[SUIKA]
No way! They spoke to us?
Who is this mystery person?
This may just be
wishful thinking,
but perhaps there's
another group of survivors
somewhere across the ocean.
It could be a rescue
request, right?
Some ship lost at sea
might've picked up our signal.
Then the message would
be "SOS" or something.
But a million "whys" is more
like asking what we're doing.
Worrying's not gonna
solve anything!
So let's leave it
to the thinkers.
There's still plenty
of work to be done!
Now let's get to it!
Yes, I couldn't agree
with you more, Taiju.
Too many cooks spoil
the broth, as they say.
We should leave the strategizing
to the guys in the w*r Room.
They heard the message
firsthand, after all.
Plus, they're the
five sharpest minds
in the Kingdom of Science.
[KOHAKU]
Our generals.
Well, I'm not sure about Chrome.
[CHROME]
Hm?
He's smart, but a little
too goofy for the title,
in my opinion.
I am not goofy!
You're proving my point!
Okay, now I'm a little worried.
[UKYO]
All right.
Let's review what we know,
so we're on the same page.
[UKYO] One day, a wave of light
washed over the planet
and turned all of
humanity into stone.
[UKYO]
There was no known technology
capable of such
a thing back then.
[UKYO] By the time Senku
willed himself to break out
of the stone,
, years had passed.
[RYUSUI] Huh. So we're
thinking our "Why-Man"
was behind everything then?
I guess that name
is as suitable as any.
[RYUSUI]
But there's no way he'd be alive
after , years. That is,
unless he petrified
himself along with us.
Everybody slow down a sec!
I admit, I got
freaked out before, too.
But how can we be sure
Why-Man is an enemy?
There's a chance he'll
turn out to be an ally!
Yeah, there is a chance.
It's just that we have no reason
to consider that possibility.
Let's say he is friendly.
All that means is that
we'll have over-prepared
and can breathe
a sigh of relief.
[GEN] I suppose, although he
didn't seem particularly
neighborly out there
on the water.
You remember?
So are you the mastermind?
[GEN] He completely ignored
Senku's provocation.
The endless onslaught
of "whys" ceased
and he's been
radio silent ever since.
An unseen enemy.
One that could come for us
from anywhere at any moment.
We're in a tough spot.
[SENKU gasps]
That's it!
[UKYO, GEN gasp]
[SENKU chuckles]
This makes things a lot simpler.
We just gotta see
this unseen enemy
with the new eyes of science.
[GEN]
An Erlenmeyer flask?
[KOHAKU] We're going to see
the enemy through this?
Oh surely that can't be it.
No, that's it.
I was right?
Got a job for ya, power team!
First, we're taking this stuff
from Chrome's huge
gem collection.
It's called sphalerite.
Uh-- Oh yeah.
I remember when we found those!
We're gonna smash the hell--
[BOTH grunting]
Powdered instantly!
Gonna smash the hell out of it.
Then we dissolve it in water,
pour it into
this flask, and wait.
We want to let it
stick to the bottom.
And we've got fluorescent paint!
[KASEKI]
This next part's an old trick.
We gotta turn the flask into
an extra-large vacuum tube,
same way as usual!
[laughs] It's easier
with all the room to work!
[RYUSUI]
Hmm. Despite your explanation,
I still have no idea
what this is.
[SUIKA] That's okay,
I bet it'll make more sense
when we turn it on! Boop.
[ALL gasp]
[SENKU]
Just like with the vacuum tube,
we use electrodes to
accelerate thermions,
AKA electrons emitted by heat.
Electron beam!
[SENKU] And the fluorescent
paint at the bottom of the flask
lights up right where
the particles hit it.
[ALL gasp]
[SENKU]
It's the birth of the display.
I'd been planning on
making these puppies
so we could have a proper
display for the GPS.
But that was easier
than I thought!
Could you really
call this a display?
It looks more like,
you know, a dot.
Yeah, I think Senku's
finally lost it.
All that mad science
has made him go crazy.
[SENKU]
The beam creates the point.
But moving it around
turns it into an image.
It's gotta be done
at a precise rate,
left to right, top to bottom.
That's how those old CRT TVs
worked back in the day.
They just did it across
the entire screen.
[CHROME]
But how are we supposed to move
the beam around so precisely?
