Emma: How’s it goin’, guys?

( soup splashes )

( fire crackling )

Children:

Thank you for the food.

Anna: We’ll save this

for tomorrow

and that for the day after.

Yvette: Is that enough?

Emma: I’m going back tomorrow.

I’ll come back

with a ton of food.

- Jemima: There’s no rush.

- ( Emma gasps )

Christie: We’re doing fine

so far sharing.

Mark: Yeah! And there’s

lots of ways to make soup!

Rossi: I could

eat soup every day!

Emma: Okay, but--

Anna: It’s fine, Emma, really.

We’re not going to starve,

so don’t worry.

( Emma grunts )

( footsteps shuffling )

( Mother on radio )

End transmission. Over and out.

Gilda: Nothing happened

at the Houses today.

That’s good, I guess.

Nat: Can’t we do something?

Don: Well, we can’t keep

hiding forever. That’s for sure.

Gilda: At least

we’re safe here for now.

And this place

has good reception,

so we can still keep tabs

on Grace Field.

Nat: We haven’t come up

with a new plan

since we abandoned the bunker.

Gilda: We’ll figure out

what to do in time,

but we can’t bring Phil

and the others here.

That would be crazy.

We’re barely getting by

as it is.

- ( display crackling )

- Nat: It’s far.

Anna: Yes, it is.

Getting there

almost seems impossible.

( Emma sighs )

( both grunt )

♪ ♪

Emma: I feel so helpless.

I thought

I had it all figured out.

I thought I was prepared.

It’s a world full of demons

out here,

and we’re just kids,

all by ourselves,

with enemies all around.

How’d I expect us to live

in a world like that?

I already knew we’d have to find

shelter and food on our own,

that we needed those to survive.

I knew that.

And I still made us

leave the farm anyway.

I want to protect everyone,

but every day’s

getting harder than the last.

I’m just making them suffer.

I can’t let them

go on living like this.

It’s not right.

And I still have to hurry and

rescue Phil and the others, too.

I don’t know what to do.

I’m helpless.

( sighs )

I’m so totally helpless.

Ray: You couldn’t be more wrong.

I’m alive because of you.

( Emma gasps )

Ray: Same goes

for everyone here.

No one’s blaming you

for our situation,

so don’t go blaming yourself.

You did the right thing,

and we did the right thing

by following you.

Now we need to figure out

our next move.

( Emma grunts )

( wind blowing )

Thoma and Lannion: Emma!

( Don gasps )

Oh, no.

Lannion: We’re going

with you to find food!

- Emma: What?

- Thoma: We wanna go!

You can use an extra hand!

Don: It’s risky enough

for us to walk

through that demon town

without you goofballs along.

Thoma: We’ll be careful.

We swear we won’t do

anything stupid.

Lannion: Lookit!

We even made demon disguises!

Thoma: And we

got rid of our scent.

Don: You did a great job

on those masks.

Gilda: You’ll blend in

well enough, but still.

( sighs )

Emma: It would be nice

to have more help,

but, um...

but...

( gasps ) Sorry, guys.

Not this time.

- It’s too dangerous.

- Both: Aww!

Thoma: Come on! Let us help!

- We can totally help!

- Lannion: You can bring back

- even more food if you take us!

- Thoma: Please! Please!

Don: Might as well bring ’em.

( all three gasp )

( Emma sighs )

Fine. They can come.

Listen, stick with us,

and do what we do. You got it?

And no horsing around,

or you’ll give us away!

( both gasp, laugh )

Both: Yay!

- ( bell jingles )

- ( children gasping )

( taps echo )

♪ ♪

( stick taps )

( scrapes )

( tapping )

( tapping continues )

( fire crackling )

( demon sniffs )

Here again?

- Mark: Yes.

- Alicia: We are.

Demon: Hurry on home now,

children.

I told you before.

The Evil-Blooded Temple

is sacred.

It is a place of worship,

not a playground, understood?

Rossi: Yes, sir.

( bell softly jingles )

( footsteps shuffling )

( stick taps )

- ( clatter echoes )

- ( children gasp )

Gilda: Emma!

( gasps )

( all shudder )

Emma: Here you go.

( demon sniffing )

( all gasping )

Demon: Ahh.

Ohh.

- ( gasps )

Demon: I heard

your friend call you Emma.

That is a beautiful name.

Thank you.

( fire crackling )

O Gracious One...

I kneel before you,

thankful for your mercy

and your bountiful gifts,

grateful for the blessings you

have bestowed upon my family.

( Emma gasps )

Demon: Ah, this world

can be so cruel.

There are some in town

who are close to degenerating

into wild beasts.

If only the farms would share

more of their meat with us.

But I fear nothing will change,

not for us, not in time.

- ( stick taps )

- ( Emma gasps )

( taps echoing )

Demon: You poor children,

I pray you can all eat

better food, too.

Mark: Thanks.

Christie: You, too, sir.

( demon laughs )

- ( Anna sighs )

- ( Don sighs )

Gilda: Emma!

Sheesh! What were you thinking?

What if he finds out

we’re human?!

Emma: Sorry. He needed help.

Don: I’m never

gonna get used to that guy.

He’s nice and all,

but we’ve been

running from demons

since we escaped from the House.

Nat: Yeah, I know what you mean.

It feels so weird

having him get so close.

Anna: He seems harmless.

He’s been nice

the past six months, anyway.

Gilda: True, but you

heard him just now, didn’t you?

- He eats humans.

