[narrator] "Ho Ho Snowman"

On the Island of Sodor,

it was wintertime!

Snow lay thick on the ground.

One morning, Thomas and Charlie were shunting trucks

One biff... one bash...

and there's never a crash!

That's what Bash, Dash and Ferdinand say!

That's funny, Thomas!

-That's one biff... one bash... -[exclaims]

And there's always a crash! [laughs]

[narrator] Thomas and Charlie giggled and jiggled.

The trucks rumbled and grumbled.

Snow's fun, Thomas! I like snow!

I like snow.

But I don't like wearing my snow plough!

The Fat Controller has told me

I must go and put it on right away.

I'll tell you a joke, Thomas.

That'll make you happier!

[narrator] Thomas liked Charlie's jokes.

Yes, please, Charlie.

What do snowmen have for breakfast?

I don't know.

Snowflakes! [laughs]

That's funny! [laughs]

[narrator] And Thomas chuffed away, chuckling.

Henry was huffing down Gordon's Hill.

He was steaming very slowly.

Henry wasn't happy.

Hello, Henry.

What's the matter?

[narrator] Henry heaved heavily.

It's the snow. I don't like the snow.

I slip. I slide. I slither.

It makes my wheels wobble.

Snow's fun, Henry!

No, it isn't.

I have to take coal trucks to Brendam.

If I pull a long, heavy train,

I might topple off the track.

So, I'm taking a few at a time.

It will take me all day.

[narrator] Charlie smiled.

Ooh! I'll tell you a joke, Henry.

Then, you'll laugh all the way.

No thank you, Charlie.

I have a lot to do.

-[whistles] -[narrator] Charlie watched Henry puff away.

Henry looked worried and wobbly.

Then an idea flew into Charlie's funnel.

[gasps] I can show you snow is fun!

[narrator] Charlie clickety clacked along the tracks.

I know where there's a big snowman

on Henry's track to Brendam.

Ooh! I can puff there before Henry.

[narrator] Charlie puffed into a siding.

Someone had built a large snowman there.

I will hide here.

Henry will never see me now!

[narrator] Then, Charlie heard the slow clickety clack

of Henry's wheels on the track.

Charlie was excited.

Henry puffed up to the snowman.

[Charlie] Ho ho ho ho ho! Hello, Henry!

Shall I tell you a joke?!

[narrator] Henry stopped suddenly.

Henry was surprised.

Who said that?

[narrator] Henry looked around.

He couldn't see another engine.

He could only see the snowman.

[Charlie] Ho ho ho ho ho! I did.

What sort of ball doesn't bounce?

[narrator] Henry stuttered. Henry stammered.

He'd never met a talking snowman before.

I don't know.

[Charlie] A snow ball! Ha!

[narrator] The snowman laughed. Henry wobbled.

O me! O my!

A laughing snowman!

[narrator] And Henry steamed quickly away.

Charlie was puzzled.

Perhaps Henry didn't think that joke was funny.

I'll wait until he puffs back for more coal trucks.

I have another joke.

I'm sure Henry will find that one funny.

[narrator] Charlie waited.

Henry huffed slowly round the bend.

Charlie smiled.

Henry looked at the snowman.

Henry looked worried.

[Charlie] Hello, Henry. I have another joke for you.

[narrator] Henry gasped and gulped.

He looked around.

There was still no other engine there.

[Charlie] What do snowmen eat for lunch?

[narrator] Henry stuttered. Henry stammered.

I... I really don't know.

[Charlie] Iceburgers!

-[Charlie laughs] -[narrator] The snow man laughed.

Henry wobbled.

O me! O my!

This is very strange!

[narrator] And Henry huffed hurriedly away.

Charlie sighed.

I was sure Henry would find my talking snowman funny!

Oh, I have another joke!

When Henry chuffs back,

he's sure to find that one funny!

[narrator] Later, Henry puffed slowly back

with some more coal trucks.

He peered at the snowman, worried.

Charlie was waiting with his best joke.

Hello, Henry.

How do snowmen greet each other?

[narrator] Henry stuttered. Henry stammered.

[Charlie] Ice to meet you!

[narrator] Charlie giggled and jiggled.

Henry shivered and shook.

O me! O my!

A giggling, jiggling snowman!

This is stranger than ever!

[narrator] And Henry rolled away in reverse.

Charlie rolled out from his hiding place.

Stop, Henry! Stop! It's me, Charlie!

I was just trying to make you laugh in the snow!

[narrator] But Henry had already puffed away.

Charlie had looked for Henry everywhere.

-At last, he puffed up to Tidmouth Sheds. -[whistles]

Hello, Thomas! Have you seen Henry?

[narrator] Thomas was worried.

He's in there. But he won't come out!

-Henry! It's me Charlie! -[whistles]

I was the talking snowman.

[narrator] Henry didn't make a peep or a puff.

I'm sorry, Henry.

I thought you'd find snowmen telling jokes funny!

But I've only made you scared.

And late with your coal deliveries.

I wanted to make you laugh.

To show you that snow is fun.

I don't think snow is fun.

It fizzes my firebox and whips in my whistle!

I don't think snow is fun either.

I have to chuff carefully.

And sometimes I'm late!

[narrator] Charlie listened.

Charlie thought.

Henry. I won't try and make you have fun in the snow.

But I would like to help you.

Can I be your back engine?

Then we can deliver your coal on time.

I'll chuff very carefully with you.

-[narrator] Henry hooted. -[whistles]

Henry's driver opened Henry's door.

Thank you, Charlie. I would like that.

[narrator] Henry and Charlie chuffed carefully.

They puffed past children playing in the snow.

Henry chuckled at their games.

They puffed past some birds singing sweetly in the snow.

Henry smiled at their song.

Then, they puffed past a tree, with bright coloured lights.

Henry gasped with delight.

At last, all the coal was delivered.

Thank you, Henry.

You've shown me lots of different things

can be fun in the snow.

[narrator] Then, they puffed past the snowman.

Henry steamed to a stop.

-Charlie? -Yes, Henry ?

I'd like to hear a joke now.

[narrator] Charlie beamed from buffer to buffer.

Oh! Of course, Henry!

[clears throat]

How do snowmen travel around?

I don't know, Charlie.

By icicle!

[both laugh]

[narrator] And the two engines

chuckled and chortled in the snow.

And Henry was sure that maybe...

just maybe...

he saw the snowman smile...