That's a good question.
We're calling upon the power
of a magic stone--the crystal!
Yikes, now he's talking about
seeing our enemy
in a crystal ball?
The guy's definitely
cracked up, no doubt.
[SENKU]
Relax.
I'm half messin'
around over here.
There seriously is
some magic power
to be found inside
a crystal, though.
[GEN] Uh... We're still
talking science, right?
[SENKU] This is ten billion
percent scientific.
Apply some voltage to a crystal
plate and it vibrates.
At a ridiculously
consistent tempo, too.
[SENKU] Those precise vibrations
lead to incredibly clean
waves of electricity,
almost like magic.
So we make a sandwich
out of two crystal plates...
[ELECTRON A]
Curve!
[SENKU] ...and the electron beam
passing between them
makes a perfect curve.
--[RURI gasps]
--[MIRAI] The dot grew sideways!
It just spread out left to right
and turned into
a perfectly straight line!
I didn't follow all that,
but it sounds like
we have a crystal TV?
Well, crystals are bad!
That's all I know so far!
So much power coming
from one single stone.
The laws of nature,
they're just so mystical!
Yeah, and when we
discover those laws
and use them to our advantage,
know what it's called?
Science.
[ALL gasp]
For the final step,
we're adding some
vertical curves.
All we do is connect
our radio antenna
to a crystal sandwich
tilted vertically.
[ALL gasp]
Of course!
I recognize this, it's obvious!
[chuckles] What kind of
sonar operator am I?
I should've been
the first one to catch on!
Seeing an unseen enemy
with the eyes of science.
It's a radar!
[SENKU] Just have to swap out
the antenna for a microphone,
and we got an
underwater sonar system.
Ukyo, this is your territory.
[UKYO]
GPS, radar, sonar.
This has all the technology
of a modern boat now.
[SENKU chuckles]
I told you, didn't I?
Humanity's strongest w*apon
has always been
telecommunications.
We're gonna pull back
the curtain on you, Why-Man.
I don't care if you're on land,
up in the sky,
or down in the water.
First thing you said
when you saw us
making moves was "why,"
and I wanna ask you
the same question.
You have something to do with
the petrification, don't you?
[CHROME gasps] This bendy line
shows us what's under the water,
I get that, but this flat part
is the ocean floor?
So, then what's this part?
The zig-zag thing
right in the middle.
Senku! Ukyo!
There's something in the water!
And lots of it!
[UKYO chuckles]
[UKYO]
Nice job, Chrome.
[CHROME]
Huh?
[SENKU chuckles]
[SENKU] Half the reason I
wanted sonar in the first place
was for this.
[grunts]
It's gonna be a long trip.
The other side of
the planet is no joke.
Bread's great,
but we need to be able
to source food on the go, too.
[CHROME gasps]
This thing doubles
as a fish-finder!
[RYUSUI grunts]
[ALL laugh]
[CHROME]
What a haul!
[RYUSUI] Ha, ha!
So what you're saying is,
with our radar and sonar,
we can light our path all
the way across the world,
and track down the
mysterious Why-Man!
[SENKU] Yeah. Honestly,
I feel like thanking Why-Man.
We didn't even know
what we were looking for
until he decided
to drop us a line.
[chuckles] But luckily,
our new friend chose to
enter the game all on his own.
Thanks to that,
we're a major step closer
to figuring out
the petrification.
You sure make this
sound rather un-fay.
[chuckles] And while the enemy
could surprise us at any moment,
if Why-Man's creepy
message was meant
to be a thr*at warding us off,
it's pretty funny how much of
the opposite effect it's had.
[UKYO] That kind of thing
doesn't work on Senku.
[GEN]
Yeah, you're right.
That's just the type of person
our dear Senku is.
[VILLAGERS gasp]
[SUIKA] Wow, I've never seen so
many fish in one place before!
[FRANCOIS]
Between my bread and the radar,
our voyage will certainly
not lack for food.
[VILLAGERS gasp]
[VILLAGERS chattering]
What a strange device.
We can catch all the fish
that we'll need with it.
Radar and sonar are
powerful beyond belief!
Yup. Whether it's the dark sea
or some cloudy skies,
that tech'll let us
see through anything.
[GINRO]
Let us see through...
