- And the three little

mouselings scampered

through the forest as

fast as they could.

- Run mouselings, run!

- But the Chipping Cheddar

Witch leapt on her broomstick

and soared through the

air high above the trees.

Then she said the magic words.

- [Both] Magic wand,

do as I please.

Turn these mice

into stinky cheese!

- And they all got turned

(girls laugh)

into stinky cheese.

- (gasps) No!

- Oh, Henry, don't

be such a baby.

It's only a story.

- But what if the witch tries

to turn me into stinky cheese?

- Hmm...

Well, Henry, I have heard

that if you sprinkle

pepper on her tail,

then she'll be the one who

turns into stinky cheese.

- Oh.

(Henry gasps)

- Are those cheesy

bonbons, Mr. Mouseling?

- Yes, Alice, they are.

- Oh goody.

- [Mr. Mouseling] But

they're for Miss Lilly,

she's picking them up later.

- Oh. (sighs)

- Aha!

There.

Pretty good, even

if I say so myself.

I'll just put it out to dry.

(Mr. Mouseling hums)

- Let's go make our costume

for the Halloween party.

- Oh, race you upstairs.

(both laugh)

- Wait for me!

- See.

- Oh.

Oh look!

This tree monster

costume will be perfect.

We'll need some

leaves and twigs.

- [Alice] And something

really scary for the head.

- Can I be a tree monster, too?

- No, Henry.

You have to have

your own costume.

Um...

Oh!

I know!

You can be a ghost.

- But I don't want

to be a ghost.

I was a ghost last year,

and no one was scared of me.

I want to be something

really scary,

and frighten away the

Chipping Cheddar Witch!

(Henry whimpers)

There.

- But...

But I...

- You're right, Alice.

We need a great big, scary mask.

- But what kind of head

does a tree monster have?

- I'll, I'll make

my own costume then,

and it'll be much more scary

than your tree monster.

(Henry whimpering)

(objects clatter)

Oh!

Ow!

- Wrong door, Henry.

(ball squeaks)

- Oh!

Hmph!

(Henry whimpering)

- Of course, every witch

needs a broomstick.

You can have mine.

(witch laughs)

(Henry panting)

(Henry gasps)

- The Chipping Cheddar Witch!

(gasps) Aah!

Angelina!

- What do you think?

- You know, cheddar toffees

don't taste as good as-

- Alice, will you

please pay attention?

- [Henry] Angelina!

- Oh!

(Angelina yelps)

Oh!

- Ow!

(Henry groans)

- Henry!

(Henry whimpers)

- Hmm, needs more leaves.

- I've just seen the

Chipping Cheddar Witch!

- We don't have time for

your baby games, Henry.

We're making the most

magnificent costume

Chipping Cheddar has ever seen.

- She had a pointy hat

and a big black cloak!

And, and she-

- Henry!

We're busy.

(Henry whimpers)

- It's not fair.

She never listens

to anything I s...

(gasps) Pepper!

That will turn her

into stinky cheese.

Hmm...

(Henry giggles)

(suspenseful music)

(both scream)

- Ah...

Achoo!

Oh!

Ah...

Achoo!

- You're not the

Chipping Cheddar Witch!

- Of course, I'm not.

That's just a story.

- But I've seen her!

Come on, I'm too

scared to go by myself.

And we've got to catch her

before she turns everyone

into stinky cheese!

- But I was going

to see Angelina.

- Angelina's busy.

Come on!

- Okay.

(doubtful music)

It's no use, Henry.

We've looked everywhere.

- She's escaped.

- Maybe you just

imagined the witch.

- No, I saw her

walking up the lane.

- [William] Oh, Henry.

The Chipping Cheddar

Witch is just-

- (gasps) William!

Look! (gasps)

- [William] Oh, crumbs.

- Follow that witch!

Angelina?

Angelina, where are you?

- Boo!

