I'm Hubba Hubba, talking

to you from Hoobland,

and I'm about to send

four of my favorite Hoobs

down to Earth, to

find out all about you

for my great Hoob-opedia.

Here they come.

(lively cosmic music)

- Don't want to be silly.

- I like all of it.

(Tula screaming)

(Hoobs laughing)

- Oh Tula, you made us jump.

- Where have you been?

- Watching the

thunderstorm from the car.

- Yeah, the lightning's

hoob-acious.

- Ah yes, but the thunder isn't.

(thunder clapping)

(Tula screaming)

Oh, oh, oh, I'm too

scared of it, Iver.

My legs go wobbly.

- Talking of wobbly legs, Tula.

(Iver grunting)

Sorry.

- Thunder's nothing

to be scared of, Tula.

- No, it's hoobly-groovy.

(Groove chuckling)

- Well I don't think so.

I think thunder is very scary,

and I bet a lot of

Tiddlypeeps think so, too.

- Oh I doubt it, Tula.

It isn't a bit scary.

- Wait, Groove, Tula

is afraid of thunder

and she's our friend.

So we need to find

a way to help her.

- Oh you're right,

of course we do.

(thunder clapping)

(Tula shouting)

Can we find a better

way than this, please?

(Groove grunting)

(Tula panting)

- If only I could stop myself.

- Exactly, now how

can Tula stop herself

being afraid of thunder?

- [Computer] Hubba,

- That's the question.

- How can Tula stop herself

- What I'd like to

is why thunder is scary

in the first place.

- It isn't.

- Oh, I think it is.

- Maybe it's the noise.

- Yes, that's it.

The big, loud crash.

That's what is scary.

- Right, let me have

a look on HoobNet,

and look for big, loud

noises, and see what I find.

Oh yes, here we are.

(lively trombone music)

Listen to that, Hoobs.

(elephant trumpeting)

(ambulance siren wailing)

(chainsaw buzzing)

- [Hubba Hubba]

Loud, these noises.

(fireworks screeching)

- That was very loud.

(horn blowing)

(lion roaring)

(Hoobs gasping)

- Ooh that's a scary noise.

Look, it scared

all the antelope.

(antelope stampeding)

(hammer clanging)

(fireworks screeching)

- [Iver] Lovely to look at,

but a little hard on the

hooby-ears, don't you think?

- Ah-hah, now maybe you

wouldn't be so scared

if you could get used

to loud noises, Tula.

I'll go and see what

I can find to bang.

- Yes, Groove's right, Tula.

We could bang some doors, or

we could burst a paper bag.

That makes a loud noise.

- Here we are, I found

this in my collection

of things that you can bang.

Now, Tula, let's see if

you can get used to this.

Are you ready?

- Yes.

- Okay.

(lids banging)

(Groove chuckling)

- There you are, that

didn't scare you, did it?

- No, because I saw you do it.

Thunder, well, just

happens all of the sudden.

- Yeah, I suppose so.

Your turn, Iver.

(thunder clapping)

(Tula screaming)

- Oh, sorry Iver.

- Don't worry, don't worry.

Groove, your big crashing noise

didn't really work, did it?

- No, but they're hooby-groovy

though, aren't they?

(lids banging)

- Stop, stop, stop, Groove.

- Sorry.

- That's enough.

- There must be another way

to stop your feeling

scared, Tula.

- But, how?

(lively music)

♪ How, how how how ♪

♪ How how how ♪

♪ How how how, how how ♪

- I know how.

What if you made a noise

that is louder than thunder

every time it thunders?

- Oh yes, if you

make a loud noise,

it might take your

mind off the thunder.

- Yeah, why don't you try

shouting louder than thunder?

- Oh, I could try.

- All right, next

time it thunders,

all you have to do is shout.

(thunder clapping)

(Tula shouting)

(Groove laughing)

- Oh dear, that was rather

horrible, wasn't it?

- I thought it was hooby-groovy.

I'm gonna do it next time.

(thunder clapping)

(Tula and Groove shouting)

- [Computer] Hubba, hubba

hubba hubba hubba hubba.

- Oh Hoobs, are you playing

who can shout the loudest?

I love that game. May I join in?

- Actually Hubba Hubba,

we're not playing

who can shout the loudest.

Tula is trying to get

over her fear of thunder

by making a noise

that's louder than it.

- Oh what hoob-acious fun.

(thunder clapping)

(Hoobs shouting)

(Tula panting)

- But we're not sure that

shouting is the answer.

- No, I see.

Well, I'll tell you what.

Why doesn't Tula go and

see the Tiddlypeeps?

If some of them are

scared of thunder,

then I'm sure they'll

know how to deal with it.

- Of course, why didn't

we think of that?

I'll go.

- I'll drive.

- Thanks, Iver.

Motorettes singing.

- Want to play who can shout

- Oh yes, I'll go first, Groove.

(Hubba Hubba clearing throat)

- Seatbelt.

- [Hoobs] We're off to

- [Tiddlypeeps] Yes.