[CHROME]
...anything?
How very intriguing.
Does that mean,
and I'm just asking,
it could see through clothes?
Specifically girls'?
Uh, I mean, specifically
for science purposes?
I've always had an
appreciation for science.
You are unbelievable.
Ginro, stop it!
X-rays can kinda do that,
but you'd see through
more than just the clothes.
So it can see through,
like, anything?
[GINRO]
That's not fair!
Chrome's thinking the same thing
and you're not berating him!
[KASEKI]
Nah, he's not like you, Ginro.
He's got that look in his eye.
The one that means
he's coming up with
some new, exciting project.
Not that I know what it is.
You're the expert here.
Any thoughts on our radar, Ukyo?
I think the biggest issue
will be the output.
We're gonna need more
than just regular batteries.
Don't worry.
We're packing the ship with
a bunch of huge-ass engines.
They're gonna generate
a ton of power.
[KASEKI] Woohoo! You sure
know how to fire me up
with all these impossible tasks!
So are these massive
engines the last step
we need to complete
before the ship's ready?
[SENKU] Yeah. There's just one
teensy little problem, though.
We're talking about producing
gigantic steel machines.
Not the kind of tiny creations
we whip up in the lab.
We're now in the realm
of manufacturing,
and we're gonna need
mountains of iron and oil
to make this happen.
Looks like we're starting
to run out of iron sand.
There's only so much we can
scoop up from the river.
[CHROME]
Radar sees through things.
Like the sky and the sea.
Well, what about land?
Could we see through the dirt to
find iron and other stuff then?
I need this coil thing
to sh**t out
those magnetic waves
or whatever they're called.
What if I attach it
to the radar screen?
[CHROME]
All right, let's give it a sh*t.
Better run a test by
putting it up to some rocks.
Huh?!
Any idea where Chrome
disappeared to?
He ran off.
And he had this crazy
big grin on his face.
He was like, "This is bad!
It could actually work!"
or something.
[CHROME]
Man, this place takes me back.
[SENKU chuckles]
Well, take a look at that.
The lightning god descends.
[CHROME] It's the bald
mountain where Kohaku,
Senku, and the rest of us
captured lightning together!
[CHROME] I rigged the radar
to react to magnetic iron,
and this is the spot
where it came from!
I just so happened to
find this bad boy
on top of that bald
mountain one day!
[CHROME]
Try to remember.
Where did I find it when
I explored here as a kid?
There's gotta be more
under the ground!
Huh, huh?
[CHROME grunting]
[sighs]
[gasps] It moved.
I-I'm not just
seeing things, right?
No, it definitely moved!
All right, let's do this!
Come on,
underground bamboo radar!
Ahh, bad!
This is tricky work,
but it's kinda fun, too!
Feels like I'm up to some
next level treasure hunting!
[gasps, laughs]
[CHROME]
Yeah!
[CHROME]
Senku!
[SENKU]
You made a metal detector.
The electromagnetic
waves make it
a radar for
the earth, basically.
Since the coil's magnetized,
the induced current
gets pulled in by magnetite
when it's near some.
Resource King Chrome
does it again.
You used science
and your own two feet...
...to explore your way
to an iron deposit.
[chuckles]
[ALL cheer]
Look at him, being all smug.
I know. Nobody build
him up too much
or he'll never
come off his high horse.
You don't have to
worry about that.
I'm not gonna start
acting like some bigshot.
It's just that I got
this idea in my head,
so I ran an experiment
and wa-bam!
It actually worked,
just like I thought!
This is bad. It's crazy fun!
[SENKU chuckles]
Oh yeah, I know that feeling.
Success is rare,
so enjoy it while you can.
I've gotta admit, this is quite
the haul we've got here.
[SENKU]
I told you, we're entering
the Age of Industrial
Manufacturing.
Which means we need way more
resources than before.
[YO]
Holy hell!
No way am I gonna be able
to carry this all the way back!
Oh, yeah, that's right.
We haven't thought
about how we're gonna
haul off everything
where it needs to go.
This stuff's weight is no joke.
That's a good point.
It's hard enough carrying it
through this cave,
and that's just the beginning.
We're surrounded by mountains,
and we need to cross the sea.
[SENKU] Did you know
the Kingdom of Science
is over a hundred
people strong now?