- Oh! (yells)

(Angelina laughs)

Oh!

You made me spill my toffees.

- I'm sorry, Alice.

(Angelina laughs)

I'll help you pick them up.

Hey, look, I'm a tree monster.

- And I'm the Chipping

Cheddar Witch.

(Alice laughs)

Magic wand, do as I please.

Turn Angelina into

stinky cheese!

(both laugh)

- She's been there ages.

(door slams open)

(boys gasp)

- [Henry] Uh-oh.

(Henry gasps)

(suspenseful music)

- We better make sure

Mrs. Thimble's all right.

(doubtful music)

- Mrs. Thimble?

- Mrs. Thimble?

- Where can she be?

Oh, oh!

(can clatters)

Ouch!

Yuck! (whimpers)

Oh!

Mmm.

Want some?

- No, Henry.

We're supposed to be

looking for Mrs. Thimble.

(gasps) Henry, look.

(Henry gasps and whimpers)

- [Both] Mrs. Thimble's been

turned into stinky cheese!

(both scream)

Oh no!

- (gasps) Look, the witch!

- Oh crumbs.

(Henry grunts)

- This way, William.

- What?

Oh, right.

That's strange.

I was sure I heard

someone in the shop.

Oh well.

I hope it wasn't the

- Did you think I

was the real witch?

- How do we know you're not?

- Because, Henry,

it's Miss Lilly.

the cheesy bonbons

for tonight's party.

I forgot them when

I was here earlier.

See you at the party.

- [All] Bye, Miss Lilly.

- (gasps) Henry, that's a

fantastic tree monster costume.

- Alice, are you thinking

what I'm thinking?

(girls laugh)

- Yes, it's a wonderful costume!

(merrymakers chattering)

- Well, darlings, I must-

(Henry grunting)

- [Henry] I can't see.

- [Angelina] Shush,

I'm trying to listen.

That's just a lump of

cheese from the cauldron.

(Henry sniffing)

- It is not.

It's stinky!

And step, step.

Turn and finish.

Hold still.

Everyone.

And relax.

(students sighing)

Well done, my darlings.

Now, before you go,

I have some news.

I am sure you remember

Anya Mousezauski

who came to our little

village last year.

Anya is from my beautiful

homeland Dacovia.

And her parents have asked me

if this summer she can come

to Chipping Cheddar

to learn ballet.

(students exclaim)

- That will nice.

- Alice, isn't that wonderful!

- Yes, it'll be fun!

- Oh! (laughs)

- I want to know, please,

if anyone can have Anya to stay?

- Please, mom!

She won't be any trouble.

You know she won't.

(Mrs. Mouseling laughs)

- Of course, she won't, darling,

but where will she sleep?

- In my room, of course!

Dad will move another bed in.

(Mr. Mouseling grunts)

Won't you, dad?

- It'll be a tight squeeze.

- [Mrs. Mouseling] And

it's for a long time.

- Mom, but I don't mind!

I want to share my room.

Dad!

Oh, Anya, we're going to

have the best summer ever.

We'll do everything together,

with Alice of course.

- Thank you, Angelina.

What shall I do with these?

- I'll put them over here with

mine, if I can get through.

Oops. (giggles)

(girls giggle)

Oh, there.

This can be our library.

We'll share everything, Anya.

What's mine is yours, okay?

- Like the Kingfishers.

- Kingfishers?

- Yes, there is an

old Dacovian story

about two Kingfishers who

are really good friends

and stay together for

the whole of their lives.

Where shall I put this?

- You can leave it

there, actually.

I like to have it on at night.

- Really?

I never have a lamp on at night.

- Oh, you all look really happy.

- Yes.

It's the first time I've been

away from my mum and dad.

- Oh, everyone will

love you, Anya.

We'll be your summer family.

- But, you know, will I fit in?

I've never done ballet before.

I haven't even got the

proper dress or anything.

- It's called a tutu.

