[passengers screaming]

(Dominic) Nothing, String.

Not on our radar and not on our infrared.

(Hergos) One and or so
assorted American citizens.

$ million for the package or they're dead.

You pay and you'll probably never
see any of those people again.

[passengers screaming]

Somethings wrong.

That rocket tore up our
pods. Everything's jammed.

Are we on course?

Which course?

The one we bounced off a second ago?

Or the one we're bouncing around on?

Or the one that we're about to slam into now?

National Weather,

this is Special Survey .

We're at a heading of over Cabo San Martin.

Hurricane Kim is unstable.

Winds, knots.

Drift right degree at , .

Do you read?

(man on radio) Special
Survey . Loud and clear.

You guys come on in. We got the toddies hot.

That's a big thanks.

We're a little late for a wedding.

Hey, you do a great job on these emergencies.

How come we never see you?

'Cause we're too modest to accept. Out.

[laughing]

Mom, I said I'm comin'.

No, I told you, I'm comin' alone.

Mom, I'm sorry. There is no Mr. Right just yet.

No, no, it's not Daddy's fault
for teaching me how to fly.

Mom, a lot of girls fly.

Who?

The Flying Nun, Wonder Woman, Peter Pan.

Okay, I know Peter Pan was a boy.
But Sandy Duncan played him.

Mom, I'll be there, all right?

Mom, I know I can't have a
baby with a helicopter, okay?

Goodbye.

Caitlin, your plane leaves in an hour.

You know what?

I think it's real unfair
for me to walk out on my job

for some personal event.

Personal?

Your sister's getting married.

Well, whose fault is that?

You check the Ranger. I'll get her dressed.

Well, you know, figuratively speaking.

(Designer) I always see my own
girls off to a fashion show

regardless of where it is.

After all, they're my rags

and I want them hung from my bones.

Voila.

(woman on PA) Attention. All
passengers on Trans Pacific Airlines

flight for Portland and Seattle…

What do you think, Ingrid?

What does your crystal ball say?

We're a small airline,

but after you get finished telling
those bankers in Dallas what for,

we'll be a big airline.

All we need is $ million.

Edward,

they say airports are a place
where people say things

because they're forced to say them quickly.

Oh? Yeah?

And I…

Huh?

Well, I…

This is a momentous occasion.

Ingrid Kendall is at a loss for words.

Well, I…

I just wanted to say, I
know you'll get the money.

If anybody can…

You're very good for me, Ingrid.

I don't know what I'd do without you.

No need to find out.

Would you stop shoving me?

- You'll miss your plane.
- Wouldn't that be too bad?

- Caitlin, you're going to that wedding.
- Yeah.

I don't know why I have to go to Texas
to be told what's wrong with me.

- I could stay at Santini Air.
- (Stringfellow) Yeah.

[beeping]

Empty your pockets, please.

(woman on PA) Passenger Joel Geiderman,

passenger Joel Geiderman,

Pacific Airlines flight , please
pick up a white courtesy telephone.

[beeping]

Trans Pacific flight to Honolulu,

departing gate .

Trans Pacific Airlines flight…

Hey, you do and I'll bite.

What are these things?

Wedding presents.

She's a Texan.

Thanks.

Come on, guys, don't make me go.

Ah, you'll love it.

Sure, you just take care.

(Stewardess) Welcome, everyone.
We have good news for you.

Our weather is improving.

Please follow me.

- Okay, here.
- Okay, thanks.

- (Dominic) Bye. Bye-bye.
- (Caitlin) Okay.

Excuse me.

Excuse me.

- Bye-bye.
- Bye-bye.

First class? Straight around to the front.

This way, please.

- (Attendant) Straight down…
- Not bad.

Excuse me.

- Any time. What's your name?

- Could you move?
- What's the rush?

We're both gonna get there at the same time.

- My name's Mark.
- Do you know karate?

- What?
- I give free samples.

Thanks.

I'm sorry.

That's all right, dear.

I'm here.

Oh.

See, I'm goin’ to my sister's weddin'.

And I've got knick-knacks for just
about everybody who's ever heard of me

ever since I was born.

Is this your first flight, honey?

(Hergos) Excuse me.

You're kind of last minute, don't you think?

Gotta check the microwave for a leak.

I just work here.

(Stewardess) Your seat's right
up this way, sweetheart.

[beeping]

(Stewardess) Welcome aboard
flight to Dallas.

Your Captain has requested that
your seat belts be fastened

and that all seat-backs and trays
be in an upright position,

prepared for takeoff.

