01x06 - Closing Arguments

Post by bunniefuu »

This is called an ineffective

assistance of counsel.

- Wait just a second.

- [JUDGE ROSEN] Mr. Morris is chosen

to represent himself for

the remainder of the trial.

[JAMES] I have to do this audition.

- I just need you to read off-camera.

- Yeah.

You've gotta go back there, Caleb.

- You've gotta face those demons.

- [JAMES] No.

- We good.

- Oh, very good!

She definitely wants to, uh

She's definitely trying

to sleep with you.

[NOAH] Yeah. Right. Okay.

- [JEANNIE] Bigger jumps.

- [JAMES] Okay.

- No smaller jumps, James, please.

- [JAMES] Okay. We're on the same page.

[WHIMSICAL MUSIC PLAYING]

It's a bittersweet

moment because it's like,

"Yeah, I wanna get this done with.

I want my phone back. I

wanna go back to my life.

There's things I need to

do as well as I want to do."

But at the same time,

I'm having a good time.

I mean, these are great people.

Like Ross said, I would never hang out

with a handful of these people,

but having been forced to,

it's nice, you know, you

just get to meet new people.

- [RONALD] Good morning. How you doing?

- [SECURITY] Hi. How are you?

- [RONALD] Did you have a good weekend?

- [SECURITY] I did. Did you guys?

[RONALD] Yeah. Same old sh*t.

Locked in a hotel, you know.

[JAMES] Oh, we love it.

- [LAUGHS]

- Oh, yeah.

This could go on for

a couple more weeks.

I think we wall we're all

gonna buy some retirement property

down here in Huntington Park.

I think that James

Marsden is doing sarcasm

because I don't I

don't want to be here.

[PRODUCER] Is anyone excited to be here?

I mean,

it's not that bad, you know.

Keep hanging out.

[SOFT LAUGHTER]

Were you able to get that

all edited and sent off?

- [JAMES] Yeah.

- Did you help him?

- Yeah, I did. Huge.

- That was pretty cool, you guys.

- It was interesting to see the process.

- We were feeling it.

- Yeah, it felt good, man. It felt great.

- It was great.

Did you book it?

[JAMES] I haven't I

haven't heard anything yet,

but let's just say I've

heard some rumblings.

- How about that?

- Thanks.

God! I just wish I

could tell you guys more.

I know you wanna know.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

[SECURITY] Come on through.

[BEEPS]

- Why did you do that?

- Uh, I just wanted to test the shoes.

[SECURITY] Oh.

[JAMES] Whoa!

Look at him.

[RONALD] The other night, Vanessa

and I were talking to Todd,

it's just kind of been

our goal to get him to,

you know, come out of his shell,

learn a bit more about him.

And we're talking about giving

him a makeover, you know,

getting him a new wardrobe,

new shoes, just everything,

the whole nine yards. So we had the

opportunity to do that yesterday.

They let us go to the mall.

We had nothing else to do and we said,

"Well, let's give Todd a makeover."

- [BARBARA] I love it.

- [WOMAN] Todd.

- [MAN] Todd, I like this look.

- [TODD] Thank you.

[INEZ] Wait, do a turn.

I want to see that.

That means do a turn.

- Woo!

- [MAN] Yeah!

[INEZ] Wait. Then

- [BARBARA] Goodness.

- [INEZ] And then back to us.

- [TODD] Oh, sorry.

[WOMAN] There you go.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

- You look good, Todd.

- [TODD] Thanks.

[RONALD] I think Todd looks great.

The thing that made me happy was that

everything that I've been trying to do

to instill some

self-confidence into him,

I mean, it clearly is working.

You got any ideas what you do

with his hair, he brought some gel?

[TODD] I brought hair gel.

- [VANESSA] Come on. Go sit over there.

- Okay.

[LONNIE] Listen, court

isn't a fashion show.

Court is about laying the law

and finding out justice, okay?

They didn't come in court to look good.

Yeah. But you looking

good instills self-confidence.

You gotta be self-confident

to stand up and say,

"Hey, I think what you

guys are saying is wrong."

- [LONNIE] That's very true.

- "This is the evidence presented,"

you know. He's gotta be confident.

[TODD] In addition to my new clothes,

Vanessa helped change the

way that my hair looks.

[JUDGE ROSEN] When we left off on

Friday, it was a little bit hectic.

