[narrator reading title]

[narrator] Percy is a cheery little t*nk engine

who loves working with his friends on the Island of Sodor.

-[horn blows]-[seagulls squawk]

One day, Salty noticed Percy standing at Brendam Docks,

looking out across the water.

Percy seemed sad about something.

[sighs]

Ahoy there, matey.

Thinking of taking up lifeon the sea, are ya?

Huh? Oh, no, Salty.

I was just thinkingabout my old friend Gator...

A monster! A monster!

It's coming this way!

It's the monsterfrom the clay pits!

[narrator] When Gator first came to Sodor,

he gave Percy a real fright.

Oh! Hello!

[laugh] That be no monster,Percy! That be an engine!

Hello, Percy.

Hello.

[narrator] But once Percy got to know him,

the two engines quickly became friends.

But now Gator had gone away,

leaving Percy missing his friend and feeling sad.

Arr. I bet your friend Gator

wouldn't like to see youmoping around like this.

Best not to think about him,if you ask me.

Gator's gone,and you've got cars to pull

and other enginesto think about.

[sigh] Cranky is right.

Maybe if I don't thinkabout Gator

I won't feel so sad.

[narrator] When he pulled heavy cars up Gordon's Hill,

Percy remembered how Gator made it all seem so easy.

And when he came back to Brendam Docks,

he remembered where Gator had waited for his ship to come in.

Being brave is not the sameas not feeling scared.

Being brave is about what you doeven when you do feel scared.

Arr. Thinking aboutGator again, are ye?

Huh? H-How did you know?

You've been there for half anhour with your cars coupled up!

Keep yourself busy.

That'll take your mindoff anything.

Har! No truer word, Percy.Keep busy. Arr!

Okay, then. I'll keep busy.

[narrator] So Percy decided to stop thinking about Gator

by keeping himself very busy indeed.

Oh! Slow down there, Percy!

Uh, sorry, Stafford...[blows whistle]

but I've got to keep busy.

[indistinct P.A. announcements]

-[blows whistle]-Hello, Percy.

Percy?

Sorry, Thomas. Mustn't stop.

Otherwise I'll startthinking about-- [gasps]

Oh. Never mind.

[narrator] Then Percy was sent to the Earl's estate

to take some very important cars to the docks.

They were loaded with valuable sculptures and paintings

for an exhibition.

[whistle blows]

Keeping busy, keeping busy.Never thinking isn't easy.

Move some more carsdown the line.

Who needs thinking?I feel fine.

[whistle blows]

Hello, Percy.

Your trucksare ready and waiting.

Thanks, Millie! Mustn't stop!

But don't you needto be coupled up?

No thanks!I've got to keep busy,

so I don't thinkabout anything!

Keeping busy. Keeping busy.Never thinking isn't...

-Uh-oh.-[narrator] Then there was trouble.

The Troublesome Trucks started racing ahead!

[Troublesome Trucks]Faster! Faster! [laughing]

-Stop! Wait!-[cheering]

[narrator] The trucks rattled the points

and switched onto the track that led to the old mine.

Oh, no. Stop, please!

[narrator] But the trucks were going too fast to stop now.

[grunts] Come back, come back!

[laughing]

[narrator] The entrance to the old mine

-had only recently been re-boarded up.-[gasps]

[shout, cheer]

[narrator] But even that couldn't stop them.

[laughter echoes and fades]

Percy slowed down

when he saw the dark tunnel ahead.

Hello? Anybody there?

[narrator] Percy knew that he should go in

and bring back the trucks,

but he didn't like the look of the mine.

[squeaking]

[gasps]

[narrator] Percy was scared.

He didn't know what to do.

He just had to stop and think for a moment.

But of course, what he thought of was...

[gasps]

Gator.

Being brave is not the sameas not feeling scared.

Being brave is about what you doeven when you do feel scared.

[narrator] Percy remembered what Gator had said to him,

and he knew he could do it. He could be brave.

He could go into the dark tunnel.

Hello?

Hello, Trucks?Where are you?

[narrator] Deeper and deeper into the tunnel he went,

wheel turn by wheel turn,

until at last Percy saw some shadowy shapes ahead of him.

Oh, Percy! Help! Help!Pull us out of here!

We don't like beingall alone in the dark!

[narrator] The Trucks were very happy to see Percy.

They were frightened too.

Come on,you Troublesome Trucks.

Let's get you out of here.

[narrator] Percy had done it. He had rescued the Trucks.

Percy knew he shouldn't have rushed off

with the Troublesome Trucks, but then he smiled.

He realized that it was Gator's wise words

that helped him to be brave,

and rescue the trucks all by himself.

Ahoy there, Percy!

Not still thinkingabout Gator, are ye?

You know it only makes you sad.

No, Salty, thinking about Gatormakes me happy, too.

I learned a lotfrom that engine.

I'm lucky to have Gatoras a friend,

even if he is far awayright now.

Aye, Percy.

And who knows, but he might comeback to Sodor one day.

[chuckles] Arr.

I hope so, Salty. I really do.