Please extinguish all smoking materials

until the Captain has turned
off the no-smoking sign.

Please watch the Flight Attendant
at the front of your cabin,

as she points out the emergency exits

which are located at the front
and rear of the cabin areas.

If there is a sudden drop in cabin pressure,

an oxygen mask will fall from
the ceiling above your seat.

Place the mask over your nose and mouth,

bring the strap over your head and
tighten, and breathe normally.

Your life vest is located in
a container under your seat.

Place the vest over your head,

tighten by pulling the straps as shown.

We hope you enjoy your flight to Dallas.

We look forward to serving you.

You know how break dancing came about?

Some kid tried to steal
hubcaps off a moving car.

But that doesn't take away
from you doing your taxes.

They never even called me.

String, we got the same accountant.

And he says you're gonna go
to jail if you don't file.

Just a lot of paperwork.

And he's flying up a special
accountant just to save your neck.

Special, huh?

Somebody good with puzzles.

[Dominic laughing]

I expect to be a Mother one day.
I hope to be a good one.

Do all Mothers and daughters argue so much?

It's part of life, I guess.

I just don't know what upsets her.

I mean, I don't know what's wrong with me.

You seem very nice.

See, she's always throwin' my sister in my face.

She says we're so different.
But I really don't see where.

You see, my sister went to
school, and I went to school.

My sister dated lots of
guys, but then so did I.

Now my sister works for an
insurance company, and I'm workin'.

Well, I guess we're all the same.

I didn't sleep till my
own daughters were married.

Just what is it you do, dear?

I'm a helicopter pilot.

Oh!

Well I mean, it's no big deal.

I fly movie stunts, do a little crop-dusting,

border hops, that kind of thing.

Oh!

Let's go.

There has been some concern about
Hurricane Kim, but so far so good.

The storm is exhausting itself out at sea.

We expect a comfortable flight.

(Hijacker) Okay everybody, stay calm.

(Pilot) Hey, what's going on?

(Accountant) I'm in accounting because
it's a neat, organized profession.

Direct.

Actually, very uncomplicated.

and always makes .

Why are you crossing that out?

Dry-cleaning your personal clothes
is not a business deduction.

Hey, it was a client. He
regurgitated on my pants

when we hit an air pocket.

Well, you clean your suits anyway.

I wouldn't even wear suits
if Dom didn't insist on it.

Oh, the rest of the time you fly in the nude?

You must be very popular in some quarters.

So, what about these?

I need the stubs.

But you know, I really
don't need them right now.

I need a break.

Could I have something to drink?

Coffee? Tea? Juice?

Vodka?

Sorry you had to get stuck doing these taxes

on such a short notice.

Well, Santini and my boss are friends.

I saw you at our office
one day, so I volunteered.

[helicopter whirring]

It's just tourists, they fly over.

[whimpering]

They'll be gone.

This is a lovely place.

Thank you.

Thanks.

Kind of a hideaway?

String!

Hey, String!

Where are you, String?

Hi.

Go down to feet and take a heading of .

You know, you're gonna k*ll us all.

For $ mill, it's one hell of a crap-sh**t.

(Air Traffic Controller) Flight
, your signal is weak.

Okay, take out the radio.

(Air Traffic Controller)
Flight , come in, please.

Flight , come in, please.

It's no use, he's off my scope.

Oh, my,

aren't those waves large?

We're too low. Fasten your seat belts.

Fasten your seat belts. Put it on.

Captain?

Captain?

Bobby, what's going on?

(Hijacker) Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to announce
that this is a hijacking.

Relax, enjoy your experience,

and pray that your ransom is paid.

For now, buckle up.

We're about to land on the water.

Okay everybody, just stay calm.

[passengers screaming]

It's okay.

Mommy, Mommy!

It's all right, dear.

It's okay.

Take it easy. Take it easy.

[passengers chattering]

We're sinking.

We're sinking!

[seagulls cawing]

(Announcer) Investigators of the Los
Angeles area are currently looking into

the strange disappearance
and subsequent ransom demand

of flight from LAX bound for Dallas.

The plane carried passengers,

among them, the Airline's President.

Search operations are underway.

Next, Barney Cabral with sports.

They're down.

We did it.

Yeah.

[crying] Oh, my God.

We're gonna be fine. It's all
right. Everything's fine.

Everything’s okay.

[sobbing]

Hey, hey, hey, you know what? They're
gettin' out of hand out there.

I'm scared.

I'm scared.

Now you can't be, because that's not your job.

Okay.

Everyone please, please, don't panic.

We are all right.

You can be sure that rescue
operations are already underway.