Mr. Morris has decided

to represent himself.

Mr. Morris, are you ready to proceed?

Yup. Yes. Yes, sir.

Just

- Wherever you feel comfortable, sir.

- [TREVOR] Okay.

Uh, do please state

your name for the record.

Uh, hi, Trevor Julian Morris.

Thank you. And where

do you currently reside?

Uh, I live in, uh, Van Nuys, California.

- And

- [JUDGE ROSEN] Mr. Morris,

what are you doing?

Uh, I'm representing myself, Your Honor.

Yeah. But this isn't a movie Bananas.

Just sit there and tell your story.

[TREVOR] I've never seen that movie.

Um, okay.

Well, in, in regards to the

conditions at the factory,

I have here some photos which

clearly show chemical barrels

- [DEBRA] Objection.

- that were not

Your Honor, I believe

he's showing you things

that were not in evidence.

I never received photographs

and discovery from Mr. Sanders.

Then I'm sorry, sir.

They can't come into evidence.

Besides that, what else would

you like to present to the jury

or discuss in front of the jury?

I guess I have no further

questions, Your Honor.

[JUDGE ROSEN] Oh, okay.

Then do you have further

witnesses or further evidence?

No, no.

[RONALD] I'm just saying,

if he's not prepared,

that's literally his fault.

- That's true. Yeah.

- It's a hundred percent his fault.

He has admitted to

passing out at his station,

but he hasn't told us why.

He hasn't told us it was because

he was getting lightheaded

due to poor working conditions.

I don't know why he

wouldn't clear that up

but as of right now,

this is where we stand.

Damn, man. I was, uh,

thinking he'd have more

statements for us than just photos.

[LONNIE] You don't know

what's going through his mind,

you know, if he's nervous.

You don't know, you know,

if I don't know.

You don't know nothing.

- You know what I mean?

- Yeah.

[PRODUCER] You're going

into closing statements now.

The trial is coming to

an end. How do you feel?

It's a double-edged sword because

I've gotten to know these people,

and these are great people.

I'm really starting

to hit it off with Ken.

He's coming out of his

shell. He's hilarious, man.

- [KEN] We have not had much of a chance.

- [RONALD] We have an hour, huh?

- I believe Ken's game is called Yut.

- It's Yut.

It's a Korean board

game. It's pretty fun.

But that's how we learned

that Ken really likes gambling.

We should play for

just small stakes, okay?

- Okay.

- My mom and I,

we only play for, like, two dollars.

sh*t. I only got 20s, Ken.

- Okay.

- I don't know what you want

- That's okay.

- All right. Let's do it.

- That's okay. Just put it on

- Let's do it.

- Just put it on the side.

- All right.

[KEN] Okay.

And this is you.

Okay.

So it's like, um, Monopoly

and checkers

and, um, and throwing sticks.

You see, this one is covering that one.

[RONALD] Mm-hmm.

[KEN] This red one is out

and it's covering both.

The most important part is to get here.

- Mm-hmm.

- And then if you have a double,

then that also means that

you can potentially have more.

- Okay.

- Okay?

So why don't you start?

All right.

Normally this is just okay,

but this is a gae plus one, okay?

- Plus one because he's on top?

- Yes.

- Okay.

- Gae plus one.

But also it means gae

plus one multiplier one.

- Okay.

- Okay?

[RONALD] Depending on

how the sticks land,

depends on how many moves you can make,

there's obviously rules, but then rules

like you can take other players.

There are certain rules,

you have to move backwards

as opposed to forward.

[KEN] Oh, it's Yut!

- Yut.

- Okay. I get to go again.

[RONALD] Okay.

It's Korean. I literally

all the words are in Korean.

I couldn't tell you.

Oh, maybe we need back.

- Yut! Or

- [KEN] Wait. Wait.

- Yut.

- Wait.

- Oh, because it's not in the ring?

- [KEN] No.

[SIGHS]

[KEN] Would you say

this one is in the

- [RONALD] In the circle?

- [KEN] in the in the circle?

[RONALD] I mean, no, because

well, neither is this one technically,

because it's outside of the circle.

Would you say this one is touching

this one and at the end-circle?

I mean, it looks like it

is. What does that mean?

- Oh. Oh.

- [RONALD] I don't know that means.

This is [SIGHS]

- Is that a bad thing or a good thing?

- It's not, not, not,

not it's good for you.

