01x06 - The Card Game Job

Post by bunniefuu »

Whoa!

Dad, this tree's gotta be,

like, what? A hundred years old?

You know, you can tell

if you count the rings.

Oh.

Here you go, sweetie.

Um, Dad? I'm supposed to take two.

It's the last one we got.

Bottle's empty, kiddo.

But hopefully the truck will

sell and we can get you a refill.

It'll be all right, Dad.

Jenna!

Jenna!

Baby, what's wrong? Jenna!

Jenna's still in the hospital.

She has a respiratory

disease called Swale fever.

They were supposed to be

close to a cure years ago,

but then nothing happened. I

Of course nothing happened.

You only buy a cure once.

A treatment you buy every

month for the rest of your life.

Cures are less profitable.

But you were able to get access

to the treatment for a while?

Sure.

But then the treatment suddenly

went from 30 dollars a month

to well over three thousand.

A hundred times more expensive?

How did they justify it?

I tried to find out why, but the

drug company just hung up on me.

And the drug wasn't covered

because of your health

insurance deductible?

I got laid off six months ago.

I tried to self-pay for a

while but I just couldn't afford

both the medicine and the insurance.

What's the name of the drug company?

Pendis Pharmaceutical.

Pendis.

They just recently got

bought by a hedge fund here

in New Orleans called

Cordocorp. Cordocorp.

This is It was kind of a big story.

This is exactly the kind

of thing that they do.

Swooping into a distressed

company, raiding it,

and then jacking up the price.

I don't know anything about that.

I just know because of them,

my daughter and other

kids like her might die.

Now don't you think

jacking up drug prices

and making kids sick

is wrong, Mr. Cordozar?

On advice of my counsel, I

evoke my 5th amendment rights.

I'd advise you, Mr.

Cordozar, to be cooperative.

I'm going to take the advice

of my counsel, not yours. Okay?

I'd love to knock the

smirk off this guy's face.

Despite antagonizing the committee

and then laughing about it,

no legal action was taken

and that smirk remains.

He looks like if a weasel

and a snake had a baby

and then they dipped it in slime.

Wow.

Yup, he's a predator, all right,

and a narcissist and a sociopath.

Well, we can work with that.

He's a self-described

vulture capitalist.

His hedge fund, which is

primarily made up of his own money,

targets distressed companies.

He leverages his assets

to buy more acquisitions.

Wait, he calls himself a vulture?

Oh, with pride. The whole Swale

fever scheme worked so well for him,

he's doubled down.

He's knee-deep in negotiations with

a couple pharmaceutical companies,

all with niche treatments.

And by treatments,

I mean medicine that people need

and will pay through the nose to get

just to stay alive.

Now, is there any way that

the law can help us here?

No, 'cause he's just price gouging.

May be morally bankrupt

but it's not illegal.

Great, so Parker steals a

painting and can go to prison

We would never let that happen.

Theoretically could go to prison.

But Cordozar kills kids

and gets to buy a yacht?

I mean, you'd think there'd

be some kind of karma

working against guys like this.

- There is.

- Us.

People like that think

they're invulnerable.

Let's go find his weakness.

Remember, you're a money-obsessed,

materialistic young capitalist.

That's a little

judgmental, don't you think?

I'm talking about your character.

Well, you know I can play

a con. You've seen me do it.

Yes, but there's always more to learn.

And you can't learn if you

don't have an open mind.

Okay, how do I convince

them to give me a job?

Act like you already have it.

Well, what if there's no openings?

Of course there will be.

Somebody didn't show up

for work this morning. Go!

Whoa!

Carter!

- Where the hell is Lucy?

- She didn't call in?

I'll be happy to help you

today if you need anything.

It's not beneath me.

Nothing is beneath you, Carter.

Tall cappuccino, black.

You got it, boss! I'm here for you!

That was him. Jim Cordozar? So cool.

And who are you?

Billy Potts? Temp agency sent me.

"Temp agency"?

You covering for Lucy? Where is she?

Um

I really should let my

boss know where I am.

- He's been made aware. Keep watching.

- I don't understand.

Why is HR suddenly requiring me to

watch all these harassment videos?

I.T. got a look at your

browsing history. Ooh. Not good.

But I

Could learn a few things. Just

three more hours of tapes. Focus.

I think she called in sick.