She's right.

This plane can maintain its
integrity underwater indefinitely.

What do you know?

My name is Johnson, sir. I'm
Vice President of this airline.

We don't need lies.

Hey, we doth need a party pooper.

Right?

Come on guys, do I have to say
we're all in this together?

(man) Pain in my leg. I can't move.

Thanks.

[sonar beeping]

[buzzing]

Yeah, we got it.

His leg got cut. It won't stop bleeding.

Give me some napkins.

Can somebody help us?

Is there a Doctor onboard?

I'll get the first-aid kit.

Hey you, come here, come here. You're elected.

I need your thumb.

Good, good, good. Right there.

Like that?

Yeah. You okay?

Yeah, I'm all right, thanks.

We've got something I want you to hear.

(Hergos) We are not greedy men.

One and or so assorted American
citizens, man, woman and child.

$ million for the package.

Prepare the money, any denominations.

Wait for our next call.

Play it straight or they're dead.

Tony, thanks for lettin' us in.

No problem you guys, just
keep a low profile, all right?

What really has us up a tree is the fact

that even a downed plane can
be spotted by a satellite.

This plane is gone, vanished.

What about an abandoned airstrip?

Could it be camouflaged?

There are just so many airstrips en route

large enough to handle a plane that size.

Why are we talking? It has
to be down somewhere by now.

It could take days to raise the money.

We'd better start.

You gonna pay?

What's our choice?

You wanna get cute now

and play FBI with a bunch of
who-knows-what-kind of lunatics?

You pay and you'll probably never
see any of those people again.

[phone ringing]

Hey.

You're right, of course.

You know, I have a friend on that plane, too.

We've been together years.

I fell in love with him the day we met.

But I never told him.

He was married and had children.

When his wife d*ed,

I cried too.

Then I told myself,

“Ingrid,”

“it's been a respectable amount of time.”

“Now you'll tell him.”

But I never did.

Hey, don't blow that window.
You'll drown us all.

[expl*si*n]

[passengers screaming]

(woman) Oh, no!

(man) There's water coming in.

(woman) This is terrible.

We're filling up.

We won't fill up.

No, no, no, we're pressurized.

Well, look at it! We're breaking apart.

Would you shut up?

Hey, we did it!

There.

Yeah.

[hooting]

Oh, no.

Maybe they'll go away, huh?

Can't let it,

not when all the evidence against
us is buried on the bottom.

[hooting]

(Hijacker) Great sh*t!

Thanks!

Now nobody knows!

- We've just gotten some bad news.
- Oh?

The storm's swinging north.

If it gets any closer, we'll have
to call the search planes back in.

Not a trace, nothin' to check out.

Nobody even has a hunch.

Where the devil could it be?

Come on, let's go.

Listen.

They may have to call off
the search, but we don't.

Hey.

Our baby doesn't mind a little rough weather,

not with Caitlin out there.

Oh hey, what the heck. Go ahead and eat up.

Have a grand time. It's on
the airline. No charge.

We're all gonna die here.

Coffee, tea, chateaubriand for ?

What are you doing? Sir stop, no!

If we heard a boat before,
we couldn't be that deep.

Hey, hey…

now it's okay, everything's all right.

Everything's gonna be…

everything's gonna be fine.

Just give me that Kn*fe.

[sighs]

You okay?

Yeah.

(Dominic) Nothing, String.

Not on our radar and not on our infrared.

Are you getting any pictures?

Plenty.

Let's take her up.

Turbos.

Oops!

Forget the turbos.

Nature just lent us her elevator.

Well, for whatever it'll get us, it's
a look no one else will ever get.

Running cameras through
weather over large areas

with our kind of equipment.

How's the weather ahead?

Worse, if anything.

No let up.

(man on radio) Flight , this

Don't answer it.

You'd better ID.

Coast Guard Patrol, this is Ranger .

We have a tailwind.

A tailwind?

That big storm is the worst. Can't
make up its mind where it's goin'.

Right now, it's comin' your way fast.

You're ordered to call off
the search for a while.

"Tailwind"?

Well, we've got a friend
aboard. We gotta keep going.

You've been ordered to come in.

We don't want to end up
searchin' for missin' craft.

What are you still doing out there?

[static crackling]

Hello? Are you there?

Can you read me?

(Announcer) All attempts to
locate the have failed

because of worsening weather conditions.

I never demanded, I swear.
I just said, "Get it."

They just called off the search.

They'd never find it anyway.

This time tomorrow we're gonna have
more cash than most countries.

And all the evidence against us
is under fathoms forever.

Cool.