- Um, I wonder if you

might be able to help me.

Um, well, uh, it's

a bit embarrassing.

- Tell them, Tula.

- But, you know there's thunder?

- Yes, it's been

raining all day.

- Well, I don't

actually mind the rain

as long as I'm not in it.

Hoobs hate getting wet.

And of course, in Hoobland,

well, it's always sunny.

It's just that, I get a

bit frightened of thunder.

- Really? I love it.

- Do you?

- Yes, I love the big

booming sound it makes.

- Oh, so Tiddlypeeps aren't

frightened of thunder?

- I am, it makes me jump.

- Oh really? I'm so pleased.

Well, I don't mean

pleased, exactly.

(thunder rumbling)

(Tula shouting)

- Oh, she's loud, isn't she?

(Tula panting)

- What are you doing, Tula?

- That was really scary.

- Oh, I'm sorry, I know

it's a horrible noise,

but it's the only thing

I've thought of so far

to stop myself

from being scared.

Wait a minute though,

what did you do

when I started shouting?

- We put our hands over our ears

so we couldn't hear

you, like this.

- Oh, that's a good idea.

- That's given me a

hoobly-groobly idea.

I could put my

paws over my ears,

so I couldn't hear the thunder.

- Yes, that could work.

- Oh Tiddlypeeps,

that's wonderful.

I'm going to go back to

the Hoob-mobile right now

to try it out.

- Hooble-toodle-doo.

- [Tiddlypeeps]

(lively music)

- Ch-ch-ch-ch.

- Yes.

- Oh great clouds, Iver.

- Well thank you, Groove.

(melodic music)

(Tula gasping)

- Hooby-galooby, that's a

hoobly-groobly

thunderstorm picture.

- Thanks, Tula.

(thunder clapping)

- [Groove And Iver]

It works, hooray.

- Was that a clap of thunder?

- Yes, Tula.

- And I didn't hear

it, so I wasn't scared.

(Iver chuckling)

- We've got the

answer for HoobNews.

- Oh but you'd better keep

your ears covered, Tula.

- Oh right, of course.

Why don't you put that

cloud up there, Iver?

(peppy music)

- Here?

- Over a bit, there there.

- Here?

- No, no, no. Over

further, further, further.

- How about here?

- No, oh I just can't stand here

with my paws over my ears and

watch you ruin that picture.

I need to join in.

(thunder clapping)

(Tula shouting)

Sorry, but the paws

over the ears thing

just isn't going to work.

- [Computer] Roma,

Roma, Roma, Roma.

- Nevermind Tula, Roma

might have the answer.

- Hooble-doop, Hoobs.

- [Tula, Groove, Iver]

Hooble-doop, Roma.

(pneumatic drill whirring)

- I've been looking out for

things that make a loud noise

since Hubba Hubba sent

me his last email,

and this pneumatic drill

here is the noisiest thing

I've found so far.

Now, --

- We can't hear you, Roma.

- The drill is too noisy.

- Do you think she's

saying anything important?

- What?

- I said, do you think she's

saying anything important?

- And this drill is so

noisy, the man using it

has to wear ear protection

to stop the sound

from hurting his ears.

- Wow, they look hoobly-groobly.

- I agree, Tula.

And that's why this Hoob is

going to get a pair right now.

This is--

- Hooby-galooby, Tula, where

can we get some ear protectors?

(Groove chuckling)

- Oh right here.

Look, my hooby-headphones.

Now, Tula Hoob,

you can listen to

some hooby-groovy music

instead of scary thunder.

(Groove chuckling)

- Oh, thank you, Groove.

- And Groove and I

can make lots of noise

to see if they work.

- What?

- I said, Groove and I

- [Iver And Groove]

can make lots of noise

to see if they work.

- Can't hear you.

- It works.

(lively music)

gather in the sky ♪

threatening together ♪

I don't think we're ever

going to find the answer.

- [Computer] Hubba,

- Ah Tula, why the long face?

- I think I'm going to

be scared of thunder

forever, and ever,

and ever, Hubba Hubba.

- Oh I'm sure you won't be.

Marlon the spider.

- I'm not frightened of thunder,

(thunder clapping)

- [Storyteller] His

little sister, Martha,

was very frightened of Bunion.

- You're frightened

of everything.

- [Storyteller] Teased Marlon.

One night, Marlon

couldn't sleep.

(Martha snoring)

The whole house

was quiet and dark,

but Marlon could hear a noise.

(Marlon gasping)

What could it be?

- Martha, wake up.

- [Storyteller] He

cried, shaking with fear.

- I think it's Bunion,

the big, black cat,

coming towards us.

- I didn't think you were

frightened of Bunion.

- I'm not,

- [Storyteller] Said

Marlon, then sh*t

under his covers, trembling.

(mysterious thudding)

(Marlon gasping)

- What you should do,

- [Storyteller] said Martha,

- Is pretend that the

noise is something else.