Is, is, is that one

- [RONALD] No.

- [KEN] just what is it not

[RONALD] No. It's not inside the circle.

It's not. Oh. But it's in the

in the would you say

he's fully inside the center?

No. It looks like this guy

is not inside the circle.

- But what about

- But this guy

- [KEN] Don't touch it.

- This guy, see,

- he's, like, on the edge of the circle.

- Oh.

So I don't think it's

in the circle though.

But it's touching the line.

Well, yeah, but it's

not in the circle though.

Okay. I have never seen this.

What happened?

First, you win the game.

- I'm I won the game just like that?

- Yes. You win the game.

- Why? What did how?

- Because this is like

a royal flush in poker.

Why is this so good though?

Uh, this is 100 times multiplying

One hundred times?

We played Yut for a little bit of money

and I was, uh

unlucky.

I wish you had singles.

No, no, no. We're not no, no, no.

- Don't worry about it.

- Okay.

- I promise I will owe you because

- No, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

That's a ridiculous number.

Come on, Ken. Come on.

We're not doing that.

- Oh, it's okay.

- We're no, no, no, no, no.

- We're not

- You're so kind.

Ken, I'm not taking $20

from you, let alone $2,000.

Oh. We won't do we

won't we won't do that.

- [RONALD] No.

- [KEN] Yeah, we won't.

- But I must pay you my debt.

- No. This is all for fun, man.

This is this is just for fun.

- Don't worry about it.

- Yes, yes. That was very fun for me.

- It was a great game, my friend.

- Yes, yes. And, uh

Yes, that was that was very good.

[RONALD] I feel bad!

[OFFICER NIKKI] Come on.

Ever since you got this new outfit

[TODD] Sorry.

Ever since.

[JUDGE ROSEN] Mr.

Morris, just so you know,

this is your final chance to

tell your story to the jury.

Are you ready to do that?

Um, well, I don't um,

my co-counsel and I are not prepared

to make a closing statement today.

[RONALD] I knew this was gonna happen.

I actually called out

specifically what was gonna happen.

Plaintiff is gonna make

a closing statement.

Something crazy was gonna

happen. We adjourn for the day.

Here we are.

How are you that psychic?

Because this happens every day, Barb.

This there has not been a single day

that we've had that just been smooth.

There's always something

crazy that comes up.

This is literally feels like reality TV.

[BARBARA] Oh.

[PRODUCER] Ross, what do you think?

I have a few things.

[OFFICER NIKKI] Hey.

Sorry to disturb this.

Uh, James.

[OFFICER] You got that

call you were expecting.

[JAMES] Oh. Can I take it here?

Yeah. Sure.

- Hello?

- [JULES] What's up? Hey, James.

- Jules?

- [JULES] Hey, I've got I've got

I've got an update for you

Oh, that's great. But hang on, hang on.

Real quick, real quick, hang on.

Okay. Wait. Say that last bit again.

[JULES] I said that they loved you.

They loved it. They

really they were

- they thought it was brilliant.

- [JAMES] That's great.

[JULES] They think it's

an amazing, amazing work.

You should be really

proud of yourself

Oh, man. It felt it felt good.

[JULES] Good, because it was

grounded. It was effortless.

Like you didn't it didn't

feel like you pushed it.

It's very, very real, okay?

Awesome. That's awesome.

[JULES] You, you had this

like, uh, the gruffness.

This gruffness at the back of your voice

and they work over the moon for you.

- They just loved it.

- That's outstanding. Okay.

[JULES] Yeah. But they're

going a different way.

- [INEZ GASPS]

- [MAN] Oh.

[LAUGHTER]

- What?

- [BARBARA] What?

[JULES] Yeah. But you're

not gonna be in Lone Pine.

I'm sorry.

Wait. Are you are you are you

come on, are you [BLEEP] with me?

[JULES] No. You made good connections.

- These are the great connections you

- Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Hang on, hang on, hang on. You're

on you're on speakerphone.

Wait. Hang on. Wait. Say that again.

No way, no way!

[JAMES] Okay. Yeah. Would

do you know that I could

- [RONALD] Damn.

- [BARBARA] That's awful.

That sucks.

I thought he did great, too.

I commented when we were filming,

I was like, "Dude, the gruffness

in your voice is just right."

- I'm like, "Damn, that sucks."

- [MAN] And she said that.

He wanted it bad.