(Caitlin) And so he took a deep, deep breath,

and he huffed and he puffed
and he puffed and he huffed,

but he couldn't blow down
the house made of stone.

(girl) Were you really a policeman?

Now, I said I was, didn't I?

I was a policewoman. Ladies can be police.

They teach you how to knock
down a man like that?

Only if you have to.

I have this brother

who's mean to me.

- Mmm-hmm.
- And you wanna knock him down?

I bet you do.

[creaking]

(man) Why are we moving?

Look, the water is back.

I'm lookin' and I'm lookin'
and I can't see anything.

You know,

I know where they are.

What's this?

Oh, my God.

[passengers chattering]

(man) We've got to do
something, we can't just…

I've got another one over here.

They're all alike.

I'm afraid the plane has shifted its weight,

popped some rivets,

separated some plates.

Just enough.

(Caitlin) Is there any
way to get at ‘em to fix?

Nah.

How long until the plane fills up?

I'd say

we can last a few more hours.

Hey, we're hangin' in there.

- Can we help?
- Anything we can do?

Yeah, smile.

Put on a happy face, sing happy songs,

and if all else fails, put on your bikinis.

You know, this is gettin' downright boring.

At least there's good company.

We're not getting out of here.

Hey, you wanna bet? ’ll get you .

Now, put up or shut up.

It's okay.

(Stringfellow) The plane never
put down along this route.

It went off radar right here,
where it changed course.

Mmm-hmm, yeah.

Right into the mountains, here.

That's what we thought at first.

But they didn't go to the mountains.

Well, the rest of it's just… just water.

Right here, look at this photo. It's infrared.

Yeah, but it's just shadows.

That is the silhouette of an airplane.

You mean they went down at sea?

Well, it's all over then. They're all dead.

(Dominic) Not so fast.

That plane looks intact.

If it is, there's no reason why
those people wouldn't be alive.

Well, we've got a break in
the weather. We got a chance.

We're gonna go check it out.

Please, let it be.

Yeah, we'll… we’ll radio back.

Wait, wait, wait.

You guys said you had a plane
that could see underwater with?

Do you mind if I tell that to the press?

No, just say it's some special equipment
we're testing for the m*llitary.

- Special equipment?
- Yeah.

Right.

Right.

Coast Guard Rescue.

(Hergos) It was on the radio. Coast
Guard thinks they've spotted a plane.

Maybe we should forget about it, man.

They're never supposed to find that plane.

We gotta get out of here.

We gotta get outta the country.

What, from $ mill, we
don't get back gas money?

Take the wheel.

- We gotta destroy the evidence.
- Evidence?

Those people are dead one
way or the other, man.

There's no way they can ID anybody.

They send divers down,

and they remove the bodies.

And they find out that guys are missing.

And they start to check
it out and they get to us.

Man, this was perfect.

We are gonna blow that plane out of the water.

And the next time we pull this
job, they'll pay and fast.

(Stringfellow) Well?

(Dominic) Nothin' yet.

And we're as close as we can
locate from those infrared photos.

If we're right, it's gotta be here.

Where else can it be?

Are we on coordinates?

String, don't get your hopes up.

Our chances of finding them…

All right, just checkin'.

She's missin' her sister's wedding.

Try those scanners again.

Okay.

[beeping]

Since that plane went down,
it just doesn't seem real.

Ransom and hijacking.

And Caitlin's right in the middle.

Boy, is her Mom gonna be mad.

Hey, what's that?

Hey String, I swear, it's them.

It's them, String!

It's really them!

Air Rescue, this is Ranger.

We've just spotted flight .

I repeat.

We believe we have spotted .

(Dominic) Our bearing is longitude west,

latitude north.

Get out here fast.

(man) All right, longitude …

Okay, over you go.

Oh, my.

Oh, my.

- What?
- Oh, oh, my!

Oh, my!

Hawke, is that you?

Hawke, is that you?

It's a diver.

to lift the plane out of the water.

Commander, we are not flying a submarine.

Well, whatever it is, you did
an incredible job, sir.

And you should feel proud of yourselves.

Yeah, yeah, sure.

Oh, what the heck. Hooray!

[laughing]

Did you set the depth charges for feet?

- They're set.
- Okay, let me give it a test sh*t.

Let's do it!

I saw Caitlin.

The plane’s intact.

Thank God.

Yeah, but it can't keep the water out forever.

It shouldn't be much longer.

Coast Guard Rescue's on its way.

We better be on ours.

We're not gonna just leave ‘em.

sucking on dry tanks now.

for when the boats get here.