That's enough to split up
and handle multiple projects.
[KASEKI]
Senku!
How are these pieces
looking to you, good buddy?
Great. They're perfect.
Ten billion points to you.
All right. I'm leaving
you in charge, Kaseki.
Woohoo! I hope you're ready
to put some work in, Chrome,
'cause the craft team is
about to get stuff done-zo!
Huh?
[SENKU] Guess I should
check on how things
are moving outside, too, yeah?
What are you
talking about, Senku?
Wait. Are some of our people
working on something else?
We're making a huge,
fancy distribution network.
Y-Y-Y-You know,
if they can g-g-get
the i-iron though
the a-a-a-ave-cay,
we m-m-might be able
to d-d-d-drive it
the r-r-r-rest of the
w-w-w-way by c-c-c-car!
[GEN screams]
[UKYO] I'd be more on board
if the road wasn't so rough.
My body agrees.
[GEN gasps]
[gasps] What? No!
We can't possibly be at
paved roads already!
[chuckles] We've made the jump
from a primitive stone community
to widespread
infrastructure quick.
Yup. When the world
started using oil,
it changed the whole game.
Though to be fair,
asphalt is percent gravel,
so we were always
pretty close to it anyway.
Are you for eal-ray?
[TAIJU]
That's surprising.
Since it's dark and flows out
all goopy like mud,
I was sure it'd be mostly oil.
[GEN]
Indeed.
We're not wasting our precious
oil like that, ya big oaf.
Gravel and waste
byproduct, right?
Can't get more bang
for your buck than that.
[SENKU]
When we boil down oil,
asphalt is what
gets strained out.
[SENKU] Firm it up with
some gravel and spread it.
[NIKKI]
Go...
[ALL]
...rilla!
[gasps]
[SENKU] Smack the heck out
of it, and it's done!
[ALL] Gorilla, Gorilla,
Gorilla Team! Gorilla!
[GEN] The road's being built
in the blink of an eye.
So scientific,
yet still a tad primitive.
[UKYO]
Who needs heavy machinery
when you've got
the power team, huh?
[ALL]
Gorilla Team!
[SENKU]
Making a whole network of roads
would be too much to ask.
But just covering
the worst parts
on the shortest route
should be plenty.
[GEN]
Oh yeah, this is way better,
and very much appreciated!
Now that you've
made it to the river,
you can leave the rest to us.
Who better to take it from here
than the people of the water?
[KINRO] You hardly even
rowed the boat, Ginro! Sit down!
Transporting stuff
by water is smart.
I mean, it's at least
a lot more efficient
than doing it all by land.
[GINRO chuckles, gasps]
[RYUSUI]
Ain't that the truth?
[RYUSUI] It's one of
the upsides of this long,
narrow island we call Japan.
And fun fact,
the Nanami Conglomerate
got its start in Edo Period
cargo vessel sales!
Suddenly everything makes
a little more sense.
Is that how your
ancestors got rich?
Yup!
[GEN]
Everything outside is ready,
but now we have to prep
this orribly-hay bumpy hill
so it's easier to carry that
painfully heavy metal up it.
[gasps]
[RYUSUI] Now that we've reached
the age of manufacturing,
we're at the point where
a single genius won't cut it.
We need someone with
leadership qualities
to bring out
the best in everyone.
We need someone
trained for the job.
[RYUSUI] I had lessons drilled
into me from an early age:
"keep your emotions in check,"
"never indulge in passions."
[RYUSUI] But I never believed
in any of that crap!
My leadership style
is different!
A real leader's gotta
know how to have fun!
No one'll follow a stiff!
The best leaders have
one thing in common.
They know how to bring
joy to their people.
To the rest of the world!
Oh yeah? That philosophy
puts me at ease.
[ALL laughing]
[GEN] Because our Kingdom of
Science is a perfect match.
[SENKU chuckles]
There's only one right way
to get around in a mine!
[YO]
Mine carts!
[CHROME]
This is bad, but in a fun way!
Y'know what?
I don't care if you're
the mastermind
behind the petrification.
We're comin' for you, Why-Man!
[CHROME]
After we gather enough resources
to do some insane science,
you're next on our list!
It may have taken a lot of work,
but the Kingdom of Science's
resource network is complete!
