- Hello, alice.

We'll leave for the picnic

In a little bit.

- Oh, I came to tell you

I have to go early,

So I'll see you there.

- But why are you going early?

- It's a surprise.

- [Gasps]

- Hmm.

- I wonder what it will be.

[Birds chirping]

[Distant rock music]

- How lovely.

I didn't know there'd be

Rock and roll music

At the park today.

My mum and dad

Used to dance to this.

- You mean grandma

And grandpa?

- You bet.

And they even taught us

Their favorite dances.

[Giggles]

First a little twist...

And then the swim.

- [Giggles]

Come on, polly.

Let's dance.

And then we'll swim.

- Come, angelina.

I have something to show you.

- It's a tambourine.

- I love it.

- You hold it

And tap it.

[Jingly tapping]

- Like a drum.

- Or shake it.

[Jingling]

- Jingle-jingle.

- It's gonna add

A cool sound to our song.

Got to go.

- Thanks a.z.

Now I can shake,

Rattle, and roll.

[Jingling]

- You're good, angelina.

- [Giggling]

[Applause]

Angelina tambourine-a.

[Cameras clicking]

- Angelina tambourine-a.

- Angelina. Angelina.

Angelina.

It's time for you girls

To get ready for bed.

There's school tomorrow.

- And that's when I play

In the band.

[Panting]

I've been practicing

The tambourine.

And I have some ideas.

Look.

[Jingling]

- Incredible, angelina.

- Now, the tambourine

Has three cues in our song.

- Cues?

- That's how many times

You play.

- What?

I only hit the tambourine

Three times?

- We got the rest covered.

Bass and drums carry

The rock and roll rhythm.

Both: that's us.

- Vici does the harmony.

[Electric guitar lick]

I sing the melody.

- But--but...

- And you get to hit

The tambourine three times.

It'll be great.

Rehearsal is after school,

Everybody.

Don't be late.

- [Sighs]

[Waltz-like music]

♪ ♪

Whoa.

- Excellent, class.

- But I didn't get

The pique right.

- Don't worry.

Just practice and try again.

I heard there's going

To be a rock and roll band

At lunch tomorrow.

Is that true?

- That's right.

You should come.

- Sounds like fun.

- Let's go, angelina.

We have band practice.

- I'll be right there.

[Instruments tuning]

- Where's angelina?

- [Gasps]

Oh.

Oof.

[Sighs]

That's not right.

- Should we start without her?

- Nope, we should practice

All together.

- That's it.

I did it.

Oh, no, the band.

[Racing music]

Oops. Sorry I'm late.

- We were waiting.

- But I only play three times

In the whole song.

Don't worry.

I'll get it right.

- Angelina,

You missed your cue.

- Oops.

[Giggles]

- You were suppose to hit

- Sorry.

[Giggles]

- Uh-oh.

Angelina,

That's the second time.

- I'll get it right

The third time.

[Soft crash]

- Uh, angelina,

We were thinking.

- We've been working really hard

On our band.

- And we want our song

To be really amazing.

- And if everyone

Doesn't do their best--

- And it doesn't seem like

You really care that much.

- So we decided not to use

The tambourine after all.

- What?

Oh.

My tambourine part

Is so tiny,

And my friends are making it

Seem so important.

[Timer ticking]

Ding!

- Bread's ready.

That doesn't look like bread.

- Mm, yes.

Something is wrong.

Let's see if we put in

All the ingredients.

- We put in flour.

- And honey and salt

And eggs and--

Oh, did we put in the--

- Uh-oh.

- Yup, we forgot

The baking soda.

- Just a little tiny bit.

- That little bit is what causes

The bread to grow big

And get light

And taste yummy.

- [Gasps]

Oh, no.

I forgot one of my drawings

At school.

Now I can't show it to you

Until tomorrow.

- That's not a big problem.

- I know.

[Sighs]

I guess I'll practice

My dance.

- Let's dance,

Angelina ballerina.

- I need to do three twirls

In a row,

Or it just doesn't work.

- One little twirl

Makes it all different.

- Right.

Aha!

- Where you going?

- I see now

How every little thing

Is making

A big difference today,

Like the bread and my drawing

And my dance and--

But, oh, how am I going

To make it up to my friends?

- Okay, all set up.

- Wow, you got everything

Ready for us.

- Uh-huh.

- Excellent.

- Before, I didn't understand

How important

My little tambourine part was.

- It is, angelina.

- Would you give me

One more chance?

- I think we should.

- Cool.

- Okay.

- Sure.

And together we did

Now it's time to meet

Camembert's shining stars.

- I'm eliza.

- I'm adrianna.

- I'm byron.

- I'm emma.

We are the tap city

Youth ensemble.

All: ♪ ba da da da dah ♪

[Upbeat clacking music]

- I started dancing

When I was seven.

[Feet clicking]

- I like the rhythm.

And I like being

With my friends.

- The sounds

That come out of your feet

Are, like,

Really, really cool.

[Feet clicking]

- Whenever I tap-dance,

It's like whatever energy

I have, I put into my feet.

- The piece

That we're performing

Is in honor

Of bill "bojangles" robinson,

A very famous tap dancer.

And it is a collection

Of his most favorite steps.

Tap dancing is like drumming

Because the same sounds

That can come out of a drum

Can also come out of our feet.

- Here are the taps

That make the sounds.

Um, this one usually

Makes a lighter sound,

And this one

Is a deeper sound.

- Learning new things,

Like steps that you don't know,

Is always hard.

But once you practice,

It's pretty easy.

- I like dancing so much

Because I'm around my friends

All the time,

But I'm still doing something

That I love to do.

- It's not every day

A mouseling gets to skate first

In a big ice show.

But today I get my chance.