I mean, you know what they

say, "When one door closes,

another one opens up,"

so this might be

- [JEANNIE] That's true.

- This might be clearing room

for a bigger opportunity.

You know what I mean?

He was counting on that door to be open.

Then, just like Lonnie said,

that door just closed so fast.

It's not what I said exactly but, yes.

[INEZ] Aw, poor James. I feel bad.

[OFFICER NIKKI] It'll be okay.

Y'all have a good weekend, right?

What y'all do for Ross' birthday?

- [ALL] What?

- [RONALD] Ross' birthday?

[OFFICER NIKKI] Ross'

I know all y'all birthdays.

I know y'all didn't

forget that man birthday.

- [LONNIE] It's his birthday today?

- What? You didn't tell us.

How are we even supposed

to know his birthday?

And he's the sweetest one.

- One of the sweetest ones.

- [RONALD] Me, too. Me, too.

Y'all got a day off tomorrow. sh*t.

Wait. Can our hotels

get together tomorrow?

- Yeah, that'd be nice.

- [INEZ] Yes.

I'm gonna ask if y'all

can do something together.

[INEZ] Right. So we'll do cake?

Wait. How are we gonna

pay for this though?

[KIRK] Ronald, you made two grand today.

[LAUGHTER]

- [LAUGHS]

- [OFFICER NIKKI] Who's missing?

- I'm missing

- [RONALD] Ross.

- Ross. James.

- [INEZ] James.

Wait, is James okay?

[JAMES] It matters to me.

Just tell me who got it.

Oh, my God.

Which Chris?

Don't say Chris Pine.

Damn it!

God damn it!

I'm sorry.

I know that was your phone.

[DOOR OPENS AND CLOSES]

- [TODD] Hello.

- [OFFICER NIKKI] Hey, Todd.

- How are you doing? You look nice.

- Good. How are you, Officer?

[JEANNIE] You look

like Christopher Robin.

[NOAH] Babe, back up. You're too close.

- The angle is not

- You look exactly like his friend.

[NOAH] Okay. The angle looks

weird when you're this close,

- just back up for the interview.

- Okay.

[NOAH] All right. Jeannie,

what are we doing today?

Okay. Today, we are at the park.

Um, we're setting up a

birthday party for Ross.

It's sport-themed,

like it's for a child.

And our hotel got here first,

um, because it's a surprise.

- [NOAH] Okay.

- [TODD] I just wanted to see

approximately how far apart it is,

uh, set up start for

the, um, game of hole.

[NOAH] For the game of what?

[RONALD] Is this gonna be

sturdy enough to pull it?

[LONNIE] Yeah.

[JEANNIE] Noah, go get close-ups.

[MAN] All right.

[JEANNIE] Oh, my God.

Come look at this cake.

Is it sexy?

- Oh-ho!

- [LONNIE] Sports cake.

- [RONALD] Fire!

- [JEANNIE] It is insane.

That is so cute.

How come there's only one Black

baseball player on this cake, hmm?

There's another Black baseball player

so I'm gonna add that

because Lonnie asked

- [NOAH] Hmm?

- why there's only one.

- [RONALD] Sure.

- [JEANNIE] I'm just doing my part.

[NOAH] Yeah.

[MAN] Do you want me to park or, uh

[JAMES] No, don't go

anywhere. This will be quick.

- [LONNIE] Yo, Marsden came.

- [JEANNIE] Oh, my God!

Hi, James Marsden.

- [JAMES] This is nice.

- Yeah.

[JAMES] Look at all this stuff.

[JEANNIE] Yeah.

[JAMES] Wow. So nice.

How are you feeling after, you know

- I feel like I don't really want it.

- Oh, my God!

- What just happened?

- [JAMES] Do you think throwing me

a pity party is gonna

make me feel better?

- [LONNIE] Bro, what are you doing?

- [JAMES] I don't want this.

- [JEANNIE] James.

- Well, let's all feel sorry

for the guy from The Notebook.

He's not even the guy from The Notebook.

- [JEANNIE] James

- [JAMES] I don't want this.

- Rejection is part

- This isn't for you. This isn't for you.

- I'm really sorry.

- [NOAH] It's not a pity party.

- What are you talking about?

- It's Ross' birthday.

[LONNIE] And I know you didn't just

I know you didn't just

smooshed this whole cake, dawg.

Who's Ross?