- [Storyteller] So

Marlon pretended

that the thud, thud,

thud, was actually

raindrops falling on his

granny's enormous spider's web.

The raindrops looked

like beautiful beads,

and Marlon used to

love it when it rained.

He stopped feeling frightened.

- It works.

- [Storyteller] He said.

- I know, I'm used

to being frightened,

so I do it all the time.

- [Storyteller] And was it

Bunion, the big, black cat

making the thud, thud, thud?

No, it was an old bathtap

going drip, drip, drip

into the tub.

(Martha and Marlon giggling)

- Well, I suppose I

could do what Marlon did.

Try to pretend that thunder

isn't thunder after all.

- Oh I know, why

don't you imagine

that the loud bang

of thunder is really

the loud bang of the

hooby-sandwich-hammer

flattening a delicious sandwich.

(hammer boinging)

Like that.

- Okay, I'll try.

(thunder clapping)

(Tula shouting)

No, it's no good.

It doesn't sound like a

hooby-sandwich-hammer.

It sounds like big,

loud, scary thunder.

- [Computer] Hubba,

hubba hubba hubba hubba.

- Oh dear, well why

don't you go and give

the Tiddlypeeps another try?

They are bound to know

what else Tula could do.

- Of course they are, let's go.

- Wake up, little

Motorettes, here we come.

(Iver chuckling)

you about thunder.

It's very scary.

- You don't need to be

frightened of thunder, Tula.

- No, I can tell

you all about it.

- Oh yes, please.

- Thunder comes

during thunderstorms.

- Oh yes, we saw that out

of the Hoob-mobile window.

Hoob-loads of clouds.

- What's right, it's

all clouds, see.

- Oh yes, and then

hoob-loads of rain,

and hoob-loads of,

(Tula clearing throat)

thunder.

But what exactly is thunder?

- It's the sound of lightning.

- Oh, is it?

- Yes, lightning flashes, and

thunder is the noise it makes.

- And, thunder always

comes after lightning?

- Yes.

- Oh, so you mean,

I'll be able to tell

when the thunder is coming?

- Yes, if you count between

the lightning and the thunder,

you can see how

far away they are.

- Ah.

- Lightning.

- Lightning.

- That's the lightning.

- [Tula And Tiddlypeep]

One, two, three, four.

(thunder clapping)

- Four, that means that

the storm is quite close.

- Right.

- And if you get

to ten, that means

that the storm is far away.

- So even if the

thunder's really loud,

it's really just a big

noise in the clouds?

- Yes, and a big noise

can't hurt you, can it?

- No, no.

- That's true.

- If I know when it's coming,

and I know it's just a big,

loud noise in the clouds,

then I don't think I'll be

so frightened after all.

- Hooble-doop whoop, to

all you Hoobs out there.

Welcome to HoobNews, the news

show for Hoobs everywhere.

- I'm Iver.

- I'm Tula.

- And I'm Groove.

- And today we've been

asking the question,

- How can Tula stop herself

being afraid of thunder?

(horn blowing)

We thought that it must

be the big, loud noise

that was frightening Tula, so

I did some really loud banging

to see if Tula could get

used to a big, loud noise.

- But Groove's big, loud

noise didn't scare me

because I knew it

was him banging.

- [Groove] Then we thought,

if Tula could shout

louder than the thunder,

then that might stop

her being frightened.

- But that was such

a horrible noise.

- [Tula] So I went to

see the Tiddlypeeps,

and that gave me an idea.

But having my hands over my ears

meant that I couldn't

help with the picture.

- [Groove] So then Roma

told us about hooby-groovy

ear protectors that

shut out loud noises.

- [Tula] Groove lent me

his hooby-headphones.

They shut out the

noise of thunder,

but I couldn't hear

anything else, either.

- [Iver] Then Hubba

Hubba sent us a story

about Marlon the

spider, who imagined

that a scary noise

was something else.

And that stopped

him feeling scared.

- [Groove] So, Tula tried

to imagine the thunder

was the hooby-sandwich-hammer.

- [Tula] But I couldn't

pretend it was anything

but loud, scary thunder.

But then the Tiddlypeeps told me

that thunder is the

noise of lightning,

and it can be very loud,

but it won't hurt you.

And I discovered that I

wasn't frightened anymore.

- [Hoobs] One hooba-booba,

two hooba-boobas,

three hooba-boobas,

four hooba-boobas,

five hooba-boobas.

(thunder clapping)

- See, I am not scared.

And the storm is

getting further away.

- Oh, hooble-dooble-duper.

So it's thanks once again to

Iver, Tula, Groove, and Roma

for giving Hoobs

everywhere a little peep

into the world of peeps.

And remember, wherever

you are, have a nice day,

and hooble-toodle-doo.

- [Groove, Iver, Tula]

Hooble-toodle-doo.

- Well, I don't know why you

were frightened of thunder

in the first place, Tula.

It's only a loud noise.

- Lots of people are frightened

of loud noises, Groove.

- Well I'm not.

(picture hitting floor)