And what is that?

Tall cappuccino, black,

and fresh beignets.

I read somewhere that

Mr. Cordozar loves them.

I'll bring them to him.

Wha ?

I got you something.

Who's the suck up?

That's Carter Lagrange,

Cordozar's key man.

Artificial intelligence expert.

He's the one who writes all the

computer programs that identifies

all the distressed properties

and helps him make all the trades.

You think these guys were college pals?

Not natural friends.

Cordozar was popular, handsome, cool.

Lagrange, brilliant but an outcast.

Cordozar exploited him in exchange

for allowing him in

the "cool kids club".

You get all that from a photograph?

It's a gift.

It's actually really interesting

once you dig into the lore, you know

Oh, trust me, it's crazy.

Okay, where do you

guys want me to start?

Going through his

computer, file cabinets?

No, no. Not yet. Look around.

Look for personal belongings.

Photos, keepsakes.

I mean, I don't think

this guy's too sentimental.

Doesn't have any pictures on his desks.

No tchotchkes, no toys.

What about the walls?

Um, nothing personal.

Just trophies.

- "Trophies"?

- Yeah, you know, like, um,

diplomas, certificates.

The man has framed deeds to

the companies he's acquired.

Well, hunters like to hang the

stuffed heads of the animals

they've k*lled on the wall.

This guy wants to remind

himself of his conquests.

Oh, my God!

- I can't believe it.

- What is it?

He bought this?

- Is that a castle?

- "Castle"? I want a castle!

Excuse me?

Oh. Best part. It's

about personal space.

"Personal space." Learn something.

What are you doing in here?

Uh, did he buy Springer's castle?

You know Springer's castle?

Do I? I mean, I'm such a huge fan.

I've been to the Spirit's Ruse Faire

on the castle grounds three times.

I wrote an algorithm

to identify distressed

and undervalued real estate

properties and found this.

A recursive algorithm that

identified a baseline condition?

No, an iterative algorithm

using data structures.

Breanna. Geek spiral. Breanna, focus!

And when I saw the property's

connection to the origins

of the Spirit's Ruse game, I

knew Jim would be interested.

- So he's a fan

- Well, not really.

But he did play in a tournament

in middle school. Got second place.

Don't mention it to him. Sore subject.

Surely he still has a

fondness for the game. No?

Jim has a fondness for opportunity.

I got him the castle and all 44 acres

for a fraction of its market value.

That's cool.

Okay, so Cordozar's a myth nerd?

It's not mythology, it's Spirit's Ruse!

And that is ?

Only the best card game ever.

It's like Magic: The Gathering,

Legend of the Five Rings, Sorcerer?

Only way better!

Breanna's recon today

suggests a strategy.

Cordozar is competitive and predatory

and cannot resist

exploiting an opportunity.

Let's go sell Mr. Cordozar

the Brooklyn Bridge.

Deric Springer. Self-proclaimed

poet and philanthropist,

created the game Spirit's

Ruse back in the 90s,

but he considers himself an

artist, not a businessman.

Moreover, he's a recluse. Kind

of walked away from it all.

No one in the community has

seen him in over a decade.

What about this game?

The game is a quest. It's made up

of magic cards and spirit cards,

representing Water, Fire and Earth.

Water beats Fire, Fire dominates Earth.

And Earth beats Water.

- So it's basically Rock, Paper, Scissors.

- No.

Yeah, it's kinda like

Rock Paper Scissors.

And here at Springer's Castle,

fans from all over the world

come to the property once

a year for an annual faire.

There are performances, there's cosplay,

and there's an annual treasure hunt

to find the famous Queen Ziel card.

I love treasure hunts. What

do we get if we find it?

Don't know. No one's ever found it.

But the big event at the festival

is the card game tournament.

Winner is crowned king,

or queen, of the faire.

Oh, my God.

This community has turned Spirit's Ruse

into a multi-million dollar business.

So when you said you were gonna

"sell him the Brooklyn Bridge",

you didn't mean that literally?

It's a shell game.

We convince Cordozar to buy

the company that makes the game.

Then we sell him a fake company.

So I get it. Because he's got to

put up all of his assets to buy it,

if it turns out to be

worthless, he loses everything,

including the pharmaceutical company.

Cordozar's already predisposed to

believe that the company's failing.