(enchanted music)

Oh, here.

You can borrow one of mine.

- Thanks, Angelina.

- Don't worry, Anya.

I promise I'll look after you.

(upbeat music)

- Yes, yes, very

good, my darlings.

Very good, Anya,

just follow Angelina.

That's right.

Well done, everyone.

Now we have a little rest.

One minute.

- Oh, you danced so well, Anya,

as if you've been

doing ballet for ages.

- I like your tutu.

- [Students] Me too,

it's really pretty.

- Yes, it's lovely, Anya.

It's mine-

- I like your tutu, hmph!

- Pity about your patch ear.

(sisters laugh)

- You're just jealous

because Miss Lilly thinks

she's a better dancer than you.

- [Sisters] Hmph!

- Quiet, please, darlings.

As most of you know,

we have a special evening

here soon for your parents.

So now I want you to

work with a partner

to make a dance to show them.

- [Student] I'm so excited!

- [William] Oh yes,

it'll be fantastic.

- Um...

Uh, Miss Lilly, can I

dance with Anya, please!

- We want to be Kingfishers

like in the old story.

- Oh, the Kingfishers!

A dance of friendship.

How lovely, my darlings.

Of course you must!

(delicate piano music)

Very nice, darlings.

And you, Anya, you

are doing so well!

- [Angelina] Oh!

- [Anya] Thank you.

- Come here a minute,

Angelina darling.

The Dacovian Ballet is coming

to the Theater Royal again.

I think it's a good idea for me

to invite Anya this

year, don't you?

- Oh, um...

Yes, Miss Lilly.

- And tell your mother

I'm really looking forward

to dinner tonight.

- Yes.

(Anya and Polly laughing)

- Hello.

- But Miss Lilly

always takes me.

It's not fair.

- I'm sure she'll take

you next year, darling.

It's just that with

Anya being Dacovian,

I expect Miss Lilly thought

it would be a treat for her.

- Shall I give Polly her

bottle, Mrs. Mouseling?

- Oh, would you, Anya?

You're so good with babies.

- So am I!

- Of course you are, dear.

- Here, Angelina, you do it.

- Come here, Polly.

(Polly wails)

Oh.

- Oh, delicious, Matilda.

Even better than usual.

- We have Anya to

thank for that.

She suggested I add paprika.

- And I'm going to

show Mrs. Mouseling

how to make nutmeg and

blue cheese souffle

like my mum does.

- Mmm, sounds wonderful.

- What do you think of our

Kingfisher costumes, Miss Lilly?

- My darling, they're divine!

What a clever mother you have.

And what a talented friend!

This little mouseling is

learning ballet so fast.

Soon I think she

will be applying

to the Dacovian Ballet Academy.

- Well, if you could put

up with my fiddle playing,

I'd love to see you dance, Anya.

- Um, we'll do our King Fi-

- How about the

Dacovian Polka, Anya?

- Oh.

(uneasy music)

- Everyone's being

really nice and kind,

but oh, I do miss you.

Mwah.

- That's my bed!

- Oh, I thought we were

sharing everything.

- Yes, well...

I'm not so sure now.

- Why Angelina?

Is something wrong?

- Yes, there is, actually.

If you want to know, I'm

sick and tired of hearing

about how talented you are,

and I'm sick and

tired of hearing

about how great Dacovia is.

- But Miss Lilly misses Dacovia

like me, and that's why we-

- Well, perhaps, you

want to have stayed

with Miss Lilly then!

- Oh!

- I have it on.

- Oh.

(bird warbling)

(Angelina yawns)

- Is it time to get up yet?

Anya? (gasps)

Anya?

Where are you?

Anya!

Oh!

Oh!

- There there, my darling.

(Polly gibbers)

- Oh, oh!

Have you seen Anya, mom?

- No, isn't she in your room?

- Oh!

Oh!

(phone rings)

- Hello?

