[bell tolling]

[male narrator] "Lost Property."

[train whistle toots]

[narrator] It was the end of another busy day

when Thomas arrived back at Knapford Station.

Sir Topham Hatt was waiting for him.

Ha!Thomas!

I'’ve just had some news.

There'’s to be an inspection of Sodor'’s railway tomorrow,

and the inspection team will want to look at everything.

Oh, sir, if we have to be inspected,

we'’ll need cleaning.

Indeed, my passengers have left

all kinds of things behind... again.

Mine, too. Look.

[chuckles] Well, then.

We'’d better take them to lost property.

Let'’s see what we have here.

Now, hmm.

Hmm-hmm...

Oh. Hmm, very nice.

[laughs]

Oh, goodness me.

Somebody must be missing these.

[laughs]

Hopefully, the Lost Property Office

will be able to find out to whom they belong.

Oh, and what'’s this?

[laughing]

This looks like fun.

[laughs] Oh, right, Thomas.

You'’d better take Annie and Clarabel to the washdown.

I want you all cleaned and ready for tomorrow'’s inspection.

Yes, sir!

[whistle toots]

[train engine chugging]

[yelps] Ooh.

[narrator] The next morning,

Sir Topham Hatt came to Tidmouth Sheds

to check over his engines before the inspectors arrived.

Excellent.

All of you look splendid,

which I'’m sure you know is very important.

[man clears his throat]

But not as important as being reliable

and on time, Sir Topham.

[laughs nervously]

Of course, gentlemen.

Now, where would you like to begin the inspection?

Oh, we'’ll start with your number one engine, I think.

[train whistle toots]

[train engine chugging]

[steam hisses]

Don'’t forget, Thomas.

You have a lot of jobs today.

So it'’s more important than ever to be really useful.

Don'’t worry, Annie and Clarabel.

[whistle blows]

What could possibly go wrong?

[passengers exclaim]

Oops. Sorry, everyone.

Hmm.

[train engine chugging]

[groans]

Goodness, it'’s stuffy in here.

Allow me, madam. [chuckles]

[grunts] Oh, it'’s stuck.

[grunting]

Hmm.

Window stuck.

My apologies.

We'’ll make sure we fix that at the next station.

[laughs nervously]

Ooh.

Oh, dear.

That stuck window won'’t look good.

Don'’t worry, Annie. [chuckle]

We'’ll have your windows fixed in no time.

[train engine chugging]

[narrator] At Dryaw Station,

a group of schoolchildren got on

and started to cause even more problems.

[tsking]

[children laughing]

[yells]

Now, now, young man.

Apologize at once.

[mockingly] Sorry.

[children laughing]

-[blows raspberries] -[gasps]

Why, you...

Oh, cheeky little monkeys.

Not to worry, Annie.

I think they'’re getting off at the next stop.

[whistle blows]

[train whistle toots]

[train engine chugging]

Hey... ooh.

That really is it, young man.

No! Not the emergency cable!

[wheels screeching]

[children yelling]

[wheels screeching]

-Ah... -Oh.

High spirits. [laughs]

They'’re not usually like this.

It must be the sunshine.

[train whistle toots]

We'’re sure to be late.

However will you get all your jobs done, Thomas?

Oh, dear.

[train engine chugging]

[birds chirping]

[narrator] Thomas tried his hardest to make up the lost time.

[wheels screech]

But everything seemed to be against him that day.

[cows mooing]

What'’s going on?

Oh, another delay?

[chuckles] We'’ll be on our way in no time, gentlemen.

[groaning]

[cow lows]

[narrator] Finally, Thomas'’ inspection was over.

[steam hisses]

At last.

[man] Oh, dear.

I'’m sorry about all the delays, sir.

Oh, nothing you could'’ve done, Thomas.

Anyway, I have to go.

You'’re not the only engine being inspected today.

Good luck, sir.

[whistle blows]

[train whistles tooting]

[narrator] It was much, much later when Thomas returned

to Knapford Station

after completing all his deliveries.

Thomas, look what we found after you left:

more lost property.

[Clarabel] It was on Annie'’s floor.

That watch belongs to the grumpy inspector.

We should take it to him immediately...

[whistle toots]

Or the railway will get an even worse report.

[narrator] So Thomas, Annie, and Clarabel

set off to find the inspectors and return the gold watch.

[train engine chugging]

[whistles toot]

-[narrator] Finally... -[gasps]

...Thomas found them

inspecting Gordon and the express.

[wheels screeching]

Why are you stopping, Thomas?

We need to stop Gordon.

[train engine chugging]

[wheels screeching]

[steam hisses]

[train engine chugging]

[train whistle toots]

Sir! Sir!

I have to speak to you right away.

[laughs]

You don'’t really have to

call me "sir," Thomas.

I wasn'’t talking to you, Gordon.

Whatever is the matter, Thomas?

Annie found a gold watch on her floor, sir.

We didn'’t want to get you into any more trouble

after all the delays this morning.

Well, I never.

I didn'’t even realize my watch was missing, Thomas.

Thank you.

You'’re very welcome, sir.

This watch was given to me to celebrate

twenty years of working for the railway company.

I'’d have been very sad if I'’d lost it.

You did the right thing by taking the initiative

and coming to find us, Thomas.

Initiative, sir?

Ah, that means you worked out how to solve the problem

by yourself, Thomas.

You'’re not only a really useful engine,

but a very kind one, too.

The entire railway will get a glowing report.

And you, Annie and Clarabel,

will get a special mention.

-Oh, no... -Really.

[laughs nervously]

-Oh, no, no, no. -Too kind.

[sighs]

Thank you, sir.

I suppose I'’d better get back to my branch line.

[whistle toots]

And we need to get back to the mainland

if you'’ll take us, Gordon.

Of course, sir.

Fastest and best,

and I pull the express.

[whistle blows]

[yells]

Uh-oh.

Oops.

Sorry, sirs.

[train engine chugging]

[chuckles]

[laughs] Those things are fun.

May I?[laughs]

Great fun.

[groans]

Oh, not again.