What do you mean, "Who's Ross?"

Ross is the fat, six-foot-one dude.

[NOAH] Tall guy in the

jury. He's like six-seven.

How do you not know who Ross is?

God damn it.

So this isn't for me? You

weren't doing this for me?

- [NOAH AND LONNIE] No.

- [JAMES] And this is for Ross' birthday?

- It's Ross' birthday.

- What is he, 12?

Why are we throwing a

grown man a birthday party?

[LONNIE] 'Cause it's a

surprise birthday party.

- What are you talking about?

- Why wasn't this for me?

Why would this be for you?

[JAMES] Because I lost the role

so I thought it would be for me.

[TODD] He thought that we were

throwing a surprise

condolence party for him

since he lost the role

of Caleb, The Everyman.

So he came here to tell us

that he didn't want to be here,

unaware that a party that

he had not consented to

was in fact intended to be

a party for Ross' birthday.

[JAMES] Will you do me a favor?

[LONNIE] No, man, it's not cool.

You just smashed the whole cake.

[JAMES] I know. I get it. I get it.

Look, I'm sorry. Just do me a favor.

When Ross comes, just please

don't tell him that I

forgot his name, all right?

And, and just give him a happy birthday.

- [NOAH] You're not gonna help us?

- [JEANNIE] No, let him go.

Let him go.

[JAMES] [BLEEP]

[JEANNIE] This is [BLEEP] insane.

Do you think he'll notice?

[OFFICER NIKKI] Hey,

y'all. Here they come.

[JEANNIE] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

They're coming. They're coming.

- [LONNIE] Where? From where?

- [NOAH] I have an idea.

- [LONNIE] You've seen the [INDISTINCT]

- [VANESSA] It is nice to be outside.

- I was tired of being in a damn hotel.

- Great. Oh, it's

- [KEN] All right. Balloons.

- What's this?

[VANESSA] Oh.

[ALL] Surprise!

Happy birthday! Happy birthday, Ross!

- Birthday, birthday boy.

- [LONNIE] Happy birthday.

[RONALD] I do enjoy Ross.

He is somebody who is super

energetic, he's very nice,

he always wants to have fun.

This is awesome. What does it say?

- [JEANNIE] Happy b-day, Ross.

- [VANESSA] Happy birthday, Ross.

[ROSS] I wanna say thank

you, guys, for this.

This is something that I didn't expect.

It just feels like we're really friends.

And I know we're far away

from loved ones right now

and we miss them, but, um,

I'm glad I'm with you and I

hope you guys feel that, too.

- [INEZ] We love you, Ross.

- [ROSS] I appreciate that. For real.

For real. Now, you guys

[OFFICER NIKKI] You said loved ones,

I had called your emergency contact.

Your wife, Sonya, yeah, I invited her.

The judge said it's okay.

- [JEANNIE] Wow.

- [INEZ] Yay! Ross!

He's always talking about

his wife and how he had,

like, a phone date with her,

and just hearing her

voice makes him miss her

and wanna be back there,

so, very caring individual.

You left a message, you

didn't actually talk to her?

- [OFFICER NIKKI] I didn't talk to her.

- Okay.

[KEN] Well, Ross, I'm

excited to meet her.

- We, we talk so much about her, man.

- [INEZ] I know.

[ROSS] Yeah, I appreciate it,

guys. Thank you guys again.

- Thank you.

- [INEZ] Happy birthday.

Thanks.

[JEANNIE] My dad taught me how to catch.

I just like catch.

[INEZ] Wait. Whoever

drops it, what happens?

Um, I don't know. I don't

I don't know the rules.

Hey, Nikki. Nikki, what time did

what time did you say the party was?

- Did I tell her?

- [ROSS] Uh, you told her?

I just said we will be here

until probably like 3:00 or 4:00.

Got it. And you and she okay.

- Okay.

- [INEZ] Watch out, Ross.

- [MAN] Got it.

- [LONNIE] Whoa.

- [KEN] Vanessa.

- [VANESSA] Now what?

[KEN] Do you want to bet on the game?

[VANESSA] I don't think

you're good at betting.

- [NOAH] I think someone's here.

- [ROSS] Hmm?

- [NOAH] Someone's here.

- [ROSS] I don't know.

- Ross!

- [VANESSA] Ross!

- Is that who you're looking for?

- Oh, yeah, yeah.

- [INEZ] Oh, there's Sonya.