We just have to convince

him it's for sale

and he won't be able to resist.

Oh! Great.

I was hoping to catch you

two before you left for lunch.

Who the hell are you?

Billy? She temped for us the other day.

Said she always dreamed of

working for someone like you, sir.

You're outta luck,

kid. We're not hiring.

Actually, I wanted to talk to you

about buying Springer's Castle.

You?

Oh, I don't think so, sweetheart.

No, not me personally.

Uh, the people I work for.

Wai I thought you said that

I know. I'm really sorry,

Mr. Lagrange. I lied.

My employer sent me to find out if

Mr. Cordozar really owns the castle.

And you do!

You can tell your

boss it's not for sale.

Even at twice the price you paid for it?

Hundred percent profit,

that sounds good,

even for an experienced Vulture

Capitalist like yourself.

Twice the price? Why?

Why does your employer

want my castle so bad?

Well, I'm not at liberty to say.

But if you're interested

We won't be calling.

Think about it, gentlemen.

Follow her.

She went inside a couple

hours ago. Hasn't left.

Excuse me, who are you?

Uh, this is Mr. Cordozar.

I'm sorry, I'm afraid I'm

gonna have to ask you to leave.

Considering I own the property

you're hoping to develop,

I would expect you to be

a little more hospitable.

Did you bring them here?

- No, I swear

- Don't blame the kid.

We trailed her. Let's cut to the chase.

You want to buy my property

and develop it into

some sort of theme park.

Uh no.

A mystic experience.

Okay, uh

Well, judging by this dump,

you don't have the money.

Not yet, but I'm working

with a very large fund

who are ready to write a very

large check as soon as you tell us

you're ready to sell the property.

Oh, Springer will never let the

game company license the rights.

Oh, well, we're not going

to license the rights.

- We're buying the company.

- Billy!

Mm. Springer would

never sell the company.

He let me buy the castle,

but I had to agree to keep

hosting this stupid faire

for the next two years.

Lady, next time do your research.

I worked for Springer. These

designs were part of a project

that I headed up for the company.

You worked there?

I did. And then after

they k*lled my project,

I sought out Mr. Springer.

I found him in a Buddhist temple

in a remote village in India.

He was disillusioned with all of this.

He just wants to write his

sonnets now. He's primed to sell.

It's a one-game company.

They never would have sold me the

castle if it was worth anything.

They're struggling. But

they have a huge worldwide fan base.

And what was Lord of the Rings

before the movie franchise?

I've already had three

offers from three studios.

So you wanna buy the company

and sell the movies here,

the theme park rights there.

Tear it apart and sell the

pieces for more than the whole.

Aw. It's a pipe dream.

I don't need you to

believe, Mr. Cordozar.

I have the financial backing.

I just need you to agree

to sell me the property

for double what you paid.

Yeah, um

I think it's a dumb idea.

My castle's not for sale.

Did we screw that up?

Yup. We screwed it up

perfectly!

Notorious recluse.

Nobody's seen him in years.

He has no contact, no phone number.

The only way to reach him is this email.

I have an idea, sir.

That is a terrifying thought, Carter.

All right, fingers crossed

he responds to this email.

He took the bait. He wants to

have a meeting with Springer.

- How did you ?

- I may have rerouted his email server.

Okay, well, what happens now? A

little lawyer-lawyer negotiation?

- I play the lawyer?

- He won't go for that.

He'll want to go toe to

toe with Springer himself.

But we don't have a Springer. Do we?

But I look nothing like Springer.

Don't worry about that. No

one's seen him in a decade.

We'll just add a bit of

hair and some weight on you

and no one will know the difference.

You have to remember what Breanna said.

This guy thinks of himself as

an artist, not a businessman.

You have to convince Cordozar that

you've soured on the company, right?

Because all this money has ruined

the game's artistic integrity

and that is the reason

why you're willing to sell.

Trust me. You can do this.

Mm.

And don't negotiate like a lawyer.

Think curmudgeonly

self-important artist.

- You got this, man.

- Curmudgeonly. Self-important.

Can I help you, gentlemen?

Ah, Señor Cordozar,

it is my pleasure to introduce

you to my client. This is

Where the hell is he?!

I want to get a look at this guy.

Who the hell is this?

Mr. Cordozar, I'd like

you to meet Deric Springer,

inventor of the game Spirit's Ruse!