Oh, hello, Miss Lilly.

Anya is at your house?

Good gracious, I...

I had no idea.

- Oh!

Oh!

- I am very disappointed

in you, darling, very.

How would you like to be

away from your parents

for such a long time, huh?

- I wouldn't, Miss Lilly.

Oh, dear, I've been

so horrid to her.

- And now she wants

to stay here with me.

- Yes.

Miss Lilly, I'm

truly, truly sorry.

Please, can I see

Anya and apologize?

- Of course you can, my darling.

I'll go and get her.

(soft harp music)

(Angelina whimpers)

- Um...

My darling?

I am so sorry,

but Anya says she does

not wish to see you.

- Oh!

- [Miss Lilly] Perhaps

you should wait

and speak to her at ballet.

(students chattering)

(door hinges creak)

- Um...

Oh, Anya!

Anya!

(Miss Lilly clapping)

- Quiet, please, everyone.

Thank you.

Now, please, will you

practice your pieces

for our special evening?

- Anya, I'm really sorry!

- I don't want to dance

with you anymore, Angelina.

I want do dance with Alice.

- [Angelina] Oh!

- I'm really sorry, Angelina.

- It's not your fault,

Alice, it's mine.

I just wish she'd

let me apologize.

- She wants to go on

practicing after lunch.

- Does she?

- Yes, by the river,

so we can really get the

feel of being Kingfishers.

(Angelina gasps)

- Costumes would help

you, too, wouldn't they?

- Oh, yes.

Yes, they would.

(doubtful music)

- We can...

Uh, we can rehearse in these.

Here's yours.

- Thank you, Alice.

- It's a lovely place, Anya.

It's just right for Kingfishers.

- We better start then.

From the beginning.

One, two, three.

One, two, three.

(fantastical music)

- Aah!

(Anya gasps)

I'm sorry, Anya, I really am.

(Anya sobs)

- I'm sorry, too!

- We're both sorry.

(both sobbing)

Wasn't the prince amazing?

- Oh, yes!

- Thank you, Miss Lilly.

It was fantastic!

- It was the best

show I've ever seen.

- And to think my

darling Angelina believed

she was not to come to the

Dacovian Ballet this year.

Well, of course, I had

three tickets all along.

(all laughing)

- I can't believe it's

your last night here.

Cheese ball?

- No, no thanks.

I'm full up.

Here, I-

- No, no, you've got to keep it!

Oh, but I-

- Please.

What's mine is yours, remember?

- Thanks, Angelina.

(Anya laughs)

(Angelina yawns)

- I'm tired now.

- Me too.

(Angelina laughs)

- No.

I like it on.

- But I like it off.

(Angelina laughs)

- [Angelina] On.

- Off. (laughs)

- On.

- Off. (both laugh)

(gentle music)

(playful music)

- [Angelina] It wasn't

easy trying to dance

like a Kingfisher,

but Miss Lilly showed us how

to copy the way they move.

Birds move in lots

of different ways,

'cause they're all unique

just like these glove puppets.

(birds squeaking)

I wonder what they're

chattering about.

Anastasia is being a stork,

and she's doing a step

called the Stork Walk.

I wonder what Toby's being?

He's got his nose in the

air and he's strutting.

And he's got lovely plumage.

I know!

He's being a peacock.

Charlotte is fluttering

her wings very, very fast,

and she's moving very quickly.

She's being a hummingbird!

Hmm, that silly walk

reminds me of something.

I know.

Antonia's being a penguin.

(hen clucking)

Antonia, Charlotte, and

Paloma are all pretending

to be the same kind of bird.

One that sticks its neck

out when it's walking.

They're pretending

to be chickens.

Little Scarlett and Anastasia

are eggs that are hatching.

That's very funny.

(mythical music)

It must've been fun

being a chicken,

but I think I'll stick to being

a Kingfisher like Scarlett.

(fantastical orchestral music)
