"Blank space" is one
of my favorite moments
in the show every night because
the song is essentially about
a girl who comes off incredibly
charming and is very seductive
and... and pulls
people into her world,
and then she proceeds to
just go absolutely psycho.
We wanted to kind of
replicate the video,
and we wanted it to be a
performance showcasing me
and all these supposed ex lovers
who I've terrorized and ruined
and, um, become
absolutely obsessed with.
And we wanted to... to watch
that play out on stage.
The media kind of got
onboard with this idea
a couple years ago
that I'm this player
and I'm a serial dater
and I just am constantly
dating for sport.
So when I wrote "blank
space," I just thought,
"all right, if they want
to play this character,"
if they want to paint
this picture of this girl
who's just picking up
men left and right
and, you know, this
whole imagery of this
jet-setting, um, tragic
mess that I apparently am,
cool, I'll write a song
from that perspective

And it ended up being the
biggest song I've ever had.

What I'm battling in...
In this day and age
is that every person in the
audience probably know
what costumes I'm gonna wear.
They... they could know the set
list if they really wanted to.
And so I decided to start
inviting special guests out.
Getting people to say yes to
come up on stage was, um,
a lot easier than I thought.
I'd never want to
pressure anybody.
I'd never go, "come

But people started to realize
before they even got there
that if they were to
walk out on stage,
the crowd's gonna freak out,
and they're gonna scream,
and it's gonna be an amazing
moment for everyone involved.

A few years ago, I
was at the grammys,
and I was, um, lucky
enough to be nominated
for album of the year for
my last album, "red."
The announcer said, "and the

so for about two seconds,
I thought we had it,
but we didn't, and I ended
up going home, like,
thinking a lot about everything.
Thinking about where I was
going, what I'd been doing,

needed to change something.

album needed to be.

switch gears."

everything about this new
phase and this new chapter

[Taylor] My band had
been with me for years.
Um, some of them had been
with me for years,
and they're an amazing group
of musicians and singers.
They can learn a song
within less than an hour,
and this tour has
been unbelievable
because I got to see them
really flex their muscles
in terms of how quickly
they could learn something.

- How well they could replicate
someone else's song,
regardless of what
genre they fell into.
And it's really exciting
to be around people
who were so focused,
and we all ended up
on the stage we wanted to be on.
Every night before the show,
the band and the dancers
and the singers and I...
We all get together in a huddle.
It's a way for us
to all get together
and have somebody from
the group make a speech.
It's really amazing
to get to hear
from everyone who
we perform with
because you hear
their life stories,
you hear, sometimes,
funny stories,
you hear what's
motivating them lately,
and it just makes you realize
that you're performing
with people
who have been
dreaming about this
their whole life.
The same way I started
writing songs when I was ,
those dancers, you know,
woke up one day
when they were ,
and decided dancing was all
they ever wanted to do.
And now they're doing it.