Mr. Springer, I'm so

sorry. I thought this was

I used our analytic program on the

game to predict where to find him.

And it worked!

So you want to talk about

buying my company, do you?

Well, you're in luck.

Because I'm finally ready to sell.

Honestly, I thought that

one was gonna be a layup.

Not only did we give Cordozar the

idea to double the size of his funds,

we gave him the company to do it!

Yeah, we practically handed him the

money to buy more drug companies.

I guess you can't win them all, huh?

Children are getting sick or are dying

because they can't

access the dr*gs they need

and big pharma is sitting on

cures that could be saving lives.

No.

We're not giving up on this one.

How many Jennas have to

suffer because we failed?

We know what this does to families.

To the parents.

We know what it did to

Nate when he lost his son.

I can't walk away from this one.

I just can't.

Um, I have an idea.

Okay

This part of the conversation

between Springer and Cordozar

Well, you bought the castle,

so I assume you're a fan.

Of course. I I've been playing

the game since middle school.

You know, I created the game

envisioning everything right there.

The pond became Elshoniere Lake,

the, uh, meadow, the

Lagerry b*ttlefield.

You know, I picture it every

time I walk the grounds.

- Do you?

- Hmm.

You know, I'm at a place

in my life where I feel like

I'm ready to sell the company.

And while I haven't much

cared for all the hype

and the commercialization,

I don't want to hand my

company over to someone

who isn't a true Spirit's Ruse fan.

Well, that is me.

I will take great care of

what you've created, sir.

How do I know that?

I can prove it to you.

I found the Queen Ziel card.

Oh, my!

You kept it in its original

casing in the original vault?

I figure it's been there for 20 years.

What safer place to keep it?

Well, now,

this just surprises me.

And you found the card on your own?

You solved all the riddles?

Look, I told you, I I love this game.

- My lawyers are drafting up contracts

- Uh-uh.

I work from a handshake.

I believe that a man is

only as good as his word.

The Faire is this Saturday, correct?

- Mm-hmm.

- We'll do it there.

Hmm.

And you can walk me through all the

clues you solved to find the vault.

Sure. Okay.

You hand me the Queen Ziel card,

and then I'll hand you my company.

And that's how we're gonna get him.

And what's the deal with

this Queen Ziel card?

Why is it so valuable?

Well, the Queen Ziel card is like

the holy grail of Spirit's Ruse.

I mean, it's legendary. It's the

first card Springer ever created.

He's kept it hidden in a

secret vault on the property.

And he left his fans

clues on how to find it.

But for over 20 years,

no one's been able to.

It's like his own Willy

Wonka golden ticket.

Ooh, is there a chocolate river?

I've always wanted to

swim in a chocolate river.

Shh. So he just has to hand

over the card to Springer

to prove that he's worthy

of owning his company.

Right, so if we get our hands on

this card before Cordozar does,

we can k*ll the deal.

How do we find the card?

Pull up that photo again.

We know the card is in its original

casing and still in the vault.

Oh, looks like he's piling

up file boxes in front of it.

Uh, florescent lighting, stone

cement walls, minimal security.

We find the vault, I can get the card.

Let's go steal a golden ticket.

Oh, it's so cute. It's

like a little baby castle.

Well, it's usually

closed during the faire.

But all the action is over there,

on the other side of the meadow.

Okay. Cordozar has to walk Springer

through how he solved the treasure hunt

when he takes him to the

vault to retrieve the card.

But Harry will get me into the

castle. I'll find the vault,

get the card, all before they get there.

And the rest of us

will buy you some time.

Breanna, find Cordozar

and keep him preoccupied.

All right, me and Sophie

will intercept Springer,

see if we can keep him away

from Cordozar as long as we can.

Oh, hey, Parker!

- Uh, take this.

- What is it?

It's my book. It's where I

keep my analysis and my drawings

and where I chart the clues.

These are your drawings?

They're beautiful.

You know, the game meant a lot to me.

Well, it did. As a kid.

Oh, keep it. I don't need it.

But you don't know the game.

I can help you with that.

- There's so much I could teach you

- I don't need to know the game.

Do you know how many

secret vaults I've found?

You do the game stuff,

I'll do the Parker stuff.

Harry!

Wait up!

