Gordon always pulled the big express.
He was proud of being the only engine
strong enough to do so
and Gordon was seeing
how fast he could go.
"Hurry, hurry!" he said.
"Tickety-tock!" said the coaches.
ln a minute he would see Henry,
bricked-up and lonely.
"Why did l worry about
rain spoiling my paint?
"Will the Fat Controller ever let me out?"
"l'm going to 'poop-poop' at Henry,"
said Gordon.
But suddenly... (Hissing)
Gordon was going slower and slower!
His driver stopped the train.
"l feel so weak," said Gordon.
"You've burst a safety valve,"
said the driver.
"Oh, dear!" said Gordon,
"And look, Henry's laughing at me."
Everyone came to see Gordon.
The Fat Controller said, "Big engines
always go wrong! Send for another."
They uncoupled Gordon, who had
enough puff to move out of the way.
Edward was the only engine left.
"l'll try!" he said. (Whistles)
"Huh!" said Gordon, "That's no use.
Edward can't push the train."
Edward puffed and pushed
but he couldn't move the coaches.
"l told you so," said Gordon.
"Why not let Henry try?"
"Yes!" said the Fat Controller.
"Will you help pull this train, Henry?"
"Oh, yes!" said Henry.
When Henry had got up steam,
he puffed out.
"Ooh, l am stiff," he groaned.
"Have a run to ease your joints,"
said the Fat Controller.
When Henry came back
he felt much better.
They coupled him up.
"Peep-peep!" said Edward, "l'm ready."
"So am l," said Henry.
"Pull hard, we'll do it!"
they puffed together.
(Whistles)
"We've done it together!" they said.
"You've done it!" sang the coaches.
The Fat Controller leaned out of the
window to wave at Edward and Henry
but the train was going so fast,
his hat blew off and a goat ate it!
They never stopped till they came to
the station at the end of the line.
The Fat Controller promised Henry
a new coat of paint.
Edward and Henry
helped Gordon back to the shed.
They are all now great friends.
Henry knows the best way
to keep his paint nice
is to ask his driver
to rub him down each day.
