[laughter]

♪ ♪

- Whoo-hoo!

Steam engines like me have

to deliver all kinds

of different things.

But some deliveries are a lot

easier than others,

and sometimes they can go

horribly wrong.

[whistle toots]

All aboard for a big adventure!

[flute music]

[Thomas narrating]

♪ ♪

- Is this it?

- Yes, Thomas,

that's the one.

- Okay.

If you say so.

[metal clanks]

[whistle toots]

[train engine chugging]

[upbeat music]

- It's Thomas!

- Hello, Thomas.

What's wrong with you today?

You don't look very happy.

- That's because I've been

given a silly job.

Look what they've given me

to take to Tuzi Quan.

- Oh, wow.

That's their new water wheel.

That's really important.

The old water wheel

at Tuzi Quan is broken.

- And they need it to bring

water to the paddy fields

where the rice grows.

- Oh.

But it doesn't look

strong enough

to be a proper

water wheel.

I pass a water wheel every day

back on Sodor.

It's big and made of wood,

and it looks really strong.

But I don't know what this

water wheel is made of.

It's not heavy at all!

- [giggles]

It's made from bamboo, Thomas.

- Bamboo is strong and tough,

but light enough

to float on water.

It can be used to make

all sorts of things.

- And it comes from

the forest all around us.

- Wow!

♪ ♪

- Look up ahead, Thomas.

They're using bamboo to help

with repairing a building.

- Hello!

[whistle toots]

[flute music]

- And that flute is made of

bamboo too.

- Bamboo is used to make lots

of different things:

furniture and--

- Wow.

A bike!

No way.

So can anything be made

from bamboo?

[mystical music]

[laughs]

I'm so tough!

And strong...

And light!

I can do anything!

[water splashes]

Whoo-hoo!

[laughing]

Scoosh!

- Thomas.

[whistle toots]

You'd better stop daydreaming

and deliver that water wheel.

- Without the water wheel,

the paddy fields will dry out,

and without the water,

the rice won't grow.

- Come on, Thomas.

They need it now.

- Right.

[gasps]

I know!

I'll take a short cut.

[whistle toots]

[train engine chugging]

[jaunty music]

♪ ♪

And then,

though I didn't realize it,

there was trouble.

[water wheel thunks]

♪ ♪

[water wheel thunking]

[whistle toots]

- Hi, Thomas.

Where are you off to

in such a rush?

- I'm taking this water wheel

to Tuzi Quan.

It's very important.

- What water wheel?

- [gasps]

[water wheel boinging]

That water wheel!

Oh, no!

[whistle toots]

I've got to get it back!

- Good luck, Thomas!

[exciting music]

- Oh, no!

Ah!

Ah...

Oh...

♪ ♪

- [gasps]

[speaking native language]

[people yelling]

♪ ♪

- [yelling in native language]

[chickens clucking]

♪ ♪

- I chased the water wheel

all over the railway.

[water wheel boinging]

♪ ♪

- [gasps]

♪ ♪

- [whimpers]

- Whoa!

[chuckles]

- Phew.

♪ ♪

- What?

[dramatic music]

♪ ♪

[panting]

Finally.

[water wheel creaking]

[water wheel boinging]

[yelps]

♪ ♪

[water wheel boinging]

♪ ♪

[water splashes]

No!

[soft music]

♪ ♪

Oh, no.

- Thomas, at last.

Where is the water wheel?

- Well, I took a short cut,

and, oh...

I'm very sorry.

But the water wheel...

- Is here!

[all cheer]

- Huh?

♪ ♪

- What a good idea,

to bring the water wheel

by water.

- After all that?

Bamboo really is tough

and strong...

and light!

- You could help us pull it

into place, Thomas.

- Now, that sounds like

something really useful

that I can do.

[chuckles]

I helped the villagers pull

the water wheel into place.

- Stop! Stop!

[happy music]

- The water wheel took water

from the river,

sending it to the paddy fields

where the rice is grown.

Because rice needs water

to grow

just like steam engines

need it to go.

It's brilliant to see

the water wheel in action.

I guess you could call it

"wheely" useful!

[chuckles]

[bell ringing]

[train engine chugging]

[whistle toots]

You know,

water is very important.

We all need good, clean water.

Steam engines

need water to go.

Without water,

there's no steam...

as Gordon found out

when a rock hit his boiler,

causing it to spring a leak.

And soon,

Gordon couldn't move at all.

Even big, strong steam engines

like Gordon need water.

Without water,

Sodor wouldn't be a lush,

green island.

And there wouldn't be

any bamboo in China

or paddy fields,

where the rice grows.

So remember:

every time you go for a swim,

take a bath or shower,

or just have a drink,

you're using water.

It really is so very important.

So don't waste it.

- Come on, Thomas.

- It's time to go.

[whistle toots]

- Come on!

- Yeah!
