[laughter]

[cheerful music]

- Whoo-hoo!

♪ ♪

When I was in China,

I made lots of new friends

and saw many new things.

I had to learn new things, too,

as you're about to see.

[whistle toots]

All aboard

for a big adventure!

♪ ♪

[Thomas narrating]

[flute music]

♪ ♪

- Help!

Oh, no!

[dramatic music]

♪ ♪

[engine chugging]

- No, no, no!

Whoa, whoa!

Whoa!

♪ ♪

- Don't worry, Lei!

I'm right here,

and I'm going to help you!

- Whoa!

♪ ♪

- [humming]

♪ ♪

♪ La, la, la, la-la-la-la ♪

- Whoa, whoa, whoa!

I can't stop!

I can't stop!

- Someone's in trouble.

They need my help.

[mystical music]

[intense music]

♪ ♪

Hi-yah!

♪ ♪

Ha!

♪ ♪

- Whoa!

♪ ♪

Thank you.

- Wow, Thomas!

What a hero!

- You really are number !

[laughs]

[triumphant music]

[dramatic music]

- Thomas to the rescue!

♪ ♪

- Don't worry, Lei!

I'm going to switch tracks

to get in front of you,

and then slow down...

- I've got you!

♪ ♪

[slow motion]

- Whoa!

♪ ♪

[sighs]

Oh, hi, Thomas.

- Yes!

I did it!

I saved the day!

- I know you were trying

to help, Thomas,

but that wasn't the right way

to stop the car.

- But I really did

stop the car.

I saved the day.

- Yes,

but you also flipped Lei

right off the tracks.

- Oh, don't worry about me.

I'm completely fine.

[goofy music]

- I was getting ready

to stop Lei

in a different way,

a etter way.

- What do you mean,

a better way?

- Have you seen the people

in the square doing tai chi?

Exercising and moving slowly

together:

that's how I was going

to stop Lei.

- I don't know anything

about tai chi.

- I'll show you in the morning.

Now, I have to go

and fetch a crane.

[whistle blowing]

[engine chugging]

- I'm sorry, Lei.

I was sure I was doing

the right thing.

I thought I was being a hero.

- And I'm sorry

I got you into trouble.

You're still a hero to me,

Thomas.

Oops.

[laughs]

Oh, dear.

[rooster crowing]

[whistle tooting]

- The next day,

Yong Bao took me to see

the people in the square.

[peaceful music]

- They're doing

their morning exercising.

It's called "tai chi."

- Wow.

I've never seen anything

like that before.

♪ ♪

- This is how I would have

stopped the runaway car.

- With tai chi?

What do you mean?

- Do you see the way

they're all moving together,

Thomas?

Rather than crashing into Lei,

you could have backed up

with him.

Then both of you could have

slowed down gently,

moving together.

- Moving together,

like tai chi.

- I'll show you.

[whistle blowing]

Follow me.

- [whistle toots]

♪ ♪

[upbeat music]

♪ ♪

- Whee!

♪ ♪

- To stop the moving car,

don't just block it:

move together.

Move with the car!

♪ ♪

- Wah-hey!

- Okay, Thomas,

now you try.

Move together, like tai chi.

♪ ♪

- Whoa!

Oof!

No harm done!

- Try again, Thomas!

♪ ♪

- Ow!

Oof!

♪ ♪

Ah!

Whoa!

♪ ♪

- Remember to move with him,

Thomas!

♪ ♪

- So using the motion

of tai chi,

I started moving backwards

with him.

- Now you're starting

to get it!

- Yeah!

[cheerful music]

♪ ♪

Let's do it again!

♪ ♪

[gasps]

- Yong Bao,

what should we do?

- Go, Thomas!

You can rescue him!

- [whistle toots]

♪ ♪

[dramatic music]

I'm coming for you, Lei!

- I don't think I can handle

another crash, Thomas!

♪ ♪

[engine chugging]

♪ ♪

Lei!

I'm switching tracks

to pass you!

♪ ♪

[engine chugging]

What?

How did you get

onto my track?

♪ ♪

- To stop the moving car,

don't just block it;

move together!

Move with the car!

♪ ♪

- Hooray!

- I did it!

- Well done, Thomas.

This time you really did

save the day!

Your practice has paid off,

and you have learned

one of the guiding principles

of tai chi:

to move with the flow

of energy,

not just block it.

- Thank you, Yong Bao.

I can't wait to try it again.

- I can.

[all laughing]

[bell ringing]

[engine chugging]

[whistle toots]

[engine puffing]

- How do you feel when

you don't do something right

the first time?

Sometimes I get upset.

The first time I pulled

the Troublesome Trucks,

they convinced me

to go too fast

and I couldn't slow down,

so I crashed.

I felt very silly,

but I didn't give up.

I kept on pulling those cars

until I got much better at it.

And when I was in China,

I got upset

when Yong Bao told me

I had stopped

a runaway car the wrong way.

But then he taught me

a better way,

and with some practice

I learned the best way

to stop a runaway car.

[mystical music]

So if you're learning

something new

and you don't get it right

the first time,

don't get upset.

Just keep on trying.

- Come on, Thomas!

It's time to go.

- See you next time!

[whistle toots]

- Come on!

- Yeah!

- Let's go!