[Sprightly violin music]

♪ ♪

I'll be the only mouseling

On the ice,

Skating in front

Of everybody.

Wish me luck.

♪ ♪

- Angelina ballerina,

Wake up.

- [Yawns]

Oh, polly,

Was I dreaming,

Or is my ice show

Really today?

- It's really, really,

Really today.

Come on, wake up.

- Alice, I can't believe

The day is finally here.

I hope I don't make

Any mistakes.

- You've been practicing

For weeks.

I know you'll do great.

I feel it in my toes.

- How do I look?

- Perfect.

What about me?

- Double perfect.

[Both giggling]

- Okay, let's see.

Lunches?

- Got 'em.

- Skates?

- Got 'em.

- Just one more

Teeny practice jump.

Oops.

That was more like a plop.

- I-i think you

Were moving too fast,

Faster than the music

Was going.

- Angelina. Alice.

- Hmm?

- You'd better get going,

Girls.

- Yeah, we're going

To need plenty of time

If we're gonna practice

And have lunch before the show.

Come on.

Off to the ice rink we go.

- Just a minute, girls.

You have a big, busy day

Ahead of you.

You need to keep track

Of the time and of your things.

- Don't worry about us.

We'll be the most responsible

Mouselings in all of mouseland.

- Do you have

Everything you need?

- Got it all.

- What about these?

- [Giggles]

- Oops, sorry.

- [Clears throat]

[Both gasping]

And these?

- Double oops.

Thank you.

- Bye, angelina.

Bye-bye, alice.

- Hmm.

The arabesque spin is the move

That's hardest for me.

- Mine is the axel.

But I know I'm going

To get it right.

Here I go again.

- [Humming melody]

- Oh. Oof.

I moved slower that time,

And it still went wrong.

- That time, you moved

More slowly than the music.

- First I was too fast.

Now I'm too slow.

Matching my spins

To the tempo is tough.

[Gasps]

Oh, no.

We forgot our lunches.

- Uh-oh.

- Oops, sorry.

I didn't know birds

Liked jelly sandwiches.

[Sighs]

[Sprightly violin music]

♪ ♪

Here goes the axel again.

♪ ♪

- Cool.

You followed the tempo,

And you were great.

- Thanks, alice.

- Watch this.

- [Clapping]

Stupendous.

[Both laughing]

We're the most

Ready-for-our-ice-show

Ice-skaters

In all of mouseland.

- Yay.

All this practicing

Has made me hungry.

- If we hurry,

We have just enough time

To go to mrs. Thimble's store

To get a smoothie.

Mmm.

I can already taste a delicious

Berry and milk smoothie.

- [Giggles]

Me too.

Scrumptious.

- I know I'll be fine

If I remember to skate faster

When the tempo

Of the music is faster.

- I have an idea.

Let's practice.

Try this.

[Both giggling]

See?

You can keep the tempo.

- Thanks, alice.

I'll try to remember it

At the ice show.

- I'll keep my fingers crossed

For you.

- And your toes?

- Of course.

Uh-oh.

Either we're drinking

Our smoothies too slowly,

Or that clock

Is really fast.

- Only a few minutes

To get back to the ice rink.

We can't be late.

[Both panting]

[Both panting]

- We made it.

That was quick.

- Just in time to warm up.

Let's stretch our arms

Down to the ground.

And now let's stretch our arms

Up to the sky.

Good.

Lace up those skates,

And let's glide like swans

Onto the ice

For a practice run.

Onto the ice,

My lovely swans.

- [Gasps]

Oh, no.

Oh, no. Oh, no.

- Oh, what?

- My skates,

They're not here.

- Are you sure?

- But where are they?

Where?

- We'll figure this out.

Slow down and take

A deep breath and focus.

- [Breathes deeply]

- Okay, good.

Now retrace your steps.

Where did you two go?

- Let's see.

My house...

I left my house

Without the skates.

Wait.

Alice, you took the skates

From the house.

Hmm.

[Gasps]

The park.

I forgot my skates

At the park.

- No.

We forgot our sandwiches

At the park.

I know.

We almost left them here

After practice.

- But we came back

For them, remember?

Then we went

And drank our smoothies.

You carried our skates out

Of mrs. Thimble's general store.

- No, angelina.

I carried my skates

Out of the store.

- Oh, no.

I left my ice skates

At mrs. Thimble's.

Do I have time

To get them, ms. Mimi?

- Yes, but hurry.

There are only

A few minutes left.

- [Gasps]

[Panting]

[Breathing heavily]

You missed the opening,

Angelina.

- [Panting]

[Sprightly violin music]

[Applause]

- Ah.

- If I'd only paid

More attention.

- You can be

In the next number.

[Waltz-like piano music]

And you were super fantastic.

- You skated beautifully today,

Angelina.

- But I'm sorry

I lost my skates

And missed

The beginning of the show.

- We can all get careless.

- You bet.

[Yelps]

[Giggles]

[All giggling]

- Hola. Marco here.

Whoa, is that violin

Missing a middle?

Nah, that's an electric violin.

It's supposed

To look like that.

You plug it in, and the music

Comes out of a speaker.

And over here

Is an acoustic viola.

Acoustic means the sound comes

Right from the instrument.

Violas and violins

Are string instruments

That were only used

For classical music at first.

But now they are used

For jazz, rock--

Oh, you name it.

Man, those guys really make

The strings sing.

- Hello,

I'm angelina ballerina,

And today

I'm watching my friends

Perform an irish step dance.

Do you see how their feet

And legs move quickly?

But the top part of their bodies

Hardly move at all.

They're wearing hard shoes

That are like tap shoes,

Which make a sound every time

They hit the floor.

Tap actually began

With irish step dance.

It's stupendous to watch

And even more fun to try.