Excuse me! Mind if I take

up a moment of your time?

I'm sent over from Local 686.

- Local what?

- 686, the security services union.

- You never heard of us?

- No.

We've got over 1200 members

representing the fine men and women

working in professional security

May I take a second to tell

you about some of the benefits

that our union has to offer?

We need to blend in. Choose an outfit.

Yeah, no, wait, hey.

You didn't mention anything

about dress-up, all right?

You didn't say that I

had to wear a costume!

If we're gonna get Springer's

trust, we have to convince him

- that we're genuine game aficionados.

- Soph

I'm not dressing like

a damn elf, or a troll.

We'll find something dignified then.

- Court jester?

- Not funny.

- Woodland fairy?

- Sophie!

Breanna, any luck finding Cordozar?

I'm walking towards the tournament

tent. It's the heart of the faire.

Everybody comes in here.

Springer should be arriving

any minute now. Do what you can.

Hello, Ms. Potts.

What the hell do you

think you're doing here?

Ah, well, I just came to

close the deal with Springer.

You're too late. I'm

buying the company myself.

You lose.

Well! Okay, we'll see about that.

You know I could just have

my man Bolo and his friends

throw you off the property. My property.

Why would you want to do that?

What, are you scared that

I'll step into the tent

and win the tournament?

Show Springer what a true fan I am?

Or are you scared that

you'll come in second place?

Again.

You touch me, and you'll

be singing soprano.

I need to win that tournament.

Springer will want you to take him

through how you found the vault.

And as soon as he asks me questions

about the treasure hunt clues,

he'll see right through me.

But if I win that tournament,

I'll have proven I'm worthy.

Bolo, if the Potts girl

is here, so is her boss.

Find Springer and get him to me

before she gets her claws in him.

Well, what if she finds Springer first?

Make her disappear.

You know his name is Jeffery.

Look at this nerd fest.

It's like a million

Hardisons walking around.

Huzzah! Ooh.

My lord Springer hath arrived.

Parker, how are you getting

on with finding that vault?

I've searched every

conceivable place for a vault.

And there isn't one!

That's what I've been

trying to tell you.

The game is a quest.

It's about following clues,

interpreting the mythology.

Trust me, I know hidden vaults.

And there is not one in the baby castle!

Okay, for 20 years, people have been

trying to find that secret vault.

I mean, hardcore devotees of

the game can't even find it.

Well, if it's not in the

castle, where else could it be?

Somewhere on the property. Hidden.

Wait, isn't there like,

44 acres on this property?

It could be anywhere.

- It's like a needle in a haystack.

- Pssh!

Why isn't everybody mobbing the guy?

I think he's been away for so

long, I guess nobody recognizes him.

It's a bit sad really.

My liege!

Mr. Springer!

Ah! Well

I see that someone still recognizes me.

I'm speechless, my good lord,

to meet the man who

created this amazing world.

And I see that you are dressed

as Milana, the Poetry Mistress.

And you, sir, Glenn the Savage!

Oh. At your service.

Ah, the jousting tournament.

I always did enjoy that.

Well, if you'll forgive

me, I have an appointment

that I need to keep, and I'm

afraid that it's business.

- No, no, no, no. No. Stay.

- Wait a second!

Stick around, stick around.

And cheer for Glenn the Savage

in the jousting tournament.

Yeah, you gotta wait

and watch wait, what?

Pleasure before business.

I always did enjoy the tournament.

Aw.

All right. Come, Glenn!

Show me your skills.

Jousting? With horses?

Better yet, dragons.

Okay, the speaker's in the ear support,

camera's hidden in the nose bridge.

- Just make sure I win this.

- Yeah.

I don't see anything.

If it were here, we should see

power lines, or ventilation access.

Breanna, you sure

this is the right clue?

Well, yeah, since

Cordozar found the card,

the treasure hunt pretty much stopped.

This is the clue that they were

using for the past 20 years.

Well, this clue says

"The origins unseen,

the designation unknown, find

where the imagination extends

beyond what the eye can see".

Yeah, as a kid, Springer

was inspired by the castle.

It's on the property, it's the origin.

You have to be on a part of the

grounds where you can't see the castle.

We are. How much of the grounds

can you not see from the castle?

A little less than half?

Well, that narrows it

down to about 22 acres.

You know, I've never liked riddles.