- [ROSS] Hey.

[NOAH] There she is.

[OFFICER NIKKI] Now

you all know how she is.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

[INEZ] Are you seeing

this? What's going on?

My God. It's so weird.

For some reason, I pictured

Sonya completely different.

I thought she was taller and blonde,

and that she loved Ross.

- Ross, what happened?

- [ROSS] Hmm?

[INEZ] What happened?

Oh, uh, she just, uh, came by,

uh, to tell me that she

couldn't make it, so

- [LONNIE] Oh, this great though.

- Yeah.

- I don't know.

- [RONALD] What's up, Ken?

So I spoke with my mother yesterday

and she agrees with me that

that, uh, that I must I must pay you.

[RONALD] Ken, oh, gee.

If I would've known that the

multiplier was to the money,

- I would've never put $20 in.

- [KEN] Uh, well, okay. So

[RONALD] Yeah. So it's just

it's just a misunderstanding,

so it doesn't count.

- [KEN] Misunderstanding.

- [RONALD] Doesn't count.

[KEN] Uh, and I'll still pay you.

[RONALD] No, don't do

it, Ken. No, you will not.

[KEN] I know a friend of mine,

she said she knows

how to, uh, hack the NF

and the Bitcoin,

- and she said it wouldn't be easy

- [ROSS] Hey.

- Um, hey, guys.

- [KEN] for a small investment

- from me to, to

- Uh, I just wanna let you know

- [KEN] to win.

- Um, I don't know I don't know if

- I don't know if you guys

- [INEZ] Hey, Lonnie.

[ROSS] So that was my wife,

uh, Sonya that came by.

- [KEN] So, she was lovely.

- Yeah, yeah.

And, um, I just have to be,

uh, upfront with all of you.

Um, we've been separated

for eight months.

I was trying to put up the

front that everything was okay

because I did move away from

her. And I just wanna apologize.

I'm a liar and, um, I

shouldn't have done that.

- I'm sorry.

- It's okay, Ross.

- Okay. Yeah, I'm gonna try to.

- [INEZ] Do you need a hug?

Do you need a hug?

I appreciate that. Thank you.

[TODD] Of all of the human organs

that have sub-optimal design,

today has taught me that the

heart is the most flawed of all.

[JUDGE ROSEN] What we're gonna do now is

the defendant will present

his closing argument

because the plaintiff

has the burden of proof,

she gets to present a brief rebuttal.

So Mr. Morris, if

you're ready to proceed,

uh, please do so.

Here we go.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury

[SIGHS]

Yeah, let me just start by saying

I'm not guilty of this crime.

- [DEBRA] Objection, Your Honor.

- [TREVOR] I thought I was gonna

[JUDGE ROSEN] This is a civil trial,

so there's no guilt or innocence,

there's liability or non-liability, sir.

Okay. I'm not um, I'm not

liable, uh, for this crime.

- [DEBRA] Objection, Your Honor.

- It's not a crime,

so I'm gonna sustain that.

Uh, I'm not liable for this accident.

Not liable for this accident.

It wasn't caused by

any choice that I made.

It was it was caused

by fumes from chemicals

[DEBRA] Objection, Your Honor.

Defense never presented

any evidence of chemicals.

That's gonna be sustained.

Uh, move to strike. Go ahead.

There's a substance called bromine.

- Objection.

- [JUDGE ROSEN] Sustained.

[TREVOR] Okay. Um

Well, I'm just gonna keep going

because the CDC says that survivors

of serious poisoning

caused by inhaling bromine

may have long-term

- [DEBRA] Objection.

- [JUDGE ROSEN] Sustained.

Ladies and gentlemen,

you're to disregard

any reference to chemicals or bromine.

[TREVOR] Yeah. Um, sorry.

What else do I have here?

Uh, if I'm guilty liable, sorry,

of anything,

it's not living up to my potential.

I guess there's a silver

lining to being sued.

I'm realizing that, uh,

not only do I have to take on

some more responsibility in my life,

but I actually want to now.

Uh, I wanna be a responsible adult.

[JAMES] You know, I

always said that a man

should stand up and take

ownership of their mistakes.

Like yesterday at the party

when Ross admitted to

lying about his wife Sonya.

Well, I didn't see that happen

'cause I never made it to the party,

um, which I apologize to Ross for.