- ( Anna and Don shudder )

Gilda: If he finds out

we’re not demons,

it’s over for us.

Christie: Well,

at least he leaves

yummy offerings for us to eat!

Dominic: I’ll say!

It’s a good thing

demons eat

other stuff besides people.

Yvette: If only every demon

were like Sonju and Mujika.

They don’t have to eat us,

so we can all be friends.

Emma: In the end, demons,

they have families just like us.

This is where he comes

to pray for his.

- ( demon moaning )

- Demon : Big brother.

Demon : I’m sorry.

I couldn’t afford

anything good today.

Demon : I know you tried to.

Demon : Don’t worry about us.

Demon : Come on.

Demon : ( sighs )

If we don’t get those kids

some good meat soon,

that’s it for them.

Demon : ’Member

what I said yesterday?

- Demon : Uh-uh.

- Demon : You know,

about the runaway

Grace Field meat,

about how it’s still

out there somewhere?

Demon : Who gives

a damn about that?

Like I said,

they’re probably dead by now.

Demon : Then why’s the farm

still running around,

looking for ’em?

They even called

for more soldiers

and raised the bounty.

I heard they’re coming

to this town to look for ’em.

Demon :

They think they’re here?

Demon : Uh-huh.

All that high-grade meat,

and it’s right under our noses.

Demon : Yeah, I wish.

Although...

if they are here...

Demon : We need the meat

a lot more than the bounty.

Demon : Yeah.

If we caught

the Grace Field meat

and served it up to the kids,

it’d fix ’em up real quick.

It’d stop their degeneration.

Demon : It’d stop it cold.

Let’s go look for it.

We’ll catch it

and bring it back for the kids!

Demon : Yeah.

Lannion: All right, I got one!

Thoma: Let ’er rip, Lannion!

( Lannion grunts )

( snot-fish warbles )

( Thoma grunts )

( all gasp )

Both: See that?!

Thoma: We can catch

tons of ’em this way.

Lannion: What you guys think

about our system? Neat, huh?!

Emma: Yeah, it’s terrific.

We can stuff ourselves tonight

and still have leftovers.

- Lannion: Here’s another!

- Thoma: Got it!

- Lannion: Incoming!

- Thoma: Got it!

- Lannion: Oh, here’s a fat one!

- Thoma: Yum!

Lannion: What a haul!

This should be just enough

for dinner tonight.

Thoma: "Just enough"

isn’t enough.

Lannion: You think

we need more food

for Emma and the others?

Thoma: Yup. ’Specially

since they give most of it

to us little kids.

Lannion: Well,

then we need more food.

( both grunt )

Lannion: Hey, guys,

we caught enough for everybody,

but since

we’re going to the market,

it’d be nice to pick up

some of those nuts

you brought back the other day.

Thoma: They’d go great

with this fish!

And we should

also get some more

of that spice

you got last time, too!

Emma: Okay.

( wind blowing )

( town chatter )

Thoma: Whoa.

Lannion: So this

is a demon town.

Vendor: Welcome!

( liquid bubbling )

Vendor : We have

something for everyone!

Don: Stay close, guys.

( Lannion gasps )

Thoma, look!

- ( both yelp )

- ( demon grunts )

- Sorry about that.

- ( both gasp )

( children gasp )

Demon: Here you go, kid.

( Lannion shudders )

Demon : Hmm?

( wind gusts )

Demon : Huh?

Something sure smells good

around here.

( both whimper )

Demon : Yeah, you’re right.

Demon : Wait.

Is it coming from this?

Huh. I smell meat, not this.

Lannion: Th-Thank you, sir!

( whispering ) That was close.

Demon : I can still smell it,

wherever it’s coming from.

Demon : Yeah. It’s human.

( both yelp )

♪ ♪

- Demon : Huh?

- ( Emma grunts )

( all panting )

Thoma: We’re sorry.

Lannion: We didn’t

mean to screw up!

Emma: It’s okay.

They’re the only ones

who seemed to notice.

Ray: We need to get back

to the temple fast.

Thoma: What? No, we can’t!

Lannion: If they follow us,

we’ll put everybody in danger!

Ray: Yeah. You’re right.

Okay, here’s the plan.

Emma and I will draw them away.

You guys take the long way

out of town and go back.

Lannion and Thoma: What?!

Ray: Don, Gilda, you good?

- Gilda: Leave it to us.

- Don: Yeah.

Thoma: Wait. But--

( children gasp )

Ray: Get going!

- Demon : Follow that bunch!

- Demon : Yeah.

♪ ♪

( chorus vocalizing )

( both panting )

( demon grunts )

Take that one!

( Ray grunts )

( Emma panting )

( grunts )

- ( cloth flutters )

- ( scrape )

Both: Huh?

♪ ♪

( Lannion and Thoma gasp )

( demons panting )

( Gilda gasps )

( both panting )

( demons grunt )

- Demon : Eh?

- Demon : Huh?

( demon sighs )

( grunting )

This way!

Emma: That takes care of them.

Ray: Let’s hide in the crowd

back at the market.

( both gasp )

♪ ♪

( both gasp )

( both gasp )

- ( demon gasps )

- Demon : There they are!

Demon : That’s our meat,

so don’t get any funny ideas!

Demon : Yeah! We saw ’em first!

( both gasp )

♪ ♪

( both grunt )

- Boy: Emma.

- ( both gasp )

( mask scrapes )

( both gasp )

Emma: No way.

( both gasp )

Both: Norman!

Norman: I missed you guys.