Our next joust is about to begin!

Meet our first combatant,

Glenn the Savage!

I feel like a damned idiot.

Break him.

And his opponent, Rage the Warrior!

Wait, wait, wait! Why doesn't he

have to wear the stupid dragon?

To Glenn the Savage!

Point, Rage!

Round two. Commence!

Explain this to me.

I don't know. This part looks new.

Glenn the Savage!

Glenn the Savage! Glenn the Savage!

Parker, Harry, are

you guys near the pond?

Yeah, pretty close. Why?

Remember when Springer said

he came up with Elshoniere Lake

by looking at the pond?

Well, the lake on the card is

longer than the pond is in real life.

Yeah, sure. We get it.

Lakes are bigger than ponds.

No, the clue said, "Find

where imagination extends

beyond what the eye can see." Right?

The vault is somewhere past the pond,

within the space of the imagined lake!

That does narrow it down a bit.

See? Knowing the game does matter.

Thank you, Breanna. We'll

let you know what we find.

You okay?

Well, what kind of mentor would I be

if she's the one teaching me things?

The best kind.

Look, this game is

something that she knows.

I think she's just trying

to connect with you.

Tell you a little something

about herself. You should let her.

And how do you know this?

Well, I'm a dad.

That's good.

You could have b*at

that guy three hands ago.

But you took your foot off his neck.

Well, as I always say,

the game is a quest.

It's as much about the

journey as it is the goal.

That's why you're gonna

lose this tournament.

You're so worried about being "nice".

You want to be a winner in this world?

You take, and take, and

take, and you don't look back.

You don't worry about who

gets hurt or who likes you.

You have to be willing to be a k*ller.

Like k*lling kids who

can't afford your dr*gs?

Time out.

Yeah, she's with Springer.

She brought her own muscle.

She's trying to steal the company.

Don't do anything to scare off

Springer, but the second you can,

you get him away from

them and over to me.

Magic! True father of science thou art!

Who brightens all things

with thy happy cries

Oh, I have really enjoyed this,

but I must get to my meeting.

But the sonnet recital!

I'm up next.

Oh, please, stay for

that. I beseech thee.

Oh, I've really kept

them waiting long enough.

Uh, tell him you're

reciting one of his sonnets.

"Magic's Breeze".

But I'm performing "Magic's Breeze".

I would be so honored

to perform that for you.

Ooh. I do love that one.

Okay, okay, but then we must part ways.

Did thou set Diana into

her car? And give her

Are we playing cards here or not?

Yeah.

Thanks.

The Mystic of Resolve.

The Blue-eyed dragon.

Oh, my God.

Uh, time out.

Yeah. Sorry, it's my mom.

Just one second.

Because not all Fire

Spirit cards are equal,

the computer program is saying that

she can only play one of two cards.

You have an 86 percent

chance of winning.

Springer's gonna be here any second.

He needs to see me winning this game.

You sure the computer is right?

Yes, my algorithm knows

everything about this game.

It found Springer, it found the vault,

and it will win you this tournament.

Of course he's cheating.

There's no way he could

have solved this on his own.

Hey, Breanna

Any chance you could just

access that same program

and find the vault for us?

I could if I knew how

and where to access it

but that's gonna take some time, guys.

Which we don't have, but, uh

good job on getting

us in the right area.

Great job.

Thank you, Breanna.

Now we've just got to get lucky.

- Ah! You're just in time.

- Where

Milana's about to take the stage.

- Oh, that's great.

- Yeah.

That's great.

"Hold, O dearest wind of fate!

Go gently near'st my dreams.

For fortune finds it cannot wait.

Just past Elshoniere's small

smallest, smallest, streams."

Elshoniere Lake.

Elshoniere Lake is how you narrow

it down. The clue in the sonnet.

Are you going to play

a card in this century?

The sonnet is the key.

"Where I sit and ponder heaven

beneath the old squid tree."

There's a stream coming off the pond.

What is a squid tree?

A squid has eight arms. Find

a tree with eight branches.

"I shake off fear and then depression,

thinking that I cannot be,

but when mine eyes awaken,

and in my grasp I seize

what love's loss has not taken,

and I thank this magic breeze.

For though fate has twisted

all I thought I knew,

a simple turn of luck known by very few

would open up this

world to me and now

with heart exposed,

I open up to you."