The burden of proof is on the plaintiff

and they can't prove that

I caused the accident,

because I didn't.

Please don't find me liable

and, uh

thank you.

[JUDGE ROSEN] Thank you, Mr. Morris.

[JEANNIE] We heard Trevor

Morris' closing argument

and he was representing himself,

and he did a very good job and

he looked very professional,

and handsome.

Then Jacqui, when she

heard his statement,

she was like, "Oh, I

actually wanna talk."

And then, she talked

some bullshit at us.

I feel really for the defendant's story,

he had a very hard life.

I feel for that because I did, too.

I had a very, very hard life.

Um, from as early as I can remember,

uh, people would taunt me,

they called me Jackpot Jacqui

because I'm from a wealthy family.

And then as I got older,

I was bullied every day,

multiple times a day

for being tall and thin.

Jacqui was speaking and

I love her but I hate her,

I think she's a bitch

but she's beautiful.

But everything she said,

I relate to but I don't.

[JACQUILINE] And you know

what else I could've done

with my parents' money?

I could've gone to Fiji,

Cancun, Greece, Italy, you name it,

uh, on repeat for the rest of my life,

I could've done that, but guess what?

I've already been to those places.

So I wanted to make my own path.

I wanted to make Cinnamon and Sparrow.

[BARBARA] There was a lot of stuff said

that didn't really have

anything to do with anything.

[JACQUILINE] Yes,

I come from a wealthy family,

but I ask you,

is it my fault that I was born

with a credit card in my mouth?

[LONNIE] You know, I don't

really understand why Jacqui

felt the need to get up

and brag about her money

and her lifestyle but,

I don't get anything about

how this case was presented.

I know you feel bad for Mr. Morris

whose story has affected me as well.

But what about me?

Thank you.

[JUDGE ROSEN] Yeah,

that pretty much wraps up

the evidence and the arguments.

So, we're going to have deliberation

starting tomorrow morning.

And you will be given the exhibits.

The foreperson will preside

over the deliberations

and speak for you here in court.

It is your duty as jurors

to consult with one another

with a view towards reaching

an agreement if you can do so.

Your verdict, whether

liable or not liable,

must be unanimous.

I'm just happy the whole thing

is winding down, to be honest.

I don't think deliberation's

gonna take that long.

I think it's pretty

obvious. We should all vote.

You don't get to vote, remember?

I'd hate to disagree with

Mars Bar over here but, uh,

I think we're gonna be

deliberating for a while,

you know, there's a lot of factors,

a lot of evidence to go through.

Who knows how long this is gonna take?

[PRODUCER] Noah, how do you feel

about this all coming to a close?

I, uh, I, I feel, um

Babe, how do you feel?

I feel anxious about this.

Yeah, I feel I feel

anxious about it mostly.

- That's pretty much how I feel.

- Is that how you feel?

Are you sure?

Yeah.

- [BARBARA] Well, I don't.

- Yeah, I feel anxious about it.

[JAMES] Also, can I just

point out to Vanessa that,

um, I may have to vote if something

were to happen to one of you?

Not impossible.

[NARRATOR] On the next

episode of Jury Duty.

[RONALD] Today is the last day.

[VANESSA] I'm ready to deliberate.

I, I don't know, man. I'm also new.

I don't know what I'm doing, man.

Thinking, not thinking,

thinking, not thinking like that.

We're damn near split decision.

Half of us are gonna

have to change our minds.

So you're saying people can't change?

- I think we're doing him a favor.

- It's not about tough love,

it's about the facts.

Let's say we don't blame

Trevor, then who do we blame?

She is responsible for whatever he did.

- No, no.

- [RONALD] Yes, yes. You're right.

- Somebody is responsible.

- [INEZ] No.

- An incident occurred.

- No.

[LONNIE] That's the determining

factor, the smoking g*n, as they say.

- [RONALD] Okay.

- [MACHINE WHIRS]

[JEANNIE] Are you [BLEEP] kidding me?

Noah, uh, you're not

making your own decision?

[INEZ] He's, like, not even listening.

Noah, you gotta make your own decision.

Since the judge appointed

me as the foreperson,

now I feel like I have

the responsibility to lead.

Is the defendant liable,

- not liable?

- [VANESSA] Knock yourselves out.

Trust yourself and

trust your each other.

[JUDGE ROSEN] Has the

jury reached a verdict?

Yes, we have, Your Honor.