Whoa!

Hey! You found the vault!

Yes!

Yes what?

Uh, yes, I have figured

out my next move.

That's

Guys, we lost Springer.

You better get that card fast.

Seriously, no lock?

I guess he figured that

the riddle was the lock.

It's not here. We're too late.

Cordozar must have the card on him.

Okay

That's impossible.

There's no way you could have known

my next card was a flight spirit.

A flight spirit? Wow!

Really? That's cool.

You cheated. You looked

through my glasses at my cards.

Seriously? I mean, how

could I have done that?

It's not as though you have a

camera built into your glasses.

Fine.

New deck. Final round.

We're running out of time.

Springer's entering the tent now.

He gives him that card,

then this deal is closed.

Oh, hold on!

We might've found something even better.

Time out.

Well, I see I got here

at the perfect time, huh?

During the championship round.

You really are a fan of the game.

Of course.

If I weren't a serious fan,

could I have found this?

Indeed.

The original Queen Ziel card.

Huh!

You're too late.

Mr. Springer just

sold the company to me.

And what collateral exactly will

you be using to make that purchase?

Because in a couple of hours, the

FDA's gonna freeze all your assets.

What are you talking about? Who are you?

Oh, I guess you thought since no one

found the Queen Ziel card in your vault

it was, like, super safe.

So you decided to hide all

your own valuables in the vault,

including all your research

on the cure for Swale fever.

You were right!

He keeps all of his

companies' secrets in here.

Every dirty trick he ever had them do.

How did you get all

that from a photograph?

It's a gift.

We sent the cure to

all your competitors,

so now the drug

treatments are worthless.

And because you took all those

millions from the CARES Act

for a cure that you

already had, that's fraud.

And even if you don't go to jail,

you're going to lose

Pendis Pharmaceuticals.

And you will be banned from ever

buying another drug company again.

Give me that.

You know what? It doesn't

matter. Screw the drug companies.

They're nothing in comparison

to how much I'm gonna make

from Springer's game company.

You don't have any money

left to buy it with.

I don't need any. I

have the Queen Ziel card.

You said a man is only

as good as his word.

You said if I gave you that

card, the company is mine.

Well, you have the card.

I am a man of my word.

- Hm.

- And what about your word to me?

To all these people who love

the game that you created?

He found the card.

Then why isn't he walking you

through the quest to the vault?

Showing you how he did

it? Because he can't.

A computer program did.

Nevertheless, I have the card.

I'm afraid it really

is just a business now.

It, uh, it has been for quite some time.

Not to us!

Not to all the people here who came

from across the world

to be at your faire.

To share in the community

that you created.

People who grew up feeling

like they don't belong.

Like they're strange

for the way they think.

The way they dream.

Or the way they love.

It's people like me.

And your game made us feel like

we weren't alone in the world.

Like we could belong.

Like we do belong.

We belong in myth.

I'm sorry.

I can't sell you my company.

What happened to being

as good as your word?

Well

I guess I'm not that good.

Jenna's doctors say

she's responding well.

I I mean, the cure works.

They say she'll be free

of this in a few weeks.

That's wonderful, Michael.

And how did you guys

get Pendis Pharmaceutical

to pay for all the medical bills?

Well, let's just say the new

owners are happy, and even happier

to avoid a class action lawsuit.

They've actually agreed to pay

the medical expenses of everyone

who's ever tried their treatments.

I can't thank you two enough.

I mean, I don't know how

I'm ever gonna repay you.

Well, knowing that Jenna and

others like her are gonna be fine

is all the payment we needed.

Well I needed.

- Thank you.

- Mmm.

Good luck.

- Boom!

- Scoot over!

You need to explain

the rules to me again.

If we're playing for

money I'll pick it up.

Oh, don't worry about it.

Breanna's a really good teacher.

You just have to have an open mind.

Okay, so the deck is made of

spirit cards and magic cards,

Can't we just play

Rock, Paper, Scissors?

- Harry! Think fast!

- Let's play Texas Hold 'Em, man.

All right, three, two, one,

flip the first card over and

- Fire!

- I won!

- We just

- I won!

Cheers! You won!

Let's play again.

Fire, fire beats

Ah, beginner's luck.

I've already lost, like, six cool points

just by hanging with you guys tonight.
